Nice Flathead caught fishing at Jumpinpin Gold Coast!
Solid fishing mate! Looked like a good time! Im from brissy just over at straddie trying to catch some dinner. Keep up the vids mate!
Thanks mate! I appreciate it. That sounds awesome! Hope you can catch a few fish for dinner. Either way it’s a nice way to spend the weekend! Cheers mate!
Great fun. And nice boat too.
@@JH-nh9xx Thank you very much mate! It was a fun session. That’s my brothers boat. I’ll let him know. Appreciate it. Cheers! 💯 🎣
Sorry mate somehow put the comment on the wrong video. You must have thought what's that about.
@33454262 haha, that’s alright mate. I was wondering about the grunter as I didn’t get any in this video. Haha. No problems at all mate. Cheers
Rain and wind. Crook conditions for finding the fish but it worked out ok. Nice work mate. Those grunter are everywhere these days.
Hey mate. Yes, it’s definitely been difficult conditions recently with all of the rain and wind. I’m hoping a couple of weeks the rivers will be back to normal. Thanks for the comment & good luck with your fishing. Cheers.
ive tried and tried and tried with vibes and never had any luck, eventually gave up on them because im not tryna waste my precious fishing time and now have a few fav hardbodies and placcies. Nevertheless always good to see a nudgee vid from you. Its my most local spot but I dont usually fish it but its nice to see whats goin on. keep it up mate 👍🤙 yew
Hey mate, yeah, the vibes are an interesting lure to use. The first fish I caught on a vibe was a 47cm snapper. It hit it like a freight train taking heaps of line off the reel. I think you would be definitely on the right track with the soft plastics and hardbodies you are using. Just maybe keep the idea in the back of your mind if the opportunity arises where you could use a vibe/ if your fishing some deep water and need a heavy lure to get down in the water column. Cheers mate, I’ll keep going with the Nudgee videos and post them pretty quickly after filming so it gives you an idea of what it’s like at the time. Have a Happy New Years mate and here’s to more fishing in 2025. Cheers.
@nigiessquidgies yea mate cheers to 2025, yeww brotha
Just Japan forever ❤❤❤
That’s a great summary. Some memorable catches there.
Thank you very much - it’s been a great year! Hopefully there are some more good catches to come in the new year. Cheers!
Kudos for saying the fishing spot, it always sucks when you lose an expensive lure but it happens... and subbed.
Thank you very much mate - yes, I like sharing most fishing spots so people can go and catch fish in the same areas. I really liked that lure too - o well that’s alright. That’s fishing for you. Thanks for subbing. Cheers!
Trolling speed was intense
Nice catches, was fishing around the same time yesterday and most days in general at the Hays inlet fishing platform and I feel like since that rain and the dams being opened not much is really happening anymore not many fish for live bait, not as many things biting, although I did catch a few big catfish and an alright javelin grunter but hoping the herring come back soon so I can use live bait to hopefully get some big flatties (caught a massive one last time I used a live herring)
@@BudgieAU Thank you very much mate! Yeah, it has been really difficult lately fishing around Hays Inlet and Woody point. I’ve been struggling to catch fish using my normal methods and lures. The fish are really quiet and aren’t hitting lures like normal. I’m glad to hear it’s not just me noticing this. Perhaps we need to wait a week or two for the water to clear up. I’m sure the live bait will be back soon as well once the water clear up a bit more. Congratulations on the Javelin Grunter. I caught a PB one there at 53cm - they are heaps of fun to catch! I appreciate it mate! Good luck with your fishing.
Hit the pine last weekend and all I got was catfish, biggest was probably about 70 cms. Smallest around the 35 mark. Pulled in 13 over 3 hours.
You have to teach me how to use the sugarpen it just sits in my box haha
I’d be happy to share some tips on how to use the Sugapen - it’s definitely a great lure for catching fish! I’ll get some assist hooks for you!! They make a huge difference and allow you to hook more fish.
Looks like a nice time fishing despite losing a fish and an expensive lure. Your videos are always enjoyable. Have a great Christmas.
