Seems like there are two types of people when it comes to Cactus. 1) stupid ones with no taste that ignore how good of a package it is for the money, and call it shit just because of some irrlevant details. 2) smart ones with taste, who understand design see the appeal of a car like this, and realize how cheap it actually is for what it offers.
If you don't like it, don't buy it ,no one is forcing you... For me when it comes to cars I like it when it is different and with a sense of humor.I like the cactus I would lease one ,no problem
Looks different. A bit extravagant, but simple and functional With a touchscreen monitor. Little fuel consumption. Plus airbumps against small accidents on the sides. Congratulations, Citroen!!!
Matt you need to stop with that bullshit claim on reliability. According to reliability index recent survey in UK, French cars are among the most reliable just behind Japanese. Check, type on google "reliability index japanese french top brands"
JacquesBeard Jacques, I've driven almost exclusively Citroëns for the past 40 years and even I wouldn't dream of claiming they never went wrong. I certainly haven't found them to be as unreliable as some people claim though, probably about average. Wiring was an issue 10-20 years ago (poor quality insulation, among other things) but newer ones are much better.
Pedro Conejo Yes true French cars have electronic problems sometimes however you need to take into account that repairs on French cars cost much less, thus making them less costy on reliability and as such "more reliable"
I know it has a few issues but I really like this car. It looks cool and it's different. A car of this size having pop out rear windows was a bit of a shocker but I like the idea of having those air pad things across the sides . . . I'm fed up of inconsiderate morons opening their doors onto my car and driving away. This car eliminates that problem!
People complaining about the little details like rear windows are forgetting that this is a VERY cheap car. In fact, if you look at what other cars you can get for the same money, nobody will offer nearly as much as a package, plus the C4 feels more special than any other car in the class.
Another great review thanks! Have to point out that the deeper boot makes it a far bigger boot space than its rivals, those with prams will very much appreciate the deeper boot space, folding up and popping it in the boot is made easy. Citroen was ranked higher than mercedes for reliability so not sure where your reliability figures are from I got mine from the AA for roadside breakdown statistics. Also not sure why the nissan juke is seens as a competitor, might as well compare it to an Audi Q7 its that far apart. Not sure what happened to the clutch in that car because the clutch is pretty sharp. Citroen is very innovative as they did invent the adaptive headlight system used in bmw and audi today.
I love when companies innovate and this Citroen looks amazing but not having rear winding windows or air on is a car sin in 2014 and that will impact their sales.
Looks really nice. I love that they brought back conected front seats. And the whole car looks fresh. It's not boring as most of other cars. Thumbs up for citreon for being that brave and selling something like this.
I fell in love with this car as soon as I got in it, yes, it's not going to give you top spec luxury, there are compromises, but where else are you going to get a car that looks this cool, and is fun to drive? It is nippy, the ride height is good, the seats are fine, but if you plan long trips, get a lumbar support I'm 6'2" and I managed to find a decent seat position, then got in the back seat behind the driver, there's room for an adult if need be, but as this is a family car, and it has 2 isofix, kids will be well catered for, while its not the Picasso, it is a damn sight cheaper, and far far cooler, and if like me, your not ready to become a taxi for you, and all your kids friends, well, look no further! Ask yourself this, do you want do drive a car used by taxi drivers ( Picasso, Zafira, etc..) or do you want to drive something that looks like a concept car, drives well, is economical, perfect for small families on a budget? It does fit a pram in the boot as well
It's nothing like the french rubbish you would expect. Even the french make very good constructed, reliable cars these days. Buy one, drive one. You will be surprised. I did and it is one of the most balanced and fun driving car i have ever driven. The concept is great, very smart and well constructed. My other car is a tuned 310 BHP V70R. Love it, but i like driving the Cactus more. Before that, i had 3 new VW's (2x golf, 1x passat) with a lot of quality issues. In the same 12 years, my dad drove 2 picasso's and never had one problem. That's why i took the step and i don't regret it for one splitsecond. It is a beautifull (other cars look dull), out of the box, well thought over en very well constructed car.
Well said, it's practical, stylish, and fun to drive, I was going for the Picasso, but as soon as I got in this, I was hooked, I can't believe how nippy and responsive it is. I was warned of French cars buy the "older generation" but this oozes style and charm, and I love it
Ford has a system (which sadly is an option, altough cheap) that extends a small rubber bumper outwards when you open the doors to protect other vehicles parked next to you. Simple and doesnt detract from the look of the vehicle. It is something that they should license to other car makers really. When all cars have that supermarket dings will be a thing of the past (well, except for those people who cant drive their cart)...
