2017 TT RS Roadster - An R8 in TT Clothing !

- Опубліковано 18 тра 2017
- The new Audi TT RS should be classified as a Guided Weapon...perhaps the best all round car for the money I have driven. It is THAT good ! I am a huge TT fan and it has been worth the wait to get behind the wheel of Audis latest pocket rocket.
Thanks to Harwoods Group and Portsmouth Audi for the opportunity to drive this car. I just need to buy one now !

I received my TTRS Roadster in May 22, it definitely was not amazing performance initially...but recently from approx 8000km on clock ...it suddenly became a beast...huge torque increase from low low revs especially in top gears..., just did 1000km roadtrip from Cape Town to Knysna in SA, what a pleasure to experience the acceleration and roadholding, but...be warned..overtaking under acceleration mostly induces severe torque steer depending on road surface conditions,..as we have in South Africa..
Brakes are super good, thanks for your test as this helped me in deciding to buy mine..what a car..
No understeer ..
I love my TTS coupe that I have owned for the last 2 years but last weekend I test drove the TTRS. You're Video truly summed up how I felt during and at the end of the test drive.
Also what is often overlooked in reviews is that the coupe version is the only true practical mini GT in the true sense of the words (Grand Tourer) on the market. We drive across Europe a lot and want a small car that has stylish sports car looks, is powerful and can carry at least 3 suitcases. I know the look is subjective but we cannot find another car that fits that brief.
TTRS arrives end of Jan
Oh you lucky thing...just a great car !
Excellent. I love your enthusiasm.
Thank you!
Great review, you can feel the sincerity in your voice, that’s missing from so many of the UA-cam car channels.
That review makes me want to buy one!
Thanks for the great feedback. I did really love this car ;-)
Great review with finally a journalist not asking to get in or out of corner or roundabout side way and with set of tires lasting a couple of week. Well done
Another great review! New camera? It was absolutely perfect HD looking video. Keep up the great work.
Hi Kevin. Same camera gear, Sony Action Cams shooting in 1080p 60fps. I think its the light that helps :-)
Fantastic review as always and your right the TT sounds superb and a great car. Cannot wait for the RS3 review
+Manj Bains Cheers Manj, neither can I 😜👍
What a car. The look on your face said it all. Thx. Great fun your review......
I LOVED driving this car ! Glad you enjoyed the review :-)
I love five cylinder engines. Back in the eighties my brother had an Audi Coupe GT, it wasn't very fast but it sounded absolutely sublime. Enjoyed this video, thanks for making and sharing it.
Cheers tony
PS if you think that's fast accelerating get a go in a 911 turbo s with launch control, now that is real fast lol
I nearly bought an Audi GT many years ago ! I have driven a 911 Turbo S on track and on the road...what an awesome machine ! Here's my review...ua-cam.com/video/Vr0dqsFksWQ/v-deo.html
Another great review. Ive never been a fan of the TT but i'm sure dynamically its a fantastic machine.
+Nick Horton They are a bit Marmite Nick...but they are mighty fast 😂👍
Test driving one of these tomorrow. Can't wait.
And I bought it 😊
It always cracks me up the amount of people slating the understeer on this car. If you're one of those people, you're either....
1. Not old enough to drive and don't have a license but like pretending you do to be popular on social media.
2. You've never driven it but like reading comments from people in the No.1 category on social media and just like repeating what you've read to make it sound like you know what you're talking about.
3. You track cars and know how to push a car to the limit.
If you're in no.3, you're in the top 2-3% of genuine drivers (unlikely), if you're in the rest, you aren't skilled enough to even take this car remotely close to the speed it starts understeering on track and you definitely aren't going to manage to do it on the road.

I love my 2013 TTRS. With 455bhp the only thing it misses is the same engine bubble, pops n bangs. Love it to bits though! Good video though Pete!
455...wow that thing must fly !
@@PetrolPed You are more than welcome to do a review on it if you'd like too.
Here in Ontario, Canada I would be very poor if I had that car. 50 km/h over the posted speed limit is a $10,000 fine plus the car is impounded. If you receive that fine you also get a 6 point penalty for our 15 point licence. It's best to only drive this car as it should be driven on a track. Anyway, thanks for your great review.
