Can't understand why some Muse fans don't like Drones. It's one of my favourite albums of theirs and has some killer tracks

i like Drones, way better than Simulation Theory. and The Handler is my fave from the album.

As someone who also loves Drones, I think the argument is that it’s far too paranoid, which is off-putting to many folks. The thing is, their musicianship is still fantastic and some of their lyrics are still awesome. It’s a damn good album, even if slightly problematic.

Me, over here! I love this song, but Drones is the album I like the least.

Same problem with most of their albums post BHaR. Lyrics so cheesy my doctor was worried about my cholesterol levels. Just read the lyrics to defector and try and convince me a 16 year old fresh off of a youtube documentary binge couldn't write that.
Usually every new album produces a gem or two, if we're lucky, 3. The Handler was definitely one of those.

@@noblesavage8964 since I made those comments , I've had time to fully digest the album and it's not great but okay. Some of the lyrics are definitely cheesy and for me Simulation Theory is a better album.

I don't see them as a BAND! They are completely on a different level when it comes to extreme and insane talent that NO ONE EVER can duplicate their sound or LIVE SHOWS! 🎶
They're musical geniuses, they don't play the same 3 chord song everyone else plays, they're NOT fake, they're funnier than hell (women love men with humour), European-I just found out I'm 25.3 % Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and 23 % Scandinavian-and I always asked my parents If there was Irish in the family-they said NO! So, I took a DNA test and there was IRISH! 😳
Maybe that's WHY I was attracted to The Cure, MUSE, Florence and the machine, etc. And, I've played in a couple 3 piece bands-it's fucking hard to sound fuller with 3 people, yet MUSE-THEIR TALENT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD! 🌎
I need to move to Europe now. Americans don't even know who MUSE IS? 😳

    "The Handler"
    You (you, you)
    Were my oppressor
    And I (I, I)
I have been programmed to obey
    And now (now, now)
    You are my handler
    And I (I, I)
    I will execute your demands
    Leave me alone
    I must disassociate from you
    Behold (hold, hold)
    My trance formation
    And you (you, you)
Are empowered to do as you please
    My mind (mind, mind)
    Was lost in translation
    And my heart (heart, heart)
Has become a cold and impassive machine
    Leave me alone
    I must disassociate from you
I won't let you control my feelings anymore
And I will no longer do as I am told
And I am no longer afraid to walk alone
    Let me go
    Let me be
    I'm escaping from your grip
You will never own me again

    [Verse 1: Matt Bellamy]
    You were my oppressor
And I, I have been programmed to obey
But now you are my handler
And I, I will execute your demands
    [Chorus]
    Leave me alone
    I must disassociate from you
    [Verse 2]
    Behold my transformation
And you are empowered to do as you please
My mind was lost in translation
And my heart has become a cold and impassive machine
    [Chorus]
    Leave me alone
    I must disassociate from you
    [Outro]
I won't let you control my feelings anymore
And I will no longer do as I am told
And I am no longer afraid to walk alone
    Let me go
    Let me be
    I am escaping

For anyone who has ever been seriously abused by spouse or parents, listening to this song gives chills. Its message gives you power to overcome. "you will never own me again". It’s emotional to release decades of innocence, vulnerability, stress, depression, anger, loss, resentment and sadness. and lastly, releasing the infinite neediness and unfathomable love for the abuser from your heart. End of codependency and victimhood, seeing the real truth, let the idea of self shatters and rebuilds. Handler’s messge is spot on for victims of emotional abuse. I always enjoyed it in my healing process. So much respect for muse for the vicseral lyrics and weight put into each words

I saw them a second about a year later for just a more Muse non tour specific show, and finally a third time last spring for Simulation Theory, which was incredible. I have done that with every song I have fallen in love with my whole life and my kids are astonished how I know the lyrics to so many 60's, 70's, 80, 90's and into the 21st century hard rock songs. I am a pretty awesome mom! My kids grew up hearing it all! My eldest son became an incredible musician because of hearing everything I grew up on. Then my boys hooked me up with a lot of 90's and 2000 to current bands. We all love Muse! I shared this with them and they had never heard this either and love it. Only 7 years late! 😂

@@journeygirl4ever You did a great thing by bringing them up to good music.
Just be careful - not all bands have a *positive* message in their songs, but really dark ones.
Music wokrs on the subconsciousness like nothing else can and one should really be careful of what he or she listens to.
      Cheers!

huh... where did all the "New Muse" haters go?...
Edit: Wow. I did not expect this comment to be so controversial. I was honestly just poking fun. I suppose i'll weigh in a little.
My humble opinion: Muse has done different styles throughout the years. What I like so much about them is that they don't just make songs to please people; they make what they want to make and they do it well. Their newer styles probably don't please the older fans who only liked it for the 90's style alt rock. I'll admit I didn't like the last couple of albums as much as the older ones, but I still enjoyed the hell out of them because I like Muse and what they stand for. I *am* glad to see Muse return to their roots a little, but they will never be the same band they were in the 90's (which is a very good thing, i.e. Nickelback). Stagnant bands are the worst, and Muse is anything but stagnant. THAT is why I say they are still one of the best bands of our time.

It's an Ebow, which when put up against a string sort of emulates the bow on a violin. Add the tapping, and you get the super clean notes. I can see where you didn't thing it was a guitar. To be honest I thought it was a bass part lol XD

The lyrics and images in this are the clearest representation of the MK Ultra/Mind Control I've ever seen or heard in music. There are hints of it everywhere, almost ubiquitous in fact, but this is so overt. It's unusual. I wonder if Muse are speaking from their own experiences or referring to others in this industry that have suffered under this kind of controller/handler and subject relationship.

    • @packercat17
      @packercat17 8 років тому +27

+Christopher Johnson They've talked about the narrative of the album, which is about a person being controlled by the military/government, but you can draw comparisons into any part of your life. I prefer to think of it as being about mental illness

    • @ProjectVRD
      @ProjectVRD 8 років тому +12

It's not quite MK Uktra mate, the level of control is the relationship between a soldier and his government. This song is midway into the album where the soldier cuts ties with military. The song that follows this one is where he is AWOL and rejects the governments legitimacy completely.

    • @cmjcj2ktn
      @cmjcj2ktn 8 років тому +56

Packercat17 ProjectVRD MKUltra mind control techniques and practices are derived from the CIA (and military) which has been heavily infiltrated by the occult over the years with an emphasis on luciferian doctrine. Occult practices luciferian doctrine often feature themes and messages that are duality-based. There is a light "accessible" meaning which most of the public perceives, but there is also a dark esoteric meaning. Just google Michael Aquino. This light/dark theme permeates most modern music, almost all songs seem accessible and "poppy" but there is almost always something hidden behind it, a "message for the masses" so to speak, but perceived by few. Another one I can think of off the top of my head is Chandelier by Sia (and her videos even feature sexualized children, another hallmark of the occult).

    • @rubired123
      @rubired123 8 років тому +35

+Christopher Johnson I agree, I've heard Muse since 2005 but this is the first time I ever heard this song and listened to the lyrics. Right away I thought about MK Ultra. Not only that, but the symbols they show in the video (Alice in Wonderland, the cage, etc).

Could it be possible that, with all his reading into this kind of thing, that Matt wrote this song based on what he's read? Rather than writing about his or other people's experiences, he may well simply have the same knowledge of these things as you do or any other online conspiracy theorist and used that to write the song. I'm sure he saw a lot of strange stuff when introduced to the Hollywood elite, but I still personally think he hasn't directly experienced it.
