Correction to this video on the Los Frailes neighborhood- the snapshot of the map is incorrect. Sorry everyone
The neighborhood in SMA is called Villa de Los Frailes
Loved the tour and info.
Mariana, thank you for presenting so many neighborhoods as well as rental information. Very helpful.
It’s my pleasure Colleen! I want everyone to see there is a lot of variety of budgets in Mexico
thank you, as someone who plans to visit in the fall for 2 months (additional month in Guanajuato) this video made me realize the benefit of hiring a driver for an entire day to familiarize myself with all the neighborhoods. SMA is really looking like my favorite colonial town.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
If you're in need of a private driver in Guanajuato or in other states, please consider our COMPLETE Mexico Relocation Guide we have a variety of private drivers we recommend mexicorelocationguide.com/guide/
So beautiful. I can’t wait to visit.
Glad you liked it :)
Thank you for the information. San Miguel de Allende played an important role in the Mexican Independence war not the Mexican revolution. That conflict was much later.
Great video!👍🏽
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it
Great info once again!
Muchas gracias chicos
Thank you so much. Great info!
Glad you found it to be helpful. Feel free to subscribe to get new video notifications :)
Thank you. If one could afford it would be nice to have a tiny bare-bones studio in town for late nights. With a spacious tranquil place way out in the inexpensive outskirts. Now I know what the inside of the "Citi market" looks like too. Have heard so much about it.
Thanks for watching- yes! you could totally find a tiny studio in the center of town for not a lot of money

Thanks a lot Robin and Marianne
Thank you Nicole!
Thank you

Just stumbled upon your useful website/UA-cam Channel. Plan to retire in Mexico in a couple years and these are super helpful! I'm thinking it might be best to do a year in SMA or Ajijic while I get my footing and work on my Spanish, then move to somewhere less ex-paty, such as Oaxaca. Does that sound reasonable?
Hi Jeri
Yeap! Many people do that. Move to a more expat saturated city to make the transition easier
Then they move elsewhere when they feel more comfortable
Some stay in the same city after a while too. It all depends on you 😀
I think I will enjoy the noises in certain parts of Mexico because it will keep me company. Ha ha. I'm sure the people in Mexico completely behave different than folks in the US. I'm looking forward to visiting when the planets aligns up right for me. Thanks for sharing!
The noises are great because it shows you there is life happening! I personally love it and it makes me feel safer.
@@MexicoRelocationGuide That's awesome! 👍
Can you do something similar for neighborhoods heading north out of centro, across the river, please. Or is that not considered San Miguel proper anymore?
I've been waiting for a video that explains the neighborhoods in SMDA. However, I wish you would have mentioned the highlights of each one or what makes it unique from the others.
Hi JR- we highlighted some of the things that make them unique. To be more detailed, I'd suggest taking a relocation tour :)

Loved seeing the neighborhoods. Los Frailes looks very quiet and love that public transportation is nearby. How is the public transportation system there?
The public transportation system is very good if you are willing to take some time to learn it. There are a variety of private buses known as colectivos that take you from one end of town to the other.
Thank you very much. Very nice video 😀 I wonder about country side rental or property for sale ?? or at least on the suburbs.
There are a lot of developments popping out in the country on the way to Celaya or in the highway to Queretaro.
In all price ranges too
Google Zirandaro in San Miguel de Allende 😀
Thanks for the veterinarian recommendation! We hope to relocate with cats.
You’re welcome

