Sorry this video is so late. First there was an unforeseen delay, then I was sick for 2 weeks, then when I finally got it uploaded, it was copyright claimed and blocked. But at long last, it's finally public! Hope you guys like it. Also, are there any other mythology movies or shows you'd like me to review?
Omg yes. I love your take on mythology, specifically the hilarious way you express it. If you taught mythology like this to students, they'd ace any test or assignment.

Agree that means she knows how to fight, you’re not the daughter of Nike, who is the Goddess of Victory. Now if she was daughter of the goddess of victory then that would make much more sense, but she just the daughter of Athena

Hades being a disgruntled, overworked manager of the underworld with "inlaw" problems instead of the devil was one of my favorite parts... but hey, we couldn't even have a wise Wise Girl
And it's also specifically said that Persephone is extremely loyal to Hades in the book series she does actually enjoy her time and hell that in Hades with him and the reason the thing that gets him out of the underworld is a pearl specifically a pearl is because it was given to him by his father Poseidon.

Once in school we had to write a report on this book and one kid got lazy, just watched this movie, and wrote is report in that. He failed so hard, it was hilarious.
The last actual fantasy book I read in school was in 5th grade, and it was the Narnia books. I wish I was able to read anything fantasy again, since that is my favorite genre.
I did the same with The Outsiders in middle school XD I couldn't be bothered with the book so did my best to just watch and remember the movie XD In my high school class, we had the complete opposite XD It was an English class and had to be the start of the year because it was very early on; I'm talking first weeks of September early. We were doing a whole like- week or two on Greek mythology. Making posters of certain Gods/Goddesses, reading excerpts from the myths and stories, so on; and the last day(s) of it, we were watching this movie. Now, I haven't read the books prior to seeing the movie so I absolutely do not mind this movie and it's a guilty pleasure of mine (Can't stand the second one). But we were given a 100-or-so-question packet to answer along with watching the movie. Teachers wanted to make sure students were paying attention because it wasn't a free period. I HAVE this movie on DVD and had seen it *so* many times before watching it in this class... I had the packet done within the first damn opening credits. I got to kick back and just *enjoy* a movie in class XD
"does anybody realize that there are ways to make a female character really compelling without just ... she can kick everybody's butt?" THANK YOU for pointing this out
Its only worse if they do it yo a side character female character cuz most of the time they just relegate them to back up fighter and do to there own flawed power scaling it never comes up again as in the ladder of power scaling sych a character cant out shadow the MC, BBG, most other side characters and mentors, however they do get to beat grunts and bullies and problematic ass holes.... However so does the MC mentor side character's and BBG which then lowers them to not being that strong in actuality and just makes there scene of beating uo guys useless as do to power scaling so does everyone else
And Annabelle was that in the books she was very compelling and she even was a bit butt-kicky one of the things I really hated is they had her using a sword which she specifically doesn't ever use a sword it's a big character point and they completely removed her obsession with architecture.
Yet movies still haven't learned that lesson, and if you don't cheer for that all-powerful zero real struggle female character, you're sexist, because she's showing girl power ..... by having everything handed to her and removing any real struggles they may have.

