- The Hardest Manmade Downhill Track In The UK?
After way, way too long, I decided it was time to finally go and try the trails at the Glen Coe Mountain Resort.
To many times I had passed this place and wondered what it was like. Now I know and the answer is excellent!

Andrew - this is line we should take!
Jason - hehehehe
Andrew - ooooffffttttt watch that drop!
Jason - hehehehe
Andrew - what’s the time mate?
Jason - hehehehe
Just what I thought hehehehe, Loved it
Cheers Andy for showing us around the gnarly Scottish trails, very happy I didn't die. Jason from Aus😂
Update from Glencoe 2022: A lot of work has been done on the lower half of both red+black runs to make them more easy to ride without compromising on the fun and steepness. This includes a lot of new bridges and wooden features on the red and lots of new gravel and stonework on the black.
High quality video: exists
UA-cam's video compression: i'm about to end this man's whole career
Superb crystal clear footage once again Mr McTrail Rider 👍 I was getting arthritis just watching that!
You just reminded me why I have never bothered to try and ride that DH track.
Good one Andy, loving the Glen Coe runs - always wanted to go - so much good riding in the UK...
Class vid! Exactly how POV MTB trail videos should be made. Assess the trail and then boss the trail.
Well done mate. That black run is legit and to clean it with only the 2 chicken lines on your second run is incredibly good. That drops ok but that steep section into the boarded right is savage. I wish the red was open the day I was there!
It's refreshing to see on youtube that raw first run on a trail like that. Noping out on features at first sight, and building up to it later. Whats it's like for the regular punter, and not just full send like its nothing, like you see on videos from pros/advanced riders. Just subscribed.
That looks pretty gnarly especially when you add the GoPro effect! Nice work🤙🏼
We rode the DH track on the SDA bedding in day long before most of the rock was visible or the extra stuff put in. They basically hacked a line down the hill and offered cheap lifts to get wheels down it... It was dangerously hilarious 😂 skidding your way down in axle deep mud to hopefully get caught by the few corners they built up.... I'll never forgot that day.... It was nuts
I thought you were a goner at 11:37!! Great vid, awesome scenery
yeah I would say it is from all videos I have seen. The terrain and location are incredible!
Great video.
Did the red 5 times last month on a hard tail. My 56 year old body is still recovering...😂
Andrew, I'm glad you have the wits and honesty to share this 1st visit with all the curious previews over the lips of the drops. Clearly this Black one is not to be run blind... 8:38 looked like you would have been swallowed up whole had you not stopped or had lots of blind speed! Back to the red route at 9:06 so you can remember what its like to ride a bike without stopping, have fun, and not worry about which body part will need healing! You did well on your 2nd run down the black and it was wise to quit thereafter while you had your wits and grit in tack for another visit. Certainly the black run didn't have much margin for error and looks to be unstable enough to be worthy of another preview run on your next visit. Nice review and comparison at the end.
Looks an awsome place to ride and what a place to test yourself will be an even better when they make a few more trails 👍👍 and great riding again Andy
Still one of my proudest achievements in life is completing these trails when I was 13
I’m 14 and recently completed the fort William tracks
@@mtb_matt9436 that’s sick bro
@@thomasfrieland5405 thanks
Great vid, downhills look mint, I would probably bottle that jump, in fact there’s a few I would probably bottle, especially since my crash a few weeks ago haha, looks well worth a visit 😁👍🏻
Marc, nice to see you here too, but shouldn't you only be enjoying it as a spectator without future aspirations to ride the Black?
It’s hard not to imagine yourself riding stuff that you’ve enjoyed watching 😁👍🏻
@@McTrailRider , i just uploaded my crash to my channel, it's pretty mad haha
That looks crazy
McTrail Rider I’m going to start up again on my Kona Stinky. Have to get fit again to do jumps, I keep crashing but I love it.
Agree with you, I think the Black at Glencoe is one of the most intimidating and challenging tracks open to the public in the UK. Rode it earlier this year, and exactly like you; did a few runs and the red and just a couple on the black. Tough ride on a trail bike, just getting down cleanly is win I swerved the last drop/jump as well, scary stuff...
Great video Andrew! We did Glencoe a coupla years back, hungover, in the rain... horrible. Need to go back and do it properly :)
Absolutely on the money Andy as always just caught up on your last three Alex rode well in her vlog and you were flying my friend 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧✅✅
Great riding. That Black course looked gnarly as all hell...
