Here is a quote from Angelina (7y) from an interview with TV2 after her auditions NTG 2014 regarding her selection of Gloomy Sunday. "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on UA-cam before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was an incredibly sad song.
Thanks for sharing this. This is a great quote. "...a beautiful lady screaming at the sky with her eyes closed". That's very profound for such a young talent. It's interesting how she wanted to hear this song everyday. Many of Angelina's fans now listen to her everyday. For many days I'd listen to her Nobel Peace Prize Unchained Melody. They used it in her Las Vegas documentary. It's going to become only of her classic performances, right up there with BR.
Mum didn't want her to sing it because of the theme...Angelina rewrote some of the lyrics to appease her concerns....Original: "little white flowers could never awaken you - not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you" (very obviously pointed at suicide/death)...Angelina's lyric change: "little white flowers were never a waste on you - not where the black hole of sorrow has taken you" (very much more steered toward depression/sadness) Angelina has always made amendments to the lyrics of songs where the theme is not age appropriate for her in order to keep Sara happy...For a seven year old girl to take that upon herself is simply mind boggling
She was interviewed and she feels the emotion in her songs, especially this one. If you listen to her second performance (acapella) which is another Billie Holiday song, timing and pitch are perfect. Again a couple fumbles with lyrics but otherwise spot on. A couple of fans have put it to original music and wow!
There are a lot of reactors with amazed effusive comments, and rightly so. Angelina is a once in a lifetime prodigy. What I appreciate about Aaron’s insightful comments is that he is knowledgeable and honest. He manages to “pull back the layers” just a bit to give us some depth and context. For me, Aaron makes my journey with this artist all the more compelling. Keep up the good work!
A great and fascinating reaction indeed: her second song for NGT is one of her most amazing performances I think... I'm a Fool to Want You sung acapella - there is also a video on UA-cam of her singing put against the music and it is incredible how spot on she was... And and others have mentioned, her rendition of the same song for her album "It's Magic", when she was 11 or 12, is fantastic too - one her very best...
Angelina and her mother and Grandma made very conscious editorial desisions on her songs to make them more age appropriate. Angelina rewrote the lyrics to Amy Winehouse's Back in Black in the car on the way to the recording session to make the lyrics work better for a 10 year old. By the way, she sounds like Winehouse, and when she Covers Elvis' How Great Thou Art, she sings it in his key.
Thank you Aron. I love this audition I must have listened to this hundreds of times, she always gives me happy tears, she released any negativity surrounding this song and filled it with love , that's what she does with everything, She is a gift for the world when they need it most, Our beautiful AJ💜👣💎
Subscribed. Great performance at such a young age. You stated that you wanted "life changing" music. May I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. They have a worldwide following of very loyal fans (known as The One) They are unique. I will leave 2: BABYMETAL | Rondo of Nightmare (w/ Mischiefs of Metal Gods Intro) BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL)
Another wonderful insightful reaction, thank you. Almost always tear up at this performance, even after 100+ viewings - it was the beginning of her public career. She clearly is emulating Billie Holiday here ... but develops her own voice so fast thereafter, influenced by Billie and so many other giants of jazz....it's just astonishing.
Great reaction A-Aron 😊👍 I no need say much , only that ur facial expression's in the beginning said it all my friend. Now ur an Angel , and you no gonna believe what she does at next performance my friend 😉😋 have agood one , take care an stay safe btw i like ur analytic take on her performances, is an refreshing take on it , nice to see u try to put words on Angelina's❤ performances. many have tried ..and still have no idea how shew does it . Just expect the unexpected 😉😋
Ohhh - me Too. . . I was there too. 😉 I think everyone here in the comments that sees this message and went to Vegas should just quickly state that they went and where they are from. I will start that 2nd part off: 😇Jim St. Augustine, Florida, USA
I was there! I’m from Hawaii. I have been so captivated by her musical genius starting from when I first saw her on UA-cam that I started my own UA-cam channel devoted to spreading the word about her. Then in July 2022 I travelled halfway around the world to see her perform in Norway, and discovered that hearing her live was a whole other level. Then I saw her first headlining concert in the U.S. last year, and now Vegas! I look forward to decades more of seeing her perform!
I listend to Billie Holiday when I was in high school and my freshman year in college. I closed my eyes when I watched this video and could SWEAR I'd see "Lady Day" standing on that stage when I opened them. I also noticed that the judges were so blown away by what they just heard that they weren't quite ready to stand up after her performance. They were still processing their emotions! Her 2nd "performance" was during sort of an "elimination round" before the judges (no audience) where she sings another Billie Holiday song, "I'm a Fool to Want You" a cappella!
It's funny 😆you mention the Judge's reactions. Of course at the end of each performance, the Judges take a vote to see if they advance the contestant. If you look closely at a brief second of the video right after the performance, all 4 Judges were giving a Standing Ovation😁, so I am not sure 😉exactly how much the vote was really necessary🤪. Pretty Funny🤣. 😇Jim
If you missen too more song Angelina covers, than you sud know Angelina change some words of every cover she sings! And she her fans love that! 👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍❤❤❤🙏
Yes she grows very fast in depth and style. She has developed this from greats like Billy Holiday. Her Mother would not let her sing anything that outright spoke of suicideShe has a very specific wobbly vibrato learned from Billy. You have to do the other songs to see how in the same contest she improves greatly This was her very first performance On TV and in front of an audience so nerves were there ven though she gets very serious when time t is perform Wait til you get to Summertime her last winning performance
Thanks for the in depth reaction, you’ll find as you listen to more of her covers she routinely changes lyrics when they lean negative or not age appropriate. Thanks man
I was just going to repeat what you just said. Totally agree. We are being treated here for sure. This feels like real food after being weaned. A meaty reaction here. Love it.
A sad song, but she delivers happiness 😊 and we want always more diving deep into her music world 🌎 She said my music is bigger than me and inspired me to go on 🎉
A-Aron Appreciate your detailed and informative reactions. I see where you are going.... all I can say you will see and experience her incredible and exponential development through 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12....
The young judge Omer Batthi lived in Michael Jackson's house until his death and grew up with his children. His mother was The nanny of. Prince and there are rumors that she was Prince surrogate mother. In any case, Paris referred to Prince and Omer as her brothers because they grew up together. Since NGT he has been friends with AJ and her family. So he is one of the few people who personally knew the King of Pop and today the Queen of Jazz.