I will say this, one of the few best things in the movies was the comedy, the sequel had Dionysus stating to Zeus, "The christians have a god who can do the opposite (turn water into wine) now that's a god"
19:00 I mean in the books Sally also knew about the camp (I'm 90% sure), she just didn't want to let go of Percy just yet because he was her kid, so she took other measures. Which makes sense because at the point he finds out about monsters he's 12. Makes less sense to keep it from him if he's fucking 17
Luke’s betrayal in the book: Tricks Percy into coming into the woods with him, expresses disillusionment with Camp Half-Blood and the gods themselves, puts a scorpion on Percy, monologues pretty realistically about how he’s been let down time after time, then disappears like a badass and leaves Percy to die. Luke’s betrayal in the movie: HAHA TWAS ME ALL ALONG *shoots lightning and makes big kaboom*
The book scene also came with such a badass line: "There's a new Golden Age coming. It's too bad you won't be here to see it, Percy." THEY DIDNT EVENT MENTION THAT IN THE MOVIE
I remember the first time I read that chapter when I was 12, I was absolutely shocked and felt personally betrayed. The books are great, even if they're hella inaccurate to the original myths
@@lorenzoromito7735 Uhhh, Poseidon being a good father and a good person all around ? Aphrodite being mild-mannered ? Artemis being nice and friendly ? The Olympians in general being either good people or morally neutralc? None of these things are even close to mythologically accurate. The gods of Olympus were either neutral but quick to curse or kill you for something silly (that'd be Dyonisus, Artemis, and even Athena who is not without blame), or downright full on evil by today's standards (Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo...). Basically, excluding a few titans such as Prometheus, Hades was the only divine being who was genuinely kind-hearted and helpful to mortals, as even his wife Persephone was more scary and violent than him Cx
@@Megalomaniac_Trans_Lesbian if the gods were good people I'm pretty sure the whole books' premise would be missing. The demigods like Luke had every reason in the world to be angry at them, so much that Percy had to make the gods swear on the Styx before expressing his wish, that basically was "yo, people you should improve your behaviour"
One obvious sign we should have all seen that they didn't read the book, they changed Mrs Dodds from a maths teacher to an English teacher. Those of you who haven't read the books might be wondering why this is important. The title of the very first chapter is "I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher"
@@thatonepercyjacksonfan4786I'm English mate, and as a result, I have a European copy of the book. And my copy says the title I listed above. I actually went and checked before writing the comment to be sure I wrote the exact title.
The only reason I can think that they changed it is so that they could establish Percy's dyslexia, but it's not like they couldn't have done that a different way with a little thought. Also, it denys the fact that math's teachers are universally evil. 😂
@@jonathangoodwin5609 Of course it is, it's a really minor detail in the grand scheme of things. But it just showed how little they cared about the book as that's a pretty memorable title for a first chapter
I’m convinced that the movie writers looked at the book, complained that there were no pictures, and then decided to do whatever they want. Also looking forwarded how you tear apart the second dumpster fire that is Sea of Monsters.
Exist a comic book about Percy Jackson if they didn't liked a book without pictures they could read that book but they thought "Who is Rick Riordan? My intelect surpasses him!"
I hated how in the movie they said Hades wanted a war. In the books, Hades DIDN'T want a war because the underworld was getting extremely full. He didn’t want any more dead people. And he complained about how he used to be a rich god, but then he had to spend all his money on things like paying people and upgrading the underworld. It completely took away from Hades' backstory and I really disliked that. They made him evil in the movie, but in the book he was really just misunderstood.
@@abiean222it’s because they always feel the need to bring christianity into everything and draw parallels between greek mythology and christianity where none exist. that’s why they keep referring to the underworld as hell in the movie and clearly wanted hades (in his first appearance at least) to resemble satan lol
Annabeth: "I'm the daughter of the goddess of wisdom and battle strategies". Proceeds to take off her helmet, a armour piece guardian one of the most vital areas of the body, right before she starts fighting. Also, if Percy had been the one to fly up to get the pearl, and around during the hydra fight, in the book, Zeus would have sent him smacking down towards the earth/ground again within seconds. And I really liked that Riordan didn't just jump to making Hades the bad guy, based on the one fact that he's the god of the underworld. That doesn't automatically make him evil, and it was so refreshing to see, expecially since Hades is actually easily one of the most liked characters in the panteon (expecially between him and his brothers).
@Shavar Campbell783 True, but in his defense I'd say that that matches more with his personality already (based on the stories we have), ulike the personality Hades has in the stories, which gets turned 160 degreees around for the sake of some of the stories people make.
@Shavar Campbell783 I didn't know he was the father of the amazon's, so if that comes up it's in one of the chapters/books I haven't gotten too yet. I also don't remember much about Clarisse (bits and pieces from random scenes), so I don't know what her and Ares relationship was like.
