I'm a licensed esthetician also and I've used microdermabrasion on clients for years with excellent results. I recommend micro derming first and then a peel depending on the client's skin type and condition followed by a moisturizing mask. I do not charge a lot because I want my clients to be able to afford this effective treatment and it costs me very little to do.

May I ask you a question. I'm thinking to buy Trophy Skin MicrodermMD or
RejuvadermMD. Comparing, they are the same, just one is a bit smaller and the price is a lower. Another thing is, before I got HydraFacial (don't know if that's the same) and my esthetician used many different products before and after. Are they not necessary ? Thanks if you can answer. And if not, it's fine, I understand :) Thanks

I just had my first Microdermabrasion yesterday. My skin is absolutely glowing today and the dark brown spot on my forehead is barely noticeable now. My crows feet are much better too. To compare Microdermabrasion to a sponge is wrong on so many levels. Why the heck would you tell people to scrape their face with a sponge?

I wouldn't say that microdermabrasion is a scam. It is great as a buff and polish for the skin and leaves your skin incredibly soft, smooth and radiant for only about 1-2weeks. I totally recommend it as a pick me up before an event or special occasion. There are definitely a lot more effective treatments such as micro needling and chemical peels that give you better results. But what is appealing about micros are that it is non invasive, chemical free and it's quick and easy :)

I agree. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels both do basically the same thing for your skin, and that is to exfoliate the skin. They remove the top layer of dead skin cells to reveal fresher, smoother skin and both stimulate faster cell turnover to keep your skin fresher.
Microdermabrasion is a mechanical means of exfoliation, that is, it uses a scrubbing action to remove the dead skin cells, while the chemical peel penetrates and exfoliates the skin chemically.

Um, you look exactly the same after a facial and mild peel also, but that doesn't mean you're not getting the benefits of the treatment. As an esthetician I can tell you that a microdermabrasion is not just like raking a 49 cent kitchen sponge over your face, and as as a professional it's irresponsible for you to make that claim.
As your video is misleading, deceptive, and outright incorrect, I would like to make the viewers aware of the inconsistencies of your claims.
I perform microderm infusion treatments and show my clients the debris that was lifted from their skin in the output container. Their skin glows from the exfoliation of old dead skin cells and in the case of the infusion method, the serum chosen for their skin type/concerns during the analysis refreshes, hydrates, brightens, and/or clears debris from pores.
I have NEVER worn goggles, nor do my clients require goggles for this treatment.
It would make complete sense to perform a peel, then microdermabrasion, and that is one of the protocols I recommend to some of my clients. The salicylic acid (or whichever acid used) helps to loosen the dead skin cells which the microdermabrasion then sloughs away.
Skin care and treatments are cumulative, rarely does any one treatment provide instantaneous results.
I see you searching for the other horrible things a microdermabrasion treatment can do to skin aside from breaking capillaries and breaking down collagen. Any esthetician worth her license would be able to determine whether a client is a good candidate for ANY treatment, and any skin care/product routine for that matter.
I have had numerous microderm treatments and I can tell you that it doesn't 'hurt'. If you were to use suction that is too aggressive or the wrong granularity or grit of course it will be painful. For that matter, a 49 cent sponge would be painful if used incorrectly on the face or anywhere on the body.
Even YOUR OWN product line states that you can achieve glowing skin "if used correctly". Hmm, I see a theme here.
I don't understand what you intent was for this video, but I say to the public, please do your research on the 'expert' you're listening to and the red flag warnings being given. I can debunk practically every claim made in this video, and I find it ironic that the presenter is angry about being lied to about skin care products and services.

She probably either can't invest or is too frugal to invest in one so she's talking shit on micro. It took me awhile to invest in one and it doesn't take a genuis to know it works. Clients who have got it love it. It was enough for me to get it after high demand even though I favor peels over it or find it amazing to pair with peels. It does serve a purpose.

It depends on "WHO" is doing the microderm. I've had it done for five years, and one person didn't use enough hand stroke so I didn't see a difference. But when I asked for another tech, she used great hand stroke and turned up the number. My face felt like a baby, my dark acne bumps lightened up drastically, and my wrinkles flattened out considerally. A lot of the bacteria that had made a pocket for breakout, went away. My skin was clear and glowy. So if you're not getting good results and see no difference, try another tech. Not all technicians are the same.

