This is it: the product of months and months and months of video essay podcasting. We will finally rank the ten Ernest P. Worrell films. Will Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam beat out fan favorite Ernest Scared Stupid? Will Ernest Goes To Camp get a place alongside the other Disney-funded Jim Varney vehicles?
Tune in, sit down, and wonder along with us as we debate for nearly an hour: it's the finale of Ernest Roulette! Guaranteed* Video welcomes you! Neil Cicierega, Ryan Murphy, Kevin J. James, blah blah!
#ernestroulette #GuaranteedVideo
Kevin really putting his back into getting his picks
"Alright, let's get into this. What was your favorite thing about Jail? And on the other hand, what was the biggest weakness in Scared?"
"Wait, is there any point to this list?"
Made some nostalgic thirty-somethings happy for a few months, if nothing else. Thanks again, guys.
Gonna have to go track down Dr. Otto now.
Not a day goes by I don't wish Jim Varney was still with us. Gourd bless you boys for keeping his memory alive.
fun fact they could not afford another actor toplay vern that why vern was the camera
unfortunatly i dont trust rotten tomatoes or imdb often
Hey Verne! I'm back from the grave, it's time to bring those little ol brains over here so I can munch on em!
This was a very fun podcast series, even as someone who has never seen an Ernest movie! I'll miss that "ERN-EST ROU-LETTE!" jingle...
The only Ernest Podcast - WITH A WHEEL!
Stupid
Scared Stupid had my favorite gag in ALL the Ernest movies, and it was twice in the movie. He says "I never knew when to quit! Just ask my fourth grade teacher!" And it cuts to this stern woman in a quiet classroom with Ernest as a kid writing on the chalkboard, and all deadpan she says "He never knew when to quit."
And he starts scratching the chalkboard and she smacks him in the head.
Kevin really showing his bias for Jail in this one.
No shit dumbass it's a film review lol
hi sorry old comment and this has nothing to do with anything, but i just want you to know this fucking pfp is making me cry laughing. can i please ask where it's from
That's how a film review works you goddamn moron
Ghoulies Roulette needs to come next.
I don't know. I think either the Critters or Tremors series should go before Ghoulies.
But I like the way you think!
I love that line *'Now, I know what you're thinking at home. "Kevin, you've ranked these movies every episode..." Well Jackass, we're going to do it again!'*
The next series should be to re-watch every Ernest film, but this time, decided by pulling a title out of an Ernest hat. Just so you can say *Well Jackass, we're going to do it again!*
N: - You remember seeing it as a kid?
R: - Yes.
N: - You remember liking it as a kid?
R: - No.
N: - (sounds of defeat)
lol
Nope Opposite your in the minority report buddy
I guess we do know what he means after all.....
I'd watch you guys review mediocre film series 7 days a week if I could.
Because of you guys I watched dr otto. It was much better than I anticipated.
10. Ernest in the army
9. Ernest rides again
8. Ernest goes to Africa
7. Slam Dunk Ernest
6. Ernest goes to school
5. Dr. Otto
4. Ernest Scared Stupid
3. Ernest goes to camp
2. Ernest Saves Christmas
1. Ernest Goes to Jail
Ernest in the jury box with his pen exploding is as funny as any scene in any Ernest movie
I want the other Kevin James and Ryan Murphy to rank the Ernest films.
I honestly think the Ernest movies got better with age. As an adult, I really appreciate Jim Varney's acting range, and they clearly had fun making them - especially that Ernest Rides Again theme song.
Better than all the woke shit they have now. They make the Ernest films look far more appealing.
Sad that it's over but glad that it happened.
It was cool to see someone breakdown these movies in such a strong fan like passion. It’s kinda like when you get a few hardcore Three Stooges fans together talking about their favorite episodes and going over which episode had the most or best jokes or them in their best full-form routine.
I came home from work one day, & herd my kids laughfing their faces off. Checking what they were watching it was Ernest Goes to Camp. My kids love Ernest. Gotta find more Enrest for them😂.
Ernest saves Christmas is super under rated as a Christmas special.
Ernest Scared Stupid is way better than Hocus Pocus. So is The Witches. People need to chill out about Hocus Pocus.
It's hard to argue against Sarah Jessica Parker's cleavage and that Bette Midler I Put A Spell on You cover.
