Am a Bengali and this is the only marathi film I watched. It's beautiful.
It's beauty lies in it's simplicity actually. So fresh. Felt like I was present with them all the while. Very natural .
Marathi and Bengali have a lot in common. There is significant emphasis on literature in addition to making movies with powerful characters and storylines in both cultures. There is a focus on real-life acting from relatively unknown and/or strong actors vis-à-vis massive budgets and star casts.

He was 18!...each and every artist from this movie is picked up by the director Himself from the village where he comes from and other villages near his!!....and this movie broke records of Marathi film industry in all aspects..... "Sairat" means "insane" in Marathi, which is the regional language of the state of Maharashtra and Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra. Marathi uses the same devnagri script as Hindi, just some insight. The movie is amazing by the way.
Sairat doesn't mean Insane. Yeda means Insane in Marathi. Their is no exact translation for Sairat in English but it's more like being carefree enough to even lead on a path of Self Destruction. (Self Destruction, not in the literal sense as in harming oneself, but no longer caring about the consequences of one's actions)

The whole movie was shot with non actors and had one of the best acting. That shows the skill of director.

Also, the score is awesome, and some songs were recorded live with Symphony Orchestra. Brilliant in all respects.

It's so beautiful, you forget the passage of time. It's an insanely beautiful movie. The shots, the cinematography, the direction, the acting, everything is epic.
One of epic story based in real incidence happened in rural india....songs are really awsomes....Marathi film and Bangali film always have great stories...and more realistic

The two titular characters were discovered by the creators and were just regular students when they were cast. This is an absolutely beautiful and hard-hitting movie. It's a must watch! Yeah, the score is just AMAZING!

It is a completely tasteful and extremely responsible film. Because, it shows unfortuante realities that still exist. Not a perfect movie, but very powerful.

It's a beautiful movie, not only because of its story but because of the natural acting and almost the real life characters. And the simplicity in which it was presented is the most difficult thing to do by any director and the music is just lovely and soothing to the ears. Love from Punjab to my Marathi brothers and must watch for you Rick, Korbin and Alexis. Just don't miss it. A damn serious movie

You guys have to watch this movie, i do not speak or understand marathi but this movie transcends language. It's cinematically beautiful, musically gorgeous even though story is pretty common the telling of it is extraordinary. Can't emphasize enough you have got watch this.

you must watch Marathi movies. Away from glitz and glamour of bollywood and usless action sequences of south, Marathi movies are content based with superb theatrical acting and solid story line mostly on contemprary societal issues. Marathi cinema is most underrated cinema in India.

In southern movies I m more exposed to Telugu movies which made me put that generalised comment on southern movies. I am not a Fan of Hindi movies, but I also object to ur generalised comment that Almost all of hindi movies are remakes. only 4-5 movies per year are remakes.

Well, I've to admire korbin...how does he manage to find all of these trailers that we were never able find...
Thos movie is real, hard hitting, adorable, no unnecessary glam and glitz. It will take your heart away. The musical scores are mind blowing. Great work by Ajay-Atul.
Also these lead characters are just school students who were scouted for their first film. But you wouldnt get that one bit. Cz the core of this film is in its rawness, its resemblance of India(especially daily life interactions) is much closer that what most movies would show.

Finally a must watch movie from the Marathi universe. You won't believe that the lead actors were non actors....Just picked up by the director from everyday life. The male actor was a rural wrestler and the lead actress was in high-school when selected. The movie won the national award. The director... Nagraj Manjule....is one of the geniuses from rural Maharashtra state who knows the craft very well. He's now directing a movie with the Big B in it. This score for the movie was made in London by a Philharmonic orchestra and was still suitable for a rural Marathi story.... That's the power of cinema.... right there. Put this one on your must see list. Great Social Commentary

It is the highest grossing Marathi film.......direction, cinematography, score......everything screams quality...... the budget is within a million us dollars.... But everything is 4-5 times cheaper in India compared to the west and vice versa.....won't regret watching sairat...
Also, try watching the trailer of 'Natarang' another marathi movie. It is based on a local theatre (marathi) group trying to make way in the industry.
This movie is as intense as its music and direction and acting ... it's everything one can ask for, from a couple of hours... amazingly natural as if their lives were playing in front of you.. the actors are talented and that would be an understatement..

The score, screenplay, dialogue writing and the actors realistic acting, are all those factors which make everyone LOVE this movie.
I have been familiar with many people who doesn't understand their language (Marathi) but even though they agree on the point that they have watched one of the best Love Story ever filmed in Indian Film Industry.

the lead actress was just 13-14 years old when they shot this film.moreover the cast was trained for whole 1 year before actually filming this movie. And the most interesting thing is that all the leads and supporting cast lived together with the director for that 1 year in his house
