I couldn't agree more. Those who advocate for the rape and genocide of innocent civilians are monsters, whether they be Nazis who were responsible for the murder of six million Jews or Russian soldiers who were responsible for the rape and murder of numerous innocent German citizens. Justice was served at the Nuremberg trials, but the atrocities committed against German citizens who had no personal involvement in the holocaust were nothing but barbarism.

Lots of comments saying that they lack sympathy for the German population. It is true that the Germans committed despicable atrocities on populations they occupied, especially on Slavic nations. Its also true that the Soviets committed terrible atrocities as reprisals. Listening to first hand accounts of Soviet soldiers really shows how brutal and disgusting these reprisals could be. "Revenge" is an excuse used by Russian soldiers. Bullshit, they raped even the women of cities occupied by Germany. They do not have distinction. It's not for revenge, it's for their raging hormones and being drunk of power play by using women as an outlet. And before anyone could say about Americans, no, the US army leadership tried as much as they could to prevent their soldiers from raping women in liberated cities. The most common tactic is showing care to local women, giving them food and warmth, with physical intimacy within the sequence, before choosing whether to leave them or stay. But with the Russians, it is straight up forced, in short, rape.

I will have to re-watch the rape(s), hunger, violence, destruction of her home, rejection by her husband and loss of her only remaining potential for love and companionship in order to determine whether sadness is a reasonable response to this film.

The idea that one night all of a sudden the Russians were outside of Berlin is super unrealistic to me. They had known in Berlin for months ahead of time that the Russians were in circling and coming in closer and closer. Young boys and old men were mobilized into militias, and the civilian population was mobilized to dig trenches and defenses all around Berlin for weeks in anticipation of the Russians arrival. Hitler forbid much of the civilian population from leaving and instituted “fortress cities” they were supposed to fight until death. Many civilians fled, and were massacred by SS units, and by the oncoming Russians. Civilian population that chose to stay in many cases did die and knew that that was gonna happen. The idea that she might’ve been spared by this because she was in the upper class is also far-fetched because specifically at that time a lot of high class collaborators and German military, we’re all eating bullets in anticipation of the Russians arrival. Winning the war was long ago out of reach, they all knew it..

Bad take on this. Humans need to evolve mentally already, not use the "there will always be wars because it's in human nature ' excuse. Enough of this already. Wars must be avoided in the future altogether. It's embarrassing for something like this to still be happening. Humans need to do better. Still starting wars like humans did thousands of years ago? Pathetic, really. Humanity should have been too civilized for that already.
