This is and has been the ONLY song my special needs daughter will fall asleep to. For almost 4 years I have rocked my daughter to sleep to this song, and myslef sometimes. I wish the artist would get my message to know what a great impact this song has made on my daughter and my family. Thank you and I don't know you, but who ever wrote this song thank you and to Muse I have love you since I was a teenager in early 2000's . Glad you made it big time. You deserve it
this is one of those rare, hard to come by songs. The kind that are so violently emotional that even the strongest of wills bends before it. Sometimes you get in those moods where you feel like crying would be a good idea, you know to vent and stuff, but cant actually manage to do it yourself... this is one of the songs that can help with that yaknow...
Like i dont have a particularly difficult life, and generally im pretty happy and content. But your body still needs to cry every once in a while, so you watch sad movies and listen to sad songs, this is one of the songs that i would turn to first for that.
Black with envy and eyeing eyes... I deprived my soul with pride Fallen for a victims lies... I sowed thy seed of vanity..... Swam the currents of the despair... I've listened to this track more times than I care to remember-it always makes me cry because it made sense when I was in my 40's and makes even more sense in my 60's. I've already chosen this for my passing as it says so much in such a few words. Remarkable songwriting and an absolutely awesome band.
@@happytweak4 They've aged better than other popular bands from the 90s/2000s imo. I'm not a big fan of their newer "change" in music compared to this. But they it still sound great compared to what other artists are putting out today
Not only this song but the whole album is really empowering and healing, there’s no doubt that i love Muse with all my heart, it has helped me through a lot.
I love Matt so much for creating this, he really changed my life from the moment i first listened to a muse song (time is running out). For anyone who wants to create music these days, please read about Matt's inspiration from russian classical music. The way he used it in his songs, including this one, is a life lesson.
These lyrics hit hard. I'm turning 18 in 2 months. And i always acted like an adult when i was little. And now i'm becoming more like a child trapped in adult's body. My parents always said please be a child when you are still a child. I wanted to grow up too fast. How wrong was I am. I thought childhood is very long. No, It was way too short, and I wasted that.
Another song that sorta expresses that feeling for me is "Wake up" by Arcade fire. IMO there's nothing wrong with keeping some part of childhood in your adult life. Everyone is a kid in some way. We don't just throw things away just because they're deemed childish. We all have wonder, excitement, etc. Some things that are unintentionally lost and yearned for again are happiness, blissful ignorance, and the world feeling larger.
I mean, I am 35 years old and I think its important to keep that child spirit that dwells inside of us. Age is just a number and doesn't determine who we are, never forget that.
I used to listen to this song alone at night while I walked home from where ever I was during my bad moods. I didn't always care about my safety, but I always found myself home without a scratch. When I listened to this while trying to sleep it wasn't about getting to sleep but feeling like I needed something more than just sleep. I love this song a lot, even if it makes me depressed sometimes.
I viewed the song as 2 different reasons to why people won't attemt to achieve their dreams. 1: their too old and 2: their to young But now that I've read your thoughts, I can agree with your opinion also. I like Muse because people can interperate the lyrics in the way they see fit and that they can relate it to their life. Great song! :)
This song washes me over with a giant wave of grief, loss, and sadness. My chest gets heavy and it gets harder to breathe as my ears are on the verge of tearing up. Music is so powerful.
Was shown a musical analysis video for AP Music Theory focused on augmented sixth chords and this song was in the video and I downloaded this song and endlessly and never really explored muse until 2 years ago and I am so amazed...
I had a dream years ago where there was essentially an apocalyptic event, and my view was panning outside of a high tide apartment moving through the widows and seeing flashes of each room and how everyone is reacting to it. Like a couple holding each other crying. A guy chugging a bottle of whiskey. Two guys playing Russian roulette. A chick having a mental breakdown with a bottle of pills beside her. All while this song is playing in the background. Worst nightmare I have ever had, but it was almost beautiful how the dream and music tied together.
Whats better is when you listen to Starlight on full blast through headphones, on the quiet bit you can hear the bass line crackling in the background. Now THAT is orgasmic!
I heard this song for the first time a few days after a painful breakup... Two years ago, this fantastic band gave me a very sweet mourning. :') I love Muse!