What I love about The Witches is that a freaking child mouse and his diabetic grandmother became the greatest monster killers in history. By the end of that movie they had better funding and better intelligence than S.H.I.E.L.D.
meh, shouldnt be a competition, just like whichever you like best and be happy.
Agree on both,, also say the 1995 Casper was better too.
@@efan2012 110%
As someone who didn't grow up with Ernest at all, this review series has been one of my favorite things I've watched in a long time. I don't think I've seen anything with Varney in it besides Toy Story, but I've really got a newfound respect for him now!
the guy from The Lawn Mowing Man just called me a Jackass!
i feel oddly flattered.
I feel like you’re filmmaking sensibilities got the better of you by putting Jail and Otto so high. My family loved Earnest but Jail was one of the least of them. But I appreciated you saying this is your list, the Guaranteed Video list. And I respect how you got to those decisions.
Loved watching this series and maybe in the future you can do similar series lists with actors or characters like John Candy or Pauly Shore. Thanks.
I had a blast watching all your earnest reviews along the way! At one point someone joked about discussing Ernest Goes To Splash Mountain. I was hoping you’d all cover that! Thanks so much guys!👏
Well I might as well throw in my rankings. Agree to disagree. KnowWhatIMean?
1. Ernest Goes to Jail
2. Ernest Saves Christmas
3. Ernest Goes to Camp
4. Ernest Scared Stupid
5. Slam Dunk Ernest
6. Ernest Goes to School
7. Dr. Otto & the Riddle of the Gloom Beam
8. Ernest Rides Again
9. Ernest in the Army
10. Ernest Goes to Africa
I saw Rides Again in theaters, my lone Ernest theater experience, lol.
What I want so much is a series exactly like this but for all the marx brothers movies
I've only seen 5 Ernest movies, but I had them in the same order as you guys, so I'm feeling pretty good:
1) Ernest Goes to Jail
2) Ernest Scared Stupid
3) Ernest Goes to Camp
4) Ernest Saves Christmas
5) Slam Dunk Ernest
Great series you guys. Been aboard for all 11 installments, they've been the highlight of my week! Looking forward to your next project, whatever it may be. :) Best of luck!
Jim Varney left us 20 years ago today. RIP Ernest you are missed
I am a huge Ernest fan and I agree we have to keep talking about him to keep him in the public conscience.
If you guys are looking for another film series to review and rank, all seven Police Academy films are on HBO Max.
Thank you guys for doing this series.
Put what happens after this? I'll be sad that the podcast is over.
We're going to get back to doing short films and another video podcast we've been cooking up. We ALSO want to return to Ernest Roulette for a future special or two sometime in 2019.
I'm glad to hear that you guys are going to come back to this series for The Forbidden Ernest Movie.
@@GuaranteedVideo I mentioned this in another video but this past New Year's Eve I was watching Old School New Year's Eve ball drops and came across Ernest during the 88 to 89 ball drop easily findable on UA-cam which is where I watched it. I think it would be cool to.mention noticeable appearances in future videos.
I saw your comment! I shared it with the guys last night. Great find!
@@GuaranteedVideo I'd love it if for a future video podcast you covered Ernest Goes to Splash Mountain as part of a Disney Park promos/specials podcast.
I hate to be this person (and I'm sure you guys have heard this), but, why haven't you guys covered "Knowhutimean? Hey Vern, It's My Family Album"? Dr.Otto arguably only had Ernest for a quick minute and yet, its on this list. I think its worth an episode to explore the family album as Varney explores many characters that are hinted toward throughout these movies. Though, I understand if you guys are burnt out.
Ernest Scared Stupid is WAAAYYY better than Hocus Pocus.
ive never seen an ernest movie but i love these videos
From what I remember:
1. Ernest Scared Stupid
2. Ernest Saves Christmas
3. Ernest Goes to Jail
4. Slam Dunk Ernest
5. Ernest Goes to Camp
6. Ernest Goes to School
7. Ernest Rides Again
I've seen more than I thought.
For me it’s
1. Ernest Goes to Jail
2. Ernest Saves Christmas
3. Ernest Scared Stupid
4. Ernest Goes to Camp
5. Ernest Goes to School
6. Slam Dunk Ernest
7. Ernest Rides Again
8. Ernest in the Army
9. Dr. Otto (sorry, guys)
10. Ernest Goes to Africa
What a great series (even though Scared Stupid totally should have won 1st). Would love to see more like this from you guys!