HB45175 That only protects the car from you being an idiot. I can be careful when opening my doors, thank you. I'm much more worried of other people just not giving a damn. Heck, I've had people bump their doors into my car WHILE I WAS INSIDE IT!
NickLiang So many people with utter lack of sense for design and esthethics.... these bumps are a part of design, take them off, and care will look much worse than it does. It's a double purpose thing, it's protective, and it looks good at the same time.
derbigpr500 So simply because one doesn't like the look of something they lack a sense of design and aesthetics? Get of your high horse please. That is utter rubbish and you know it. The car is ugly, simple as that. Just because something is different, doesn't mean it is therefore beautiful. You sound like some sort of art school hipster.
NickLiang Actually no. Nature said to itself: that let's grow hair above the eyes, because it protects the eyes, which are the most valuable sense to us, not taking care of the face design. And we began to like it, thinking of somebody without them as ridiculous. It's the same with the car. I wouldn't like it without the plastics.
Arrivataaaaa! Obviously he said yes, to which I followed up with "that's weird, because normally the pricks are on the outside" all he could do was laugh. Had to share it with the Internet!
Was really interested in this car, looked at it in the showroom had a test drive, way back at the end of October 2014.. walked away ..and i can honestly say as of mid march 2015 i still haven't seen one on the road and i,m driving everyday
How can you say it is a good car for rear seat passengers when the windows don't even open properly on the rear doors ? I wouldn't fancy being one of three people on the rear seat. The cost accountants knife has gone too far to make it a family car - clever or not.
+Jon Stride The pop-out rear windows are primarily a weight-saving exercise. Due to the shape of the doors, a conventional sliding window wouldn't open very far anyway, and on the motorway these pop-out windows are a bit better. It also means there's a bit more room in there - the doors don't have to be as thick as they are when they have to accommodate a window mechanism. We get that not everyone likes it though. You can expect more of this design from the new DS brand when they show off their new models at Frankfurt.
+Jon Stride Most models come with Aircon life is about compromises , you loose electric windows , you gain more space in the rear , a lighter vehicle + a Improved fuel efficiency In every single fuel challenge this car achieve 100 MPG , this is the most fuel efficient car in the UK
That' the interesting thing, it looks like it's designed for 2 people at first, but has enough capabilities to carry more. Perfect for me and my partner in fact.
Mine was recalled 3 times. Emissions failure, adblue tank leak, and engine issue. Plus a faulty gear linkage. 70,000 miles later, car is great. Minus the stupid cup holder, storage space, loud noise when you go over 70mph, pop up windows and slow AC
Who actually wants people to open the back windows when moving, I hate the noise it makes in any car, and don't like children playing with buttons in the back so this car is great
When I first saw these on the road I thought they were hideous, but now I'm not sure. I'd never, ever buy one but I have to admit that I quite like the look of the one in the video!
Is the info in this video correct regarding the engine? I've heard Matt say that the 1.2 is turbocharged, and i haven't managed to confirm that anywhere. The 3 cyl 1.2 has 80hp and no turbo as far as i know, and even though i was shocked about the size of it compared to how big of a car it has to pull, bear in mind that Cactus is only 1 tonne heavy.
This guy is mostly very negative about Citroen cars, too bad, they make very good cars! The loading point at the back is high to keep the chassis sturdy. The windows that dont wind down are all about weight saving. This car is around 1000 kgs.
+MRsjovealek It's a cheap car, yes. You are seriously just a hater as you point out ONE thing which is bad about it, and complain like it is the biggest problem in the world.
+MRsjovealek You are not realising that you can not state something is ugly. It may be your opinion but it is not a fact. As a result of you thinking that your opinion is a fact I am not going to argue.
UV rays is what mostly heats up the car interior. So if you block them efficiently (like with good sun tints for cars... they don't need to be very dark in order to keep the interior cool) then it shouldn't heat up too much. Of course it'd be interesting to see real life experiences.
İ live in country with lots of sun. In summer we see 42-43 degrees. Even the sunroof with curtain cant prevent heating. The glass itself radiates the heat inside.
Don't want to be troll, but the UV part of the sun radiation doesn't have much to do with its heating effects, therefore adding UV filter to the sunroof won't have much of an effect. It's mainly the infrared part of the spectrum. Out of 1000 W of sun irradiance (it's roughly the value at the sea level with sun at zenith) more than 500 W are infrared, something over 400 W is visible light and just over 30 W are ultraviolet.