Great and careful reaction, thank you Aron. This was the first time I heard this little fairy sing, 10 years ago and I've been hooked ever since. In all these years by now I have listened to she thousands of times in hundreds of splendid interpretations and yet every time I see this first performance of hers at the age of 7, it makes me move again, like the first time, with that wonderful concentration of humility, simplicity, candor, intelligence, sympathy and talent. I love her wonderful sense of jazz musicianship from his very first performances. Regarding the lyrics, keep in mind that those talents have time limits for performances, usually within 2 minutes, so it is normal that (as she also did with Bohemian Rhapsody) the lyrics are cut, also the mother didn't want that she sang some words (it also will happens later in years with Amy Winehouse's songs) too strong for her age, so Angelina rearrange the lyrics. 💛🧡❤
Thank you, and I enjoyed your insightful and genuine comments. You are becoming a true angel! Please continue to generously spread the love and kindness that Angelina exemplifies by providing her equal priority support on your channel. Since most viewers do not go to your description on their own, I suggest providing links, not only to the artist's original video, but also their official channels. More importantly, verbally encourage viewers to use those links to like, share, and comment for the artist, and to do the same for you! Your encouragement will lead viewers to the artist's links as well as your valuable information. If you are able, it is also helpful to link to the artists' social media and streaming services such as Spotify. Each artist provides us so much joy, and reactors have a platform which can help boost UA-cam analytics and exposure for you and all featured artists. Thank you for doing your part to enable Angelina to attain her inspirational goal of spreading love and peace throughout the world. Peace and love.
ron Your consistent reinforcement of these points is most appreciated and applauded. One thing I'd implore reacters to urge their viewers to do is: "BUY ANGELINA'S MUSIC!!!"
Absolutely! I do include that they should provide links to the streaming media but adding that phrase would be very useful. Thanks for the input and hope you're doing well.
At 08:57 you can see her father, for the first time and never again! He wanted to stay out and he did!! You don't have to search anymore!!! Nice reaction!
I thought I’d add to the list of Angelina’s universal popularity. I’ve been following Angelina closely since 2017. I saw her concert in Portsmouth and was pissed that I had to miss Las Vegas (but blessed that many of my newfound friends brilliantly recorded Vegas). I’m from the edge of NY state, six miles from the Vermont border.
I've been a fan (Angel) since "I Put A Spell On You" came out, and this performance was the second one I saw. All of her NGT performances were outstanding but, the most emotional one, for me, was "I'm A Fool To Want You" (acapella) which was her second performance done during the elimination round. Hopefully, that will be your next stop. I'm really enjoying your analysis and comments.
Another great reaction and analysis. Certainly on these talent shows, the contestant has limited time. Skipping the second verse was proper, given its context. I agree, it is truly amazing how Angelina is able to adapt her voice, as it continually changed, as she grew older. Had to be instinctual for her to know what her voice was capable of at any given age. I suppose, her perfect ear would lead her to make vocal choices which work. Her next performance on NGT is an a cappella version of "I'm a Fool to Want You" which was written by Frank Sinatra in 1951 but Billie Holiday had her last hit with it in 1958. Be sure to use the video which is 2:32 in length.
Generally in those early years AJ would scour YT videos of her favourite artists and other versions of the songs thay sang. Those songs that captured her emotionally she would cover in her own special way. This is the innocence of a child not needing to know the dark history of some of her choices, just knowing they made her feel sad.Her genius had it's expression and her family protected her from going too deep.
After 5 yeas and a couple of thousand views I still get cooked up watching this. Thank you for the background history. I knew most of it but always love more insight.
Only 2k views? Imagine how many times we'll have listened to this in 20 years. My recent favorite on auto repeat is Unchained Melody from the Nobel Peace Prize tribute concert.
@@ClifftheBigRedDoggy We have to make certain that he reacts to the 'NOBEL STORY' video I created, so that he gets a fuller context - it is Vital, both for him and his audience. CONTEXT is everything for Angelina's NOBEL PEACE PRIZE TRIBUTE Performance of UNCHAINED MELODY. I don't expect that it will be any time soon that it is even on his radar, however, we must be ready to lay across the tracks ! 😇Jim
Thank you for your reaction to this epic gloomy sunday with angelina on stage, sooooo amazing...i follow angelina since this moment and now with 18 she is for sure a superstar, the best ever 👑♥️🌹💫
You are right no she did not know the complete meaning of the song. Did you notice how the final judge handled her answer so gently . He was very aware of her age and let it go at that.
Congratulations. Excellent analysis. Being Jazz people, you could see one of AJ's best rehearsals. In this rehearsal of "Fly Me To The Moon" for Quincy Jones' 80th birthday in 2018, Angelina Jordan was accompanied by an orchestra composed of approximately 70 musicians including string, wind and percussion sections. As you can see, it was done in one take. At no point does she seem nervous, she got all the applause. You can see it at: ua-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/v-deo.htmlsi=lFk3I02uqh8sVGUQ
Yeah, now to Angelina's second song on Norway's Got Talent, "I'm a fool to want you" in the style of Billie Holliday, a cappella. Then right away jump to her studio version at 12.
Thank you. No finishing all of NGT and then earlier ages like 9 and 10 before getting there. Will get there. You'll find out, I'm moving quickly. Did 4 videos today (1 of Angelina)
I find it interesting to go through her progression as a vocalist. I think you will be stunned at the leaps she makes from year to year as I have never seen anything like it. You will get to see how she handled her voice changing as she grew up. For her "sound errors" I like what some have said,"her imperfections are perfect" and another said she was a million shades of perfect. Two factors that make her seem almost perfect--she does make mistakes occasionally--is that she is a Jazz singer and she is at the least a generational talent so 1. she is real good at handling them 2. With Jazz she rarely sings a song the same every time 3. She sounds so good most of the time and one is so engaged that you never notice them. One last note---She sounds better sick then most singers do on their best day. What she did at the Asian Gala was stunning, esp. on "I Have Nothing".
This is unusual because you’re hearing Angelina faithfully channeling another singer. And of course, it’s her favorite-Billie Holiday. She develops so fast that you immediately begin to hear Angelina’s spin and style from then on. Her next audition song is another Billie standard (I’m a Fool to Want You), but Angelina sings it a cappella. How a child, a non-English speaker, gets the phrasing and cadence so perfect is startling, as is her ability to stay on pitch and in tune with no music. But her next two NGT songs show such incredible development. We get two songs that we know (Bang, Bang and Summertime), but now we’re getting Angelina giving us her versions with her lyrical interpretation, her riffs, her phrasing. I’m old, and I loved both the Cher and Nancy Sinatra versions of Bang, Bang, but eight year old Angelina’s cover is my favorite. You’ll see as you move on that Angelina expresses melancholy so genuinely and authentically. She is stunning.
