Can you imagine laying all this brick? Incredible. Where did this workmanship and skill come from and go to? I can't even picture the incredible amount of actual work to get this completed and have it all come together.
It is incredible. And I am part of the next generation stonemasons, also from Pembroke born and bread which is the heart of Pembrokeshire, Wales. Have a good day
What a beautiful location. This should be bought over, restored and used as a tourist attraction due to the history of it. Keep the videos coming Sam and Jess
This would make one of the most awesome castle-type homes, or insanely cool resort-style Bed & Breakfast destinations, I've ever seen in my life... WOW. Wow. Wow!!
The small alcoves with small ports was where gunpowder pack explosives were stored. The alcoves without small ports were where the iron projectiles were stored. The small ports in some of the alcoves were over pressure vents incase of an accidental explosion and the gasses could escape without damaging other storage areas. The wooden floors were there to reduce sparking from shoes and iron wheels of rolling stock.
Just amazing!!! Thank you for sharing this beauty. This is something I would not have ever seen without people like you who do this. Sending so much appreciation and respect to you all. Love from Florida.
As mentioned so nice to see no graffiti or vandalism. Here in the US it is awful what people destroy. Love old forts here as well. Insane the skills of these people to build such things mostly by hand!
Incredible, yet again. This would be so good to turn into a tourist destination with accomodation Imagine being rich and turning this into your home ? So much history THANKYOU again
Awesome place! I could see it being restored made into a awesome vacation and tourist resort with hotel rooms to rent, stores, cafés, Diners. a Pubs with music and other festivities. Of course the rooms and store and places would have to be made water proof like a ship, from storms
This is one of those things which makes me wish I were a bazillionaire. I'd turn this into a part-private residence, with the rest open to visitors, restored as closely as possible to it's original condition.
It's original condition was a rock. It's been built on and built on until abandonment. No sane project really seems likely to save it from returning to a rock.
@@georgemasson6125 Indeed. What I do find interesting is that we have a fort here that has been built upon from not long after 1612, the year of Bermuda's settlement by the British. It stopped all major development in the late 19th century, and sports very similar gun emplacements, using the same guns, and I think that's why I have a special place for Stack Rock. Like Stack Rock, It also played a part in the two world wars, having been retrofitted with a couple of semi-obsolete naval defense guns (thank god we were never challenged by the German navy lol). Fort St. Catherine has, thankfully, been preserved as a museum though, and has quite an extensive network of tunnels, magazines and barracks running underneath.
That was a fabulous video Sam & Jess. What an amazing place, better than watching any history channel. I love how you narrate the history over the drone footage it comes over really professional..they say it's lucky to have a seagull poop on you 😀🥰

But thanks to you and your friends, another relic of the past comes alive if only for a few minutes while we visually take in the massive commitment and effort, not to mention the sacrifice, a country, and its people are willing to do to protect themselves. Stack Rock Fort was built between 1850 and 1852 and briefly used during WWI before being disarmed in 1929. This property was also suggested by Thomas Cromwell as a Fort site as early as the 1500's to defend against French invasion.

The gunpowder storage rooms down at the bottom of the fort would have been lighted by oil lamps in the niches. On the storage room's side, these would have had a fixed glass pane so as to protect the gunpowder from any sparks or fire. On the corridor's side would also be a glass pane, but that would be hinged to allow the lamps to be fueled and lit. Inside the storage room, the men would wear wooded clogs, again to avoid sparks from their usual hobnailed boots. All their tools (hammers, screwdrivers, ...) would be made of brass which doesn't spark when it hits metal.
@@kd5you1 of course, brass is metal but not all metal is the same. One of the properties of brass is that it pulls no sparks when it hits other metals. Quite handy and safe in a gun powder room or - in the present days - on board of an oil or gas tanker.

Up for sale for GBP245k in 2020 - bought by a consortium who intend to turn it into an adventure activity centre (similar to Fort Boyard or one of the Spitbank forts?).
