  • I replace the fuel line with gates barricade and add a Racor filter for better filtration. The Racor is the best filter for the BX.

    i really appreciated the way he went right into doing the job with no showing techniques, etc. also i did not have to sit and watch him tighten nuts since he sped up the tape during the mundane activity. i may have to watch a few times to figure it all out, but sure looks good and doable for me. thanks

    Thanks for your video. I installed a Racor 120AT on my 25D. The OEM bottome filter was jammed up over the rear skidplate and was already getting pretty loaded with crud (164 hours). So this was a timely upgrade. I also live in Alberta where it got below -40C this winter so a dependable fuel system is a must. The other filter closer to the engine looks to be in good shape so I have left it in the loop pending the upcoming 200 hour service. I designed my bracket to go over two vertical oriented bolts instead of the horizontal method you used. This enabled me to add a guard plate in front of the filter unit for extra protection. My son is a welder and he put the design together for me. Your video helped me with my install so thanks!

    I did mine almost identical to the one ur doing. Only difference being I added an in line shut off valve at the filter to make easier to change filter and avoid possibly having to bleed system. Good job and is a big improvement to the BX. I really enjoy ur videos. Keep on keeping on!

      Shut offs are not a bad idea. I have a pair of hose pinch off pliers I can use. Thanks about the videos! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Bleeding the system on a bx is the equivalent of turning youre key part way for 30 seconds.

    In addition to detailed service records, I also like to write date, hours, and my initials with a fine point sharpie on the filters and such where they can be easily seen preferably after install.

    Most on the tractor forums get the $22 ebay copies with no issues , get a 5/16 double barbed end brass connector to allow adding longer hose to the filter and run to the pre filter on the engine.

    Nice install, well done. If you use the wix inline filters becareful they are a little larger in diameter and the retainer clamp can pinch and break the plastic on the filter. I found using a couple washers on the mounting bolt between the clamp was a better fit.

      Just finished the install of my Racor 120AS fuel filter/water separator. Looks great. I didn't need to replace all the fuel lines as my tractor only has 66 hours on it. With that said I started to have loss of power issues at about 58 hours, first when I had the mower PTO engaged, then all the time. I determined after investigating this was a common issue with these BX tractors as they have low end fuel filter on them. I replaced the first fuel filter which is way under the tractor behind the fuel pump. It was a pain the the butt to get to and even harder to remove the filter. My problem was solved. I could not even think about changing this filter again, especially when I really need the tractor as it was a 2-3 hour job (remove mower deck, remove protection plate, remove filter which is in a tight place, and reverse to reinstall). So I choice to do as you did in your video and install this high end filter/water separator. I did use a slightly different style bracket because of my tractor. Just double check your wheel clearance (with wheels all the way turned) in your mounting bracket as I had to re-adjust after I installed it. But looks great! Thanks for the video, very informative!

    I'm having an issue why you disassembled the tractor. Not needed to do the fuel filter relocation modification. It's a simple 1 hour job.

    Bullitt: that's some comprehensive work. Man, it hurts my back and neck just thinking about crawling under that tractor to gain access to parts (chuckle). Nice installation job. Thanks for showing us that original fuel filter filled with GUNK. How does tractor run now after nice fixes? I bet owner can detect a smoother take off when he presses on pedal. Nice video.

    • @TractorTech

      Thanks! The guy had been having problems with the tractor for over a year. He put a fuel stop solenoid on it and fuel cap. Neither fixed his problem. He told me to use and get it to act up. I showed him my racor filter setup and he wanted to do that. Since it had a back hoe on it I did some digging with it. It never acted up. Then when I got off the BH and went to move it, it cut out. I let of the hydro pedal and it was fine. Hit the hydro pedal and it cut out. So I hooked up a test light to the seat switch and watched it when it cut out and the test light went out. He had this problem for over a year for a seat switch. While it was in he want a complete service on it. He had been taking it to the dealer and some things like the front axle pivot adjustment had never been done. That crud in the fuel filter was not causing in running problems at least using the BH. It probably want to far from causing it to run bad.

    12:57 that's not thread sealant tape, that's teflon tape which is a lubricant. That fitting has National Pipe Thread (NPT) which means the threads are cut in a way that the threads make a liquid tight seal. The teflon tape lubricates it enough that you can engage enough threads to make it seal and does not provide any sealing on it's own. You can see this when you unscrew freshly tightened thread with teflon tape on it and see how smashed and torn the teflon tape is.

    Is what’s called the lift pump actually just a fuel pump to draw fuel from a lower area to the injection inlet, since gravity won't work for the whole flow? I have a B7500 that I would like to equip with a better water drain. The new part you installed looks like a good option. I have to say that the B7500 fuel filtering system looks much better than the later models with those filters underneath and no way to drain water out of the fuel.

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  2 роки тому

      Yes, you are correct about the lift pump. This filter would be an excellent upgrade for your tractor.

  • @chrisharris4251
    @chrisharris4251 3 роки тому

    So why not remove the filter at the injection pump too? Just for the added filtration?

    • @TractorTech
      @TractorTech  3 роки тому +1

      Leave it on in case something would happen to the lift pump and debris from that would go through the fuel system,

      Just use a pinch off tool on line at the rear of the filter. If you don't have a pinch of tool you can use needle nose vise grips very gently.
