am 65 I have prostate cancer and riddled with arthritis to say I can relate to what Dave was going through would be a understatement I have really bad days when I just want to end it all ,but unlike Dave I've led a fairly normal boring life ,never met Dave but followed him on the internet and read his books always found him really funny and entertaining and it was always obvious most of what he said was tongue in cheek but boy did he live I bet he did more in one week than most of us do in a lifetime and I saw his video saying I took the cowards way out ,no what he did was incredibly brave and my heart felt condolences to all his family and friends and thank you for posting this tribute .RIP Dave

Genuinely so sorry to read about your cancer and arthritis/chronic pain Dirk. Can they do anything for the cancer pal? I hope so and they caught it fast not late. The pain I know about my right hands had 3 operations on it and has bits of metal type stuff in the knuckle as it shattered to pieces and they had to put it together best they could. Its nothing compared to your health problems it flares up in the cold so gloves when out all the time. Hope you beat it and live a happy life.

that's very kind of you to ask, prostate not too bad regular blood tests and mri scan, its the arthritis that's the real problem on methotrexate plus steroids but seems to be getting worse, when i heard Dave was in such pain it really hit home to me am not ashamed to admit i really did shed a few tears for him ,again thank you for your kind words. o@@nionegriffin

I met Dave on Michael Franzese's Uk tour last year he was a lovely fella very approachable so down to earth, I'm so glad I had the honour of meeting Dave he was a smashing fella, I like many will miss that smile & voice of his, R.I.P Mr C you will never be forgotten. For that one short time I spent with him at the event he was a gentleman, I would honestly have loved to of gotten to know him that's the kind of ura he had about him absolutely gutted he's gone, Dave certainly had presence he is at peace & no longer in pain anymore, he has given a hell of a lot of people alot of fond memories he went way way too soon, for those that never met Dave he really was a sound guy very welcoming man indeed with a big heart & it was an absolute pleasure to be in his company, thanks for uploading this Dodge ❤❤

It’s not a sad story. He says he’s lived an amazing life and he not willing to muck it by living in crippling pain just to satisfy the people around him. He’s earned that right. Suicide isn’t always the cowards way out. Godspeed. I hope he finds rest because he’s earned its.

What's so devastating is that I doubt anybody knew what was likely to happen. Blokes (and he was a proper bloke) don't talk, and don't ask for help or open up to friends. The one thing I hope we can all take from this sad story is to listen to friends, talk when we need to and be a bit more aware. RIP Dave.

I try not to see it as sad, though i suppose it could be said that's easy for me to say as i didn't personally know him.
As an outsider and someone who respected the man i see it as he had an amazing life, achieved a lot for a working class Englishman coming from nothing. He went out on his own terms, and was very calm and collective as the video he made showed.
His life was a good laugh and he seemed very happy throughout. His death would have been no pain, just lights out.
It was a very noble end that he chose and had the balls to follow through.
      Huge respect to him.

care to expand on that? Suicide is the largest cause of death in men under 50. I'd say there's an issue, wouldn;t you? Sometimes, it takes a 'high-profile' suicde such as Dave's to highlight a problem.

My opinion won't go down very well, and that's good because we are all different, and it's just my opinion, a drop in the ocean. However, I've got and manage, sometimes successfully and some not, a lot of pain in my back and hips, there's only so much pain killers can do, I was born this way, so it's been a big part of my life and of my children's life too. That said, I've had the conversation about not being able to care for myself and cope with the pain any longer and that when it hurts too much to live then I'm bowing out of this world, with a nice little cocktail of narcotics. I don't want them to hurt watching me in pain to the extent of them feeling helpless, and we have come together as a family, and we are all of the same understanding. We don't have euthanasia in this country, and I feel a lot of people would like that to be different, but until then there will be more ending of life by the individual hand. I can totally understand what Dave Courtney did with his own hand. 🙏❤

It depends on the reason for doing it, sometimes it is the cowards way out, sometimes it is just plain dumb. Dave was lucky he had an easy way to do it at a time he felt he couldn't cope anymore with his pain at an old age. Unfortunately our health professionals are not allowed to do this for people who really have had enough.
I'm 46 now, I've had chronic Kidney failure since birth, many opps, years of treatment and transplants. The next 20 years or whatever I have left could become a nightmare towards my end (I've seen it too many times), I whish I had the choice to go when I felt ready.

It's really good to see real men, paying tribute and sharing memories about a real man, who is, of course, the legendary Dave Courtney. Unfortunately, there will be ignorant and illiterate people who will resort to pulling his great character to shreds. That's just their own jealousy and bitterness. Of all the many things that Dave Courtney was, he'd admit himself and has done on numerous podcasts. He did an enormous amount of work for charity and had several organisations close to his heart. Numerous amounts of friends who he also helped and guided in life. He leaves a great legacy, and he won't be forgotten. Memories live on, and so will he in the hearts and minds of so many people. The mere mention of his name brings a smile to many a person's face. God bless and keep you Mr Courtney. Salute 🫡 ❤

I've criticised Dae in the pass and referred to him as a wrong un .but over the recent years I've watched and listened to some of his stories and come to realise that he's not sticking himself as a gangster. He's just talking about what he knows and getting a good living out of it and having a laugh. He helped a lot of other people earn .money without putting themselves on offer. RIP Dave

Fair play to you and your team for doing this Dodge. Very nice tribute. Think Dave would of liked it. Obviously didn’t know Dave myself but working in security I’ve known a few people who have met him and genuinely yet to come across anyone who has met him in person who has a bad word to say about him.
The middle class mainstream media loves portraying people as gangsters and bad men. Dave might of been naughty and lived a wild life but I don’t think he was the bad bloke they liked to portray him as.
He embraced it though and used it to is own advantage making a media career out of it. Fair play to the bloke. Very intelligent guy, what an entertainer and what a mad life he lived! RIP Dave Courtney. One of a kind

Met DC many many years ago at The Clipper in Rothethithe (I lived almost opposite the place). Didn't know who he was at the time (his world wasn't my world) but he was genuinelly one of the funniest, most charming & polite fellas I've ever met. Saw him a few times when I lived down there & every time we passed on the street he always gave a nod & a smile. Always came across as being genuine & honest.

I still can't quite believe it....I have read all his books , and remember when he used to be in front lads magazine , a girl who I was with for quite some time always used to ask me what I was laughing at when we would be led out together having a smoke!!! He always cheered me up!!! Fucking funny stories!!! But also really harrowing ones.... I have always loved the man, I once saw him at a free party years ago, but I have never had the privilege of actually meeting him properly, his passing is another light going out.....another character gone.....so sad.......rest in peace mate......loveeternalpeople

Whatever possessed him to take his own life at 72-73. Baffled. don’t get it myself, I’m sure he’s been through a helluva lot more in the past, just too end it now.! I really do feel for his wife, children, grandchildren and all those close to him. It must be a complete shock to everyone concerned. Madness.