Can we just appreciate how 12-YEAR-OLD Percy gets through the first book successfully, being smart, sassy, heroic, and not being told, like, anything and figuring stuff out. While a 17-YEAR-OLD Percy had all his victories handed to him, no sense of humor, and had to get the major plot points TOLD to him by Daddy. Love how a middle-schooler is better suited for questing than the almost colleg-age kid. Edit: Wow, I've never gotten so many likes before! Thanks for 101 😊
They also sucked all of the awkwardness and sincerity out of Percy. That was what made him a hero. He accomplished incredible things but at the end of the day he felt like an actual 12-year old with a good heart, and a lot of courage. Movie Percy's eyerolling and cynicism hurts me on a physical level.
You mean 17 year old from the books? All the versions of him that are featured while he’s in college aren’t centered around him, so of course it seems a little easy
43:41 If it makes you feel better, Grover is actually 28 in the first book. It's explained as satyrs age slower than humans, so he still looks like a kid.
However, it’s exactly that, they age slower, like, half as fast. That not only do they physically age slower, but *mentally* as well. I’m fairly certain that it was stated that even though in those human years he was in his late 20’s or so, he was mentally, emotionally, and essentially about the same age as Percy, if not a couple years older, depending on how old he is.
Fun fact: Even though Peter of the movie didn’t give a crap, Percy actually says in the first book that Chiron was the only teacher whose class he payed attention to because he liked Chiron’s way of teaching. _“You wouldn’t think he’d be cool, but he told stories and jokes and let us play games in class. He also had this awesome collection of Roman armour and weapons, so he was the only teacher whose class didn’t put me to sleep.”_
The fact that the kid playing Percy went on to play the extremely emotional scenes in Perks of Being a Wallflower shows the lack of direction and poor writing, not the lack of acting skills
Actually, there is a reason Riptide is a capped pen! In House of Hades, Annabeth figures out how if you cap it a certain way, you can write with Riptide, which was really important since she and Percy needed to get a message to camp
It also works as Percy taking the blade out of it's sheath, a thing meant to protect the blade, like the illusion protects Riptide by hiding it's presence.
@@naomilanders9381 not just that, but also as a way to sheath it back into its mist form disguise. In the movie, its as krimson put it “a clicky top of doom”. Sure, you can click it and somehow not lose your finger to it growing apparently, but in neither movie does there ever show a scene of how he shrinks it. It just does it on its own. And on top of that, the pen is supposed to be linked to him and return to him after a certain time no matter how far unless magic. None of that is in the movies
Anabeth: My mother is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy so I'll win. Also Anabeth: Reveals her location, takes off her helmet and spends the moment of surprise to flaunt
That’s because this Annabeth is literally Clarisse. Literally. And when people didn’t like that and the actors’ chemistry together, the filmmakers said, “let’s find another actress, separate the Annabeth and Clarisse fusion that we made, and make Percy and Clarisse flirt the entire second movie”. It’s because they wanted the rivals dynamic, but didn’t know how to get it done with Annabeth’s legit character.
Also, she put the flag like *one meter from the water.* You know, the boundary that the flag has to cross to win? Daughter of Athena, Goddess of Wisdom and Battle Strategy, ladies and gentlemen.
I like how in the books Percy’s mom is like a goddes to him,and was one of the only things that made him happy, his reaction to her being dead in the movie is “dang that’s a unfortunate”
Percy in the books: crying and trying to reunite with his mother in the underworld Percy in the movie: Damn, that’s sad. anyways back to talking about me
Yeah, the fact that he tries to use the Quest -to get back the Lightning Bolt- to get his mother back, is in my opinion really important. While he wants to help, it is far more important for him to get his mother back. And by the time they are at the underworld and Percy has the chance, he instead does the right thing and can do nothing but hope that Hades brings his mother back after everything is resolved.
One thing i noticed, when persephone says "I've never had a satyr" that means that she sleeps around on hades but im 95% sure shes always been faithful even after hades slept with minthe
Oh thank god they didn’t make them in your universe, I come from a time line where there’s a movie for every book including hero’s of Olympus and because of this ww7 has just started
Speaking of death. I always wondered why Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades even made the Pact of 3. I mean yea it was to prevent any powerful children from being used by the enemy, BUT it’s not like they even kept their promise anyhow.
@@geomania8533 Reading the books to the very end (book 5. Last Olympian) would tell you why. There was a prophecy saying- fuck this. The heroes soul, curse blade shall reap. A single choice shall end his days, Olympus to preserve or raze"* Yeah.... It's pretty self explanatory.
Some gods doesn't talk to their children because they generally don't care, Ares for example he mostly talks to clarisse down and just speak to her to get her down, Poseidon can't because it's implied he actually is mostly busy with it's kingdom and you know it's second family stuff and most of them doesn't know because for them is like "ohh you are my son... hehehe crap"