Hi, thanks for the video. You provided examples & rental price ranges for all neighborhoods except San Antonio. Can you give the price range for that area? Thank you
It’ll be very similar to Los Frailes
Just looked at the US State Dept Travel Guidance for Mexico by state. Googling Guanajuato is helpful too.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to that site. The whole country has been on the do not travel or reconsider travel list forever. But once you are here you realize how peaceful it actually is
I’m disappointed you did not include rental examples for San Antonio. Overall, an informative video.
Well, then that means you’ll have to visit! 😉
Thank you for this video. Is SMA a pet friendly city? I've read that Lake Chapala is really pet friendly. But I haven't seen anything about other areas. Thanks
Yes- San Miguel de Allende is very pet friendly.
Hi, great video but I can't find the "Los Frailes" neighborhood on Google Maps. We are planning on being in San Miguel in August for a month and wanted to check out this and other neighboods you mentioned. Thanks
You can Google it and it should come up 😉 or if you’d prefer you can hire Robin to be your guide mexicorelocationguide.com/tours/san-miguel-de-allende-relocation-tour/
we are in Centro visiting. Can you take us to the Guadiana neighborhood? Are there any open houses ?
Thank you for this video, Mariana. My wife and I are planning to retire in Mexico soon, and were leaning toward Merida, but she LOVES this town much more. We will be in touch. Thanks. BTW, she was born in Mexico, but I am American. We have been married for over 30 years and lived in Pilsen in Chicago, so I learned Spanish and know the food, music, culture and family-orientation. We also want to volunteer and help people. We will be in touch.
Try them both out so you can feel what each one is like 👍🏼
@@MexicoRelocationGuide Good point. Thanks, again.
I was wondering if you could do some videos on golf courses in San Miguel de Allende. Gracias
It’s been noted
@@MexicoRelocationGuide Thank you
Man I remember visiting 15 years ago and everything was cheap. of course I was from the area and didn't have to live as a tourist but there were places I couldn't even get to because it was pricey already. if I ever go back I know I don't have to pay rent because I live just 25 minutes away.
Hello dear thank you for this tutorial video can I find mussels to eat in San Miguel I can't live without them lol
Yes! There’s great seafood restaurants and seafood markets
the neighborhoods we recommend are
Centro
Guadaloupe
Guadiana
San Antonio
and
Los Frailes
Which one is YOUR favorite?
Los Frailes - beautiful houses that don't look like they came out of a cookie-cutter.
@@elizabethacker great choice! We love all of them but you def get a lock more house for your money in Los Frailes
More costs & properties. Also, could you do a video chat on the pros & cons of using a rental agent, por favor?
Hi Susan- this video explains the pros and cons of using a rental agent ua-cam.com/video/Y47P2s13D1k/v-deo.html

Hola! Wonderful information.First time there this March and wanted to sell my house and move there! The link to find out how to contact Robin takes me to a photo of San Miguel. How do we contact her?
Gracias! Viva La Mexico!!
Hi there
Here is the tours page :) mexicorelocationguide.com/tours/
Why the jump to Los Frailles in Celaya at the end of this video? Celaya is an hour car ride away from San Miguel, isn't it?
Los frailes is a neighborhood in San Miguel de Allende
@Mexico Relocation Guide have a detailed look at the map used to highlight Los frailes...it's a map of Celaya 🫢
FYI…
It’s Guadalupe.
Overall a good video. Downside, towards the end in San Antonio, rents are not given and after that rents are shown In pesos only.
Pesos are the currency of Mexico
Imagine that! Why are the prices inconsistent, in the first part of the video prices are given in dollars and then changed to pesos.
So, the map that you show, and also what I get when I search on google maps, is that Los Frailes is in Celaya - over an hour away from San Miguel de Allende. Is this really the neighbourhood you intended to profile, or is there one in SMA?
There's one in San Miguel
@@carlosvillegas6113 can you tell me where? What streets? I can’t find it on google maps.
@@heatherkembel1190 I don't know the exact location but I saw a video about Los frailes and I did got interested so next time I visit San Miguel I deffenetly going to visit that neighborhood, sorry I couldn't answer your question.
Principal de los Frailes

But I bet you the rentals are up this year.
What the most affordable locations in San Miguel for single women?
It really all depends on the size of the house, the condition it is in, who rents it from you, and a lot of variables. However a good rule of thumb is that the further away from centro, the more affordable
Another question, we are looking to stay in SMDA for about a month. what is the best source to find a place to rent ? airbnb possibly ? We are looking for a 2 bedroom 2 bath with a good rooftop view.
Depends on how long you’re staying. If only a month then Airbnb or Booking.com
Iw😅o😊
The Mexican Revolution and the Mexican Independence wars are not the same. La Comer and CityMarket are traditional supermarkets in every single city in the entire country of Mexico - hahaha, they are not "Norte Americano" supermarkets 😂😂
Hi dear are they jews or Indians living here in San Miguel
How is the plumbing in the older neighborhoods. Can you, umm, flush your toilet paper?
In many older neighborhoods the houses have probably been remodeled and therefor have modern plumbing
It’s disappointing to see everyone wearing masks ,is this mandatory there. Thank you
Yes- for many shops and places it is still mandatory
You need to check your spelling!
Nope- that’s the correct spelling