@johnvasi I've got to take issue with your: "a non-English speaker". At age 7 Angelina's English was at least equal to, and perhaps even more advanced than, any American 7 year-old. And, of course, with no trace of accent.
@@103mrg yes, I keep writing this... but I am sure she grew up bilingual.... English is not really her second language but co-first language I think...
Thank you for yet another great reaction. 👣It is a well known fact that Angelina`s family is very conscious about not letting her sing lyrics that are all inappropriate for a young child to sing. Also for Angelina`s next performance, another BH cover, "I`m A Fool To Want You", she obviously skipped the word "devil" in that one, from the line; " - to share a kiss the devil has known". She (they) changed that. Later, as Angelina turned 10 and even at 12, the same goes for a couple of Amy Winehouse covers. In fact, Angelina mainly rewrote the song "Back to black," and also large parts of "Rehab". She has been writing her diary (or journal) at least since 6 yo, so she did quite well with her lyrics at 10 and 11/12 with those. She also recorded her first two own songs at 11, for the album "It`s Magic" (released in summer of 2018 as she was 12). BTW she also recorded a "new version of "I`m a Fool To Want You" for the album as well. Another great one to look forward to, that`s for sure 😊👍 Back to NGT now; - I think you will be amazed by her amount of development even from one performance to the next (4 songs) during those few months. Her is the link for her next one. It was performed in front of the judges only, besides all the other singing contestants. There was no comments at the time, as they should mainly after the full session, reduce the number of contestants for the quater-finals. Angelina will not dissapoint you in this one either. Billie Holiday`s "I`m A Fool o Want You" ua-cam.com/video/LXknLZDoRVQ/v-deo.html 👣 🤗
@@A-AronReacts Sounds like a Full Load on your end. Good lick with that. But we ANGELs cannot get enough - is a bit of an addiction, I guess ? ! 🙄😀😉 As for me, ANGELINA is my Job, at least until I end up having to get get a real one once again. Right now I LOVE MY JOB ! 😁 😇Jim
Congrats! You are one of very, very few to get it right this early in your trip with Angelina! Yes the blonde is her mother. the man holding her little sister (Juliette) is Gary Slattman, her father , and the older lady on the right side of the video is Mery, her Grandmother! This is one of the very few times her father has ever been seen (His choice).
Loved the background on this song. Angelina made me rediscover music in many ways. After listening to songs that were even before my time my appreciation grew immensely. Then I discovered who she is and has always been as a person. Now my role model for who I want be as a person is 45 years younger than me.
Things are never gloomy when listening to your reactions! Angelina captured the essence of Billie Holiday in this performance as you so eloquently outlined. In addition to reacting to the remainder of the AGT performances, I would highly recommend you put on your list Angelina's version of I'm a fool to want You by Billie Holiday, when she is 11 in the studio. She does it acapella for her second AGT performance here at 7 years old. But, the 11-year-old version seems like fantasy it is so good! The emotion is palpable. These talent shows, the artists have only a limited amount of time to do their performance. It is common for singers to have to shorten songs and leave verses out to complete within the allotted time. It is also possible her family chose to leave the more sinister portions out of the song as they were not age appropriate. Peace out. By the way, I thought you would appreciate this mashup of Angelina singing duet with Billie Holiday ua-cam.com/video/H_5_AT_N-pg/v-deo.htmlsi=FhmYDvZ-SkkxB-XJ
One thing you gotta understand about the Bedford princess. At that age the family was still involved, especially her mom of what she thought she should sing and what she shouldn’t sing. at the age of seven. She did a song that was sent to her by baby fuzz. to do a demo tape at the age of 10. It’s called still holding out for you and it was leaked. As far as I’m concerned that is one of the most awesome song she’s ever done. The reason it was leaked is after she did the demo her mom felt that she shouldn’t release it because it was about suicide. Go listen to that still holding out for you . after it was leaked the family. Let it stay out there.
It is true that she muddled some of the lyrics, but if you actually have the lyrics in front of you, you will see that she did sing all of them, maybe not perfectly, but everything was there, and this was the only time during Norway’s Got Talent that she was not perfect. When she sang “I’m a Fool to Want You” a cappella, it was perfect, and she was unbelievable. Omar, the young judge, witnessed her working with musicians to accompany her for her songs, which she arranged for her performances on NGT, this was the first indication to them that she was a prodigy, no one was in doubt of her talent after that!
Amazing just amazing what she did. It wasn't perfect. But better than 99.999999999999999999999999999% of all greats could even dreamed of at that age. I savor the 3 seconds where we can see her being human at this age before she blossoms to complete immortality. I know it's coming. 13 year old Angelina warned me "you better be ready dude". Thanks so much!
@@A-AronReacts your analyis and insights here are fascinating... by the way, on other songs her fans (and I am one) often refer to her "perfect imperfections.."... they often seem to just add rather than detract from the performance... clearer examples come in her live concert performances which I expect you will get to before long
I have watched this audition a thousand times and once again I have tears in my eyes. It is almost spooky. You absolutely want to listen now to her rendering of I'm A Fool To Want You, which she sings next in the competition a cappella! Please make sure you listen to the FULL version, as they cut the middle section for timing reasons. I know that some people will carp at your criticisms, but I know that it is only by noticing the tiniest imperfections that one can work on them and become truly great. A true artist is never satisfied. Even at the end of I Put a Spell on You, her thoughtful expression seems to say, 'Not bad, but . . . ' I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions. Can't wait for the next one!
Angelina is a force of nature and a living legend. Hearing Angelina sing is a life altering experience. This is the world according to Angelina. Her whole life, from the time she was eighteen months old, is documented. I know of no other artist who’s musical life is documented.
True, she did some things not perfect, but it's like you can tell how she hears the right details in her head and heart! (except for some mistakes in the English). To sing such a difficult song in the even more difficult style of Billie Holiday, with the unique inflections and unpredictable timing, at the age of 7 is insane. Also the timing in the slow beat (without clear drum beats) is incredible. Kids usually can't deal with those slow rhythms. And than, she may not have understood the emotions of the lyrics completely the way adults do, but she certainly understood the emotions of the melody and the music. She has a natural melancholy in her voice and feel for music. If she did things differently than Billie it was still very special! Love this girl! Thanks for your detailed analysis!
By the way, I was in the fourth row center and then second row center in Vegas. My sweet experience still lingers on! I live on the Central Coast of California! Hi angels. 😇🌸👋