Having recently listened to the Lighting Thief musical it's remarkable how much more loyal to book it is to the book despite having a similar runtime. It's not a one to one adaptation by any means, it's very condensed. But it understands that for all the talk of gods and monsters, it's a story about kids with a lot of real life issues exploring the drawbacks and benefits of them in a fantastical setting. You get cool powers because your parent is a god, but because of that your parent can't be a parent because they're off busy controlling the weather, like a real life parent busy with their job. This movie keeps the power fantasy without adding the nuances that make it relatable.
"The source material is successful because it's good. So why don't you take what's good and put it on the screen." FOR REAL MAN. So many adaptations failed because they can't get this into their heads.
Accuracy isnt the only problem. The last airbender was basically 1to1 accurate but they completely missed the emotional beats and character development. I feel because of the way this was directed it coulda been one to one and still horrible bc it jus misses the beats in some places

Grover: "You're gonna kill the janitors? Those are working class Americans!" Me, a janitor: "THANK YOU! Glad to see SOMEONE around here appreciates what we do."
The thing I hated most about this movie is definitely the misunderstanding of hades. Especially how they made him abusive to Persephone which is completely inaccurate to the book and mythology. Hades actually loved Persephone and Persephone grew to love hades. Because he proved to her he was a good kind, loving man. She actually loved her time spent in hades and never wanted to leave but knew she had to. So definitely some major inaccuracies
It's not even that I hate about this movie, it's the way they made him look. In the movie, they just made him look so weirdly casual, ungodly. In comparison, in the book, one of Percy's first thoughts is that Hades is the first god he's met that actually looks godly.
@@marierolfson1812 I think you got the wrong comment, but I heard about the new Disney plus movie, and heard that he’s actually directing so I hope that it turns out amazing!!
He went on a rant about how Sally could have sent him to camp since she apparently knew about it at 19:13 , but Sally actually knew about it in the books too. I don’t have the text in front of me, but I’m pretty sure she said something about not wanting to send him to camp because she was afraid they’d keep him year round and she wanted to keep him with her.
Indeed so; She loved Percy fiercely and even kept the name Jackson out of spite towards Gabe. She even managed to kill a Laistrygonian and assured Percy she'd be fine and it was up to him to stop Kronos.
Which makes sense in the books since anyone would be protective of their 12 year old child. A mother is still protective of a 17 year old but not in the sane ways. Not like in the movie
The one thing that irritated me was the fact that they act like the Mist doesn't even exist. Like that fisherman should not see Poseidon and the cleaning lady should not have seen Medusa's head
They fuck up the mist even worse in the next movie. Honestly, it probably would have been better if they just ignored it like they did in the first movie. Not a whole lot better, but maybe, like, 1% better.
There are exactly two good things this movie did: 1. Introduce the name of a great book series to people who didn't know that they existed. 2. Show future adaptors of this series what not to do.

Chris Columbus was a dangerous choice as director for this, because he was actually for aging up the Harry Potter characters as well. When they were first making that movie, he wanted them to all be 16 so they would be 'easier to direct'. It was only when JKR and the studio people put their foot down, and rightly so, that they gave up on that and just dealt with the children's acting by editing the heck out of the films to get what good bits of acting he could. 8:59 I feel like they added Percy not paying attention in the movie to emphasize his ADHD. But even that doesn't justify the change because hyperfixation (also known as "extreme productivity") is a legitimate symptom of ADHD. There can be one or more things that someone with ADHD can focus on and absorb if it interests them. And I'm sure Rick Riordan knew that, because Percy in the books is constantly shown to lack interest/focus in many subjects except for the one he hyperfixates on: Greek mythology.