Cracking video, thanks for sharing. Trails look mega!
Great vid. I think your logical approach to riding a trail resonates with a lot of people.
I hope I can ride that well some day! Super nice riding and filming!
Class video. Great timing anaw I'm up there in 2 weeks......blind. So nice wee preview.
Great Stuff buddy 😉 bloody handy the chair lift great trails Andrew 😉 enjoyed that buddy 😉👌
Bangin! great vid and great riding. Definitely more to give with your ability on the black but a great effort for just 2 runs. Well done mate
Nice comparison - I like the way other places have braking bumps and Glencoe has braking boulders!
Look sick them trails 🤟☝️that laugh though 😂
Rode the red today and after the first section it is really a rock garden from 2nd section all the way down, it needs a bit of maintenance.
Well ridden fella, you look as though your on the right bike. Hope it's going well..
Take yer pal Greg with ya on that black trail ya will defo jump it ... once again awesome vid
The camera definitely doesn’t do the downhill justice such a difficult track I walked a lot of it well done sir!
Excellent trails, that second one looked well technical and gnarly.. I’d love a go, doubt my wheels would thank me though.. 😂😂😂💥💥
These trails reminds me of 80’s rally cars!
Nailed it mate great vid.!! Very gnarly too 🤘🏻🤘🏻😎
McTrail Rider-Great to watch infact just watched it again! 🤘🏻
That black has some wicked chunk. Nice, you got that drop down.
Hmmmm not sure on that black like, doesn't look fun to me. Have ridden much of the red as part of the Macavalanche and yeah its pretty good. The Top Chief is the right amount of technical and endurance challenge for a man made trail, its almost bang on and the WC track is what it is.
Both should be looking to stick some more trails in though, I reckon snow sports will be completely out the window in the next decade.
If youre on about the dh track being hard, yea thats the whole point
@@dantindley5181 Thank you so much, I had been wondering what the point was for ages. Legend, Dan!
@@Stoo61 anytime wanker 😁
Excellent footage, amazingly technical. If I was to sum it up in one word for me.... "no" 😂, but I definitely salute you and the other bloke.... who disappeared 🤔
@@McTrailRider Good news! He was there one minute and gone the next. 😂
Dude that was amazing flow on that red 😜
My winter home, Been down that a couple of times on a Snowboard when the snow was all the way to the cafe never been on it on my bike yet
@@McTrailRider Is your Helmet The Giro with the removable chin guard ? If so I've got the same one (if it is the Giro what do you think of it)
Beautiful place!
Nice riding! Its been years since I was up there, but only rode the red. I've been put off the black after a DH racer described it as "downright dangerous"! Need to have a revisit to see how I get on!
Just done the black it’s another level. Definitely the hardest DH I’ve ever done.
Yeah it is “downright dangerous”.
I wondered why everyone was sticking to the red.
Now I know. Only came off 3 times
😂
There is more then 2 trails at fort william
They are just hard to find
@@McTrailRider theres more off the gondola if you go over the ridge
The reds look proper fun and your jumps are looking dialed in now man! Any tips for someone who's a bit scared to get decent airtime?
There are some tracks where u just want a full DH bike and the black here is one of them! Brutal
Yes, I would agree with you on that.
Excellent video. I now know my 120mm Trek Ex isn't suitable for that Black run, (thank goodness) hahaha. The red run looks doable though. Top riding there gents.
Maybe just a little too much for your bike 😬😜
Nice riding, think I will stick to reds tho, you did well on that black run 👍😎
Great video as always. This looks like a bit of me this, I love this kind stuff. I wanna plan a trip to Scotland fort william and this looks like another good spot. Can you recommend any trails in the area with these kind of descents.
Hard core, how's old mates nervous laugh.
more trails at both fort william and glen coe - not DH ones though. Been meaning to go there for ages but never got round to it before they started upgrading the track last year. Always knew the black was more difficult than FW. Not going to risk it this year though.
@@McTrailRider three more trails but more XC orientated at the top. not very long but something extra. Don't think I've ever seen you go round an feature.
that place looks cool!
insane!
Holy shinoley! That black run is almost off the scale, to my mind anyway! But those trails are clearly built by guys that ride 'em though. Heh, that wall ride, and you going by it at less than 10mph. How does anyone get to it with enough speed?
@@McTrailRider Flippin eck! They're that fast eh?
