You make some great points about the defensive struggles. No matter the opponent the offense always seems to perform at their ceiling against our defense. Hopefully that will end with the new players and coaching staff.
I am most interested to see if the strength and conditioning changes will make a difference.
The willingness to hit the portal as a quality player says as much about lack of loyalty to teammates as it does about the coaching staff. Selfishness is at an all time high. Jusify it amy way you want, but many of these young don’t have their priorities in line and now they have the freedom to show their immaturity, greed and selfishness. All of these things are typical of young men their age. A lack of guidance permits them to act without consideration and wisdom. No consequences for actions in the short term is bad for young humans. However, in the long-term, they will learn the hard way as we all have.
Well said. Napier is always preaching accountability but that doesn’t mean his 20 year old players full grasp what that means. You’ve always had huge egos in a locker room but now with six and seven figure NIL deals everywhere for players who haven’t even played a game for a school and the ability to jump ship the moment a coach expects you to hold yourself accountable, makes it harder to keep certain guys happy
When it comes to the wanting to see part, I want to see better play calling on both def and offense. ST needs to be clean and want to see more punt blocks. If we do that, I feel our players will execute way better this year.
This is a 1,2,3 like a bird I sing year for Billy. He doesn't have much to lose. With a schedule like this and all of the heat on him, he should go into these games with a Riverboat mentality and see what happens. I expect to see the real-life version of the fake punt and roll out to the right wheel route/QB scramble play like in the old NCAA video games. UF has a lot of talent and is more than capable of sneaking out from under one of those lilly pads and biting somebody if teams aren't careful. Work'em silly!
I don’t blame Princely or the other players leaving. They want to play for a team that actually wins.
I’ll counter the argument of “I’m Not Being Developed” by asking this: Are the players who feel this way the guys who were Mullen recruits/transfers or Billy’s guys and can we quantify their level of buy-in for what Napier is selling?
We have proof that he can develop NFL level players (O’Cyrus Torrence, Montrell Johnson, Graham Mertz, Pearsall, Shemar James).
We ALWAYS hear Napier mention accountability when he is talking about his process and what he expects from his players and staff. How much of this falls down to the individual efforts of the players, especially in an era of NIL and Free Agency transfer portal where you can up and move if you feel slighted as a player in anyway? Sounds like they expect to be treated like a super star, even when they put in minimal effort in practice and on the field. We know Urban Meyer and Mullen operated like that. “Treat my stars like stars and my sh*t like sh*t”.
I take it Napier has a more business like and equitable approach to his players that might not sit well with divas and prima Donna’s.
We have proof that he’s a poor infield coach. UF had SIX players drafted his first season, including the 4th overall pick, Anthony Richardson. UF was the ONLY team with six or more players drafted that had a losing record. That’s a FACT! Napier had another losing season last year. Was there ANY improvement in ANY area his second season? I thought you played to win, not anything else. I guess you are unfamiliar with what Lombardi said. “Winning isn’t everything….it’s the ONLY thing!”
How do you know improvements have been made. Yes they have changed staff and brought in players from the portal but that does not mean there will be improvement. Everyone is hoping but there is no guarantee. What has Billy done in 2 years. He's 11-14 the recruiting and has been fair but not great in recruiting and it's not looking good for recruiting in 2025. I admit there is a ways to go. What's gonna happen if the Gators don't see results on the field this year and the Gators don't make a bowl game? What then?

Then y'all get what y'all want, for Napier to get fired and for Lagway to hit the portal as soon as that happens. That's what y'all want don't you? 😂😂 improvements have been made just based on the talent that we have been able to get. A lot of the transfer players we got the last couple of years were not a good fit and were likely made out of desperation to help fill the massive roster gaps. We had Corey Raymond continuously miss out on top recruits (Xavier, Mincey, Grimsley to name a few) and had players unprepared to not even be able to make tackles. Now we have the new DB coach hungry and ready to make a name for himself. That's what this team needs. Coach Savage had them D-Line boys soft as shit. Guess what? Coach Chataman roughing them boys up. We needed to dile down the aggressiveness on defensive play calling that gave up big plays, we got Robert's coming in to help with that. We had a soft S&C coach now we got better staff. Billy had 2 years to try and set up his system and now hopefully has most of it in place. I get that we need to see results on the field but I think we needed to fill the roster gaps. Last year I didn't realize how decimated our O-Line was, I'm not saying the starters are going to be better this year (though they have a good chance to be) but at least we have depth to not experience a disastrous fall off like last year when our center got hurt and our left tackle got hurt and we had inexperienced players step up. Don't get me wrong I agree with you that we need results but I feel like there's already positive signs
@@eduardodiaz9433 Lagway will be gone after this year regardless after we go 5-7 and look completely incompetent. These coaches don’t develop players, and Lagway will find that out soon.
@@eduardodiaz9433 I am not sure who y'all are but I personally would like the Gators to win every game, and Billy get a lifetime extension, but I don't see that happening either. Just because changes were made does not mean they will come to fruition. Like I said, you hope they do but a lot of things have to happen. Billy has not proved yet that he is a good coach. If this year goes in the tank I just believe a change needs to be made. Why give him a 4th year?
@@brandonallger1795it is very likely that we got 5-7. I think most programs would go 5-7 against this schedule. Many would be lucky to go 6-6. And I think it's unfair to say they don't develop players without Napier being there for more than 3 years. Most players that have been there haven't really had the time to be developed after only 2 years. However, Torrence and Pearsall who were transfers were developed enough to get drafted highly in the draft. I'm okay with Napier getting fired if he goes 5-7 shit maybe even 6-6 if the team looks like trash. I just think there was positive changes for this upcoming year and if we see improvement in play calling and the teams looks better we should give the man a chance to play with Lagway.
