I've seen anime with his stuff, but didn't get the scoop on this dude till I saw an NHK documentary on robots. He did the OST on it, and it pretty much had this Patlabor/Gundam vibe.
Patlabor: Battle for the Capital is set in Tokyo in the 1990s, and features famous places such as the Bay Area. The final scene was also a homage to the departing Tokyo of the 90s. That atmosphere comes back to me when I listen to this song.
NICE JOB!!!
Most fans out there claim Yoko Kano as the best anime composer out there - I beg to differ. Joe Hisaishi should belong in a category all to himself, though.
Yoko is definitely a stand out. But i will always prefer Kawai to her. HIsashi as well is fantastic even with his non ghibli work. I will say, i did enjoy Kannos work on Stand Alone Complex immensely.
何時聴いても、ワクワクする曲です。荒川のセリフは殆ど丸暗記してしまいました。声を当てた竹中直人って、本当に素晴らしい俳優です。

Damn, the opening of the 2nd movie, with this playing and the meca testing alternating with the opening credits... SOOOOooooo epic.
I've been in love with his style of music since first hearing it back in the early 90s. The man is a master of atmosphere in music.
20 years, still shine like gold.
30 years, Patlabor 2 has been released in 1993.
IMHO, the man is deserving of much greater fame and appreciation.

@@Blueoriontiger Would you be able to give the name of that NHK documentary?

Love the piano!
A movie set in the futuristic 2002.
can you imagine that?
Woww, that's the year I was born! So futuristic
80s and 90s were so fast, nobody could imagine stagnation of the future decades.
this drum drives me crazy...
WOW
this is great. i think it is better than any track in ghost in the shell.
Kenji Kawai's soundtracks in Patlabor and Ghost In The Shell is a masterpiece

Old type?
has this been tempo shifted?
No it has not.
Kenji wrote and recorded this version at a slightly higher pitch than the original version used in the film.
『警察24時』のエンドテーマに条件反射する私😅
