I’d like to make a point for pyrotechnics: It specifies only that it must target an area of fire. It does not state a minimum and the maximum is 5ft. by 5ft. It is also non-concentration, meaning you can have as many effects from this spell present as you like. And of course, because of that first thing I mentioned... *YOU CAN TURN A TORCH INTO A FLASHBANG*

Don’t sleep on modify memory. It’s a “this never happened. No it happened exactly how we wanted it to happen and you like us and we did what you wanted us to do and you just promised to give me something like 5 seconds ago” spell that is a solve all for all difficult role play encounters
Foresight is amazing! It's an 8 hour buff to literally everything and a debuff to things trying to hurt. Advantage is awesome, and just always having it for everything for 8 hours is great! (Stick it on the Elf warlock with the elven accuracy feat and watch the critical hits come rollin in)

6:28 I’m pretty sure Plant Growth is saying it’s like a double difficult terrain, costing 4 times as much per 5 foot square (making one move cost 20 feet)
Psychic Scream is great because its an intellegence save, and if you're fighting a group of anything that isn't wizards, they'll probably not be good at intellegence saves.
Int saves are rare, at least for humanoids. Beasts and monsters on the other hand, it depends. I could see this being used on a pack of Allosauris in Chult.
This is really helpful! I play Bard, but I struggle with all the options for my character... v_v Having a rating and description of why stuff works or doesn’t really helps weed out the bad from the good for what I’m looking for! Thank you! :D

I use cloud of daggers like a budget magic missile Also good for when you've got allies who can combo with you to keep the enemy in the area Worst case scenario, you do a burst of reliable, unavoidable magical slashing damage
Well put. It holds down a hallway or doorway pretty well too. Also it gets +2d4 above level 2. That's a lot of slashing damage. At level 5 that's a 10d4 for one minute in a 5x5x5 foot area. "When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 2d4 for each slot level above 2nd."
I feel like it'd be more effective on dark vision denizens. Fiend: I see you little... why'd you light a candle? Bard: Stop me if you heard this one, so a Drow walks out of a Bar at high noon.
@@kylethomas9130 the effect is exactly the same as the Darkness spell, except for the differences I noted. The lack of concentration is a BIG deal to a Bard, freeing him to use his concentration on something else.
Mending is useful in a "planning for failure" context. Theres very little worse than being a bard and popping a string on your harp mid dungeon and losing all your music and or somatic focus magic Longstrider lets you be pack mule without slowing the party down when trying to cart your loot home. Speak with animal is good for being a pseudo tracker. Cloud of Daggers. Area denial is always useful in narrow dungeon/castle hallways Locate animals/plants: if your dm is getting survivalist on you invest in this Nondetection: For Escort missions or "steal the bad guys thing but not break it" situations. Can also be used to smuggle magic weapons in for assasinations. Hallucinatory terrain: good for getting away from dumb goblin hoards or for dms Mordenkainen's sword: one of the best dps spells ever. Lets you het in extra hits or do both attack and heal in the same turn
Mordenkainen's sword is a 7th level spell, so you get to cast it exactly once per day (unless you're lvl 20), it competes with other also very strong spells, it competes with your concentration slot, and it uses the bonus actions that were already mentioned to be cluttered with uses on Bards. You can also already heal and attack on the same turn using bonus action spells like (Mass) Healing Word. If I _really_ wanted a caster Bard with several attacks in a turn, I'd much rather take a Magical Secrets Spiritual Weapon (no concentration and a bonus action cast instead of action) or Swift Quiver (several extra attacks), both of which also have the benefit of several possible casts per day AND are available a lot earlier
Looking forward to Sorcerer, Cleric and Ranger spell videos In my campaigns the Ranger breaks every encounter they meet and 2 of them are able to TPK my players at half their current level, so that's fun
If anyone still doubts the powers of the Bard Class, I recommend you look up the Owl House episode entitled Eda's Requiem. You'll see just how powerful bard magic can be, after that
I had a campaign where someone in the party released a big bad by detecting magic, finding a magic chair, and dispelling the magic on it without a second thought. That was an amusing day.
Dissonant whispers is awesome for fighting big single target enemies. Not only do you get 3d6 damage on a failed save, you can also trigger attacks of opportunity for your front liners when the target runs away.
I'm basically the party healer, so Cure Word, Healing Word, and Lesser Restoration are in my repertoire and of course I'll be grabbing Raise Dead at a later point. A single dip into Draconic Sorcerer gives Valor Bard a lot more options.
With Plant growth, just times it by 5, its just explaining how its more strong rough terrain, for every 1 ft you move, you have to spend 4ft of movement, aka, for every 5ft you move, you must spend 20ft of movement
That's true but stupid since 5e presumes everyone is using grids that incorporate 5-foot movement units. Just saying that every five feet of movement costs 20 feet would be so much simpler and still true.
@@Vherstinae its consistant with many of the other times they mention rough terrain being "2ft for every 1ft", i agree that 5ft would be easier, but in the large scheme of things it doesnt change anything
If the enemy is wearing a metal helmet with metal face covering, the Bard can cast Heat Metal and literally melt the enemy’s face off with a wicked lute solo.