Disagree, jail was the best
When I just wanna search some Ernest clips on UA-cam, it's always from Jail
Saw Ernest scared stupid in the theater when it came out as a kid. My little sister (5 yo ) at the time had night terrors for months afterwards. We love Ernest. Goes to camp is our favorite.
hmmm,
I would probably go
1. Scared Stupid
2. Christmas
3. Jail
4. Camp
5. Dr. Otto
for the top 5.
Top 5 Ernest movies: 1) Christmas, 2) Camp, 3) Jail, 4) Scared, 5) Ernest Rides Again (the most forgotten, underrated Ernest movie).
ive always been a little baffled at ryan's shift on christmas. in the original episode, he's totally on the side of it being fun and heartwarming, but for some reason, he bluntly says it sucks in this one. opinions can change, of course, im just curious what brought it on.
Agreed! Who hurt you, Ryan? lol
"slam dunk could've been really really really racist but it wasnt" lmao the people who whine about racism are the ones who assuming something like basketball is just going to be fried chicken and watermelon. Remember how racist Space Jam was everybody. Remember how racist and bad and evil Airbud was. Remember when andre the giant wore blackface to play Shaq on Blue Chips. Do you guys even know who Karem Abdul Jabbar is? He wouldn't dare do a movie that was just racism.
Huge fan from Lynn, MA
I recently watched Onyx The Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls which tries SO hard to be Scared Stupid and completely forgets you need to make your weirdo manchild lovable.
Ernest scared stupid should be first place
I grew up on most of the Ernest movies and I loved them as a kid. If there were adult jokes I never noticed. Also surprised to see you guys pick Jail for #1 cause that one was always my Favorite followed by Scared Stupid and Camp
I feel like you are the next Red Letter Media. Keep it up!
I have watched this series from the beginning and am genuinely bummed that it's over. I don't know how you guys can top this nostalgic train ride, but I'm hoping you try. Any chance you guys could potentially rank every Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark episodes? I feel like you guys would slay that.
Great work, guys!
In my opinion the hidden gem of the Ernest body of work is the Saturday morning tv show "Hey Vern, Its Ernest!" It was a children's show written by John Cherry and Coke Sams. They were able to experiment with Jim Varney and the Ernest character by putting him in short funny skits. Even a callback to Dr. Otto and other inside jokes here and there. Very well done series. And thank you guys for giving Ernest some well deserved coverage. He seems to be forgotten and missing from a lot of the recent Nostalgia trends.
Watched every episode! Great stuff.
It has been a wonderful ride with you guys But this has probably been brought up before but why was Hey Vern! It's My Family Album not
considered with the rest of the Earnest features?
Thanks for the series!
I admit I initially skipped out on this series even though I've been watching all of Neil's videos since forever. But damn was this great. I've never seen a single Ernest movie, and yet now I'll defend that man with my life.
i wasn’t even alive when the ernest movies came out and they were still a huge part of my childhood
Great in depth debate for the number one spot at the end there. I will miss this show.
Ernest movies may not be great, but they were a very large part of my childhood. I still look back on them fondly. Thanks Jim Varney, Rest in Peace!
Have any of you heard of the movie Existo? Directed by Coke Sams. Jim Varney has an insanely good scene in that xD
If I had seen that ice cream commercial as a kid (who loves the Ernest films) and they actually let him say bullshit on TV, I probably would've laughed so hard that I would not be here to post this comment as I'm laughing at the outtake again as an adult.
Just subbed to your channel! I'll be watching tonight's ep.
Thanks!
I did it! I completed the definitive ernest movie review series! Great job!
I've never seen Ernest. I don't plan to, but I think I know where I'd start now if I did. Just great to hear your thoughts on these movies. Thanks.
Ernest goes to Africa is in my top 3.
Is this replacing Wheel of the Worst?
Yes, they're going to keep repeat watching Ernest forever and ever now.
Well Roulette had ended, so Void replaced Roulette .
Very cool, very cool.
IS JACK PACCARD REPLACING MAX PACHECO?
I saw a RLM reference and I clapped.
It's been five years. What Ernest movie are you watching tonight?
You guys are way too hard on Chuck and Bobby. I really like Chuck as an actor. Seems like a fun guy. He's got a great line delivery. "Bobby. Something bad wrong here."
