Taryl. Thank you. You save me a lot time and grief. I was taking apart a Briggs and Stratton motor and was stumped on how to take off the valves without destroying the block. After watching you do it with a screw driver, I did the same. If I ever have to hire you for a repair you won't need the debt collector.

Nice! So satisfying how you wire wheeled the carbon off the valves and valve seats.. ground the valve faces nice and purty... basically took that old junked Briggs and made the valve train good as new! I wish I had a valve grinder! I'm very thankful for your videos.. they're great to watch!

Overall another great Taryl video....but on my Briggs 8HP the exhaust valve had a different keeper than the "keyhole"...actually had to use the compressor to squeeze the spring in to release a little 2 piece device that goes around the base of the valve shaft which gets held in place by the pressure of the spring pushing against itself...had to use a little grease gooped onto the pieces so they would stay in place to get te valve back in...thank you again Taryl....and if you ever need a few guys with bent noses and no necks to help deal with those delinquent accounts let me know :)

First of all taryl your videos are so funny you guys kill me😂 I've learned a lot but still have a lot I want to know so thank you. I have a question I hope you still reply to this thread. I have a power washer 212cc predator it's a 2013 it maybe has 20 hrs on it cause it didn't run for over a year probably cause of the ethanol gas mix I was clueless about til recently. But I got it running well. Washed my wife's parking lot at her clinic washed my lawn mower then my neighbor stopped by with his extremely muddy tractor.... So I started washing it and the clay was so thick about an hour into it I switched to the hardest spraying tip I have the pencil sprayer and about a min into it the intake retainer washer (book called it seat, intake valve) that holds the pressure on the spring just under the rocker arm came off and motor died instant of course. So I got ohv cover off and saw it apart and I couldn't really tell anything was wrong other than maybe I never adjusted the valves cause I just didn't understand it was really needed. So I put it back together and it fired up first pull but ten seconds later it came apart again. This time I saw that the valve had flared the slot made to hold it in place so I went to the lawnmower grave yard here locally got another and replaced it. I bought feeler gauges set it to .004 and now I can't get it to start. I've taken it apart put it back to gether at tdc probably 15 times or so. The only clue I can see that it is trying to give is when I'm pulling it, it sounds almost like it's not getting fire or the timing somehow is off like valve opening a hair late or soon cause it starts letting a real light faint smoke out of exhaust after about seven pulls or so. Also I noticed on valve cover top right bolt hole (intake side) is black just that small spot on valve cover only inside valve area is clean as a whistle. I'm at a loss I've got about 18 hrs in it so far working on it and not sure where to go from here. I'm not taking it in ever I'll junk it first. I've gotten screwed for the last time by mechanics of any sort. Please help me if you can thank you for all you videos I appreciate them more than you know!

Hi Taryl I have a Club Cadet 1500 series 1517 model 1998 I watched how you changed a drive belt . I had a hard time getting off the second pulley . Finnally I had success. I checked with a Cadet dealer and he told me not to bend the three tabs that keeps the pulley belt on. I was instructed to not bend the three tabs but take off the 4 bolts that hold the engine in place. , than attach belt and replace clutch drive pulley. Thanks Teradon Rick

Taryl I love your videos. I recently replaced the head gasket on my briggs and stratton intek 21 hp motor. Put all back together, turns over but not starting. Getting spark and fuel but not starting. While I turn it over it makes a "puffing" sound that comes from the air filter. Is it possible for the timing to be off if the fly wheel was rotated while the head was off?

    Hi Taryl,
Love your videos! Entertaining but yet very informative! Can you help me? I have a Craftsman lawn mower with a Briggs and Stratton OHV motor, which recently stopped. Taking it apart, I found that the exhaust valve was stuck in the valve guide from carbon, so I took both valves out, cleaned them up on the wire wheel as well as the head and put them back, adjusting the valves to .06 clearance. I also put a new coil in and adjusted it to .10 clearance. My problem is I cant get the engine started unless I spin it with a drill motor from the crank on top. If I try to start it with pulling it, it just goes put, put, put, like it wants to start and does nothing. I have also checked the shear key for timing and seems to be fine and lined up in place, as well as the governor adjustment. When started with the drill, it does run on the existing carb. I have not taken a compression reading, but assume it is ok if the engine starts. What do you think I should check out? Thanks and keep making the videos! Maybe history channel can pick you guys up for series...

I have an older 5 hp Briggs flat head similar to that one but one of the valves is loose in the guide. Bad thing is is that there's no pressed in guide, it's just the case drilled out. Do you know how I can fix this or drill out the case to accept a pressed in guide? Like what diameter drill bit or hone? Can I use a drill press to do it?

I have a 3.75 Briggs vertical shaft L head. When I took it apart I found the exhaust valve in the guide has a lot of play side to side.
The intake valve has virtually no play by comparison.
Do they make oversized exhaust valves (like for a car engine)? I’d have to ream the old guide.
Do they have replacement valve guides that can be inserted ?
Or is this engine just toast?
