caroline's death was the best modern horror genre death i have seen in a while, from the moment we realize its a loop and to the head smashing text messages *chef's kiss*
Caroline's death is one of the few examples of a jump scare in film that I actually think is done well. It's foreshadowed brilliantly and delivered through a very raw, practical-effects performance. Ted's death is also incredibly scary.
@Yumpus Grumpus yeah. He didn't fackin deserve it either. (None of em did, but especially him) He did nothing, and joined at the worst time. He was super happy and friendly about his puppet. I actually started laughing at that. Her zoom background was the best part besides the fact that Emma was somehow protected by her blanket the entire time

The most underrated thing about DeadMeat is the behind the scenes knowledge that they provide. I love the appreciation and recognition that they give the crew that bless us with these movies.
Seriously I walked into this movie ready for a meh experience, given that the whole "screen-cap horror" genre hasn't had any genuinely great movies associated with it. Imagine the pleasant surprise when it happened to be such a relevant and enjoyable movie.
Unfriended was a big(ish) budget horror film, while Host was an indie horror film. I felt both were very well done in their own right, especially with Unfriended: Dark Web with improving some elements the fell short I the first movie. They both knew what they wanted to do and that's admirable

I decided to watch the movie before the kill count for this one, and don't regret it at all. I did not expect to be as scared by this movie as I was, but holy crap. These people did an AMAZING job with what they had to work with, like, this movie scared me more (and more often) in 56 minutes than plenty of other horror flicks have in twice that long. I kinda want to rewatch it in a dark room on my laptop using just my headphones to see if that sort of immersion makes it any scarier. Last two times I paused the kill count to watch the movie were Ready Or Not and Better Watch Out, and both times I was very surprised by how much I ended up liking the movie. I really ought to make a habit out of this, it really enhances the experience
@@yeet2787 Yeah no thanks. I'm not interested in seeing someone get all their skin removed. Besides, I've already seen a bunch of reviews for it, it wouldn't be new to me
So glad when people watch the movie first. I get that the genre isn't for everyone but you can never experience a spook for the first time again! The home setting works so well just now too, I think it's why that horror short/trailer with Animal Crossing in it was so effective too.
Caroline's death reminds me of that one make-up video where the girl was doing a makeup tutorial then all of the sudden she gets this blank stare and repeatedly slams her forehead into the desk, getting more and more bloody as she does so.
I find it odd that no one had the idea of praying or invoking the Lord. You'd think that with crucifixes and other religious stuff in other films (or the 2 priests in The Exorcist) someone would have had the idea. But besides that, it bothers me that they were playing so lightheartedly with something as serious as spirits. You never know what you're dealing with in these cases, and the outcome can be very dangerous, as shown in the film.
@@ХристоМартунковграфЛозенски I can earnestly say that if this were my friends we genuinely would not turn to religion or crucifixes just because they’re used in movies.
Five years from now people would pan the movie for being “unrealistic” if she didn’t adhere to the mask standards in the movie. That’s what I gathered anyway
The attic shot was so good. The slow pan with the barely visible legs that you could easily miss, and then the pan back. The tension it builds by doing nothing is great, and the feeling of missing something makes it even better.
Caroline's death is one of those lowkey type of jump scares but hell, it was so disturbing and unsettling to be watched. I find it quite similar to the Unfriended movie I've watched before. The one where that guy was staring at a camera under and all of a sudden, his hands were already in the blender. Both were really great 👏👏👌
@@disillusioned6155 I can empathize with her considering she was just doing a prank, she didn't mean for it to go bad, and in the end she risked her life to save a friend. Was it shitty to do that during a séance that was meant to be serious? Yeah but she wasn't a bad person
@@floridafinnley right? She was flawed but so are all of us. She was a relatable friend who didn’t “deserve” to die. I feel like the chemistry of the actress’s really did the movie a service in this aspect.
Why does UA-cam have an issue with the word Covid? I'm sorry I'm so lost....it's kind of a thing that's going on🤦♂️ whatever, we still here for ya James 🤣❤
I’m pretty sure Caroline’s death is a reference to a video called girl goes phyco during makeup tutorial which went viral a while back. The video was a part of a ARG/student film project called the15experience. Also the fact that you got the actual cast from the movie for the to the numbers bit is amazing
@@gianna7719 A girl is doing a basic makeup tutorial for a youtube video and while she’s talking, these weird images come up on the screen like of a social media site and a dark, empty room, but she keeps talking like nothing is wrong. Then suddenly her expression goes blank like she’s seeing something, and she starts violently bashing her own face into the table like Caroline did in the movie, but it’s worse because there’s no glitches or music to cover it up. Scared the crap out of me as a kid.
The suspense and scares in this movie are masterful. Might be my favorite horror movie from 2020, just because it's so unique. So happy James covered it!
yooo the hanging body in the attic is the best kind of scare imo. Right in your face, but at the same time subtle in that the audio track doesn't slap the scare unnecessarily. Love stuff like that.
