Since there are so many open questions and requests, we did a follow-up! Watch a new Italian ghost town exploration here: ua-cam.com/video/-5tznjeYABE/v-deo.html After posting this first ghost town video from our recent Italy trip, we got in touch with several locals who could explain why there are many of such uninhabited villages all across the country. Houses with everything in it were simply abandoned. The Italian people who reached out to us helped us understand this rather complex subject. It is not that easy for people to return to their old homes. The insights we learned are part of our second ghost town exploration.
God bless and keep them. I don't think I have been there even so I did visited quite a few Italian places including my friend's home up in the mountain somewhere so remote and very close to some borders. Very sad to this facts only can pray.
Forgive my grammar but English is my forth language and I'll try to do the best as I can... . I don't know how I got to this video but it sure brings back memories of my friends in Tuscany.. They lived in one of the most attractive villages and I use to go and visit them, spend time in different places, enjoying artifacts and building of the medieval times. The weekly market in the main square was also one of my favorite. It made me feel like I was back in time. I was very fascinated by everything and I made sure that every time I went to Italy they would be on my list of friends to visit. I took many videos and pictures and I will always treasure them.. My friends life changed very suddenly when the government notified them and the rest of the people in the village that they had to evacuate because the village was in danger. The village was build on a rocky hill. Underneath there was an active coal mine where miners would excavate coal every day. The government of the region knew of the danger but never said anything until the hill was in the verge of collapsing... My friends left many thing behind, always with the intention of retrieving them once they had settle but unfortunately, shortly after they left, the government locked up all the houses and they were prohibited to enter. Years later (by then they lived in the city) on one of my visits, I told them that I would like to have gone back to see the village. They showed their sadness and told me that the village was blocked and we couldn't not enter. I told them, as long as we have a mind and 2 good working legs we will find a way and, if anyone would asks questions, let me do the talking and I will tell them I don't speak Italian..😂 It took them 3 days to decide but finally they agreed to go. For me it was exiting to return to the village and I didn't understand why it was so difficult for them. Their new place was beautiful and they had everything a person could have asked for, but still, there was something there that I couldn't figure out. When we arrived to the village, to my amazement, all the greenery were overgrown and in places it looked like a jungle. The houses were visible but everyone of them were securely locked. I looked up to the top of the hill and there stood my friend's house. The good memories got to me and I got very emotional. Tears came to my eyes but, my friend hugged me and whisper; you're not the only one that feels that way and she started to cry.. Right then I understood why it was so difficult for them to return to the village. They could see their house but couldn't get to it. And even if they could, they couldn't get in. They told me later that in that house they had left half of their most precious memories (their family and their children pictures and much of the belongings past down from generation) and couldn't get to them. Many times they asked for permission to enter, but permission was never granted. With sadness we start walking down a small path, that path took us in front a rocky wall on the side of the hill where the people from the village had build a small shrine of the Virgin Mary, in honor of the 48 people of the village that were shot on that wall during the war. We sat on a rock and they took the time to tell me as much history as they could about the village with a great enthusiastic look on their faces. Any one could tell they were happy to be there and that they missed the place. I learned more history about the village that day then all of the previous times put together. They missed their home, their belongings, their friends and the life they were building for themselves in that particular village. Unfortunately, the government took all that away in a blink of an eye.. The sadness that belongs to those ghosts villages could make anyone cry long after the people have moved on.. Thank you so much for the beautiful video and for bringing back wonderful memories. 💖 Good luck to you on your next exploration...I hope that someday you will get to the village that I left my heart...

Did you know that subtitles is not only for people who doesn't understand your language but also for people who are mute and deaf? Thank you for subtitles by the way 🥰
I'm in between. I'm fluent in English, but it's not my first language and I also have some mild hearing loss. I'm not deaf, but sometimes I have to ask people to repeat what they said even in my own language. The two things combined make it much easier for me to understand English with subtitles than without them.