Pop out windows don't bother me , we had them in the Berlingo with our two kids , travelling to Eire and Scotland regularly and with no A/C , no problem ( I live on the south coast uk). I only ever fold down both seats when with split option. So those two "issues" aren't............... with me.
I test drove this recently and it is indeed very fun and feels nice to cruise about in. However the driving position is super-awkward with the lack of adjustment in the steering wheel and the gear box is ridiculous! The amount of movement when changing gear and when it's in gear, as the review showed, is just crazy. Still liked the car overall though, and I had a high hopes for it as I want to change mine. Alas, this one didn't convince me to buy it though.
Maybe it`s just me, but the C4 Cactus i had a look at, on a autoshow, was pretty uncomfortable, but maybe that example had some different seats. I also did bang my head into the roof, when i wanted to lean forward, in the front seats.
Rented it for 10 days. Drives like a TRAIN, I had the diesel version averaging 5.9 l / 100 km with a combined urban and motorway journeys. Drove over 1400 km in it, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy it... The console/tablet cannot be used if one of the doors are open as notifications keep showing up, the AC vents are placed in a very impractical way. Having the AC controls on the console can be very distracting when driving
Citroen is perhaps appealing to people who change their cars every 6 months. Other than that it's just silly. With this particular car they seemed overly obsessed with looking cool. But no matter how cool your car is to you when you get it, within 6 months it's just another commuter and the more practical stuff gets appreciated more.
If I could get one with the roof for under £7000 would be brilliant (second hand, under 50,000, with parking sensors and reversing camera , also if there is an option for auto parking I'd love it. )
I thing this car has potential but there is couple things that i felt that they should have done differently. I don´t like the pop -out window and don´t see how that big factor in lowering price. Just have normal window. Also i have seen other car reviewers complain about the gearbox and the automatic transmission isn't good either. Also in my country if don´t have the 110 horsepower pure-teach engine that almost all recommended as the best engine for this car.
Electric motors? X2 a compromise yes, but also a safety feature for young kids, no worries about kids sticking fingers, arms, heads, out of the window. Aircon is a must. I'd like to say also, that my manual gearbox isn't floppy like this, it's fine.
+SurvivorIceland If you have a electric windows, you have to factor things like an electric motor (obviously), the rails on which the window goes up and down, additional switchgear and circuitry to control the windows. Times that by two and you'll also have more weight.
The guys who dislikes this car are the same who say that the 1955 Citroen DS was a piece of shit. Times are changing, but assholes still remain the same. I am proud of my C3 Picasso, and even if i am a patriot,my former cars were 2 Buicks...
Carbuyer you make no sense: You rated this car 5/5 on your website and yet half of the review is about its disadvantages, most of which are pretty major. Fair enough if you think its really good overall, but its clearly not perfect so why give it a 5/5?

I wish we could get these cars in the US. Citroens are about as unique as cars get these days.
It's different than others and you can combine colours to your liking. Not for everyone but it stands out and that's what people like about Citroën
they like citroen because they haven't tested other cars and they families have been buying citroen-peugeot cars all their life

I like the design, well done Citroen for going back to the quirky cars. How about working on that build quality and reliability though aye
When I first saw these on the road I thought they were hideous, but now I'm not sure. I'd never, ever buy one but I have to admit that I quite like the look of the one in the video!
Well at least it is a different car to others and give smile to people :)
I love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very stylish. such a beauty one!
This guy is mostly very negative about Citroen cars, too bad, they make very good cars!
The loading point at the back is high to keep the chassis sturdy.
The windows that dont wind down are all about weight saving.
This car is around 1000 kgs.
+MRsjovealek How? He makes extremely good points. I also fully agree with him.
+MRsjovealek It's a cheap car, yes. You are seriously just a hater as you point out ONE thing which is bad about it, and complain like it is the biggest problem in the world.
+MRsjovealek 1. Pop Out Windows do not matter. 2. Styling is subjective. 3. Again, it is subjective. 4. It isn't always about the size of an engine.
+MRsjovealek You are not realising that you can not state something is ugly. It may be your opinion but it is not a fact. As a result of you thinking that your opinion is a fact I am not going to argue.
+MRsjovealek So? That doesn't make it a fact
Interesting car. Definitely a big plus. Like it.
Why there is no sun blind ? Do they know what is this🌞, what is 30 degree celsius ? How blocking of UV rays will prevent heating ?