Wow...I thought our speeding laws were bad !
Love your work Peter I would love a mk3 roadster but at the moment my 430 B.H.P Manual RS Still keeps that Audi grin on my face,,, Love your vidoes keep them going for us petrol heads lol
Will do Graham :-)
Awesome video Pete and the Audi TT rs is a dream car of my dads.
Could well be my next car ;-)
Brill video Peter. Love 5 cylinder growl. My favourite engine sound other than a V8 then a V6. Sounds very similar to my Fiat Coupe 20 valve turbo.
Cheers Mate...it did sound awesome :-)
First time watching, great review!
Thanks Will, welcome to the channel :-)
Great vid. I've got a 2016 tts in blue and love it and had 2013 tts in white (black edition) as well. Love the stronic box and awesome traction and grip. There are faster cars sure but not so many in premium brands unless you want a diesel 335 BMW or a hot hatchback or a used boxster. Considering used R8 next or new TTRS after watching your vid.
+Officer Poncherrello I've had a Mk1 225bhp Roadster and a 2009 TTS Roadster. Love them and the TTS was SO quick...this thing takes it to another level !
another great video. I'm down at Bedford tomorrow if your in need of some track time footage and a go in the Astra VXR. last minute I know!
Thanks for the offer. I would love to take you up on it but sadly have plans :-(
I was just advised to check my TT Rs wheel alignment as possible reason for the severe high speed acceleration overtaking torque steer issue..
Why didn't I think about that...
Mine is Fire engine red..makes quite a statement...head turner
Great video as always.
Thanks. I didn't get very long with the car so Im pleased at how it came out.
the sound, omg!
I know...very addictive !
Excellent review Peter. What a car ? Yes. Peter lost for words ? Lol.
Thanks for sharing, it's way out of my price range. Now, where did I put that lottery ticket ?
All the best mate.
Geof.
+geofo60 Geof Harris Gotta play the lottery Geof. It's what my Supercar dream rely on 😂👍
Very nice!
Ah What are you doing to me!!!!!
Looking for a TTS and your video persuades me to get a Boxster S!
Now I'm in love with the sound of that RS!!! 😂😂😂
Great Car Great Video! Come on National Lottery I need £55k 😁👍🏻
LOL...the is £98m on the Euro Millions this week !
Can't afford the TT, but what a beautiful place you live!
Me either, but yes we are very lucky and the fact it was a sunny day helped.
Great review. I think you did 0 - 60 in 3.5 seconds in the F Type SVR though.
Hi Mark. I sure did ! At the time I thought it felt faster. Didn't time it until I got home :-)
Great revue as always, unfortunately audi have no plans to produce any new ttrs models in the near future, they said it was something to do with meeting emission restrictions
This is the brand new one so that will probably last a good few years. Hopefully by then they will change their mind !
Yes that's right, it is only audi demonstrators that have been sold and nobody can order a new one. I tried to order one from my dealer and was told that Audi is not building any? Cheers
03:50
"But that engine... is just sat there in the back, growling at me".
Errrm... The engine's in the front.
Glad you pulled me up on that ;-) Most of the noise comes out the back, that's what I meant
I had just the TT in 2001 for a few years and loved it. Do you think the loss of the manual transmission makes a difference to enjoying the drive? I wish I had watched all your reviews before I ordered a car! I may have still got the Mini because I was set on a manual, hated the BMW grills and didn't want a super car.....but this one may have tempted me.
I am a big manual fan 😜👍
That’s the standard exhaust not the sport exhaust. Standard exhaust has a better tone than the sport exhaust which has a mid range louder sound but missing that refined burbling of the standard exhaust. Standard exhaust is plenty loud in dynamic. I drove both and prefer the standard exhaust.
Interesting. Thanks for the comparison :-)
Looks like you've found a replacement for the Mini ? 😉
Performance looks amazing. Nice colour as well.
Oh don't tempt me. One of the best all round cars for the money I have driven so far.
Awesome!
+Ricky Mills Cheers Ricky 👍
Hi Peter, When you start saying the TTRS is as good as or better than a Porsche from A to B that's one hell of a statement to make. In all honesty Audi RS Gmbh make GREAT cars as I has stated prior the Audi RS6 can spank expensive sports cars lets face it you and I both get it just how good Audi is and that can never be questioned in my opinion.