hey guys ,im a fellow creator and your subscriber, I very much like the narration and inner thoughts during the exploration, also your respect and empathy. I just wanted to say this episode helped me a lot, im going through heavy stuff, I was just watching this for a break from reality, and the deep thoughts of what home is , ended up helping me think about things in a different way, every little bit helps, thank you for expanding my awareness. peace and safety to you. carry on !
Being Italian and knowing what happened and where, i’m really impressed for the respect you guys showed when approaching this lonely village and more importantly its houses and souls that still live there, in a certain way. We all are terribly sorry for their loss. All I can say, following your work, is that if I were the owner of a house there and if I had recognised mine, in my heart even if not present, I would have given you permission. Remarkable job guys. Well done🧡🇮🇹
This is why I watch these guys over other urban explorers. They're always respectful of the history they are walking through. I've been watching for years and have never seen or heard irreverence from them.
From a person who doesnt own anything much and very unattached, I feel sorry to the residents of this beautiful village. I roamed around in Italy for about 6 months like in Olbia, Monfalcone, Venice and Rome, so I kind of picture how layback and chill this place were. May they find peace wherever they are now.
you guys are amazing. imagine being one of the residents and somehow got to watch these videos and goes “this used to be where my family had a life”, what would their thoughts be, honestly? thank you for these videos and for sharing them to us. your videos means a lot for me.

Send us a private message on Instagram or Facebook, or send us an email (thebwt@gmx.de), and we will put your name on the waiting list to make sure you get one of the limited calendars. Be safe, but keep exploring!
Thanks for making this easy . I am so glad I have one reserved. If anyone is considering buying 1, you will love it. 2020 calendar is beautiful and the stories are awesome 😎
The fact that this place has remained standing for 10 years after the earthquake proves there was no legitimate reason the former owners should have been prevented from retrieving their property. What a dumb, terrible waste.
Government and powerful interests always have ways of stealing property. I agree with your comment, especially after I think I heard the term redevelopment. People will return one day but we know it wont be the rightful owners. Excellent observation!
Imagine that after surviving all the horrors of the quakes, your dad went back in there to retrieve a photo album and some family pieces. And a wall collapses on him, and you never see your dad again. Would it be worth it ?
@@renooakes5923 Cool, but I don't engage in hypotheticals. It's not hard to call an engineer a month or two later to assess whether any given building is sound enough to begin moving stuff out. They did that anyway when they were choosing which buildings to brace. At the end of the day, the person going in assumes all risk. Whether it's worth it is for each man to decide for himself.
Showed some of this to my mom and asked "What if that was us?" She was like I don't know. I feel for those people who just had to abandon everything that meant something to them. I told her you were doing this because you like it and she was like the video is so professional looking. I told you that is the way YOU guys are. You guys deserve all the accolades because to me you are a very down to earth people who gives a glimpse into the past and gives the facts to tell your story. You are preserving history in your own way. Thanks to all you do and stay safe.
It's Nearly happen to me I planned to move out of town and I can't bring all my stuffs,I just renting of apartment here in the city so when I moved out in town I abandoned almost my stuffs like furniture and ect.it was sad but I can't bring all of these if where I go...
I also came here from Shiey's video. Google maps show an amazing difference between 2008 and today (especially on the main square), and also show that northern part of the town is rehabitated again
There is something strangely eerie about an abandoned town like this. So much life interrupted in an instant leaves behind an impression, and yet, Nature quietly reaches into the spaces from where it had once been tamed into gardens. Thank you for sharing this.🖤🇨🇦
I hope some of the people who lived here see this and are inspired to return and collect some of their possessions. Nothing lasts forever, but new artefacts do not replace some of the antiques left behind.
The Italian culture has a style, an ornate, lasting style that I find intriguing and beautiful. It has an intimacy about it. This is a tragedy. But I do truly appreciate this glimpse of a part of their lives.
It would be nice if the residents whose homes are safe if they could go back and retrieve some of their belongings. The church too. If possible. Moved years ago to a different state. We're suppose to be getting a big earthquake soon or in the next 150 years. Only then would I be able to know what those unfortunate people survived. If I do?
What really struck me was how they lived all connected to each other, like one huge house with separate living quarters. That would be very comforting. Not much privacy though.
That's how it's like in my southeast asian culture too. But only our houses/apartments are right beside each other with extended families like aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents in adjacent lots. Because in my country, land plot deed is shared from a parent to equally their children. So for example, my grandparents have 6 children (my mom and 2 aunts, 3 uncles); so my grandparents' plot of land is divided into 6, hence we have 6 apartment/house in a "housing complex" style.
@@_Just_Another_Guy you cant compare. Architecture and construction in south east asia is more like a slum, and you dont have enough space. The biggest city in Italia has less than 3 millions people inside the city .and they build real houses or apartments.
I remember hearing about those earthquakes and praying for the safety of the people in that village. You are so right that our lives can change in an instant.
It’s beautiful even in its abandoned state. I can easily imagine that village with families, friends and merchants. What a devastating loss for all of them. 😞 This one really made my heart ache.
@@communication.skills.matter I can’t even begin to imagine what leaving (or not being able to go back there) must have been like for you. I hope that you, your family and your friends are all happy and healthy and looking forward to a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 🤗

