Tried the Head Boom MP last night. Easy to generate power and I like that it wasnt head heavy. Was getting aces with serves so was pretty happy with it. Put in my order. Haven't seen many good reviews for the Boom Pro though.
I got the BOOM MP and add 4g in the head (1g at 3hr - 1g at 9hr - 1g at 10hr - 1g at 2hr) and 4g in the handle. It’s amazing, very solid and more power controled. I use hyper G at 51lbs.
I tried the Head Boom MP earlier in the year and I was impressed by the control and feel of the racket. I ended up getting two of them, strung at 48 pounds each. They remind me of my old Head XRC of the 80's.
Great content. I'd like to see a comparision between these models and the new 2024 boom MP. Much difference?
Great minds think alike… just uploaded this exact video, weird!!😁
Wow thanks very much. Hope you and Paul are all well at Havant. @@TheTennisMentor
@@CarlPendlePhotos all good thanks! Apart from the rain!!
Hi Ashley -Thanks for the great review. I am trying to choose between the Head Boom Pro and Speed MP. I am reading lots of comments about the unpredictable stringbed in the Boom Pro so thinking more of the speed MP. What your thoughts so far after playing with both frames?
I ended up choosing the Speed. I did really enjoy the boom and personally didn’t feel like it was unpredictable, I just found that I preferred the control/power balance of the Speed. I would strongly recommend finding a retailer that offers a demo service as the choice between the two will really come down to preference..
Odd question, but what song did you use in the background here? Great content as always too!
Just found your channel. Excellent info!!! Also i like your backhand. I am debating between head Speed MP and Boom PRO, I am basically a baseliner with a bigger serve using a Pure Drive Plus strung with VS in mains and Triax in Cross. Having elbow problems as i get older ( older than 70 and 6ft 175 lbs) but very still athletic and aggressive on the court. I use to play Head rackets years ago with the Arthur Ashe Competitions but now i need to find something that will not take away too much power but give me good control Thanks and best wishes.
Do you think Head Boom PRO can be suitable for an intermediate player around 4.0 NTRP ?
I'm currently playing with Wilson Clash 100 v1 (295g) but sometimes it feels like it lacks stability when the opponent is hitting hard so I'm considering switching to Head Speed MP or Head Boom (MP or PRO). Other options I'm thinking about are Head Extreme Tour or Yonex V CORE 100. Could you give me some advice?
Also I'm reading from the Head official charts that Head Speed MP offers the same power as the Head Extreme MP, but I tried both raquets in the past and to me Head Extreme has way more power, is it true also with these new models?
Thank you!
What tension did you have them strung at? Synthetic or poly?
Poly at 52lbs
Really interested in your final comparison between Speed and Boom !!
To be honest, I’m testing the new 2024 speed and boom lines this week so I will probably make a comparison of these when they’re released!
@@TheTennisMentor I get why price is lower for actual models. Do you see major changes coming or just cosmetics?
Great video Ashley! :) I really like your reviews, so well explained and edited, looking forward to the comparision video now. Btw, have you ever tried the head extreme pro? I've just got one last week.
Thanks a lot! I haven’t (yet) but may give it a go… how have you found it?
@@TheTennisMentor I'm really happy to say that the marketing it's true. It is indeed a spin monster. I have it with an hybrid string set up at 24 kg. The feeling and the touch are great, I really like the extre power a raquet with 315 gr can give me. I was using before a wilson blade 98, definitely I'm gonna stick with this extreme pro.
When’s the comparison video for this and the speed pro coming out? Thanks in advance
Hmmm... Auxetic sounds like the old YouTek tech in my old Head Speeds... FYI I'm currently hitting with the Gravity for the last couple of years. Very headlight like the Speed but with more control and a larger sweat spot IMHO. I've not tried a Boom yet may have to try it but I think that is going backward a bit? The Boom has more power than the Speed correct? Is the control better?
Did you actually compare it with the speed pro 2022?
I am currently using the Head Boom Pro, I really like the racquet and different from previous ones I feel it has this crispy feeling when I hit the ball, maybe it is just me. Sometimes when I hit a ball and think it is too long the ball curves and goes in, did you have that too? My first time using Head racquets, so I am comparing with Yonex, Wilson and Barbolat.
Yes, I get that crispy feeling. I did find my shots going long early on but once I added more topspin that fixed it. For a 98 head, it has good spin potential!
Hi, did you find the stringbed of the Boom Pro to be a bit eratic / unpredictable? Also can you compare to the Speed Pro?
@@cd8145 I didn't get the chance to use the Speed Pro, I hurt my knee. I like the Boom Pro, but it feels like a wooden racquet a little bit, and the ball stays inside the court but it feels like he is doing lot of the job. I am not an expert but I feel like is for people who wants to rely on the racket more. It is a good racket, but has its characteristics.