Hey mate, Cheers for the comment! Im glad you enjoyed the video - I lost a couple of lures but that’s fishing for you. I always persevere through the difficult sessions and enjoy the really good sessions when they come around. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy new year. Thanks again. :)
great vid bro i was around there yesterday wasn't expecting much after the rain but some how caught 4 flat and 3 bream on plastic lol
Thank you very much - I appreciate it. Wow, sounds like you had a great session getting 4 flathead and 3 bream - well done!! It’s difficult at the moment but you can still get fish. 🎣 💯
That first flatty must of been devastating after a slow day with no hits 🙃
Hey brother, yes it was definitely difficult to lose that fish and a brand new double clutch as well. I always find it difficult to land flathead on 6lb line so I might stick with 8lb for a while. It’s slow at the moment but I’m sure the fishing will pick up soon. Cheers. 🎣 💯
Just started fishing recently and I have always watched you guys best of luck and great fish have a cracker

What is the new reel a Shimano Curado DC?
Hey mate! That’s a new Shimano Curado DC 150 HG ( Digital Control and High Gear Ratio 7.4:1) I’m still testing it out but will be using this in a lot of future videos chasing some bigger fish around the Port of Brisbane.
@@nigiessquidgies How have you liked it? Does it over runa at all or does DC part comeplty fix that now?
What combo are you using?
Hey mate, the main combo is a Daiwa Legalis 4000 reel and a Daiwa TD Black Deepstriker 703 MLFS 2-6kg rod. The bait caster combo is a Shimano Curado DC 150 HG on a Shimano Raider 3-6kg rod.
never been to Port of Brisbane before lol
If you get the opportunity it’s a great place to fish! In this session we mainly caught bream but there are some big snapper, threadfin salmon & Jewfish that get caught at the Port of Brisbane. I’m hoping to get some in future videos. Cheers mate
Where is the Brissie River is this?
Hey mate, that’s north Brisbane not far from the city. Lots of good spots near the city all holding fish like this.
You should try fishing along the kedron brook for flathead
He has made a couple videos of thay
It’s a real good spot aye
Thanks for the suggestion mate - I’ve heard there are some good flathead upstream. I fish downstream at Nudgee a fair bit too. Cheers mate!
Is that on the incoming tide?
@@nigiessquidgies I go no matter the tides lol
Very nice 👌
Thank you very much mate - I thought you would like this one. Haha
Nice to see Scarborough again, especially Scarborough spit.. That spot can absolutely fire when its a calm early morning with the right tides. Thanks for the vid!
Hey mate! Yeah, it’s such a nice place. I was thinking nice and early there would be some BIG bream coming in close to feed in the shallow reefs and rock bars. Thanks heaps for your insight. Cheers!
I caught so many flatheads on the zman slim swim today down newport canal just around IGA you def should so flick some lures up there and make a vid bro!
Oh great vid btw loving it keep up the good work dude🫡
@@Antony-oh4tc thanks heaps for the suggestion mate - I really appreciate it. I’ll have to keep newport canal in mind for a future video. I’ve never actually fished there. I’ll hopefully be able to get up there soon and do a video. Cheers mate! Good luck with your fishing as well ! 💯 🎣

Cheers mate! I appreciate it, glad you enjoyed it. I’ve got another one uploading too! Take care mate & speak soon.
Nice work. Looks like I’ll be modifying one of my Sugarpens now.
Hey mate, yeah, that’s a good idea. I’ve modified all of my Sugapens now as well. Honestly the bream will hit them while they sit floating on the water! I’ll hopefully get out and fish them again soon. Appreciate it mate! Cheers!
another cracking video mate, i had so many questions at the start of the video because i struggle with plastics in the river but you answered all my questions throughout the vid. I'm gonna get a td black for chrissy but im getting the 2-6kg because i wanna use it for snapper with light plastics otherwise i wouldve gotten a 1-4.5. i should really try the brissy river around the rain because i wouldnt mind the kind of luck your having😂 all the best mate
Hey mate, thanks heaps for the good feedback. I really appreciate it. I’m trying to be a bit more descriptive in my videos and give some more tips as it’s not always easy to get fish in the Brissy river. The 2-6kg one is perfect for snapper - great choice mate! I have used a TD black 2-6kg rod for the Holt Prawn bream videos at Nudgee. It’s the Deepstriker 703MLFS (7 foot 3 piece)
@@nigiessquidgies all good mate, i cant wait but most bcf's and anaconda are out of stock for it but im getting it delivered anyway. how much less responsive is a 3 piece rod compared to a 2 or 1 piece do ya reckon?