@@person3562 you’re right actually. That was Riordan’s inspiration for making the character with ADHD and dyslexia. His son had the same thing and he wanted to show his son that he could still be important and special despite those diagnoses.
My biggest problem with Grover in the movies (that very much don’t exist) is that they made the character black so they could say, “look, diversity!” while relegating him to the stereotypical black sidekick trope of “funny black guy who quips and says one liners and not much else.”Essentially they tried to “improve the story by adding diversity and instead ruined it with their own biases cause gods forbid a black character have their own plot development! "Persephone is in the Underworld." Me: "Why is that odd? She is Hades's wife after-" "In the middle of June!" Me: "Okay, nevermind. These writers clearly had their own heads up their asses throughout the whole process. Even more casual Greek myth fans like me knows that's complete bullshit!"
i know! literally everybody with a sliver of information about mythology knows that persephone is with demeter in the spring/summer, and is in the underworld during fall/winter. it’s not that hard to fuck up guys!
Her trip to the underworld is literally the reason that the seasons exist in Greek mythology. If she is in the underworld it is cold as heck in the main world
Also, Persephone doesn't even appear in the series until book 5. Granted, she was also in the underworld during the summer in that book, but that's because there was a war going on, so she was seeking refuge with her mom Demeter.
I’m just glad that Riordian is working with Disney for a tv show of this series. I’ve always thought that maybe a TV show would work best for this instead of a book being compacted into a movie.
"Ha ha, beastiality is funny. Oh who am I kidding, it's probably the most mythologically accurate thing in this movie." I couldn't suppress a laugh there.
@@BaulFoodmanedits no she wasn't. Apparently you have to rewatch the movie, she even struck Jade's with the masterbolt, Zeus is her father. She wasn't talking about Hades.
Chiron "Children of big three are rare" Me: Do you mean Hades children are very rare? Since Zeus and Poseidon had so many kids it was difficult beside a few kids to know which one they belong to.
Also why the HADES did they make Persephone hate her husband!? They're literally one of the if not only healthy relationship in mythology. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually made Hera love Zeus and vise versa if they continued
I completely agree in fact it gets him and his friends in the trouble throughout the series it's not until camp Half-Blood meets the other camp I can't remember the name of right now and they go in their epic adventure that he finally learns to start letting other people help him.
Something that I love is that Perseus (who was given flying shoes from Hermes) and Luke (who is the son of Hermes) gave Percy (who is named after Perseus) flying shoes
Speaking of Book!Hades, two things: 1) when it comes to his appearance, Percy noted that he was the first god who struck him as "godlike", describing him being lithe and graceful "like a panther". 2) when it comes to personality, Book!Hades is fed up, overworked and outraged. He straight up starts a rant how he used to be a rich god, but he has constant expenses for more security and how he doesn't need to conquer the mortal world because he has so much work already with the lines of people that constantly die. Then Percy opens his motor mouth to talk about getting Charon a raise which prompts another mini rant from Hades. I actually liked that in the books. The idea that this seemingly unflappable, regal god is so offended and fed up with unjust accusations that he goes on a rant in front of demigods, one of which being Poseidon's spawn, was both horrifyingly sad and frankly amusing. And although I didn't mind the movie Underworld, the Book one was better, because not only do they have to go through the fields of punishment and the pit to Tartarus to get to Hades's castle, but also they get glimpses of the Fields of Asphodel and Elysium as well. And once they reach said palace, Percy describes it as "dark reflection of Olympus". Again, showing another hint of Hades's bitterness and loneliness for being an outcast. Also, while Persephone might not have some teleporting pearls to give to the trio, you know what she does have and the trio took a glimpse at on their way to Hades? Persephone's garden. Seriously, it was one of the coolest places in the Underworld, with trees that grow gemstones, pomegranate trees and statues from Aunty Em's Emporium. It just added to the wonder of the Underworld that Riordan cooked up, a bit of Persephone's influence in an otherwise Hades design. The movies went for the cliche fire and brimstone Underworld with the Styx tacked on. Honestly, didn't mean to rant, but honestly, the book portrayal of the Underworld and Hades was so magical and the movie went and massacred that image with cliches.
Yeah, the movie just went with "oh underworld, Hell of course", but even though it's sometimes translated as hell (in french we literally call the underworld, Hells), it's an under world, where people are supposed to live far longer than their actual life, it's both Heavens, Hell and a sort of Limo/Purgatory at the same time. The fire and brimstone look is only for Tartarus ^^'
I think Riordan also got Hades wrong Hades is actually a pretty good guy Only bad thing he did was kidnapping persephone Cuz like Never had children with mortal ppl, cuz loyal to persephone Orpheus and probably other stuff i forgot
Also, Hades and Persephone had the healthiest relationship out of all the Greek gods, he treated Persephone with kindness, she was only allowed to visit him in winter.
The Arch, The Chimera and the Hudson River. Crusty's Waterbeds. Ares on his Harley Davidson at the Diner, and later the seaside. The Zoo Trailer and the animals in it. Grover's love of nature. The terrifying Tartarus scene. Luke's Intellect. Annabeth's Intellect. Percy's Intellect. Intellect. Sorry, just jotting down a few things that this movie completely removed for no reason.
The water park, Percy and Annabeth’s relationship, Percy’s kindness and bravery, the suspense, the good action, Annabeth’s personality, Annabeth and Luke’s backstory together, Annabeth’s Blonde hair, Grover’s self consciousness. There, added a few more for you
"Isn't Grover also underage? What is wrong with the women in this movie?" Greek gods. I mean... good thing they aren't 12. The gods hitting on everyone is probably one of the more realistic parts.