As an Esthetician for over ten years, I have learned a lot about microdermabrasion. You typically don't see an immediate result after one treatment, it is a "series" of treatments if you want to see a gradual difference. Microdermabrasion is essentially exfoliating the surface of your skin as well as sucking the dead skin into to machine. Also, the suction brings blood to the surface of the skin to promote the production of collagen and speeds up cell turnover. The statement of using a "Scrubber Pad" is the same as Microdermabrasion is harmful and uneducated!
A Scrubber Pad is used for dishes.....I hard nonporous surface. I don't even know why I'm explaining this, it should be common knowledge not to scrub your skin with a Scrubber Pad. It can cause abrasions that could lead to scarring, discoloration, and sensitivity.

The Micro dermabrasion's I get are with salicylic and glycolic acid applied and my skin was flawless in the days afterwards. I just had a microdermabrasion facial the other day and I immediately noticed a difference in my acne afterwards and my acne still looks better. It did not hurt, in fact I barely felt the machine. The machine was not loud and the student that did my microdermabrasion showed me all the gunk inside the tube afterwards. It looked like a swamp had been living under my skin. I believe microdermabrasion works if done correctly.
You did not handle this very professionally and I would not take advice from you.

I don't mean to be disrespectful to the spa or the woman speaking in it, who I respect for her passion on microdermabrasion. This comment doesn't really have to do with microdermabrasion but spa treatments, and skin care in general. I'm currently working on a presentation for my college about how not a lot is done about cosmetics by the FDA.
On the FDA website, a cosmetic is defined as "articles intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, or sprayed on, introduced into, or otherwise applied to the human body...for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance" (FDA site). Therefore, a microdermabrasion treatment, or other spa treatment is viewed as a cosmetic.
Here's the kicker, the FDA doesn't have to pre-approve the product (in this case, service) before use in the market. They can take legal action against the company and those responsible either when they feel a need to inspect the product, or when someone files a report.
Going deeper, products on the market can be still sold even if they are linked to "cancer, reproductivetoxicity, immunotoxicity, endocrine disruption, neurotoxicity, Organ system toxicity, ecotoxicity, mutations, and biochemical changes" to name a few (EWG site). Why? There can be several reasons such as, it hasn't been reported, it is not deemed to be injurious to user by the FDA, etc.
I say all this to set the record straight, and to let you know that not all doctors have the answers, its up to us as consumers to do our research on these treatments and products we use with credible sources, which I'm sorry, but is not a youtube video or even the comments. I urge you to be curious and cautious with how you do spend your money on services and products for your wallet, for your health, and for your future.
    Links with my information:

I have been debating on whether or not to buy an at-home microdermabrasion machine because it’s been suggested that microdermabrasion would transform my skin and make my large pores look invisible. I appreciate your honest input. I’m sure you’re getting a lot of rude comments for this but I particularly appreciate your review because it’s clear you aren’t being paid to do it. When beauty gurus and the like do reviews raving about a product, sometimes I cannot tell if they’re paid or they legit like the product without sponsorship because they don’t provide a disclaimer.

    Seraphim Skin Care,
Thank you for the info. It makes sense what you are saying. Microdermabrasion is just sanding of the skin. You are a brave woman for just telling us what happens behind close doors at some of these businesses, and I thank you for that.
I work in a dental office where we charge 21 dollars for 2 ounces of Chlorhexidine irrigation after dental cleanings. Chlorexidine is an excellent antimicrobial that people can get it with a prescription at a cheaper price at the pharmacy (between 4-12 dollars for a 16 oz bottle), but we sell it as an irrigation. Scientific studies by the Journal of the American Dental Association state that is good as a mouthwash, but there is no benefit as an irrigation. Well, guess what: we charge it anyway.

There absolutely is science and Sharon Hildritch (UK) has an MBE for her research on the subject. I am 55 and started my esthetics career in the UK where I bought my first and second Crystal Clear machines, back then with the brand training I received the full packet of scientific research. I understand you are not a fan, and you are entitled to you opinion, but other than make youtube money I don't understand why you spent time denouncing this treatment in such an amateur manner. All technology will do damage if it is in the wrong hands, but you are reaching when you state you have seen capillaries and collagen break down, ridiculous, how could you. During client consultation, the client is assessed for contra-indications and offered alternative treatments for skin resurfacing. Thinned skin, capillary issues, high color and /or sensitivity are indicators of causing problems. Microdermabrasion is not my favorite or go to treatment, as I am a leading paramedical esthetician with many other skills and technology at my disposal, but there are clients who enjoy and benefit from the results of this service, but it has to be done by a professional. Your video suggests you have more confidence than skill. You are misinforming the public.

