[4K] Driving from Indio to Palm Springs via CA-111 in Riverside County, California USA

- State Route 111 (SR 111) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California. It is the main north-south route and retail corridor through the Coachella Valley, a part of the Colorado Desert in the southeastern corner of the state and a famous resort destination. It also runs through the Imperial Valley, and along the eastern shore of the Salton Sea. Its southern terminus is at the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in Calexico, and its northern terminus is at Interstate 10 at Whitewater.
SR 111 enters the southeast corner of the Coachella Valley as a two-lane highway. It used to run concurrently with SR 86 in Coachella, but SR 86 has since been moved to a newer expressway alignment, which was formerly named SR 86S. SR 111 continues northwest as a major arterial road, four lanes or wider, through Indio, La Quinta, Indian Wells, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Cathedral City. As it approaches this area, the northbound traffic is on Indian Canyon Road, and the southbound is on Palm Canyon Road. An alternate Route runs on Gene Autry Trail while mainline SR 111 continues west on Vista Chino Drive. Continuing west from Cathedral City, the highway enters Palm Springs, then swings north and then west to bypass downtown, while SR 111 Business passes through the congested downtown area. The highway widens from an arterial road to a divided expressway as it exits Palm Springs just northwest of San Rafael Drive. It ends at an interchange with I-10 near the foot of San Jacinto Peak, just east of the San Gorgonio Pass.

Living in the desert must be great. The light, the mountains, and if you want, turn left, leave the highway and after less than a mile you are in perfect solitude and peace.

Born and raised in Indio, still live here too. Ain’t much to do and it’s hot as hell 9 months out of the year, but I would never leave. The festivals they have are the only exciting thing about the Coachella valley lol

I've lived in the valley and wish you had an 80's video to compare it to. Half of what you're seeing wasn't there when I moved here. Beautiful area to live and visit.
I lived and worked there from 1974 to 2000 and even in that 26-year span an incredible amount of empty land was filled in.
your work is excellent - i notice the font you chose and the drop shadow - looks very sharp - that the graphic in lower left changes exactly as you cross into a new city - your driving is good, and footage so clear and sharp
Will be retiring FROM Florida to the Coachella Valley upon retirement soon. Give me desert, mountains and bright blue skies any day. Can’t wait. 😁
not to mention the beaches and beach cities like newport and oceanside/carlsbad. nice little 2hr drive from coachella and its a fun drive at that. California has the best scenery period. currently my wife and I are in Illinois and its so flat and boring out this way! we're ready to go back home to San Diego

Where did you move off to? The area is getting more popular unfortunately for locals because we love the quietness when the snowbirds go home for the season. I hope they stop the building. We need this area to stay charming.

I moved back to San diego. It is so expensive and overcrowded. Husband and I are saving for a down-payment on a home. So hopefully palm desert or cathedral city will be it in the next 3 years

I am a Canadian wishing I could move to Palm desert or Indio. Where I live it is damp in the winter, so even though it doesn't get cold here like the rest of the country it still feels cold. It also gets hot here in the summer, not as hot as there, but the the humidity makes it feel hotter than it is. I prefer dry more consistent weather and less rain.

I have Super Enjoyed, driving this almost exact drive, but from Monroe on, all the way through, even turning at the 7 11 Vista Chino, then left down the Palm Springs strip, over the last seven years as a Snowbird from Canada, we have driven this route possibly well over 500 times. I love to cruise and that is one of my favourite's. Thank you! for recording it without music and letting the road sounds come through.....By the way we were down there at the time you filmed it and I was looking for our SUV:) ............can you please advise us what time of day it was? Keep on Cruising.........and Producing!

The price you pay for a house you can buy three houses elsewhere and you’re surrounded by desert hotness bombs vacancy no multi culture no melting pot one of one each kind of store one mall. No matter how you put it it’s racially divided between whites and hispanics. The only time people have fun is at the fucking casino and that’s when the Indians are laughing at us.

I’ve lived here for 15 years and currently still am this is not the place to grow up nor live, hardly anything to do, hot as can be for 8 months out of the year, looks cool at first but give it a week and you’ll be disappointed, there’s hiking, swimming, shopping, like 6 parks, bars, and that’s really it and if you have a truck places to off road. Also 80% of elderly are rude af. Don’t move here you’ll regret it 1,000 percent
And for an apartment 1 bed room one bath is $1200 minimum, 2 bed room 2 bath is 1500 easy, and to rent a house is 2500 easily (some might disagree on my opinion but it’s all preference) but don’t get me wrong I have had fun here but not as much fun as people think you could have here the only bright side is Coachella fest is here

Once you get a red light on 111, you'll get red lights more consistently there after.... From my experience.
I started noticing in 2006 that’s when lights started getting like that. I think it’s metered.