I hope one day you will end up on my Channel to see some of the Highest Quality Videos of Angelina in Las Vegas this past leap year, Feb 29th, 2024 - more about that at the Bottom below. But as much as I am impatient for that, I am even more impatient for you to attempt to do exactly as you are intending to do : just like Angelina's own career, DON'T RUSH IT, but at the same time, don't Take FOREVER, which could easily be the result if you take the time to react to more than say 20% of her most amazing performances. I imagine people have offered you lists of songs to react to - hopefully they are lists that will give you a representative cross section of her journey. I will offer my own eventually, but the start of it would be for you to finish the NGT performances, which will set you up very nicely for all that is to come afterward. GLOOMY SUNDAY was the first of 4 NGT performances - the other 3 are detailed next. The other 3 NGT performances : I'M A FOOL TO WANT YOU (2nd audition, sang A CAPELLA ! literally in front of her competitors, who were lined up / standing right behind her ), BANG BANG (semi final) & SUMMERTIME (winning performance). You already have 4 of her most Important performances under your belt - BOHEMIAN, SPELL, I WHO HAVE NOTHING and GLOOMY SUNDAY. I would like to offer to help guide you along your Journey. Is there any way for me to contact you directly? We could potentially use Instagram or TikTok or Facebook or Discord Direct Messaging, or email or... maybe you have a suggestion. Thank you very much. It is absolutely Awesome to have a person such as yourself with a strong Jazz background and musical knowledge reacting to Angelina - you have a unique Perspective that we ANGELs value GREATLY and you have the insight that that experience offers to see the true Genius that Miss Angelina Jordan posses... and over time, you will come to find out just how Deeply Profound that Genius actually is, both as an Artist and a Person. THANKS AGAIN - Your reactions are Truly Valuable to us ANGELs. sincerely, James Thiel, aka summaEngineer, aka 😇Jim _________________________________________________________________________________________________ In regards to the Las Vegas Shows . . . (Feb 29th, INTERNATIONAL THEATER [Elvis's 600+ sold-out shows], Westgate Resort, 7pm & 9:30pm): I was sitting Front Row Center and recorded quite a number of songs in 4K from probably 12 feet away; that video I recorded has been paired up with dozens of others recorded by at least a dozen other people (mostly strangers) who donated their videos to the cause of attempting to create the Highest Quality videos on UA-cam of Angelina's 20 songs performed that night. All of these donors either donated their video on their own without me personally even having to ask or did so immediately and without question upon my asking - that is a testament of the type of people that Angelina attracts as her most loyal fans (and I guess to a point the trust these strangers have in what I do for Angelina every day). Thanks again, 😇Jim _________________________________________________________________________________________________ by the way, I can with Certainty state that those will NOT BE YOUR LAST Angelina-Induced TEARS ! 😀😢
Oh, yes! You should absolutely collaborate with James Thiel! I was at the Las Vegas shows, both of them, on the 4th row, and his videos are the closest thing possible to the live experience!
Yes, Jim or James Thiel will definitely guide you through most of Angelina Jordan's career, and if he doesn't have the answers, other Superfans, SuperAngels, or even Angels of hers will. Be sure to go through the first four songs; there's three left of the quartet of songs she did for Norske Talenter, or NGT. I think it was done over 4 months, but she grows tremendously through that time. She doesn't have any of the missteps that you mentioned for "Gloomy Sunday" in "Bang Bang" or "Summertime," and for voice performers or people who understand singing, her acapella version of "I'm A Fool To Want You" is spectacular. This is such a wonderful community; if one person doesn't know something, another Angel will definitely know it. She has been brought up as a prodigy in the digital age, and her whole career is on film, with tremendous thanks to Mery Zamani, her mormor or grandma, and Sara Aster, her mom. Her grandma was a prodigy herself in art and poetry, so she knew to give Angelina Jordan all the room she needed to grow, and that included, I think, in the beginning, paying for the bands and the production of videos. We love your reactions, and definitely continue on! ❤️
I'm glad you were a little critical as most reactors are hesitant to critique a 7-year-old. She is so good an honest appraisal is just fine. As you mentioned she improved immensely during this competition. In the second song, all the words are clear and it is sung acapella with maybe a little bit of imperfection although hard to explain why I think that. The 3rd and 4th songs are sung with a level of perfection one would normally only expect from a seasoned professional.
If she weren't the superstar she is I likely wouldn't even think about being so critical but I do feel it's entirely appropriate for her here. Soon enough I WON"T BE ABLE to critique her ;)
I've seen a lot of reactors who reacts to Angelina. Not many are honest, and not a lot of them has the knowledge to really understand what Angelina is doing. But you seem to understand everything. And by listening to you, I discover new things about Angelina that I've never had thought of before. She is by far my favorite artist in this world. Her voice and her singing is next level to me. Thank you for your reactions to Angelina, I will watch them all. Greetings from Norway.
In Angelina's documentary, 10 Years In The Making, she speaks of the consequences of this audition. She says that people were coming from as far as Los Angeles to see if she was real. For a time, she even stayed home rather than go to school because of this influx of these people.
Great reaction❤ It's gonna be SO, SO interesting to follow you on your Angelina journey. I have followed Angelina since this very audition, and she is still blowing my mind. There is no one like her or there I think. Love from Norway 🇸🇯❤️🇺🇸😇🎸
Her mother would not let her sing some of the lyrics . This is not the only song where it has happened ,she received a new song to do a demo for another songwriter . Her mother would not let her sing it after the first demo. Someone released it despite her mother.
I suspect that Angelina is one of those people that are born with perfect pitch. It is also certain that she had listen to a lot of jazz from an early age. Most kids at seven sings “twinkle, twinkle “ or perhaps some popular pop songs. There is a clip where Angelina at the age of eighteen months try to sing a Whitney Houston song and that should tell you a lot about her. Every century there are born one or two persons that shows extremely skills even at a very young age. Mozart is one of them. I think Angelina is one of those from this century.