I watched this and I do not agree to what she is saying, I have been doing Microdremabrasion for 10 years, some I do at home when I came not make it to my dermatologist office, I wish I can upload a before photo, I will give you an example as how well it worked for me, I was out with my son and grandson for lunch, my son is 42 years old the watier thought I was his wife and my grandson was our child together, I am 64, you have to do more than just one thing to take care of your skin, I belive in a good facial cleaner, (Organic) Vitimin C moisturizer Which I make myself Organic (I do not like some of the ingredients that most products have in them and they are pricey) good peptides (which I put together myself), good oils (Squalane, Vitamin E) I also use microcurrent and light therapy, so just doing one thing is not the way to go, but when you put them all together it works well, I also do micodremabrasion on my body that works well for me too, I will be 65 this year,... my skin looks and in better health now then it was when I was in my 30's....., everything do not work the same for everbody you have to find what work best for you and stick to it, your skin did not get that way over night and it will not take just one treatment and you wake up the next day and everything looks great, ...give things time to work, take it from me it has work very well for me, you just have to do some work yourself.Try it for yourself and see what you think about it, don't let someone talk you out of somethimg that might work for you.

Many people have stated how angry I seem. You know what? I am angry that we have been lied to about skin care products and services. We have been told untruths for years and years. Many believe what they read in magazines yet what people don't know is that companies pay thousands of dollars to have their articles in print. We work hard for our money therefore every dime we spend on skin care should prove immediate results. Passionate is how I feel about skin. Please check the facts. I don't think she said anywhere that microdermabrasion doesn't work for what its meant to do (exfoliation) what she means here is its just a fancy exfoliation technique giving you the same result as your best practised home exfoliation so why pay hundreds of dollars on it. She says if clubbed with peels its the peel that gives you the result so save some bucks and go for just the peel instead and exfoliate at home. If you don't agree well go get few more sittings but for some like me this information is very useful who look out for treatments for say acne scarring and are recommended microdermabrasion and after 3 sittings you realise its done nothing for you and you have no more money to treat the real problem. This business is such that the practitioner wants you to never stop bringing you money to them for years.

There are 2 types. The diamond tip (I have one of these at home 💗) and a crystal 'blast'. The crystal waa the first microdermabrasion used. It does spray crystals at your skin. I had it done once in my 20s. It reminded me of sandblasting. The results were pretty good. I love the Trophy Skin unit I have at home. It has smoothed my skin considerably. My pores look noticbly smaller too.

" the next day she looked exactly the same" as far as I'm aware to see some visible results after a microdermabrasion you're suppose to wait for a certain amount of time as your skin produces collagen which is why your skin improves and this is certainly not a one day process. You need some extra reading based on this treatment xx

So from my experience I burned my skin pretty badly using a diy mask and was left with really dark hyperpigmentation around my mouth that I couldn’t cover without makeup and wouldn’t budge and lighten at all, 2 years later I decided to get my first facial, when the clinician saw my skin she recommended hydromicrodermabrasion, I was sceptical and didn’t think it would help but thought it was worth a go. I kid you not, one session that’s all it took one session and the dark marks were completely gone, it was very red for a few hours after but my skin never felt so soft after, all the darkness around my mouth had gone and my skin was glowing. I think maybe it depends on what products are used in combination with it but I do think it’s over priced, you can get an at home device for the same price as one session and treat multiple areas. I’m going to purchase my own now from homedic

Yeah, people swear by microdermabrasion but here is the thing, did the esthetician use any form of peels on you? Microdermabrasion is typically used w some sort of peels. People leave w amazing results but is most likely coming from the chemical peel. Another problem is that you don’t know the long term effects under a microscope, and by long term I’m talking about 10 years. Additionally, I can guarantee you will get the same results if not better by just getting peels from your esthetician. Also watch Dr. Drays video about Microdermabrasion which is a more unbiased opinion and talks about the pros and cons.

I can say the same thing for any product this company is pushing and im sure they'll tell me it takes time and continues usage same for most treatments. Unless you're doing lasers or peels, you need to be patient with the process. Expecting all your problems to be condone by 1 facial treatments is unrealistic.

After three treatments, my skin is glowing. Placebo affects don't work with me. I wish I did before and after pictures. I have sun spots that have just about disappeared and fine lines, disappearing. I am sure if I followed after care, I probably would see better results. I live in Canada. The air is VERY dry right now. I haven't taken the care I should in between treatments and still have see results. I gets compliments on my skin a lot. I find the treatment very relaxing. I do understand, as with any treatment, everyone's response is different. The only negative is my friend is going to graduate soon.

Apparently you haven't tried it, or you haven't been trained well to do the procedure. I had 15 minutes pure dermabraison, my skin looked so good and i wore no foundation for a month. Plus if u use glycolic followed by microdermabrasion the skin will become extra sensitive or develop a rash.
