The Chiodo Bros really deserve a lot of credit for both how horrifying and how strangely funny the trolls are; I've worked for their studio a few times and they put a LOT of work and creativity into everything they do. Definitely a perfect choice for this movie (...and damn it, Trantor is still scary!).

Ernest was always a favorite of mine, and I was in my late 30s at the time. His humor may not appeal to everyone, but his goofiness was a great bridge between children's and grownup entertainment. I did an Ernest P. Worrell outfit and imitation for Halloween in the early 90s. What great fun! Long live Ernest and Jim Varney.

Excellent work as usual, and tip o’ the hat (TotH) to you for keeping the Ernest flame burning. Would love to hear you go “niche within niche” and dissect the post-Touchstone Ernest catalogue. Personally, for that crown, it’s a dead heat between Ernest Rides Again and Slam Dunk Ernest.

I've always loved this movie when I was growing up. I talked to my friends about it and they've never watched it before. It is such a hidden gem. It's so silly and fun to watch. The troll used to scare the crap out of me, and I hid under my blanket whenever it showed up, haha. The most memorable scene in the movie was the water guns! That was such a badass moment for me as a child.

I loved Ernest Scared Stupid. I remember sitting on my best friend’s living room floor, watching it for the first time at 7 years old clutching a couch cushion. It is in a bit of a weird space. It is almost too scary to be a kids movie but it is way to campy and childish to be an actual scary movie, it straddles the line like no other movie of the era.

I was already a bit older when this came out, but having liked earlier Ernest movies as a younger kid, I still fell in love with this film. It was one of those movies that I could just play in the background for comfort during homework and rewatch endlessly. It was part of my massive VHS collection which I stupidly (in hindsight) gave away back in the early 2000's. I haven't watched this in nearly 20 years now and had I known that it would be so expensive to purchase in the future, I probably would have held onto my VHS copy, which at the time I recall having purchased used when my local video store was shuttering for like $2. Any kid who wasn't alive in the late 80's and early 90's really missed out on, what I think, was probably the greatest time to be young that the human race ever has or will see, and just seeing this video takes me right back. To this day whenever I see a Bulova watch ads, I think of Bulgaria and then hear Ernst saying "Authentic Bulgarian Miak" in my head lol.

The passing of a pet is a special type of pain, because the word "pet" dramatically undersells their true meaning to us. I am tearing up as I type this, and my heart genuinely goes out to you. Thanks for covering this movie. I love it with all my heart. This man was such a huge part of my childhood and I was deeply saddened later in life when I learned how little work he got outside of the Ernest films. I never realized how much effort he continued put in despite how much the movies declined in quality after Rides Again. This movie is especially near and dear to me. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday and this movie was largely responsible for that. I was five when the movie came out, so Trantor scared the hell out of me, too. And yeah, Rimshot always had R2-D2 levels of scene-stealing ability. He was always wonderful.

I am 21 but watched this at a young age whilst in daycare on VHS. I basically grew up in there (before and after elementary school) for the first decade of my life. This movie is nostalgic for me. I can remember how bizarre, entertaining, and unsettling it was. Looking back it's mazing how different life was before our innocence gets compromised. Thank you for making this video, it gives me an opportunity to see the scenes again. Also worth mentioning my appreciation for the skill, time taken to edit, and effort, that is present and noticeable.