Without having learned all the facts about this song in your introduction, I would be totally unaware of Angelina Jordan today. I had read all about the Hungarian Suicide Song legend for a piece I was writing 8 years ago and then, being familiar with Billie Holiday but not her rendition of the song, I decided to find it on UA-cam. I was immediately distracted by a thumbnail suggesting that a 7-year-old had covered a song I now knew had been banned by the BBC for most of the 20th century . . . for a prime-time talent show. I was not only curious to hear it, I was curious, based on what I had learned of the song’s reputation, which parents had exposed their 7-year-old to it for long enough to have learned it! I duly listened to Angelina and immediately knew how the Billie Holiday version would sound; so much so that I actually became engrossed in Angelina Jordan covers and forgot to listen to Billie Holiday altogether. Having done so a day or two later, I felt like Angelina sang it like Lady Day stylistically more than sounded like her, which was itself remarkable. Like you, I feel Angelina had listened to the song on repeat but she is a fast learner, so once she had ‘learned’ albeit the incorrect lyrics, actually studying the song in any more detail went out the window, especially since she herself indicated later on that auditioning with ‘Gloomy Sunday’ was a random decision. Clearly she sang what she knew and she does the same thing in her next NGT song, another Billie Holiday cover of which I’ll warn you there is a cut down and a full version including the bridge circulating on UA-cam. Later on at age 11, her grandmother filmed Angelina rehearsing that song, ‘I’m a Fool to Want You’, for her first album, ‘It’s Magic’. The UA-cam clip for that shows Angelina in the booth following the lyrics on her phone even though it had been part of her repertoire for the past five years. Why? I believe because she had encountered someone in the recording process who was the perfectionist that Angelina never was. When you get to her more intimate covers, often accompanied by a single guitar or piano, you’ll become as aware as she must be of several slip-ups but, unlike almost any other performer or, indeed, any young person doing anything, she is happy for her videos to be posted regardless of any imperfections. If, as I do, you regard Jazz as the most informal and improvisational of genres, childhood Angelina suited the role of Jazz singer perfectly.
Wow what an amazing writeup. Look these imperfections are soooo minor and a BILLION times less than ANY 16 or 18 or 20 year old would make. She is just incredible. But I think it is important to call them out because I already suspect that at some point I'll be like "what the heck can I say to that but amazing". Soooo... I'm savoring the moment when my amateur ears and eyes see any minute imperfection. It's just unreal what she has done
For various reasons throughout the years Angelina had chosen to change some words in some songs. She completely changed Amy's Back to Black to make it more suitable for a young girl to sing.
Since you are doing very detail research you will probably be interested in this detail which you likely missed: Here is what she said about how she chose the song for NGT (she was 7) - The reason I chose this song is totally random. I love jazz, but " Gloomy Sunday " was accidental. It was a night I could not sleep and my mom was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed mum's iPad where I would listen to jazz on UA-cam before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and closed eyes. I am talking about jazz queen Billie Holiday, she said to the Norwegian television channel TV 2. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday " that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood very well what the text was about because I understand English. Every time I sang it, I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for my mom, she said that this song is nice, but it was an incredibly sad song.
On live performances, she'll close her eyes. A lot of reactors will say she's doing that from being nervous. The stage is Angelina's home, and she invites us in whenever she sings. She had an interview at 12 years old on a Scandinavian TV show, before performing her then new song Shield. She said when she's on stage and closes her eyes, she goes to another world, a very beautiful world.
That's Correct - the stage is Angelina's Home, and the more her eyes are CLOSED, the more at Home she is. Some of her most amazing performances are delivered with her eyes closed most or nearly the entire time while singing; she still goes to 'that place', or as you wrote it... "she goes to another world, a very beautiful world." 😇Jim
This makes a tremendous amount of sense. I've told many people and maybe I'll (maybe?) remember to mention on my next reaction where she closes her eyes... I used to close my eyes quite regularly when playing the trumpet. Didn't matter if I was performing or practicing or what. I would truly escape into another world. It was 10000% magical. Nothing in my life has ever come close to that!
@@A-AronReacts A-Aron - I thought I had heard you mention 'Trumpet' in one of the videos - I was watching again just now, and it was confirmed... Yes ! You said Trumpet, and you said it in the above response as well. I too Play - or, I did quite some time ago. However, my BACH Stradivarius is still in my Closet ! It was built for me in 1994, special order, with a SOLID SILVER Bell. What a Beautiful piece of work it is, and a DREAM to Play. Jim
In her younger years Angelina and her family looked very closely at the lyrics of songs she wanted to sing. Changes to the script were made if some lyrics seemed totally inappropriate for her. She sings some Amy Winehouse songs whereby some lyrics had to be avoided, or 'modified'. I appreciate your in depth look at all the particulars that went into making this performance what is was but there is no denying, listening to her sing it was emotionally overwhelming. Most of the people in the audience, including those watching the video probably had no idea who Billie Holiday was and probably never heard her sing so what they were reacting to was listening to a 7 year old child sing with a tone of voice which reached into them and touched their hearts. And, my friend, this is where I'd like to point something out. Did you get the feeling she was singing 'for you' besides singing to you? That accounts for the fact she never appears nervous when she performs. Personal gratification? It takes a backseat to what she is doing. She wants us to feel joy, always have hope, and to feel the love in her heart. Applause to Angelina is an indication that all of those things occurred. It will become more evident as time goes on. Yes, the blonde woman who was crying backstage during the performance was her mom (Sara). Sara was once asked to explain how Angelina exhibits so much poise and confidence at such a young age. Sara's response was when Angelina was 8 years old she was already acting like a young adult. And, the story continues................I cannot wait till you hear her sing 'What A Difference A Day Makes' at 8 years old singing at an outdoor event with thousands in attendance. There is a short interview prior to her performance and although it is in Norwegian there are subtitles in English. If you take everything that is going on in the video it would probably take you well over an hour to explain to us your version of what is going on. And, when you are done with a critique lasting an hour and you look at the video again, you will find more 'stuff' that passed you by. only Angelina...
I have noticed the differences in the lyrics and I think like you said she has listened to this many times and she is singing the words she knows that is as close to what she hears. In other words, words like numberless is probably not in her English vocabulary at this age.
You got to remember there is a time limit on the performance and that her family wouldn't allow certain lyrics to be said. That is why she changed Back to Black. As a 7 year old little girl she did an amazing job. You need to watch the rest of her NGT performances.
Aprreciate your knowledge of Jazz. If you want to look at the progression, her next performance on NGT is “Im a fool to wan’t you” in acapella. She then does a recording of I’m a Fool to Want You” at 11
Thank you for your awesome reaction you will be blown away through your journey with her shes 18 now and has over 200 covers and originals she is unbelievable i have listening to her since 2016 wild bill
In your intro telling us the meaning of the song to you, made it emotional as i felt your honest reaction to this. One of my best reaction to this song ever. I saw this live and voted for her win back in 2014. I noticed it immediately that she was special. Love from Norway!
It's her second audition for NGT. The first was even more striking--it was a cappella, with all the other contestants present, taking turns. "I'm a Fool to Want You." ua-cam.com/video/y3oYloFYRzI/v-deo.html

