  • I admittedly didn't dig that deep into who should have won, as long as LeBron is out I'm happy and you can give the MVP to quite a few people without me being upset. But Shaq was distasteful and didn't even have his facts straight...the very facts he used as the basis for his argument.
Credit to @DaCommishDude for the doing a great job on the first video I saw on the topic and for the clips I inserted here from his edit.

I don’t want to say it, but a big part of the dismissal of Joker and Luka is a thinly veiled hatred of elite level white players.
It’s nothing new. In my lifetime, there were similar things said about absolutely electrifying players such as Larry Bird and Steve Nash. Stop me when I’m lying.

    • @hoki0624

That's probably because Chuck has long accepted the fact that part of his failures during his attempts at getting a ring were internal. MJ's assessment of him was he didn't have the drive to win, and maybe Charles realized that in retrospect. He's currently okay where he stands in NBA history as a player because nothing can threaten his position among the greats any longer.
Shaq, on the other hand, feels his position as one of the greatest centers in the NBA is being threatened by today's best, so he goes out of his way to downplay or even dismiss Jokic's accomplishments.

When he seen the writing on the wall, he left for Dwade and Miami. Rinse, wash and repeat!! He took every max deal that came his way, without ever putting in work to improve his game. FINALLY he runs around referring to himself as G13 classification, The most dominant, etc. all while demanding his respect!!He has played with DWade, Kobe, Lebron, Nash, etc. he has played with multiple All stars and hall of famers! There was an obvious push to place Nikola Jokic in the same or similar context of Larry "Legend" Bird in winning three MVP awards in succession, however, Larry Bird is technically the NBA player that truthfully won the award by effort for three years consistently. The media in the latest era attempted to relay that Nikola Jokic could be the first to win the award in the same or similar succession however, the Center position was met with assertive competition that third year. Nikola Jokic didn't win it three years in succession because Joel Embiid did technically rival the stat line of Nikola Jokic thereby winning the award within the year that many will debate Nikola Jokic almost did. Plus Larry Bird will always be Larry Bird FOREVER!!! Three MVP awards in succession will always be difficult in the NBA because of whom holds that record and the quality of man Larry "Legend" Bird will always represent on the court and in interviews pertaining to basketball. (People just rock with Larry "Legend" and the #33 jersey FOREVER😎!!) That team and the Boston Celtics are a representation of cutting down racism and exposing it as immature thought process that can lead into remedial behavior not expected of our specie growth within the entirety of it. To those that think Shaquille O'Neal was babied in the NBA. Shaquille O'Neal wasn't babied in the NBA or prior to the NBA by his step father. In fact of truth Shaquille O'Neal was always told "No!" in reference to things he wanted to do knowing he could do them. Players such as Kobe Bryant were in fact given the green light due to them having favoritism from the league being a standard scoring position at the Shooting Guard position and being from NBA nepotism. So "Shaq" was NOT babied. He was placed into a role of receiving pain as the "Hack a Shaq" method was introduced and referee calls weren't offered to "Shaq" as they were offered to shorter or less massive NBA, and College basketball players at the Center position or other positions (To call a complete fair and level game.). This strategy is in keeping with a slaving tactic utilized by slave masters in that the call wasn't given on account that Shaquille "Shaq" O'Neal could take the abuse due to his size, and in return on his own account Shaquille "Shaq" O'Neal decided to dish it out to all and any. WHICH IS WHY THE NBA NO LONGER HAS CENTERS WILLING TO BE POST DOMINANT, "Shaq" in return went so destructive to opponents in the paint that regardless of pigmentation/complexion no one wanted to be physical against him again in the post. That's his contribution to the NBA if you truly look at it from a historic perspective or vantage point. He too in turn destroyed the game along side Michael Jordan but that was obvious to everyone when he debuted and broke entire basketball rim reinforcement post instead of the backboard. They technically had to re-engineer the entire frame of the support beams in professional NBA basketball because of his dominance. But the lesson is call a fair game regardless of an athletes advantages over another, and if you need to, be less personally invested in the athletes advantages over any including yourself. That advantage is that mans gift to the sport and you will arrive at the inclination of how you too are that same or similar style of human in your own particular way.😎

I read within these comments that Shaquille O'Neal was being racist by his opposing opinion about Nikola Jokic winning a third MVP Award over S.G.A.. The true answer is no, technically, he wasn't and it isn't. Bill Russell held true to speaking his truth on camera and put his effort in to make strides not only for African Americans brought by the Atlantic Slave Trade but for the entire specie of humanity.😎

Shaq is still bitter about twice losing the MVP to Nash, so he’s now aiming that vitriol at Jokic (with this recent MVP outcome reminding him of when he, too, was “robbed” by a white player). To make it worse, Jokic is also a center; and with all these accolades he keeps accruing (and still with at least 6 great-to-MVP-level years left in him), people will amp up the discussions about his placement amongst all-time centers.
And come on, there’s obviously a thinly-veiled issue of race in play. To Shaq (and a lot of the “old generation” players), much of Jokic’s laudation is due to him being a great player who’s white. This is nothing new. People did it with Bird, they did it to Nash, and now they’re doing it to Jokic.

Jokic is class personified. He always displays proper decorum. Gives his coaches and teammates their well deserved credit when they win. Never makes excuses when they lose. Never gets into a war of words when he is criticized. Instead, he uses the negativity and fuels his inner fire and competivenes to make himself and his teammates play harder and better. He epitomizes the meaning of the MVP. Who wouldn't want to play with or coach him. Have you ever seen him displaying negative and condescending body language, or rolling his eyes at his teammates. And a bad game for him is 21point, 9 rebounds, and only 6 assists. Any other center in the league with those numbers would be demanding a max contract. He exceeds those numbers easily, and is completely unselfish and unassuming.

Shaq does bug the piss out of me for one reason: While he played, though he was a beast (esp young Shaq), he was lazy. Drove Kobe CRAZY. Didn't work hard, only cared about partying. Rather than developing skill, or working on his free throws, he mindlessly relied solely on size/brute force advantage. Now that he's RETIRED... suddenly he's so into his pride, and legacy and NBA status. Why didn't he care when he played? Kobe cared. Picture Shaq and Tim Hardaway trading bodies. Tim would have been insanely good, because he had actual basketball skill. Shaq would not have made the G league. When you only rely on size advantage and ignore skill development, you're not good, you just won the genetics lottery.