No dust on the items!, that is an ideal place to live it's gorgeous splendid architecture. Such a shame people cannot collect their personal sentimental items. Great job guys.
I was living in France when the devastating earthquake in 2010 happened. It’s very sad to see lives left behind so quickly. I write this as mandatory evacuations for wildfire in Northern Colorado threaten the borders of the city where I live and I have been thinking about what I will do if I must evacuate in a moment’s notice. This was a beautiful video. Thank you.
@@alohamd165 Thank you so much! I appreciate it. Yes, I have a friend in California who lost a home to fire a second time this year! It’s devastating! I hope the big fire near me won’t cross into the city limits. I know firefighters are working hard to ensure it doesn’t. I appreciate the well-wishes!
Pack an emergency backpack, and then pack as much nostalgia in your cars and everything irreplaceable, when the threat has passed you can unpack it. However it's better to be safe rather than sorry
@@Rosibrosibuns Totally. Thankfully, today, my city has received about 7”/18 cm of snow!! I think the mountain areas just to the west of me are receiving much more and of course significantly reducing the fire spread. Some areas have got to be so hot, it will take more snow. But it’s really turning a corner because of this. Now the concern will be flooding and landslides, but the imminent danger from fire is passed for me right now. It’s been a good reminder to have things at the ready. I’m going to work on this!
I feel sorry for the lives gone in that town. I don't want to be dramatic but I really want to cry seeing how beautiful the town seems to be on its olden days and now it's just sad. Hugs and kisses for all survivors.
Sad to see the town without people. Thank you for bringing out this story. From the remains we can very well imagine that this must have been a lively place full of life. Sad that people had to leave their homes forever.
You guys do such a terrific job with narrative and some of the most beautiful scenes I’ve ever seen..... you guys are fantastic filmmakers..... Salut from a huge fan in the SE US 🇺🇸!
Very so much true whatever mankind think is a permanent setup and fixtures for them in lifetime, can change in a split second. Where people can find themselves Refugees in their own countries with nothing behind their backs, all luxury lost.
So sad the people who used to live here must be heartbroken: it’s such a beautiful place. But the elements are truly the real owners of all things in the world; they can reclaim them at anytime.
This is why I lay my treasures in heaven and I don't take the things of the world seriously or allow them give me stress.. I live one day at a time and thank God for the gift of life

You know what I think. This is about agenda 21. How could a government make the freaking decision on if someone is allowed to live in their home or not. Creepers.
and what i liked is that they have respect for the remains and dig a history behind these things so that you can re imagine the story or old lives behind every details
I was impressed with the idea that underlined this video. That nothing is forever here on Earth. And, life can change in an instant. We are going through very uncertain times all over the world. I am Sicilian although I live in the USA. Thank you for making this wonderful video. It reminds me to put my faith in what can never be destroyed namely, our souls. Despite the obvious destruction, you can still see relics of what once was a typical beautiful Italian town. The architectural character, the surroundings, everything about it just screams out this is what a Postcard Italian town should look like--albeit, not the destruction aspects. Surely the type of town worth saving if not for its potential living community despite needed re-construction, for its iconic and world heritage value.
Someone else commented it & I agree- these folks are the National Geographic of Urbex! It’s true!!! These videos are just in another universe with even the biggest channels!! The humble & respectful approach to document & record the history, the backstory to the places & things, the artistic quality of the photography & videography - it’s just incredible!!!! Each video is a delight! It feels almost like actually being there in person & I always learn something interesting!! KUDOS! This is pretty much the only Urbex channel I can stand to watch, if I do watch any videos on other channels I have to mute the volume & fast forward through a lot. Their juvenile approach to the entire project, the inappropriate music, the way they have to handle, poke, prod & move objects, the commotion between the explorers, their ignorance as to the history of the places & things, their disregard of dangerous situations like black mold etc is just beyond annoying & makes it just impossible for me to enjoy looking at the places filmed. This channel has NONE of those issues - AT ALL!!! There’s just absolutely no comparison to be perfectly honest! 👏👏👏👏👏
As a mason, I believe these structures were built to withstand some shock (it looks bad, I know) - but they can bend and shift and crumble. Afterwards, they should be repointed and repaired one block at a time - slightly altered to accommodate the change in terrain. Those craftsman who can do this are no longer with us today, therefore, the steel industry has come in to fix the problem. The tragedy might be in the fact that the construction knowledge needed to actually exist in this place has been lost.
We should always remember that everything on Earth is just temporary. God give us everything in order to live and be compassionate to everyone especially the less privileged. God is always the greatest answer and power to all these trials. Be safe and kind always to others. God bless us all🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💖💖💖🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Very well done exploration. That abandoned town stirs up so many thoughts. There are so many beautiful old things in that town - the doors with the knockers, the church artifacts, the furniture in some of the houses. Even the old roof tiles. I would have loved to see that town a hundred years ago.
Iam from Guatemala and here we had an terrific experience with an earthquake, in 1976 and we rebuilt everything, and we are save know , they shouldn’t abandoned their home.
That was my thought too. Isn’t this rather intrusive, especially if the residents are still alive. I am not comfortable with the prurient pleasure these observers are taking, picking up and putting down articles that don’t belong to them.
Living in and passing by are two very different things! I'm sure by now the residents have already resettled somewhere else. Maybe they got some kind of compensation from the government already, or allowed back in and collected important personal items. The rest of their stuff was looted years ago. No harm done.
Too bad there isn't a documentary on this. With interviews of the families who lived there and leading up to the day they had to leave. So neat. I love old buildings. Sad tragedy.