I really enjoy your reactions and insights to these videos. Years ago I played in a jazz combo and retired from a career in science and technology only to be inspired to return to my roots by Angelina. It's been a little over a year since I discovered this young prodigy. After watching tens of thousands of her videos of all sorts I can only say it is a deep and wonderful rabbit hole on many levels: the growth of her musical skills, the wonderful musicians and world figures she has met, her loving family, the tragedy of loss and setbacks that she has experienced and finally the worldwide community of fans called Angels. Each of these phenomena are universes worth exploring in their own right. I'll offer a few comments on this reaction; some things I think I think: 1.) Keep exploring Angelina's videos. You will be richly rewarded musically, on your channel and as a human being. 2.) Every performance by AJ is unique and in the moment inspired by her love of music and of people. She never does the same song in the same way twice. Every time I hear something new from her it is always fresh. 3.) As good as her videos and produced music on Spotify are, nothing compares with hearing her perform live. She relates to each person in her audience in a deeply personal way. I've been to her concerts in Portsmouth and Las Vegas. In Portsmouth it was like a family gathering and personal audience. In Vegas it was even more the case. Her "perfect imperfections" just reach out and touch our hearts like few other artists. 4.) If you want to bring your unique talents to this party reach out and get in touch with folks like James Thiel, Chris Walker, Alan Papier, Pontus Osterlin, Steve Ackerman, Andy Schnell and others. There are thousands of fascinating people in the Angel community from all walks of life. What they have in common is a love for Angelina's art and her simple message of kindness and love.❤
The day Angelina was conceived, all the stars in the universe were aligned...Fate and Destiny...Her fate was sealed to become one of our greatest singer song writer of our time, something she can't escape, it was fate...She's now DESTINE to be a super star, bring love, compassion and beautiful music to the world. It's her destiny.. We are all so bless for it..Great reaction my friend. Cheers..
There is an interview in which Angelina tells us she couldn't sleep the night before the audition so she pulled out her ipad and found this song from Billie Holiday, it's likely her mother made Angelina take out some of the lyrics to make it more age appropriate as you will find out Sara (her mother) has required for many of the adult songs Angelina sing's in her early years. So NO she did not sing this 100 times, most likely only two or three times. This is the first and the last time you will ever see Angelina sing this song since after singing this she finds out what the song is about and decides she will never sing this song ever again. There is another song you will later hear about that she sang and she refused for it to go public because of the same theme and the writer was not willing to change the lyrics, but was later leaked onto UA-cam in a fan made video and allowed to stay. With each song she sings from here on you will notice a remarkable improvement in her skill level, you ain't seen nothing yet. Continue to use the links I provided in the last video, In her next song it is important what you don't hear. Thanks for this wonderful reaction.
Her mother changed some lines to be sure, IMO. At 10 yo she recorded a demo for a writer and it was not released, bc it became understood that it had suicidal reference. The song, I Keep Holding Out for You was leaked and it was better than what the writer released.
She said she decided to pick that song the night before. What is ignored is that she has a repertoire of songs at age 7. Her timing, even back then was super.
Thankyou for not picking apart her entire song and they are only allowed a certain amount of time in the competition. By the way she is only seven and it would be good of you to base your picking apart her every word.
Probably mentioned below but I'll mention it again her mother has always reviewed the lyrics and would have her leave out or rewrite the original lyrics to make them age-appropriate. 😇🌺
Yeah understandable in why that was the verse that got cut for audition. But the imperfections I pointed out weren't word changes but mistakes. It's ok, being 99.99999999% perfect AT THE AGE OF 7 still makes her the Angel you so revere
Thanks so much
This is the point in time where I and almost 1/4rh of the Norwegian population had a JAWDROPPING MOMENT 🤩🤩
Mum didn't want her to sing it because of the theme...Angelina rewrote some of the lyrics to appease her concerns....Original: "little white flowers could never awaken you - not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you" (very obviously pointed at suicide/death)...Angelina's lyric change: "little white flowers were never a waste on you - not where the black hole of sorrow has taken you" (very much more steered toward depression/sadness)
Angelina has always made amendments to the lyrics of songs where the theme is not age appropriate for her in order to keep Sara happy...For a seven year old girl to take that upon herself is simply mind boggling
I thought it was perfect. Thats why she won the show. Shes perfect. 😎🇺🇲👍🌟💯
She was interviewed and she feels the emotion in her songs, especially this one. If you listen to her second performance (acapella) which is another Billie Holiday song, timing and pitch are perfect. Again a couple fumbles with lyrics but otherwise spot on. A couple of fans have put it to original music and wow!
amazing..that reaction is coming tomorow or Saturday :)