Try move from cx200 tour 16x19. Which is best? Speed pro or boom pro.
I have a 2017 speed mp and looking to get either this year's speed mp or switch up to boom pro. Which one will be more preferable? I find the 17 speed mp a tad stiff and when I play the 17 speed pro, I like the heavier weight of the racquet. I played my friends boom team L and I like the comfort on it but just too light to hit any balls properly for me. Unfortunately there is no demo of the boom racquet where I live so I need to buy it without trying it first
Ashley, which is your racquet of choice?
Currently, the Speed Pro
Much diference from the previous in the pro version?
I currently have the Boom Pro. It was a bit unstable on shots but with a bit of lead, it plays much better. I'm coming from the Radical Pro 360+ which was heavier, more demanding and controlled and not forgiving on off centre shots. Could you do a video on the new Speed MP. And who won the Speed Pro giveaway ? 🙂
Where did you put the leadtape?
@@klauswinzig4997 i put it slightly above the 3 and 9.
@@enan1468 thank u
Interesting! I can imagine it felt very different to the radical!! I will have a go with the Speed MP to see if it warrants another video… It seems similar to the old Speed specs with the addition of Auxetic (which I’m enjoying!)
The giveaway is ending tomorrow!🤩
I am looking after new racket and i am coming from radical mp and pro/360 (2019) could you tell me sour experience?
Thanks for the review, excellent stuff. Do you plan to review racquets from any other brands?
Still looking forward to the comparison video with speed pro!
Would be great !
I come from a 2019 pure aero, I'm between the ezone 100 and the head boom pro, which one would you choose? Thanks a lot!!!! ❤️
What racket did you get after? I've got the 2019 babolat pure aero aswell. But thinking of changing
I like this channel but if you ever speak to the Head rep, tell him to feedback to Head HQ that they need to improve the paint jobs on their racquets as they're currently pretty meh! Contrast that with the amazing look red on the Wilson Clash v2 for for example that changes with the light!
Ashley, great presentation! With regards to Head Boom MP, which is your suggestion compaired with blade 100l? Which should be most suitable for an all around type of tennis 🎾, especially in doubles ? Thanks Adriano
Thanks Adriano! I haven’t played with the Blade I’m afraid… I would suggest contacting your local racquet specialist to demo the Boom MP. It’s a very good all rounder but to find a racket you love, you really need to try a few!
Hi Ashley - been loving your content over on IG, so pleased to come across this on YT :-) Subscribed! One quick Q though - I've been playing with the Gravity MP for a couple of years now, and absolutely love it. I am now in the market for a new racket, and am considering the Boom MP. Any key differences a beginner / lower intermediate player should be aware before pulling the trigger on this?
Hey Adam, really pleased you‘be enjoyed my content! I can’t think of any reasons why you wouldn’t enjoy the Boom MP… the new Auxetic gives it a great feel and the head shape should give you a slightly bigger sweetspot. It’s CPI is 600 vs the gravity’s 400 so should give you a bit more power! Let me know how your decision goes… good luck!
@@TheTennisMentor thanks for the reply Ashley! I'll give it a go and come back to you :-)
I play with the boom and used to play with the speed I feel like the boom gives me more power with good control but the speed gives me less power but more control so I like the boom more
I agree… I’m actually reviewing the new boom this week! Stay tuned this weekend
I absolutely agreed with you.
How do you compare the boom pro with the vcore 98?
I have head boom Wilson 108 v 2.head boom is real boom power Control light weigh.
GREAT VIDEO!
looks like a bianchi bike colours
That’s EXACTLY what I thought when first seeing it!
But the best middle ground - which I think is good for most players - is a very rare HEAD tennis racket in my opinion. CPI: 500 There are 4 tennis rackets. Gravity MPL, Speed MP, Extreme TOUR and Prestige MPL. The Prestige series is bought by few of the new trends with more spin and power, although the MPL is exceptional.
4th place: The Gravity MPL 16/20 280g 100inch - controlled and light ...? I have not tried
3rd place: Speed MP 16/19 300g 100inch is a super all-rounder but a bit power type
2nd place: Extream TOUR 16/19 305g 98inch - super spin, simple, more comfortable than Babolat (best size and weight), for someone it's better than the Prestige MPL
1 place: !!!!! Prestige MPL - the simplest, most comfortable racket. 16/19 300g 99inch (power: mid, spin: ok, contol: simple, comfort: 5 stars.) All you have to do is customize and have the right tennis string to suit your taste. It’s worth a try because it was a surprise to me. Ezon 98 is easy - but this easier.