May be you should save up for a RS model expensive YES but smiles per mile would be off the chart. Kind Regards, Alan B
Hi Alan. It was a bold statement but for me it is. The 718 Boxster S is an awesome car and has some things the TT doesn't. The steering feel and balance is better, but this thing is amazing. I have always been a big fan of Audis thought :-)
I used to think so as well. But the build quality, robustness and depreciation like a lead brick makes them more exensive to own than a Porsche.
Problem with the Porsche is it sounds like a kitchen utensil. Not many people will part with cica 60K for that. Performance wise, TT wins as well. Granted, entry Porsches handle better, but I dont tend to power slide around the A40.
I love the flat six sound. Seriously hate the DSG fart sound though myself. Love the I5 sound as well.
This is the problem journalists have...
When ever you turn off the car, even in dynamic mode, the valves will close. You to get out dynamic and get back into in order to have the valves open under 3.5K
Unless the exhaust design has changed from my 2013 RS, there is only one valve - and it can easily be kept in loud mode with a simple stopcock placed in the vacuum actuating line - some have just zip-tied a kink in the line to same effect.
Funny the same guy who got me really interested in a Focus RS has also got me interested in a TT RS
That is good to hear. Glad to be of service ;-)
why I can't find this car in CarGurus?
wow u deserve more sub
p.s. u just earned a new sub
Thanks Tony...Welcome to Petrol Ped :-)
🏁 Nice love the blue.If you want to review a r8 spyder my friend has one let me know Peter👍👍🏁🏁 oh and you made 5k subs keep it up love your vids
Hi there. An R8 Spyder would be VERY cool :-)
Yep 5K subs and counting. I'll be taking this channel to the next level VERY soon. Stay tuned !
3:20 We're on the same page mate! When I see a drop-top sports car out on a sunny Sunday afternoon and the top is up, I feel the driver should lose their licence!
👊
Good review on what is by all accounts a very good car. 55K puts if directly against the Boxster S and I'm afraid the Porsche would get my money every day of the week.
I thought it might :-)
The 718S and this are very close...hard to choose !
What's the servicing costs on this car over 3 years?
Not sure to be honest, but I drive the deal to include servicing for the first 3 years. That's what I did when I bought my S4 !
Was that TT with a sports exhaust?
It had the Audi switchable exhaust and sounded awesome !
Does it feel a lot quicker than the tts?
One word...YES !
Petrol Ped Many thanks For the reply, I've got a tts coupe with a 6 speed manual which I find really quick but was thinking of a tt rs convertible so you're review has been very helpful and entertaining, keep up the good work mate.
One thing to note for all lovers of Hair, do not drive like a lunatic with the roof down or further back up the road you will find your hair ripped out in chunks. Okay for us Baldies.
You could mute it and still know the result by the smile on his face.
Yup...I tried to hide it be failed miserably !
Well earned Im sure....The TT RS is a lovely car but would you really drop £65K on one? You can get a lot of car for that kind of money. Even though its got the tech and the straight line speed, it doesn't have the kudos. Still that flat 5 sounds awesome.....
You could just buy a MkII TT RS for a lot less and still be blown away :-)
Next time put the wind screen up.
I know !
👍👍👍👍👍
You could not get more different cars in driving dynamics. Yet you compare them? No FWD car will ever handle and drive with the feel of a RWD.
This car is four wheel drive and regularly compared to the Boxster S. You are right, they both have a different feel and they both have things they are good at and things they are not so good at. As I have driven both I thought it a fair thing to compare them. Drive Tribe have just done a group test between the TTRS, 718 Cayman S and BMW M2 so I am in good company :-)
Not really four wheel drive. They are haldex. They are FWD with rear wheels getting partial torque only when front wheels have lost grip. I know Audi wants to sugest tat the TTRS and RS3 is the baby of the R8 - but that is misleading advertising. Baby R8 would be the S4/RS4 with real torsion quattro and RWD. Yes it is fair to compare them to their market competitors - what I meant was to compare to the R8 is really off.
Never really been a fan of the TT. Not even the RS, doesn't do it for me, but good review nonetheless!
I think you love them or hate them, but man are they fast !