Blindness/deafness, in an eberron campaign, we faced a flying dragon like creature that had no sight and used its hearing to locate us. Was told what it was but can’t remember. Our bard and our monk combined to one shot it. Monk ran at a flat cliff wall and as the “dragon” swooped in for the kill, bard cast deafness and it fails the save. It got confused and slammed head first into the cliff wall and died instantly.
So my groups has put all of the recent features of the newer Revised class features UA into effect, meaning casters now have Spell Versatility. THANK GOD. This makes the bard i'm playing soooo much more fun! That 1 spell makes a huge difference. It makes me want to play a sorcerer now too. The only issue is that i can't incorporate it into the Artificer. Maybe i can actually, but we will see.
Synaptic static is so much more than fireball. Remember how much you liked bane? it is like a bane spell, that doesn't require concentration, that targets more enemies, that also gets a fireball thrown on top, except the fireball deals psychic damage, so way fewer things are immune. The bard has a lot of great concentration spells, any spell that doesn't require concentration is at a premium.
Foresight - Better than you think if you throw it on the fighter, so that they have a greater chance of critting all day long. Saw it used in one of nat19's games, and the guy it was cast on proceeded to get like a half-dozen crits over the course of the fight. It was absurd and beautiful.
I love these! Have to say, Foresight took me off guard... a spell to make your Rogue or Paladin an even more nigh-invulnerable death monster who can't miss all day anyday doesn't seem super weak to me, at least to have as one of your Ninth-spells (being a Bard). I know it takes away your "do a big thing" slot, but it's guaranteed to work for those eight hours and won't be counterspelled with a lucky roll. It's also not concentration, and isn't visible to dispel-happy enemies unless they're using Detect Magic in a high-level encounter like a dweeb. I haven't played a Bard at high level, so I don't know how well that works in practice, but it seems... really strong, and very difficult to counter.
Man plant growth got a 1...I can't tell you how many times I've shut down encroaching enemies with it haha. 5 foot over movement = 20ft its sooo good. Not to mention for role playing purposes you can really help local farms and forests going through droughts.
So funny story about Otto's Irresistible Dance: I was playing a game with me (bard), a rogue, and a few others don't matter very much to the story. We went up against a creature that had 218 health and could teleport once per turn for free (probably homebrew). I casted Otto's on it in the first round and because the dancing didn't restrict it from teleporting, the DM didn't make it save on its turns. Now here comes the rogue with a magic crossbow that does like an extra 2d4 damage or something (again, probably homebrew) and because she had advantage on every attack, she was just throwing out Sneak Attacks that were doing like 40 damage a round. With the added help of our warlock's Eldritch Blasts, a few arrows from the fighter, and a brief wall of fire from yours truly, the thing was dead before it even took its third turn. So yeah, don't underestimate Otto's
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Seriously since I only have PHB keeping track of what spell certain classes do or don’t have is a PAIN. I tend to rely on wikidot but sometimes the spell links don’t bloody work
I know the purpose of the spell but arent most weapons handles wood? At most wood with a metal tang. A mace with a wood shaft for example would just be like giving the mace a fire damage bonus. Maybe roll to see how much damage it does to the handle then it catchs fire and burns you.
