I am wondering your thoughts on Xtone? Still happy? I have a Focusrite solo unopened and wonder if I should send it back and go for this. Hope your well. Thanx 🙏
I am interseted in this and have an iphone 13 but wont want it if I get noise like this. Did you manage to fix the noise issue at all? maybe its a cable issue with the thunderbolt connector
The noise was actually caused by the way I had the patch set up on my phone, after I made some adjustments it worked just like it did with my iPad. I wouldn't worry about that.
@@JoelDodge nice review! By the way, what do you mean about the patch setup? I am trying to understand because I want to setup the xtone to my iPhone also and it's good to know what to do if I will face the same problem. Thanks and keep doing good videos!
BEFORE YOU BUY THIS (XTone Pro) - BEWARE There's a BIG issue in that the switches send MIDI commands only on "release" of the foot switch and not on the "pressing" of them. This problem has been tested and proven by several folks using MIDI monitor plugins in AUM/iOS. DISGUSTINGLY....the vendor was approached, and they say there's no issue, that's how it's supposed to work (REALLY? That's the best you can do). This BIG issue makes the MIDI switches useless when precise timing is needed (looping, precise patch changes, etc. ). Additionally, the "momentary" mode errors out in sending BOTH 0 and 127 at the same time. The MIDI capabilities here are a joke, if you want to do looping and need precise timing. DO NOT WASTE your money.
I got another comment talking about these same issues a few days ago, I haven’t tried looping with it and the midi controls that it offers have worked great for me. But I appreciate the feedback especially bc I’ve been recommending this device. Is there a UA-cam video or blog post that you think could help me understand the issues you’re having with it?
This is a problem with other MIDI pedals too-and from the point of view of some who understand MIDI, not a problem (hence the manufacturer). Because you can program a second switch to stop. There is an explanation of these problems and how to program momentary switching out there. No joke. Keep learning.
@@markdouglas8073 Well… my Morningstar MDI controller (and others that I’ve used) absolutely let me send a MIDI message on PRESS of the foot switch, rather than release. Morningstar makes great MIDI controller products. So there are MIDI controllers and foot switches that send on PRESS rather release (or give you an interface with control over how/when the MIDI message is sent). I love my Morningstar MIDI controller….. but of course, it doesn’t have an audio interface. The “marketing” of the Xtone was it’s the ALL IN ONE - meaning it provides both MIDI and Audio into your iOS. But it’s pretty worthless for things like live looping. Another indication of the lack of design in the Xtone - the front and back foot switches are pretty much the same height. Both my Morningstar MIDI controller and my Neural DSP Quad Cortex - makes the back foot switches a good bit higher or taller. I also noticed that my better quality Best-Tronics MIDI cables didn’t fit well into the Xtone (it’s like I had to force them); but fit like a glove on my Quad Cortex and Morningstar MIDI controller. - - - little things but yeah, BUYER BEWARE. The iOS market as an fx processor and cab/amp simulator will only grow ~ I wish somebody (vendor) with a better track record of design and quality would step up and make the “BOTH” audio interface and MIDI controller in a single box.
@@vio4jesus But MIDI can be programmed (reprogrammed) and controllers are just that. You can reassign what number (action) you want any particular switch to do. So just program it however you want. You have made my point. It can be done.
@@markdouglas8073 You can not program Xsonic's product. Other products (like Morningstar) - YES, absolutely. XSonic has no interface to configure or program it; you're stuck with how it works....... which is to send the MIDI message on release of the foot switch, and there's nothing you can do to change that. BUYER BEWARE - it's a very poorly designed MIDI controller. The audio interface is nice.
Joel I just discovered your channel and subscribed - you have done several videos that were immediately helpful to me and I will keep looking at more!

Thanks Joel.... I always wanted to get one of these and would be interested in seeing what you can achieve with it
Have you found any noticeable difference in latency between this and other interfaces like your Apogee Jam+?
No I haven't had any latency issues with it.
Superb 🎼🎸🎈🎈🎈🎉