Y'all trying to make me blush? Seriously though...I appreciate you taking the time out to say so. I do hope to keep doing so...will certainly try :)

Angelina wears shoes often during rehearsals and of course, everyday life - but goes barefoot when she performs on stage for an audience.
Got it, thanks
By the way, she sounds like Winehouse, and when she Covers Elvis' How Great Thou Art, she sings it in his key.
and sounds like Elvis
My Sundays are never gloomy when I listen to Angelina!
Love this!
I always enjoy your reactions. I find myself listening to Angelina every day. Can't get enough 🙂

It got to you it does everybody that way hang on there's a lot more to come 💯 ❤❤🎉🎉

Been watching Angelina for about 5 years now. Went to Vegas to watch her concert, she never disappoints!
I was there as well. It was fantastic! (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
Ohhh - me Too. . . I was there too. 😉 I think everyone here in the comments that sees this message and went to Vegas should just quickly state that they went and where they are from. I will start that 2nd part off: 😇Jim St. Augustine, Florida, USA
I was there for both Las Vegas shows. I travelled from Clarkesville, GA to have the honor to see her from the 4th row!
@glenndavis5349 Where did you travel from for the concerts?
One thing about Angelina that's been true from the start, when she sings you feel it.
Yes!
😇Jim
Thanks so much....I didn't close my eyes but I could hear soooo much of Billie in her
If you missen too more song Angelina covers, than you sud know Angelina change some words of every cover she sings! And she her fans love that! 👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍❤❤❤🙏
Agree! Changes to the lyrics, beat, tempo, etc are all a part of “jazz”. No body does it better than Angelina!
Great, thanks! Angelina LOVES shoes but never wears them while performing.
Thank you
She broke the curse on this song.
LOVE it!!!!
She gotcha. She gets us all. 😢😅
Yes she grows very fast in depth and style. She has developed this from greats like Billy Holiday. Her Mother would not let her sing anything that outright spoke of suicideShe has a very specific wobbly vibrato learned from Billy. You have to do the other songs to see how in the same contest she improves greatly This was her very first performance
On TV and in front of an audience so nerves were there ven though she gets very serious when time t is perform Wait til you get to Summertime her last winning performance
Thanks!
Love it.
Thanks!
A sad song, but she delivers happiness 😊 and we want always more diving deep into her music world 🌎