@@junopettingill8169 the 1.5- 4kg rod is very responsive for targeting smaller estuary species. However, I think you are picking a good size rod with the 2-6kg as they are perfect for bigger bream, snapper, flathead and Jewfish. It’s just those little slight bites you won’t feel but honestly - snapper hit hard anyways. Another thing is the casting weight on the 2-6kg rod will give you more options to flick heavier lures. I have a 2-6kg rod with a Daiwa Legalis 4000 on it. It’s perfect for the estuaries.
@@nigiessquidgies sorry I was asking about the deep striker you said you used and was 3 piece. I was just wondering how the vibrations go through the multiple joins compared to a 1 or 2 piece rod, but anyway thanks for the advice / reassurance
@@junopettingill8169 The Deepstriker 7ft 3 piece is extremely nice to use. To be honest, once put together you wouldn’t know it had any joins in it at all. It’s solid and will fish perfectly all day long. I’ve caught everything from little bream to 50cm+ snapper and 60cm + Jewfish on it easily. It’s a good setup for travelling too nice and compact. The responsiveness is very good in that rod.
Hi what are the best tide and times for places like these pontoons? Crankbaits always seem to work but I struggle with soft lures.
Hey mate, the best times for flicking soft plastics in my experience are 1 hour either side of the high and low tides. Once the current has picked up and the river is flowing fairly steadily. For bait fishing it’s better on the incoming tides as it’s on its way to high. If you can line these tides up with a sunrise or sunset that’s a bonus. That’s what happened today. High tide at 4.30 and then fishing the 1 hour after at say 5.30pm just before sunset. Lining up the tides and sunrise/sunsets like this will help you catch good numbers of fish. It’s worth keeping an idea of all the fish you catch in particular places at different tides, moon phases and times of day. Then you can just fish the bite windows.
I can never catch in the Brisbane river 😅 but I went to nudgee beach after watching your videos today and my friend caught a nice bream on the wave minnow!
@@CharliesPrettySigma Hey mate! That’s fantastic news your friend was able to get a nice bream on the wave minnow at Nudgee beach - very well done! Nudgee is a good spot often overlooked by a lot of people. If you can master catching bream at Nudgee you will be able to catch them anywhere. In the Brisbane river you need to pay attention to the tides, moon phases, wind and find the bait fish and where the predator fish are sitting. It takes a lot of patience and persistence but there are some opportunities to hook BIG fish in the Brisbane River. So it’s worth learning. I’ll have to do a few more Brisbane river videos with some tips. Cheers mate & good luck with your fishing 🎣 💯
Hi what camera do you use? Thanks
@@DoomiePookie Hey mate, It’s a GoPro Hero 9 Black. It can film all the way up to 5k but I mainly film in 1080p to save battery life and memory. Cheers!
Hey, I’m passionate in watching your content and would love ti know the spot as I fish with an array of micro lures in a finess way and Brissie river is local if you don’t mind sharing your spot/pontoon. Kind regards Guy
@@gaffedbyguy Hey Guy, I hope you are well mate! Unfortunately, I can’t give you this spot as it’s one of my little spots haha. However, if you look up all the recreational pontoons/jetties around Brisbane they all fish well and you will be able to do this exact method and get fish. All spots around the river are firing at the moment after the rain. Just make sure it’s a recreational jetty where you are allowed to fish. 🎣 💯 Hope you are well mate! Keep going with your fishing!
Nice little spot there… fish after fish… clean pontoon there it is… 😊
@@drdonjuan9 Hey mate. Yeah, it was a great little session. Thank you. Lots of fish around at the moment with all this rain stirring up the water and bait. It’s going to be a good summer for fishing I reckon. ☀️ 🎣 💯 Have a Nice day mate!
This before all t rain mate
@@thebayslayer1 Hey mate, yes, this was last Sunday - the water was looking good and the weed was starting to clear up. I haven’t checked it since the rain but it’s pretty dirty in the Brisbane river at the moment lots of debris and things in the water now.
Mate...you did well to find water that calm! Sugapens are great lures. That type of fishing is great fun. 👍🎣 Cheers 🍻
Hey mate, yeah, it was a strike of luck finding some spots out of the wind up there. I like those Sugapens too. I might try a few others like the Sugapen splash and maybe one of the 95mm ones. Good luck with your fishing mate! Cheers 💯 🎣

Dude you really need to check out Scarborough Harbour I caught so many flatheads and a massive grunter there I reckon you should go give it a crack over there sometime
@@Antony-oh4tc Thanks heaps mate, I’ve been looking around on Google maps and think there would be some good spots up there to fish. @ all good buddy and just in case you don’t get much action inside the harbour you should try fish at the mouth that’s where all the big fish are!!