Fun Fact: In the books Sally knew about the camp, just didn't want to send Percy there, so she did everything in her power to protect him there (That's why she married Gabe)
Sally: I'll do everything in my power to protect him Also Sally: marries a jackass and lets her son get abused, literally the opposite of protecting him it's just a bit ironic
The greatest success of the books was to defy our expectations everyone expected Hades to be the bad guy and the cause of evil but turns out he was just a chill god minding his business (like the myths) The movie ruined that and just made him into a stereotypical villain
Riordan made me so happy when he didnt make Hades into another stereotypical villain. @@mephisto........7746 the difference is that the comic book for being short cut some material from the book but we get nice images and the books are more complete but to be honest both have the same story, my recommendation is to first read the books then if you like you can go read trials of Apollo
"The source material is successful because it's good! Why don't you take what's good and put it on the screen, instead of replacing it with stuff we are tired off?" That is such an accurate take on modern films (2010 onward). These films and lately TV shows almost all start with a very successful series of books, comics or video games, which are famous because they're unique, different, risky...then studios decide "Too unique, more conformity", "Too different, people will be confused", "Too risky, we won't make a 20x profit"...which is funny because they replace everything unique with every cliche people outside the US like myself get a laugh out of guessing in mediocre films. It's also hilarious that in making the film safer, more broadly appealing, it loses 90% of the profits it would've had because...well, we saw this film 5, 10, 20, 40 years ago, nothing's changed except the effects when you rely on cliches. Serious, tell me a major difference between Percy and Perseus besides one being older, one having winged shoes instead of pegasus, the different fathers and being a stubborn dick at times? (Percy Jackson and Clash of the Titans). They also both get a mystical sword that folds neatly into just a handle/a pen, a badass shield of some sort, a means of flight, their parents get attacked (Percy's mom and Perseus' adopted family).
Yet where was that issue with Superman: Red Son? It’s not the most accurate adaptation or the most expensive adaptation of Superman: Red Son but it’s still good.
Did anybody else notice that in the second book, when Tyson couldn’t enter Camp, Annabeth goes “I, Annabeth Chase, let Tyson into Camp” or something similar. I think Uncle Rick made sure Grover was unconscious when he, Percy and Sally tried to get into camp in the first book, otherwise Grover could have said the line, Sally wouldn’t have been taken, and thus removing half the plot. (Percy obviously didn’t know he could do this, naturally.) It annoys me so much that in the movie, Grover was perfectly fine but didn’t do ANYTHING to save Sally or help Percy fight the Minotaur, he just stood inside the borderline looking panicked. But no, it’s all “I’m sorry, Perc. I did everything I could.” ARGH. Also, in the movies, why on earth is Grover always so shocked about Greek mythology stuff??? Mate, YOU’RE PART OF IT.
Grover: Jesus Christ what is that!? Me: That's a Cyclop. You know the thing that almost killed you when you are little. Grover: Oh right. Sorry so much of my backstory is getting re-written that I don't even know what I am.
it kind of makes sence as they can only not use technolgy as it broadcasts their location to monsters of the underworld and seens as everyone knows where the camp is and it is protected by the forcefield which is what gives the second book the plot so it doesnt cause any danger plus i dont think the film makers cared as they allowed the rest of the film
Well… in the books corey is right. In the movie, who knows since its never explained. But assumin it is, then its just dumb. I could only stretch it and say luke is intentionally doin it to attract monsters to show how evil he is while seeming cool
Hades from mythology gives me the vibe that he is just a lonely dude that is just glad people occasionally make the incredibly dangerous trek to come see him to ask a favor/boon of him that more often than not he just gives them what they want and if he doesn't he just turns them away, no harm done. Sure sometimes he puts stipulations on boons but those are more like tests really.
My favorite was a part Hades played in the 12 labors of Heracles. Bro is just like yeah you can take my dog just don't hurt him if anything I'll be impressed if you can manage to do so
Or my favourite, oh wow that was a nice song, sure take your wife back. The only reason the guy (whom I cant remember how to spell his name) failed was because he didn't trust hades.
I kinda hate how they downplayed Luke, Luke is smart, he is manipulative and his betrayal was supposed to hurt Percy because he was the one who showed him kindness and some understanding when he came into the camp, confused and scared.
I really hated how there was no mystery/build up to Percy being claimed :( That's always a big deal in the books when a character finds out who their parent is and here he just immediately gets sent to the Poseidon cabin.
21:26. My moms the goddess of wisdom, it gives me the power to announce my presence without disarming or detaining my opponent and then IMMEDIATELY take off my helmet before fighting him . Seriously why did she take off the helmet??? It hurts so much to see .
Medusa.... has the hots for Percy... because he is Poseidon's son? Poseidon. The guy who raped her? The guy who ruined her life and is the reason she got cursed by Athena? That makes sense! What the hell.
@@yoursonisold8743 In the books, they were lovers. Can't really put rape into a book made for kids. She hates Athena cause when Poseidon and Medusa got frisky, they did it in one of Athena's temples. Athena couldn't curse Poseidon, so she cursed Medusa. IIRC, she had a love/hate feeling towards Poseidon from then on cause he wasn't into snake women, so he abandoned her.
@@MorganSaph That... is messed up. It is kind of like the original myth except the author decides to make the rape victim be her rapist's lover. Disgusting. Though I guess the original myth wasn't much better what with Medusa getting punished and cursed for being violated and then slain for being a monster that the gods made her. But at least in the original Medusa resented all the gods for their cruelty.
