I used to fish in Tallabudgera Creek every week 30 years ago and my brother & i used to regularly catch giant Flathead well over 130cm on average. Ours were like crocodiles, speaking of which we once saw a small crocodile swimming down river and out to sea about 1.5m long. Any way we used to catch them on fresh caught yabbies and it was quite common to see flat head heads left behind in the same spot that were way bigger than the ones we caught. The biggest we ever saw was just over 200mm across. No one knew they were females back then which is so sad. The never get big any more because people take them at limit size around 50cm now days so we will never see those giants again in my opinion. I used to skin dive along rocky reef on the Aboriginal shell midden side of the NP & it was a reef fish & painted cray rookery & was full of lion fish and endless species, spotted moray eels, coral shrimp, poker dot groper & so on. I remember when they built the groins and it destroyed the rocky reefs on that side & the habitat & the large number of fish species diapered forever. The groin is not as protected so the species can't live on the other side. I think it accounts also for the loss of food for the giant Flathead & large cod etc too. It was the breeding ground for fish that would make their way out to the palm beach reefs & is why there is so many less species out there now as well. It was an incredible reef fish rookery & as sand pumping began the last of that rocky edge diapered forever. Lost a friend jumping off the bridge like the kids still do today, he got sucked under by the world pools round the pylons on an outgoing tide & couldn't get back to the surface.

Hey @It’s Me Monsta! Yeah! When you said Tallebudgera I was thinking. That sounds familiar! Haha, I’ll definitely try your idea though that sounds like a fun fishing there at low tide like you said. Hope you caught some fish today. I went out to Brighton beach and got some flathead but it was a pretty quiet day today. I have subbed to your channel too. I’ll see you around, good luck with it! 🎣 🐟 💯 I’ll definitely do more Tallebudgera vids in the future too.

Good stuff 👍 I’ve been struggling to find decent water clarity :/

Thanks heaps @Solarmax, yeah the water clarity up in Brisbane at the moment isn’t the best. I’ve done a few trip to the Goldcoast the incoming tides down there have good clarity. I’m sure it will clear up but just takes time. Good luck with your fishing mate! Yew!

@@nigiessquidgies Yep! As you went toward the middle the sides dropped away and it got deeper in levels, I remember snorkeling over the top of divers on a lower sand bar and they were watching a shark feeding on a school below them...! So clear and deep then and couldn't just walk across at any time...