I visited that village in 2005. it was a lovely hilly village with lost of history (pre-roman!). So sad to see it abandoned and in ruins :( I'm so tempted to mention the name and location but you are correct, to protect it from thieves and vandals. Kudos to you.
Great video, exploring this abandoned town, much respect for the sensitivity shown to the former members of that community. A beautiful place, fascinating.
Thank you! You guys have the most excellent videography and stills. Home is a state-of-mind and yours are brilliant! That village looks like it was built on the blown-out side of a volcanic crater! Living on the edge!
Thank you for not telling the location. It appeared on my youtube and I recognized instantly. I lived just in the nearby village. Usually, during the months and years following that night, people were accompanied by firefighters to gather their belongings (of course, only small things). But in some cases, it was just too dangerous. In this village, even the streets are no more accessible.
@@Mr.notBeastt Because it could bring unwanted attention to the neighboring towns nearby. This place might attract a huge number of tourists which would be dangerous for them and a nuisance to the other quiet towns nearby.
What a beautiful ancient town!! I truly hope someone is taking the time to conserve and protect the thousands of wonderful antiques that are left behind in the abandoned structures!!! What usually happens when places like this are “abandoned” is the bank takes ownership of the structure or structures. They then proceed to completely ignore it, and let it be consumed by the weather and animals!!!! The only time they bother to be concerned about it is when a homeless person or random explorer takes an interest in it!! They would rather the beautiful structure and any amazing antiques and art work found there in be completely destroyed by the elements, than let anyone reside in the structure without paying any money!!!!! I know people get very upset if anyone takes anything from these abandoned places because they view it as stealing. And that is a valid point in many cases. BUT when a beautiful handcrafted antique piece of furniture or artwork is otherwise going to be destroyed by the elements, an individual is NOT stealing if they remove the pieces!!! Instead they are rescuing it for posterity!!!! There is absolutely no good reason to allow something that another human being made with their own two hands, bringing it forth from their imagination and spending 100s of hours creating it!!!! They did this because they wanted other human beings to enjoy it!!! Not to let it be destroyed by nature!!!! Cheers
Was für ein zauberhafter Ort 😍…und wie traurig ist die Geschichte dazu 😞 Ob es wirklich noch Hoffnung gibt, dass dieses Kleinod wieder zum Leben erweckt wird? Danke für diesen Beitrag 💐

Did you know that subtitles is not only for people who doesn't understand your language but also for people who are mute and deaf? Thank you for subtitles by the way 🥰
One can turn on subtitles by clicking in a little box that reads cc, at the up right hand of videos, they’re available in many if them. 😊
I'm in between. I'm fluent in English, but it's not my first language and I also have some mild hearing loss. I'm not deaf, but sometimes I have to ask people to repeat what they said even in my own language. The two things combined make it much easier for me to understand English with subtitles than without them.
I’m not any of those things I just have trouble paying attention and put subtitles on everything

It looks like somebody else had already been there looting for valuables. The city is beautiful. I can imagine people living there.

I hope so too.

That's the style of italian mountains villages
@@_Just_Another_Guy you cant compare. Architecture and construction in south east asia is more like a slum, and you dont have enough space. The biggest city in Italia has less than 3 millions people inside the city .and they build real houses or apartments.

Cheers
