  • Rainy season in Japan from around mid June to early July is a very hot, humid and... rainy time of the year. That didn't stop us though! We took our new campervan to a free campsite in Yamanashi to try out cooking and camping in the van for the first time. Join us as we attempt to have a bbq, stay cozy despite the rain and enjoy Japan's nature.

Konnichi wa. That dinner really looked good... That place by the river looked spectacular.
Aimee is a very good cook. And Roy very good driver. And Ray... very good sleeper 😄😄
    Arigatô.

Haha you nailed all the roles - luckily Ray was quite good at sleeping through all that rain 😆

    Fabulous video as always,
Suggestions for name of van would include
Harry Hiace, or Harriot the chariot, ha ha
Don’t know how these names would translate in Japanese

Bonus points for the rhyming. Those will have to make the short-list!

Hi guys great to see the van is working well for you. As fun as tent camping can be having the comfort of not possibly waking up in a puddle is ideal. Really enjoyed the video, thank you for sharing it. Safe travels and best wishes to you both.

Haha totally agree with you about the tent. It's also a pain to try and dry out when the rain doesn't let up 😅 As always, thanks for watching!

What would you do if it was raining while you tried to cook?

In terms of steam, the van has a Maxx fan on the ceiling - basically a fan with a rain shield that helps to ventilate the air - so we can use that. But honestly, we do often frequent the local supermarkets where you can pick up bento boxes cooked fresh everyday. Thanks for watching! 😊

Good to see Ray with you again! What is the parking situation like at home? I understand that you have to secure a parking spot before you are allowed to buy a vehicle.

Thanks for watching! Yes sorting out parking was quite a long process 😅 We're renting a spot in a parking lot close to our apartment in Tokyo. We had to submit paperwork to our local police who inspected the carpark to make sure it was suitable. Once that was done and they gave us our parking certificate, we could buy the van. All up, from putting down a deposit to driving away with the van, it took about a month. By the way, I believe you said you were travelling to Japan in April? If so, how did it go!

@@RoyandAimee Our dog got sick so we couldn't go. She is getting better so maybe in October we can swing it. We had plans to go in 2020, but for some strange reason that didn't happen.

Oh no sorry to hear that but glad to hear she is on the mend. Hope you can get here in October then! Besides the occassional typhoon, the weather is generally really nice and clear that time of year.