Fun story about Leomund's Tiny Hut. In a homebrew campaign a few years back, I was playing my infamous Goblin Bard named Badric. We had gotten to a sketchy town, and while the rest of the party paid money to stay in the least sketchy inn in town like chumps, I cast Leomund's Tiny Hut in the alley behind some trash and slept there because Goblin. Also, I didn't trust the townsfolk (which would later prove to be justified). BUT. The DM didn't hear me say the bit about casting LTH. All he heard was that I was crashing in the alley behind some trash. So later that night he informs me that I wake up to being stabbed in the chest a la Prancing Pony style. When I asked how that was possible due to, y'know my spell, we realized he hadn't heard me. But, the guy doing the stabbing was the top assassin of the bad guys, so it just made him seem like thay much more of a bad ads. So we rolled with it. So Badric woke up in the middle of the night with a fancy dagger in his chest, looked the guy in the eyes and called him a dick, then rolled over and went back to sleep. The next morning, the dagger was still there in his chest, so he pulled it out and showed it to the other party members. It became his favoured weapon. . . Also, we ended up allying with said assassin later. And every time I cast LTH, I make sure the DM knows. Lol
So mending I actually had many good uses for. Example for one was our Rogue got a Nat 1 on an attack roll with his crossbow which luckily he was not far from me when the DM decided the best result would be for the crossbow to break. So when my turn came up I turned to the direction and asked the rogue if I could see what was broken, then I used mending on his crossbow fixing it and getting him back in the fight. Weapons break and so will other things like armor depending on how the DM decides to go about with critical hits and bad rolls.
Youve never needed the teleportation circle spell? My party uses it constantly to get around. Once youve managed to get the combinations to a few cities is super useful fast travel.
@@houndofculann1793 Yes..., I knew that, I only stated that there are plenty of settings, where it is not as usefull as it is in settings where it is common to have cirrcles in all major cities
@@Ludens_H that is of course true. I meant that it's not really the spell's fault if the GM doesn't want to create a setting where it's used =D To me it's very logical that if a spell like this existed, it would see pretty wide usage among aristocracy at the least
Im not sure you'er gonna see this BUT an important reminder: Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster both borrow spells from the Wizard spell list. Although they should probably not be covered in their own thing, it's still good to MAYBE reference them in the Wizard one, or do a combined one for both those subclasses. (also warlock stuff can be a part of the Blood Hunter but that's not a core class and as such I dont expect ya to think about)
We almost need a list of 'forbidden' spells. Where class features and feats allow you to add spells outside the average base class. I remember an argument to use one such feat to learn, Find Familiar, a Wizard exclusive, to have an owl use the help action, and flyby, to gain advantage on endless attacks.
If you took counterspell as one of your magical secrets, then glibness turns you into a beast that can counter 9th-level spells with a 3rd-level slot. Also, I speak from experience when I say that foresight is the 9th-level spell when you are playing a melee caster like a bladelock or a sword bard, and if you cast it on a martial character, then that creature they are fighting is already dead.
Man, I’m quick. Do you think you’ll do a recommended list for magical secrets later? Edit: Also, no one talks about how you can use Prestidigitation to make someone poop their pants.
Forcecage is insanely strong, anything that doesn't have a good ranged attack or teleportation just dies, no save. Doesn't matter if it is Demon lord, or whatever. Like this literally defeats 2/3 of the demon princes in one move, without a save. Those are the most powerful demons in existence.
Old vid, but thought I should mention since Crown of Madness charms the target as well as all the other effects, it cannot attack you even if you choose no target.