I remember doing some mountaineering past the top of that first ski lift. It was not a fun walk up, and on the way back down we saw just how broken the trail was
The paths take some hammering on the west coast mountains, this place is no exception.
@@McTrailRider Yeah, all the bridges that were on the black run werent there, and neither were most of the fences. The drops also werent vertical planks, they were just kinda scattered on the ground.
Sick riding man. These trails just look meaty. Why are you mounting the camera? Under the visor? Again, thanks for the vid
@@McTrailRider Ahhhhhh For some reason I though you used a normal helmet and not a full face. But, the way you ride, like a bat out of hell.....its better you have a full face. Thanks for the reply.
Another cracking vid!! Gnarly bit of trail !!🤘🤘
Is there such thing as downhill hike-a-bike? Cause I imagine that's what I'd be doing a large majority of the time
Neat, informative vid.
Please don't ever get board of doing these videos for us all, I can't always get out on bike usealy at work but I'm making a list of the places you have been, and hoping to get thar myself 👍 keep pedalling
3 years in, and I’m still enjoying it dude. Happy that I’m helping motivate you👍
When I was there I saw a guy riding the red DH on an on-one fatty!! 😆 he did it though!
Pretty sure I know who that is. He lives down the road in ballachulish
Great video
A very well put together vid', the obstacles were realistically described and you gave them a red hot go, on the downside perhaps a little too much edited out.
I admire your ability to live and let live, dear God, that laugh!
@@McTrailRider Also, I did some research on your bike, I've never heard of the brand before. I'm not too sure what a gear set and derailleur typically weigh but to replace that with a gearbox of 2.1 kg on a proper enduro bike and still have the whole lot come to no more than 15.3 kg is impressive, if you're in a position to do an independent review I'd be very interested.
@@McTrailRider Indeed, excellent mass centralisation.
I rode it a few years back
Enjoyed it but only done 2 runs as I was pushing my luck and my skillset defo the hardest track I've done, spent the rest of the day at fort William WC track
You know it’s a tough track when the Fort William Dh track is the easier option 😜
@@McTrailRider definitely mate
great! you're very fast
The homelands are calling!
I’m on the uplift (train) Friday to see the old in-laws at Sterling!! I’m actually staying at the university (dirt cheap top-tip) I’ll be up the local mountains if they wanna speak to me !! I’ve told them the ministry of bikers will confiscate my bike if I went to Scotland with out it!
*Stirling. Sterling is our currency 😜
Nice dude....what glasses you wearing mate?
The Deviate looks like it just munched that stuff up! impressive
Only two runs, wow. What a red? Cause here that’s the colour for Pro Lines
The step down at the bottom of the black, I came off the other day and fractured my wrist ended up in the river
@@McTrailRider cracking run though, really quite technical through the midpoint
Been today, just to check it out as, one - I got up waaay to late, and two - it was absolutely pissing down first half of the day. Did one run on the red, and it looks NOTHING like on this video. One continues rock garden to to bottom. Those doubles - if you dare jumping them, land a tad heavy, in the wrong spot, your wheels will disintegrate. I will be back, just to see what I can make of it, but man, it caught me off guard, was expecting flow, jumps sweeping berms. Nope. I would say, the state it’s in now, it’s way harder then top chef at Ft Bill.
I rode it yesterday for the first time since this video, and it’s definitely not in the same condition. Much bumpier and rutted now. In fact, I think they are holding a downhill race on it in two weeks time.
Your hub is really loud! 😂
To be fair, a black run on a trail bike, well done, now borrow a DH Bike and surprise yourself, great vid.
Go to Danny harts descend bike park
Would i be able to shred this on a hardtail?
That black looks easier then it used to be, I’m sure you couldn’t roll everything
Can you actually cycle up Ben Nevis ?
Looks a graft that and not much fun. Worth a pop though for the uplift fo sho 👌
That’s proper sketchy holy shit u send it
But you sir, can ride a bike! Subbed
You're welcome!
Are you running Shimano XT brakes ?
Does that not absolutely knacker your bike?
You know when he has to walk stuff it’s hard 😂
How much is the stair lift? Limited or unlimited?
Thanks 😎 will be next year I'm going.. not brave enough to do it in the snow
That looks like a nice *walking* path.
Work back at it😮😮😳😳
Good too hear
Keep trucking 👊🏾
Alright Jerry?
Change the title"worst kept track in the UK"
That black line should be in downhill wc, sick of seeing racing on treated tracks but that thing is raw
