I think what happens when you decarbonise the valves with paste you end up with a bit longer valve stem. So all way cheek valves clearance before rebuild. Great video.
Just doing a De coke and New Head Gasket on a 35 Classic, also taken the Valves out and re Ground Them, found it easy to get the Springs out with the Valve Spring Compressor but taken about 4 attempts to get Inlet back in , found it quick Tricky .........Will attempt putting the Exhaust in shortly, Thanks for the Info and Tips in This Video .
I found that the centrifugal decompression device on the plastic camshaft, will cause it to be hard to start if its become stuck in either position, but even when the decompression device is working correctly, you will not get any exhaust valve clearance with the engine not spinning at least 300rpm.
I just Checked the flywheel key but no critical damage just a tiny bit smashed and I checked after putting it back with the flywheel and it was perfectly centered, re assembled it and again the kickback, I also checked the crankshaft to see if it was bent but it seems not. And also when I unplug the spark plug it moves quite easily so I think it is a valve problem...
Hi there I did purchase your dvd, what I have done is took everything off to paint my deck and not sure I have put them wheel holders and adjusters back correctly (rear ones) do you have a video please, my mower is a Champion with the 3.5 classic engine! thanks in advance Ian
No I don't yet. Go to your local dealer and have a look how they go on or see if anyone else is selling a similar mower on ebay where you can see them on the photos
Yes, if the spark plug is in place. That’s the full compression stroke, when the plug sparks to ignite the petrol/air mix and generates downward piston momentum.
Thank you for the video I have the same kickback problem and check all the engine without finding the issue. Turns out it was the valves that opened a tiny bit when they normally don't have to so I'm gonna go ahead and grind them a bit and see if it helps :) But still don't understand why it's causing a massive kickback that, by the way hurt myself pretty bad...
Have you checked both flywheel keys???? also is the blade on correctly? Also try removing the spark plug and pulling it over a few times as it may be hydrolocked.
I haven't checked the flywheel keys but I did grind a bit of the valve butt and replace it ( without the right tool it was a pain), put the engine back together and the kickback is still here... And by the way I took the blade off
If you grind the valve stem, you will have less clearance, how can grinding metal off the stem give you more clearance? if you ground a half inch off, it wouldn't open at all, would it?
jim delsuc there is one on the bottom where you take the blade and adapter off and one at the top under the engine cover. You need to remove the fly wheel to get to it.
Thank you I had re checked the top one and the flywheel was (apparently ) too offset so since I don't want to by anything ( I would need a new flywheel and flywheel key even maybe a new crankshaft ) I tried to compensate with aluminum foil but it was not enough so now I gonna try to move the coil a bit and hope it'll work...
Another great video Mowerman. Saved it from the knackers yard :)
Excellent video, thank you.

Good work
Jim a tiny bit smashed makes a huge difference did you check both ?
Brilliant, just what I was looking for👍

Hope you could help me out with a manual for a 37 Classic please?? I have looked everywhere and cannot find anything.
Hello what book was that looks like good information

Mower Man Thanks Ian
Hi should there be resistance when the flywheel is turned by hand on the power stroke?
Yes, if the spark plug is in place. That’s the full compression stroke, when the plug sparks to ignite the petrol/air mix and generates downward piston momentum.
hey mower man i live in leeds i was wondering do you have a briggs 3.5 hp crankshaft that you are selling as i am in desperate need of one :)

Haynes Manual for small engines
Both? There was only one