UV rays generate heat I guess? But I am pretty confident that a team of qualified engineers dealt with the problem...
Beautiful car thinking about getting it full black hmm
So those two "issues" aren't............... with me.
good looking car :D
I test drove this recently and it is indeed very fun and feels nice to cruise about in. However the driving position is super-awkward with the lack of adjustment in the steering wheel and the gear box is ridiculous! The amount of movement when changing gear and when it's in gear, as the review showed, is just crazy. Still liked the car overall though, and I had a high hopes for it as I want to change mine. Alas, this one didn't convince me to buy it though.
that thing is cool ugly or not so wish they had them in the states.
Yes, the best "City car".
Jeep Cherokee KL front, Porsche Cayenne 955 rear, Pontiac Azteca soul. Love older French cars but not feeling the cactus man. Great Review Mat!
I like it, I would definitely but one if I could afford it :)
Maybe it`s just me, but the C4 Cactus i had a look at, on a autoshow, was pretty uncomfortable, but maybe that example had some different seats.
I also did bang my head into the roof, when i wanted to lean forward, in the front seats.
"Cactus" LOL
Best. Name. Ever.
Seriously.
Is this car all wheel drive? If not why it is called SUV?
I have the same car the best thing is the camera I like
Wish we had this in America
Citroen is perhaps appealing to people who change their cars every 6 months. Other than that it's just silly. With this particular car they seemed overly obsessed with looking cool. But no matter how cool your car is to you when you get it, within 6 months it's just another commuter and the more practical stuff gets appreciated more.
Ignore about "fun to drive" crap they're saying. If you like the look buy it
what color is this car
i'd be OK with pop out windows, i don't really like 60 mph wind in my face i don't get people who do
If I could get one with the roof for under £7000 would be brilliant (second hand, under 50,000, with parking sensors and reversing camera , also if there is an option for auto parking I'd love it.
+willy wacky
Defiantly good car though but i am not going to trade my 8 year old C4 for Cactus :).
Times that by two and you'll also have more weight.
vue aussi au salon de Toulouse (Citroen Cactus M) joli voiture
Wow, that car makes the nissan juke look like a desirable sports car in comparison....
The guys who dislikes this car are the same who say that the 1955 Citroen DS was a piece of shit.
Times are changing, but assholes still remain the same.
I am proud of my C3 Picasso, and even if i am a patriot,my former cars were 2 Buicks...
Maybe the lip on the boot has a lot to do with being lightweight and maintaining strength?? Mais oui..
Why do reviewers have to nit pick.
It's a good car. If the steering wheel adjustment or the seats don't suit...don't f**kin' buy one.
And when did good brakes become a bad thing...
Airbag in the roof???
Want one
Pop out window and the inability to split the rear seats is a deal breaker for me
why is it called the cactus? Seriously CACTUS!! What are you going to say to your mates when they ask you about what you're driving?
A cactus is full of pricks lol
would you tell someone you drive a 301iHybridpower or however bmws are branded
no you would just say you have a bmw 5 series or something
RidiculousComedy00 Because it is light and is economical with fuel as a Cactus is with water, you still learn something in school do you? ;)
oh i see but its still a dumb name lol
Carbuyer you make no sense: You rated this car 5/5 on your website and yet half of the review is about its disadvantages, most of which are pretty major. Fair enough if you think its really good overall, but its clearly not perfect so why give it a 5/5?
Good review Matt as always! Shame about the car think its the ugliest car of 2014...
Not ugly car it's had a lot of awards won engine of year 3 years in a row
@@sejautie it's very dated now, I had one for a hire car didn't like the ride at all
@@picklesrule69 got the rip curl edition not a bad car for the money better than Nissan Juke yes there better car's out there but brand new rip curl Cactus is just under tweenty grand got mine 16 plate 9 thousands miles 11 grand I wanted a Audi A3 but the citeron has the best 3 cylinders engines beating vw 3 cylinders
@@picklesrule69 they are dated now most cars are same with lot of stuff like LCD TV are dated now it's oled if you got money you can change it every couple of years Peugeot 2008 3008 best value on the market now I'm not a French car fan but like those German cars cheating emmisons put my car against there emmisons they would not win
How tall are you? I see the car is shorter than you
How much would it cost to send one to the U.S.?
1000 dollars for shipping
Am I the only one who sees some hints of 2014 and newer Jeep Cherokee ?
Jeep copied Citroën, the frontal design was already projected for the C4 Picasso
Very good car...