@@yoursonisold8743 The “original myth” Medusa was just a nasty monster who was born a gorgon. Some versions referenced her having sexual encounters with Poseidon, though whether it was consensual wasn’t really specified. Then the poet Ovid, a Roman, rewrote her story to be a mortal woman that was raped by Poseidon. In that version, Athena couldn’t punish him so she blamed the victim instead and turned her into a monster. How a woman that was born as a human could have gorgon sisters…I don’t know. This version of the tale gained popularity in the 1970s due to the feminist movement. However, it seems to have been the invention of Ovid. Both of these are perfectly valid versions. Stories change over time, along with the people telling them. The Percy Jackson books are the same kind of thing, really. Just much much more recent. But it’s ridiculous to claim that one Roman writer’s version of a Greek myth is anymore correct than the Greek tellings that predate it by centuries. What the Percy Jackson books did is combine the older Greek versions of Medusa with the one from the Roman Ovid’s famous story, and somehow managed to get the contradictory elements to actually make sense. Plus, they did it without all the sexual assault, and manage to make it family friendly. Win win!
@@rubbegameing5370 Yes but Magnus and Percy met in the third book and Jack (the summarbrander, Magnus' sword) said Anaklusmos is a girl. And Jack is a guy
I also hate when people paint hades as a villain because he “kidnaped” persephone which yes he did kind of do that but he didn’t think he was doing anything wrong because Zeus said he could, he did slip pomegranate seeds in her food so she had to come back after fall/autumn but if I remember correctly she liked it there, Orpheus goes to the underworld to requests Hades to bring his wife back to life boom wife back because hades was moved by his love, out of the three Hades is probably the least villainous out of them
I think the biggest reason he’s always “the villain” is because people combine him in their mind with the Christian devil because of their similar roles with the underworld/hell
@@ethancooper1560 The Satan depicted in the Bible isn't lord over Hell. Hell was made for him and his hosts to be cast into and suffer for all eternity for their rebellion against God, then man sinned and so man is also doomed to eternal damnation but then God sent his one and only son so that whoever believes in Him will not die (eternal death), but have eternal life (gospel of Jon, chapter 3:16). Satan ruling Hell is not a Christian fact, it's a popularized view, a wrong one. He and his demons will suffer in Hell for all eternity, not rule in it. He currently rules over the world, as it was given over to him by God, so that he would have authority over it, but God promised us that Jesus would return one day and take the world from him and rule it with his people. The Bible is clear about these things, if you wish you can read more about it for yourself of course, the book of Revelation talks a lot of what is yet to come and satan's imprisonment in chapter 20.
But she's been raising, teaching, and defending him his whole life! Mrs. Jackson even gives him a new NICE stepfather called Mr. Blowfish! Darn! I meant Blofis!
Wow, there's a lot of things to say about this. But the thing that stands out to me is they just straight up made Hades into Satan. Both in terms of his design when he's first introduced, and his personality. Yeah sure screenwriters, I'm sure that the fact that you couldn't be bothered to research a greek mythology character and just replaced him with a superficially similar but entirely different character from a different source won't irritate fans of this greek mythology series in any way.
Good to know that I’m not the only one who’s very disturbed by Medusa’s actions with Percy. Hades only did a few things that would be considered “bad”, the most well-known one being that he kidnapped Persephone. The thing with calling that bad, however, is that you also have to acknowledge that tons of other gods like Zeus and Apollo did the same thing multiple times
@@isaacgleeth3609 There were other iterations of the storie where Zeus DID the kidnapping because Hades was down and made the off comment about wanting a wife to keep him company in the Underworld. "There are more ways to make a female character compelling than 'she can kick everybody's @ss.'" I agree, the reason that i find Athena an interesting god in greek mythology and the reason i live Annabeth's character in the Percy Jackson books is because even though those two could both kick your @ss they are also extremely smart and can solve problems in multiple ways.
One thing I hated is that they cut Clarisse from the film and tried to replace her with Annabeth. They made Annabeth a really tough warrior instead of a smart, strategic fighter. Kind of like how they cut ares from the movie and replaced his role as another bad guy (unintentionally rising Kronos) to start a war, with hades who only wants his riches back. They also had no respect for the ACTUAL laws of the book. Percy was told not to use Luke’s shoes because flying is Zeus’s territory and he would strike him out of the sky. That was a huge part of it. The gods aren’t allowed to do anything in another gods territory. They took away from Percy doing things himself (as said in the video). One thing that was really smart of him was recognizing that the Minotaur could only go forward and using that to his advantage. That is how he defeated him. It was a cool moment from Percy. But did the movie portray that? No! And they had the demigods use phones. The whole point was that they couldn’t use phone because the monsters could track them and find them. Some demigods did have phones but it was at their own risk. Percy was not one of them. And something Luke said was really stupid. In the movie, Luke said he never met his father but he broke into his house and stole some stuff. Ok, what makes the writer think that a GOD would have a house??? Other than olympus, they don’t have a house. Even if he did, how did Luke find it if he had never met Hermes at all? It makes no sense. And for gods sake, ITS A SEARCHERS LICENSE NOT HORNS. Grover should’ve been born with those horns. And at this point, movie grover doesn’t even deserve it. They took away grovers whole down-to -earth personality. They made him a ladies man and they ruined him. Finding pan isn’t even a thing here. Not to mention everyone in this movie is an asshole. Luke was an asshole from the beginning so the plot twist was not a twist at all. The campers was one that and me angry. Camp half blood is supposed to be a team. A unit. A place where people don’t always get along, but they do what’s right and come together to protect the well-being of the world and the people in it. There are people who stray from the path (Luke, Nico, etc) but in the end all the campers care about camp half blood the same amount. Even Percy and Clarisse can see eye to eye sometimes. The movie took away some of my favourite scenes and connections by making everyone judgmental. I could go on. Like how bringing Percy’s mother instead of Grover from the underworld is a stupid idea considering she could be killed a second time because she’s not a demigod (she’s a badass but still). Or how annabeths relationship with Luke should’ve been touched on more. Or how Persephone flirting with Grover was creepy But the video covers most of it
Yes anabeth was really sweet and kind in the books while still being tough and smart and it’s that perfect balance that makes Rick’s characters so awsome. In the films percy was just an a-hole, anabeth was just badass and Grover was just silly