Thanks for reminding me why I love bards. I had forgotten, or maybe never fully realized. You get so caught up in fireballs and big sword swing that you forget the pure satisfaction of just being able to make that thing trying to kill you fall over laughing hysterically while you eat peanuts you pocketed at the last tavern you visited.

plant growth if bloody amazing. ever thought "it sure would be nice if this giant couldn't get to me and not be able to smash my face in." then take this spell. huge area of very hard retain quartering speed AND can stack with regular difficult terain. if you want to just fuck over an encounter by making non of the enemies be able to get to you in time use plant growth.
also farmers will fucking love you.
I have a Druid with that spell that separate from the party to help out the farmers cause part of farmland got burn in war
And it makes the heads of those who die from it EXPLODE.
Int saves are rare, at least for humanoids. Beasts and monsters on the other hand, it depends. I could see this being used on a pack of Allosauris in Chult.

A new series! I’m hyped to show it to my players!
Plant growth is awesome as a ranger. Cast the spell and casually stroll up to your struggling enemies as they desperately try to get away.
I use cloud of daggers like a budget magic missile
Also good for when you've got allies who can combo with you to keep the enemy in the area
Worst case scenario, you do a burst of reliable, unavoidable magical slashing damage
I think cloud of daggers is underrated considering it's a guaranteed minimum of at least 4d4 on 1 target. It's the magic missile of bards.
Well put. It holds down a hallway or doorway pretty well too. Also it gets +2d4 above level 2. That's a lot of slashing damage. At level 5 that's a
10d4 for one minute in a 5x5x5 foot area.
"When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 2d4 for each slot level above 2nd."
I feel like you could kill wizards pretty fast with this and a hold person spell.
Pyrotechnics: Darkness that devils can't see through and doesn't require concentration.
@@ChristnThms except I think you can omit allies from the effect, on top of the factors you listed I think it'd be better than darkness.
@@kylethomas9130 nope. Creates the heavily obscured condition. Just like Darkness. No concentration.
Mending is useful in a "planning for failure" context. Theres very little worse than being a bard and popping a string on your harp mid dungeon and losing all your music and or somatic focus magic
Longstrider lets you be pack mule without slowing the party down when trying to cart your loot home.
Speak with animal is good for being a pseudo tracker.
Cloud of Daggers. Area denial is always useful in narrow dungeon/castle hallways
Locate animals/plants: if your dm is getting survivalist on you invest in this
Nondetection: For Escort missions or "steal the bad guys thing but not break it" situations. Can also be used to smuggle magic weapons in for assasinations.
Hallucinatory terrain: good for getting away from dumb goblin hoards or for dms
Mordenkainen's sword: one of the best dps spells ever.
Wait I'm early, woo 3:00 am Bard class!
Looking forward to Sorcerer, Cleric and Ranger spell videos
In my campaigns the Ranger breaks every encounter they meet and 2 of them are able to TPK my players at half their current level, so that's fun
Last time I was this early, 4 edition was still relevant
4 edition was never relevant. When it came out everyone still preferred 3.5
Magical secrets, just take Ranger and Pala lvl 5 spells aswell as a Pegasus
Ah, yes..."Find Greater Steed".
I enjoy riding a dire wolf into battle. That is heavy metal.

How fun is that I decided to make a new bard character today good timing
Blindness/deafness, in an eberron campaign, we faced a flying dragon like creature that had no sight and used its hearing to locate us. Was told what it was but can’t remember. Our bard and our monk combined to one shot it. Monk ran at a flat cliff wall and as the “dragon” swooped in for the kill, bard cast deafness and it fails the save. It got confused and slammed head first into the cliff wall and died instantly.
I was about to yell at him that 6:04 isn’t a bomb because it has too much words but...its a bomb
Yes, Santa definitely wants snow..... nothing else.....
There is that UA class feature revision thing, some of which adds new spell options and the ability to switch out a single spell each long rest.
Glibness is actually pretty damn great on a bard (or any other charisma caster) considering that counterspell/dispel magic rolls are ability checks.
Can't wait for your sorcerer spell guide.
I tend to rely on wikidot but sometimes the spell links don’t bloody work
Heat Metal: Overuse at your own peril, lest every npc in your campaign suddenly decides that bone armor is fashionable again at the same time.

I know the purpose of the spell but arent most weapons handles wood? At most wood with a metal tang. A mace with a wood shaft for example would just be like giving the mace a fire damage bonus. Maybe roll to see how much damage it does to the handle then it catchs fire and burns you.
@@robertbogan225 You can do it to armour, too. So that warrior wearing plate mail is just out of a fight.
Lol
The vids a little glitchy bro
Memedrop Nothing I could do about it, unfortunately. My computer is getting worn out.
I used the video to make my Bard. Thank you.
I require my entire party to take "legend lore" just so I can go off
shout out to davvy calling lesser restoration greater, and greater lesser

Youve never needed the teleportation circle spell? My party uses it constantly to get around. Once youve managed to get the combinations to a few cities is super useful fast travel.
But there are no circles in many settings though
@@Ludens_H There are as many or few as the GM wants. And after that, players can make their own although that does take a very long time
@@houndofculann1793 Yes..., I knew that, I only stated that there are plenty of settings, where it is not as usefull as it is in settings where it is common to have cirrcles in all major cities
@@Ludens_H that is of course true. I meant that it's not really the spell's fault if the GM doesn't want to create a setting where it's used =D To me it's very logical that if a spell like this existed, it would see pretty wide usage among aristocracy at the least

Cloud of Daggers sounds badass for a hallway or doorway.
Hey thanks this video helps out my ideas on dnd bard spells

BUT an important reminder:
Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster both borrow spells from the Wizard spell list.