@@Antony-oh4tc Thanks for the tip mate - I'll give it a try soon. Appreciate it.
The assist hooks are great because it means even if the fish short strike it you'll still hopefully hook up. I think i might get a sling bag and trinkets to go wading and i have a few places in mind including woody point. Keep the good content coming Nigel!
@@junopettingill8169 Hey mate, I highly recommend those assist hooks. Honestly they work really well like you mention. Also, good idea to get a sling bag and do some flats/ estuary fishing. It’s definitely heaps of fun & helps build your shallow water lure fishing skills. I appreciate it mate & will do! Cheers 💯 🎣 🎥
Next time don’t let the fish hook you back 😉
@@Solarmax12 hahaha! Yeah, I can’t exactly add in the treble completely embedded in my hand which required plier removal and a lot of pain 😅 . Haha. I think the fish won this round but that’s just a part of the challenge.
Need to put some assists on mine they look mean as!
@@jamesallen3723 They are a fantastic upgrade to the lure. It means you won’t miss a single hit from bream. Plus you can keep the treble to upgrade your old sugapens front trebles with a new one. Highly recommend 👏 💯 🎣
You wear waders when you do this?
Hey mate, I have worn waders doing this type of fishing and they are extremely useful. However, my pair ripped and I haven’t replaced them yet. I was just wearing jeans socks and good quality shoes. There are a few sharp rocks, stonefish, sand crabs etc so I recommend either wearing waders or jeans with good socks and shoes or boots. Can’t be too careful out there.
those weed flats are filled to the brim with prawns-Went fishing at woody point few months ago and was really succesful, for bait i waded out shining a head torch at the weed and netting them and the bream and grunter were smashing them
Yeah, I was sure I saw a few prawns today as well. There was a lot of bait fish and things around there too. Smart idea going out with the head torch. Live prawns are great bait. I also got snapped off on a Daiwa Infeet Slippery Dog 80F lure. Something decent hit it and instantly snapped my 6lb. Cheers mate & good luck with your fishing.
@@nigiessquidgies i would guess it was a 40cm+ tailor that did the damage, either that or a big flattie. some guy caught a 78 cm one off the jetty and had to walk it to the start of the pier to get it in. im always to scared to go 6lb leader using lures because my leader knots suck and i dont really want to lose lures like that. Using the torch at night their eyes will glow pink so its super easy to see them-just 2 pink dots and a quick scoop. would recommend because buying prawns from bcf is dear atm.
Thanks! Have you been to the Scott's point for fishing?
No worries, I haven’t been fishing at Scott’s point before. I’ve heard it’s a good spot. I’ll have to give it a try in future videos. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi mate, do you think high or low tide is better for fishing these places?
@@zumode1627 Hey mate, it’s definitely better to fish these places on the outgoing tide in my opinion. I just keep walking out further and further as the tide gets lower. Outgoing tide is definitely best if you are fishing lures on the flats. If you had a boat or Kayak it would fish good on a high tide but you can’t access the good spots landbased at high tide.
AshSowman check out his channel 2yrs ago has a video for wind reduction for GoPros if you are interested under $5.00 fix worth a try?
Thanks for your videos they are informative and inspiring.
@@BarryBurroughs Hi mate, thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. No worries, always happy to share my fishing sessions and hopefully it helps others enjoy their fishing adventures and catch more fish. 🎣 💯 very much appreciated.
I went on a tinny of my mates a 2 weeks ago and he hooked up to a massive threadfin 500 meters up from the boat ramp but sadly it snappes off before we could net it. It hooked up at the surface really close in so we had no time to react and it smoked him and went around the anchor rope and snappes. Nudgee does get quite windy and it's a pain but you just gotta work with the conditions
Hey mate, yes, I have heard of people occasionally booking threadies or Jewies upstream. I mean it makes sense considering they are just around the corner at the port of Brisbane. Ahh damn, it’s hard losing good fish like that. Always more opportunities to catch good fish next time. Cheers mate!