One obvious sign we should have all seen that they didn't read the book, they changed Mrs Dodds from a maths teacher to an English teacher.

Hollywood has an agenda against Hades
As usual, taking care of things better than his brothers
What movie?
hollywood is obsessed with making hades the devil.
That doesn't automatically make him evil, and it was so refreshing to see, expecially since Hades is actually easily one of the most liked characters in the panteon (expecially between him and his brothers).
an anime character once said "just because your the devil doesn't automatically make you a bad guy"

Riordan wrote Hades and Anubis really cool in his books. I can tell he likes the Underworld and moon gods a lot.

They also sucked all of the awkwardness and sincerity out of Percy. That was what made him a hero.

Clearly he got his way with Percy Jackson, and it suffered so heavily for it.

Hades was amazing. Hades doesn’t deserve that much hatred. He is a loving and caring father and he is so underrated. I love him.
That is such an accurate take on modern films (2010 onward).

The thing with calling that bad, however, is that you also have to acknowledge that tons of other gods like Zeus and Apollo did the same thing multiple times
Hades WAS given permission by Zeus, the father of Persephone, to take her, so it's a bit of technicality.
@@isaacgleeth3609 Exactly. It was alzo Zeus' fault for not telling anything to Demeter.
it's less of a kidnapping and more of an arranged marriage.
@@isaacgleeth3609 There were other iterations of the storie where Zeus DID the kidnapping because Hades was down and made the off comment about wanting a wife to keep him company in the Underworld.
And Zeus being Zeus, kidnapped Persephone and dropped her at Hade's feet, bowtie and all. Before Hades could even object to how monumentally stupid this was, Zeus proclaimed, "Yeah, as King of the Gods and stuff, I pronounce you man and wife. Enjoy your honeymoon! Byyeeee!"
@@romankvapil9184 ...why am I now picturing Persephone wrapped up like a sexy Christmas present in this iteration? And glaring beams of absolute death at her Uncle at the same time.
I didn't read the books, but in defense of people who don't acknowledge the movie's existence, before you say "these people are arrogant because they wanna look superior, or geeks who hate mainstream", ask any Avatar: the last Airbender if there ever was a movie. The answer is always no
Yeah I think avatar fans and pjo fans are on the same boat there
Percy Jackson was literally my second favorite book series during my entire childhood. This movie is nonexistent in my heart, and gets murdered in my head whenever it's brought up.
@@Josephine_de_Beauharnais1763 what movie?
I do not wish to deny the movies existence. I think thats wrong, because then we would forget the ABSOLUTE BULLSH*T THAT CAME OUT OF THE DIRECTORS MOUTH. We need to remember how bad these movies are so we dont make anything this bad again.
@@shadowbrosrealm to be honest i actually like the director the main issue is a) the writer b) this is a theory but i don't think he liked the books much which obviously means he won't try very hard
"There are more ways to make a female character compelling than 'she can kick everybody's @ss.'"
I agree, the reason that i find Athena an interesting god in greek mythology and the reason i live Annabeth's character in the Percy Jackson books is because even though those two could both kick your @ss they are also extremely smart and can solve problems in multiple ways.
REPLY!!!
The strategy of film industries is to make a female caracter suck as much as posible and then call people sexist for not liking it
One thing I hated is that they cut Clarisse from the film and tried to replace her with Annabeth.
They took away grovers whole down-to
-earth personality.
And Clarisse becomes Percival's love interest.
@@marianabonina249 Sweet & kind? She literally sets percy up in the book and almost got him killed, just to flaunt how her mother would be proud. Is that what you call sweet & kind?
@@marianabonina249and not the good kind of silly
@@theoutlawking9123 meh, they barely knew each other at the time, it was a rocky start but their relationship DID get better eventually
So Percy went through this entire this to save his mom only to leave her behind at the end.
Sounds legit.
My Greek teacher told me that, one day, the school had gone to a field trip and just one kid in his class had come, so he gave him the first Percy Jackson book so he would have something to do... The boy came the next day having finished the book and asking for the next one. Before that, he said he didn't like reading.
Thanks to the author I am now the local go to guy for everything mythology, as I'm pretty sure everyone in this comments sections is. Damn he writes such good books.