"Host"(2020) is an excellent supernatural horror movie! The suspense and the horror rise gradually until the final scene which is very scary! This is a well made and some moments very creepy movie!
I watched Host before this video and I am SO glad I did. It was just as suspenseful as I'd heard. And it was REALLY cool to know about all the behind-the-scenes info. Also, though other people have already stated it, the "Let's Get to the Numbers" bit is easily among your best.
Okay but learning all the safety measures and distancing they did for this movie makes me be impressed and amazed, a new light to this movie. Really impressed by what the production and cast managed to do with the restrictions in place at the time!
Started watching this video without having seen / heard of Host, paused halfway to go watch it. That was really well done, and genuinely nerve-wracking. Gonna watch the rest of the video now to decompress.
@@joshg2800 No, he wouldn't The girls died since they were there when they actually did the big ol seance and did the important parts, plus the mask was made with teddy absent.
I expect at least one technologically inept friend joke in the movie. "Emma, can you hear us?" "......." "Emma, I think your laptop is muted." "......." "Emma, unmute your laptop!" ".....-ted. I think you guys are muted. Alright, I'm just gonna leave and re-..." 'Emma has left the call'
The actual demon design when it's covering its mouth was brilliant. Makes my heart skip a beat even when I know it's coming. So simple, yet so terrifying. I think the messed up mouth takes away from it a bit. Makes it look less realistic in my opinion, but it's still a good design
I'm so creeped out by the fact that I've watched this film many times and never noticed Radina's boyfriend floating in the background when she goes to use the bathroom... Holy crap!
Wasn't there a game or whatever it was called "Take this Lollipop" that tried that? it just had a distorted image creeping up behind you, it wasn't awesome lol
I really have to appreciate how Savage, Shepherd, and Cox managed to take something like a Zoom call and not only turn it into a full length film, but also a successful one at that and later get a deal with a bigger movie studio. Hats off to ya guys, your work and ambitions paid off.
This movie really, REALLY played well with the idea of isolation in lockdown. It’s not only being lonely, it’s being ALONE in a situation like this. Really well done.
I was waiting for James to come back on the meeting at the end of the episode, and just see everybody dead. Like that guy who burned to death in the movie
I once lived in the top floor of a duplex. This was basically a two story house that had been divided into two top and bottom units. We had access to the house's attic, which was only accessible through a drop board hatch and no ladder. There were three rooms up there, the room we crawled up into, a small area without a door that used to be a play room for children, and door with a rusted latch handle we couldn't open. I had so many nightmares about what could have been lurking behind that door. I eventually kicked it open, and it was a dark windowless room with nothing inside but a dead bird, but that didn't really make me feel any better. I was happy when we eventually moved out.
I know its a small thing, but thank you for the alert when flashing lights are about to appear. It's saved me from many migraines and not a lot of content creators have that concern for the audience. Many thanks
@@bzuku9554 Well, idk about rare. It's about 1600 a month after tax and national insureance payments and contribution to company pension. Let's say rent is 700. That's 900. Let's say they have Netflix, Spotify premium, and contract on their phone, that leaves let's call it 830. Travelling to and from work is 200 for the month with an oyster card leaves over 600. If you're on your own food shop is about 45 for a week let's call it 50 because that is easier to math that's around 200. Leaves around 400. Which is about 4 drinks in London (JK, but the cost of drinks is ridiculous down there). Because we pay national insurance on our salary that goes to paying for our national health service. Been watching it since Friday the 13th kill counts
This movie is basically a better version of unfriended set during the covid pandemic. Unlike unfriended the jump scares were scary
Seriously I walked into this movie ready for a meh experience, given that the whole "screen-cap horror" genre hasn't had any genuinely great movies associated with it. Imagine the pleasant surprise when it happened to be such a relevant and enjoyable movie.
And unless James edited it out, there was no annoying music/sound effect to tell you to be scared with a violin playing in the background.
I still think that Unfriended is better, but this movie did pretty great with the deaths, and special-effects.
@@FormaAlert And the only good screen-cap movie I've seen was Searching, that film was intense and tugged at my heartstrings quite a few times
Unfriended was a big(ish) budget horror film, while Host was an indie horror film. I felt both were very well done in their own right, especially with Unfriended: Dark Web with improving some elements the fell short I the first movie. They both knew what they wanted to do and that's admirable
Dude the zoom meeting cameo was literally amazing
It's so cool how people can come together online and produce a fricken movie without ever meeting in person. So creative.
It really shows the lengths of creativeness a crew can go to so they can create a movie, show, or content in general.

The only unrealistic thing about this movie is the fact that she puts on a mask before going outside while being HUNTED by a DEMON 😂

I’m beginning to think the attic has become the new basement in scary movies.
Yeah because more houses have Attics than basements, so making people scarrd of attics makes more sense i guess XD
British houses don't tend to have basements, so that might have something to do with it.