The best Ernest movie is Ernest Scared Stupid
46:06 Alright Neil, it's been 5 years, which Ernest Movie are we watching tonight?
I see I wasn't the only one waiting for this day.
1:08 damn, I really liked “Rides Again”. Granted I am someone who watched it and Goes to Camp immediately upon video release.
The Halloween was my favorite movie
You watched the Christmas movie and didn't like it as a kid? What are you, the Grinch?
scared stupid is better than Hocus Pocus
What were not going to do is act like this isn't the best series in UA-cam. This is awesome
Where'd you guys get the Ernest vest and hat? I'd love to have my own Ernest wardrobe
1. Ernest Scared Stupid
2. Ernest Saves Christmas
3. Ernest Goes to Jail
4. Ernest Goes to Camp
Those are the only four I ever saw.
Scared stupid gang will rise up mark my words
Ernest Rides Again was the last Ernest movie I loved. I didn't like Slam Dunk or School very much and Army even less. Also, when I first saw Africa in a video store I was surprised they'd made another one. I'm putting Rides Again at 5.
never noticed this before but why does jim varney's james cagney impression sound like ronald reagan
Why was doctor Otto even in this, it’s so wildly different than the rest of the films.
Imo Scared Stupid is leagues above the rest of the movies its not even close.
Ernest scared stupid is the best in my opinion.
Sure am glad it's raining song will always put camp in top two for me.
very well done and amazing as i was just looking up ernest videos lol
i agree with the top 2 , dont care for any others lol. I like his commercials better than the other movies
very happy about jail being #1 thank you
Ernest scared stupid is the god among Ernest movies
Actually, one of the episodes of an old series and fanmade characters I made was inspired by Goes To Jail
Kyle, Cody's dopleganger (Cody from Total DramaRama)
I have a 12” toy of Ernest with a pull string in his back that makes him talk. Best thrift store buy ever. It was in its box too!
Madea went to jail. An Ernest influence?
As well as Boo A Medea Halloween AND A Medea Christmas.
You know what I think killed those later movies. In between ""Ernest Goes To Jail" or it could've been "Ernest Scared Stupid" to when "Ernest Rides Again" came out it was a few years in between he hadn't done anything in a while for a period of time. Not even a commercial. So to me people sort of had forgotten about him & the Ernest Character.. And the movies was moving toward a different & younger audience. Kind of like "Robin Williams Movies" people got tired of him doing those sticky comedies. And once again people was ready to move on. So Ernest tried to hold his own. But the audience was changing. Ernest had his own Saturday Morning Show for a season or two & once did commercials after that for a period of time when he did "Ernest Rides Again" he didn't show up anywhere for a few years so people forgot who he was. Just didn't stand out anymore. But at the same time I think he was going through a divorce in Jim Varney's real life problems.
1. Ernest Scared Stupid
2. Ernest Goes to Camp
3. Ernest Saves Christmas
4. Ernest Goes to Jail
5. Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam
6. Ernest Rides Again
7. Slam Dunk Ernest
8. Ernest Goes to School
9. Ernest Goes to Africa
10. Ernest in the Army
Thanks for doing this. I would agree with the top 2, but I thought Camp was awful and I'd put it near the bottom, just before Africa. I've never seen Dr. Otto and had never heard of it before. Now I'll have to watch it :)
Jail, camp, stupid, Beverly hillbillies, xmass
you guys should check out "Billy and Bobby the Whacky Duo On Vacation". it's the silent old guy from the ernest movies reprising his role, and someone else re-casted as the fat guy. made in 2010.
You guys passed up on bogger lips for #1 aw man lol
Shut up
i just bought boxet on ebay.miss eatching ernest movies. but i never seen Ernest goes to Africa and in army and think few others too. Ernest saves christmas was very first Ernest movie i seen as on nearly every year on Christmas. Ernest goes to jail ismy favourite
I remember an Ernest TV show maybe on TNT did it actually exist or childhood fever dream?
Aaron P.D. yup
Looking up his IMDB I see that he was on *multiple* variety shows in the 70's, (Hee-Haw and the type of stuff my Grandparents would watch). Funny to think there's an entire era of Jim Varney material out there, some lost and some only on those big VHS sets of stuff like "Pink Lady and Jeff"
I thought the message of school was that smart people are mean😂
Scared Stupid is better than Jail and it wasnt even close
this is pretty, cool.
