Hi Andrew. Have you done a review of a standard 5 Door MK7 Golf GTI? I have had a look through your videos and can't see one. I'd love to see your thoughts on potentially the best all-round car money can buy. A car that can do nearly everything, not too expensive to buy, practical, comfortable, fast when you want it, realistic running costs, can be surprisingly economical too. My step-son has just bought a 66 plate Golf GTI 5 door and we are both very impressed and pleasantly surprised at everything it is capable of. Another quality, informative video 👍
Hi, do you mean the non-performance model GTI? Don't get me wrong it's a great car but the performance model for £995 extra when new was significantly better value for a keen driver. I was reading a review of the 230 PS Mk7.5 GTI and the test set the brakes on fire. These can be upgraded but the single biggest benefit is the VAQ front differential. I'd be miffed knowing the performance model had these two upgrades and more power as well (245 PS). However if the price is right for the base GTI as it was for many around year ago with silly cheap finance deals then you can't go wrong although it now vanished from the range so a moot point. On the used market I bet the gap is more than the original £995!
volkswizard I’ve had a base Mk7 and a fully kitted Mk7 Performance. The base felt like a slightly better sorted Mk6. The diff and brakes are what make the Mk7 so impressive over the previous gen. *BUT* for most people most of the time, a base Mk7 will be more than enough car.

No chance! Nice little car but to me it's only worth abouth £35k brand new. Well overpriced. However, once the depreciation has hit a few times then it might be worth a look.
How flexible was the chassis? I took my tts in for a haldex pump fix and had a a3 2.0t convertable as a courtesy car - man that thing flexed like hell. I like the sound of the engine, but there's no way i'd spend that sort of money on a golf in drag with a nice engine. How did they not manage to get 400 bhp out of it, using the PS is cheating !
The suspension and damping on the TTS is setup for german roads, which are a lot better than ours, a bigger profile tire and a 18 would do this car more handling favours than the awful magnetic ride !

A beautiful car, but that sum could have bought you nearly 5 new up! GTIs. Given the driving pleasure of said budget hatch, it is a context food for thought. :)
No, definitely not worth £68K which is one reason why I didn't order the new facelift! I am also not a huge fan of the new looks either. You pointed out in your video that Audi pre-registered a good many of the pre-facelift TTRS's and that is exactly what I have bought. Ok the car has one previous owner but it has just 3000 miles, is like new, was significantly cheaper and is stuffed with options including matrix Headlamps, OLED rears, 20 inch wheels, sports exhaust, dynamic suspension and much more! My car also has the OPTIONAL Audi smart phone interface for the apple car play, but it doesn't have the charging phone box. On the facelift the Phonebox (charger) is now Standard but the Smartphone interface is still optional so I guess that's why your phone wouldn't work.
Thanks man 👍 Driven up to around 7/10 they feel very similar but the Mk3 is a lot more enjoyable to drive as it doesn't fall apart when pushed hard. It's a lot more neutral and will discernibly drive from the rear in extreme situation which the old car would never do. It's an incredible car whose image is sadly marred by the dynamic ineptitude of the earlier cars, Mk1 in particular. I bet you the Mk3 RS would spank on track most of the funny dudes in their overtly masculine cars who continue to call it hairdressers cars, one day I hope to prove this correct 😁

Hey Gustavo, there is some footage with the roof down in the original collection from Scotland video if you want to see for yourself (link description). Up to 40 mph it's OK but it does get blustery above that and I'd say calls and conversation may prove tricky. Unfortunately the TT has never been brilliant even with a wind deflector deployed.

21:47 This is NOT a 4WD car! It is frontwheel drive most of the time and sometimes powers the rear wheels, too. But never more power to the rear than to the front. Big difference! It's bad cause it adds weight and doesn't add dynamic pleasure. I caught you there, Vdubb dealer ;)
Thanks for commenting. Regardless of how much rear drive bias this car has, it is sufficiently 4 wheel drive to have a quattro badge on the dash and to keep moving when road conditions are poor which will send most sports cars through the nearest hedge. However you seem to be quoting out of date facts about the Haldex all wheel drive system. Yes, in early versions it was largely front wheel drive but this gen 5 version can push as much as 100% of torque rearwards. It's also linked to the driving modes and in dynamic it's more rear biased than other modes. I've had more oversteer with these Audis than any other cars in all my 25 years driving. No you can't drift for long but rather than understeer, these cars send torque rearwards which can require a degree of opposite lock to correct. You can see this in the RS3 here ua-cam.com/video/S_5PmVI7OTs/v-deo.html For average to good drivers this really is the best of both worlds.
volkswizard Hi Andrew quick question I’m not sure if you’d know but can the new WLTP Golf R do the same with the power considering it also has the haldex AWD system or is it different on that car?
@@LeeDaG09 That's a good question. I haven't researched this but gut feeling is that VW will have tuned their Haldex software to suit the expectations of the brand. So even though the hardware is the same, it won't be as rear biased. If you go into the Individual driving mode screen on the Golf, can you adjust the setting for the rear diff? I don't think you can but it's there on the Audi. In Dynamic mode it's more rear biased, I don't recall that being a thing with the Golf's Race mode. Having said that it doesn't have such a heavy engine up front which means it's less prone to understeer. I think Audi are using the additional rear bias to target understeer as, as soon as you can feel it coming on, the rear drive kicks in, it's nuts!

@@garybampkin2448 slower you mean.
Show off.😊
Not worth 68k its an audi
Would rather buy an RS3 which is ultimately the same car and a lot cheaper and more practical
The fact a sensible looking hatch can chase supercars has a big appeal to me and even more so it saloon form.
This review quotes 100% to the rear as being possible : www.motortrend.com/cars/audi/tt/2018/2018-audi-tt-rs-first-drive-review/
volkswizard Hi Andrew quick question I’m not sure if you’d know but can the new WLTP Golf R do the same with the power considering it also has the haldex AWD system or is it different on that car?
What it does add is a tonne of grip that smashes any other car in damp conditions.
Is it worth £68400,... erm,....... no it f**king isn’t! It doesn’t even have CarPlay!!!!!! You-are-joking!!!!!!!! Audi are VERY funny.
P.S the traffic info CANNOT be switched off despite switching off in settings, oh, and, rear "vents" do NOTHING and no pop’s and crackles between gear changes.
Nice vid though.
.
Thanks James. I am pretty sure this car was an oddity regarding CarPlay as I am 99% sure it should have it as standard. These press cars get specced by Audi in Germany and aren't always to UK spec. Joe Achilles had a yellow SQ2 UK press car and you can't get one in the UK
volkswizard I think it’s massively over priced especially given that Audi’s build quality isn’t exactly getting better these days.
In a word N0.
No.
That's allot of money... Especially since your still going to get beat by a cheaper model 3 performance.
Beaten round a track by a Tesla? I think not 🤣
@@volkswizard probably not on the track, just in everything else :p. A Performance 3 on track mode is closer to BMW M3 on the track, it might surprise you.
£70k for a 5 pot golf.

45-50k now. Amazing 5 pot