Appreciate your detailed and informative reactions.
Wow. Thank you
Great and careful reaction, thank you Aron. 💛🧡❤

Agreed...thank you!
Thanks
Now listen to the next 3 numbers on NGT. The second number she does acapella. You can hear how she has been working on her technique.
The last two are after a period of time and her tooth is growing back. I think she is 8 by the last performance. You can hear her voice maturing.
@@ClifftheBigRedDoggy Semi final was in April, and the Final was 23rd May; so 8 for both 😇
amazing...thanks
Nice react👍

He handled it very well. In a way, he allows her innocence to shine.
Love your reaction!
I am sooo looking forward to see the reaction for the studioversion. But. She was 11, not 12.
@@geoffreynorth9046 I completely agree with you. Alas, too many people have yet to get on board with this fact.
@@103mrg there are so many myths and rumours that circulate about Angelina: the truth is remarkable enough, no need to exaggerate...
@@geoffreynorth9046 Exactly!! 👍
Another great one to look forward to, that`s for sure 😊👍
Back to NGT now; - I think you will be amazed by her amount of development even from one performance to the next (4 songs) during those few months.

Benvenuto nel mondo di Angelina. ❤🥲🧚♀️👣
Peace out.
By the way, I thought you would appreciate this mashup of Angelina singing duet with Billie Holiday

Thanks so much. Is that link "safe" lol....meaning I won't spoil my "yet to react"edness?
Even at the end of I Put a Spell on You, her thoughtful expression seems to say, 'Not bad, but . . . '
I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions.
Thank you for sharing the fruits of your hard work with us. 🙏

Definitely worth following through the competition to see her amazing growth vocally.

In regards to the Las Vegas Shows . . .
(Feb 29th, INTERNATIONAL THEATER [Elvis's 600+ sold-out shows], Westgate Resort, 7pm & 9:30pm):
I was sitting Front Row Center and recorded quite a number of songs in 4K from probably 12 feet away; that video I recorded has been paired up with dozens of others recorded by at least a dozen other people (mostly strangers) who donated their videos to the cause of attempting to create the Highest Quality videos on UA-cam of Angelina's 20 songs performed that night. All of these donors either donated their video on their own without me personally even having to ask or did so immediately and without question upon my asking - that is a testament of the type of people that Angelina attracts as her most loyal fans (and I guess to a point the trust these strangers have in what I do for Angelina every day). Thanks again, 😇Jim

by the way, I can with Certainty state that those will NOT BE YOUR LAST Angelina-Induced TEARS ! 😀😢
Great reaction!
Thanks so much
If she weren't the superstar she is I likely wouldn't even think about being so critical but I do feel it's entirely appropriate for her here.
Greetings from Norway.
wow...thanks so much!
In Angelina's documentary, 10 Years In The Making, she speaks of the consequences of this audition. She says that people were coming from as far as Los Angeles to see if she was real. For a time, she even stayed home rather than go to school because of this influx of these people.
Geez
Really good and honest reaction. I expect minor mistakes at age 7. Also, singing in a language not her own. Remakable.

When I sang it for my mom, she said that this song is nice, but it was an incredibly sad song.
amazing..thanks
@@summaEngineer I happen to believe "that place" is what Jung refers to as the "collective unconscious".
10 is when she hears and performs her own voice and produces several hallmark recordings and performances.
Thanks so much
Thank for your reaction.
❤❤❤
Thank you
I have noticed the differences in the lyrics and I think like you said she has listened to this many times and she is singing the words she knows that is as close to what she hears. In other words, words like numberless is probably not in her English vocabulary at this age.
She is my favorite singer.
Me too
Me three!
Me four!
Ditto.
Me six, ❤️👣
You got to remember there is a time limit on the performance and that her family wouldn't allow certain lyrics to be said. That is why she changed Back to Black. As a 7 year old little girl she did an amazing job. You need to watch the rest of her NGT performances.

Her mother actually tried to get Angelina to sing a different song. But Angelina was determined to sing this one.
Angelina was also singing with one missing front tooth!
Adorable!
Good point!
I'll offer a few comments on this reaction; some things I think I think:
1.) Keep exploring Angelina's videos.
Cheers..
Thanks so much
There is an interview in which Angelina tells us she couldn't sleep the night before the audition so she pulled out her ipad and found this song from Billie Holiday, it's likely her mother made Angelina take out some of the lyrics to make it more age appropriate as you will find out Sara (her mother) has required for many of the adult songs Angelina sing's in her early years.
Thanks. There is another video of her singing this when she is a little older practicing in a studio. You can hear the differences.
AngeLina Learned EngLish on Her Own & Was Singing n EngLish Since the Tender Age of 18 months as Seen on the Documentary 👍🍾🍷
Thankyou for not picking apart her entire song and they are only allowed a certain amount of time in the competition. By the way she is only seven and it would be good of you to base your picking apart her every word.
Wait till you hear Bang Bang.....and Summertime!!!
