2024 NHL Draft Primer: Pittsburgh Penguins

The #PittsburghPenguins hold the 44th and 46th overall pick in the 2024 #NHLEntryDraft, giving the team the opportunity to add two decent players to a relatively shallow prospect pool. A look at some players projected to be available after aggregating draft rankings from 16 different sources:
• Teddy Stiga put up big point totals with the U.S. Nation Team Development Program-including 38 points in 27 USHL games-and looks on track to potentially develop into a consistent scorer in the future.
• A physical blueliner with the ability to drive offense, Stian Solberg impressed with Norway at the 2024 IIHF World Championship and brings a different element to the lineup as a potentially high-impact player.
• Tanner Howe led the Reinga Pats with 77 points and 77 penalty minutes in 68 games last season, looking like a player capable of thriving in multiple roles.
• A 6’7” center headed for Boston College after a dominant season at the U18 AAA level in Canada with 61 goals and 127 points in 56 games, Dean Letourneau comes with a ton of potential and a ton of question marks.
• Matvei Gridin led the USHL in scoring with 83 points in 60 games last season and looks to be a safe pick in the second round after showing good development at all levels.
• A big, mobile, right-handed defenseman, Harrison Brunicke managed 21 points in 49 games with the Kamloops Blazers last season but looks to be trending toward more of a shutdown role.
• Justin Poitier led the entire QMJHL with 51 goals last season, but at 5’8” comes with some risks and likely fits better in a deeper prospect pool.
• Leo Sahlin Wallenius needs time to continue to develop but managed a point-per-game average in the top junior league in Sweden last season.
• Veeti Vaisanen looked capable in the Finnish Liiga last season and seems like a safe pick in the second round.
