I like his focus on courseload design. Ppl often underestimate a load’s importance
Tho cousin went a bit _too_ light the first 2 yrs, so then jr/sr year she had to play catch up with the 3 hard sciences per semester 🥵. What’s been working for me is 1 or 2 hard classes, and then the rest as easier ones & sticking with that same design as much as possible 😅

Hey man I just wanted to say thank you so much for making this. I start at Berkeley in the Fall and I am so freaking nervous for all the pre-med requirements I will have to take on. This really loosened my nerves. Easily earned my sub 🤝

I am a UC Berkeley grad physician. I was an economics major and didn’t think about med school until late in my curriculum. I would recommend majoring in a subject that you enjoy. Being a science major confers no advantage once you get to med school. In fact, the whole idea that physics, chemistry and biology proficiency translates to clinical excellence as a physician is insane to me. Choose a passion and immerse yourself thoroughly in it. Take the skeleton pre-med requirements and you do need to kick ass in them. You don’t need to be a science nerd to get admitted to med school.

I agree, but I also disagree. You should take a major your enjoy without a doubt, at some point though you will need to learn the bio physics and chem for the MCAT.

Please could you tell me which classes are part of the science Gpa? Is it the pre-med pre-requisite only? Or Sociology and Psychology are part of it too? Because I have B+ in them and I am scared that my Gpa will be lower

Good video....i am berkelely grad...1979....went 4 years..then straight to med school...i took all the classes you did....except they were on quarter systems then!....very fast paced..12 week quarters..with 3 midterms then final....you were 100%always studying for exams.....i was a bacteriology major......i agree with most of video...trying to get your breadth requirements done while taking hard core science classes was a challenge...reading books...writing papers...difficult for science/math oriented students......i will tell you that i took 4 AP courses in high school...had 3.96 gpa in high school....went to CAL...thinking im gonna just kick ass!....dude 1st quarter qas a rude awakening!....every person had the same qualifications!.....for 4 years i studied 7 days a week....no parties..no clubs...no drinking...i didnt no anyone else in my classes who did different!....it was intense!...we thought we were cool if moffit library closed but we had a key to grad rooms in evans hall to study after that!...2am! Was pretty normal for exam times and weekends!.......didnt go to football or any sports games....the thing is when you went to library...you saw everyone doing the same thing!....i saw in a college book that describes all universities...life..and what its like....for UC berkeley they said this!...." full of souless grade mongers!"...hows that...thats 100% accurate....did i get a good education ?...hell yes...was it easy?...fuck no!... you better be prepared or you will get run over...my chem 1 A class had 2000 people in it..lots of pre meds...my chem 1C( 3rdquarter)...had 800....1200 people left!...if you get a C...its over...big weed out courses there!....brutal competition..........on a positive note...med school was easy compared to UC berkelely....my study skillset was light years beyond everyone...why?..because of UC Berkelely!.....my advice......i would not recommend going to CAL unless.....1...you really love to study!...i mean 7 days a week...weekends 8am-10pm library hours...then finding more places to study!.....2....you really get off on grade competition and getting that A ..really makes you feel that all that hard work was worth it!....3.....you realize that CAL doesnt believe in grade inflation like stanford.....to get an A....it really does mean something.....and if you go and get in med school....believe me it will be so much easier then CAL!..

My first semester at UC Berkeley is next month and I intend to major in MCB! I love your channel. All your videos are very helpful for someone going into premed. Would you recommend I take Chem 32 if my foundation in chemistry isn't strong? My only concern would be having an even heavier workload later on.

    • @avmed1445

I would say to talk to an advisor or people who have recently taken Chem 32 vs Chem 1A. I personally didn't have a great background in chemistry (B in HS honors chem) but I was able to go straight into Chem 1A and succeed by keeping my unit load really low. Good luck!

Should I go to a smaller less competitive undergrad college to keep my GPA up as a premed. I have full tuition to a smaller college. My dad thinks it’s better to go to a bigger college in my town where it would cost me 20k. What is your take on it.
