  • We're finally leaving Tokyo to go live amongst the great outdoors in Nagano Prefecture. We searched on various real estate sites like suumo, athome, homes etc, emailed the realestate agents asking for a viewing, and wrapped them all up into a video to show our top 5 that we're considering. Please help us out in the comments by sharing things that might get overlooked in the house hunting process, there's so much to think about, it's overwhelming!

I think whichever you choose, you will make it a happy home. I love the way you look adoringly at each other ❤

I think the first one was definitely the stand out with the layout, area amenities and access (which will also be better for your visitors to be able to get to you more easily).

House #1 looks great. New construction with lots of natural light and town/garden views are hard to beat. The light fixtures look interesting too, I wonder what kind of vibe it will have after dark.

Looks like House #1 is turning out to the crowd favorite! You're too right about the natural light and the views, honestly I think it's CALLING us 🤔
Wow I didn't even take proper notice of the light fixtures until you mentioned it, and had to go back and look at it 😂

It really was so much fun! But also so overwhelming with all the Japanese we had to speak/listen to during the viewings. 🫠

HOW CAN WE CHOOSE WHEN THEY'RE ALL SO CUTE?? Was there something we overlooked in any of these places? Was there one that was obviously better than the others? Please heeeeeeelp! 🤯

Hi guys I hope you’re both well? Congratulations on reaching 3K subscribers, great to see more people are finding your channel and content.
Having gone through the home hunting process ourselves, albeit my missus and I were buying but it’s the same general thing, I can understand how overwhelming it can feel, but it’s an exciting time and our personal experience was extremely positive of which I’m sure yours will also be too.
I do think you made the right decision by contacting the estate agents directly and introducing yourselves, etc… I think it gives another level of credibility to you, shows you’ve taken the time to learn the native language and that you have the ability the communicate more effectively thus making the process easier for all parties.
The most important aspect for me is the area, hearing the way you’re talking about Saku it really does hit all the key points you want and need to live comfortably.
You’ve definitely done the right thing and written down your observations for each property, I think unless you’re building you’re own home you’re very lucky to get absolutely everything you want.
It’s interesting you say about certain places not having the right ‘feel’ to it, we knew pretty much immediately that the house we ended up buying was the one we felt the most comfortable in and we ‘just knew’ it was right for us.
The first property is for me a clear winner, not having dedicated wardrobes is a tiny thing and not a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination and you can get so many different types of storage these days at very affordable prices it’s not an issue really.
The upper floor space would be perfect for storing your snowboard equipment and also hiking/camping equipment, again you can get very affordable modular shelving units that would definitely suit your needs.
I don’t think you’ve really missed anything, it sounds like you’ve built a decent rapport with the estate agents and it’s sounds like they’re very upfront about pros and cons to the areas and properties you’ve looked at.
Personally the first one would be my choice, Saku sounds like a fantastic place to live and gives you an excellent base to live and further explore from.
Thank you for sharing this process and your experiences with everyone I know you’ll make the best decision for the two of you. Best wishes to the two of you and have a wonderful weekend. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇦🇺🇯🇵😊

Yay for 3K subscribers! 🎉 A special thank you to you, our top commenter, we wouldn't be here doing this without your support!
Oh my goodness, with all the stress of trying to find a nice place to rent, I can't imagine the amount of forethought that needs to go into when considering BUYING a property. I hope the area you chose was everything you wanted it to be! :D
Thank you so much for the reassurances! We're secretly feeling pretty good about the first house too, and it's great to hear that yourself and other people can see it's charm too!
Oof, storage solutions... modular storage... shelving. So much to think about! But you're right, we have our options! We'll see what we can do to make it work!
Thank you again for all your support and lovely comments! Stay tuned for a follow up video!

@@RoyandAimee hi guys thank you so much for the lovely reply, I’m very happy to support your channel and excellent content and I hope that more people get to see all the interesting things you share with everyone. As an extra personal note I want to say thank you so much for always taking the time out of your busy lives to say hello and comment.
Buying/moving house is apparently one of the most stressful things people can go through so you’re not alone with your thoughts and they’re completely normal, it sounds like you have everything in order so I’m sure things will go smoothly for you both.
I look back to when we were buying, I was then serving in the Royal Navy on a ship with a busy schedule and was really fortunate to have an excellent financial advisor who went above and beyond to help us make things less stressful for us which was great.
Even though I knew the general area I wasn’t very familiar with the village we bought in but we’re very happy and settled here which I great.
Thank you for sharing this important life experience with everyone, I hope everything goes smoothly and that you are moved into your new home very soon. Looking forward to seeing things as they further progress. The best of wishes to you both and enjoy the rest of your weekend 😊

Sorry for the very late reply, completely missed this one! Thank you so much for the lovely comment 😊
Agreed that moving can be a stressful experience but it's great when you have people around that can help ease the burden, like the financial advisor for you. We've been very lucky with a great real estate agent who goes the extra mile to explain any difficult Japanese terminology and makes sure we're set up with everything we need, so we're grateful for that.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
