Wow.. under ground city. Kinda scarey in a way but awesome . Would never see this in my remaining life time . I don't travel now. Yrs ago, I knew Toronto quite well. Mostly brick back in my day. Now glass , marble or other shining materials. Thank for taking this video . I'm still trying to catch up. 😊 Fantastic. Keep up the amazing videoing. 👍💕
Thanks, Johnny! Worked at Yonge & Wellington from 1988-2012 then one year York & Bremner, before transferring to Mississauga and have travelled most of the route you took many, many times. Albeit of course, Union hadn't finished the transformation yet - but I've since been through it a couple of times.
there's definitely positives and benefits. huge plus to be indoors in the sweltering heat of july and the bitter cold of january, but it also means less activity at street level and less people advocating for a better surface mobility experience in the financial district. citynerd did a good video on minneapolis' skyway network, which is similar in concept to the path, and its effects on the pedestrian environment at street level in downtown.
Granted, I wasn't entirely paying attention to this buuttt there's a Banksy somewhere in the PATH (in one of the buildings on York, thinking Southcore) and it would be great if you could find it. For me. Lol.
I kind of like the "disjointed" look as the different sections have their own appearance. I had to look up the price of parking at TD Centre; it's $30. Considering it's $18 to park across from my workplace in downtown Pittsburgh and the exchange rate, it's not as bad as I would have thought.
Thank you for the vid. I use to work at King & University. The food court at 145 King Street West was renovated by the management company worked with. Same with the PATH tunnel leading up to St. Andrews Station - 150 King St. W. I miss Toronto and I miss working in this part of the Financial District. So many memories came flooding back and put a smile on my face. Love watching your vids in general. Keep up the great work.
finally finished all the path videos! never been to toronto but unsurprisingly the path is a lot more interesting than the pedway network we have here in edmonton
It's completely closed on the weekends (the PATH is only open on the weekdays for the patrronage of the people working in the businesses towers that are above it and which the PATH connects.)
Never been in the Path so this was a cool video. I’m in a wheelchair and headed to TO for an event at Scotiabank Arena this summer. Was considering parking at CIBC square and rolling across the Bay Street walkway. Are there elevator options available?
Yes, GO train or GO bus from Union Station in Toronto to the GO station in Niagara Falls. If the GO bus stops at Highway 420 and Stanley Avenue (one stop before the GO station), you can get off there and walk to Niagara Falls. From the GO station in Niagara Falls, you would have to take an Uber or the local bus (WEGO) to get to Niagara Falls, as it's too far to walk.
@@theyofactorIts actually not too bad of a walk from Niagra Falls to the Go train station. It took me about 45 minutes and it was quite pretty for much of the walk
Finally The PATH! I don't understand the door logic at the stations in Toronto, mostly heavy manual doors, very few automatic. They put an automatic revolving door but then right after that a manual door, quite weird :D
Each section was built with the building above it so there is little to no continuity to the system from a design perspective. It was also built in stages over many many years so standards, building codes and materials have changed over that time as well. It's a really really weird place that has its own corporatized kind of randomness to it. No reason to go there unless you have a reason to go there, or, it takes you from where you are to where you want to go. Liminal space. Still pretty cool though in my opinion and I'm glad it exist when it's +35c or -25c.
Seeing all of that barren empty trainshed roof is a little sad. I wish they'd make the whole thing into park space or at least a green roof to reduce urban heat island.
Great video. It's a whole other city down there.😊 Would like to see more walks in the PATH.

You're welcome and thank you for the support!
Yeah I heard Union Station is busy! Wow lots of new escalators in the CIBC Square
That's why you don't see many peoples walking in downtown, peoples walking in the underground, almost the whole DT is underground, it's AMAZING!

The PATH used to be called "the world's largest underground shopping mall" according to The Guiness Book of World Records.
Really enjoyed this one very much.
Good morning Johnny! Great tour around the CIBC Square Park during rush hour. I really enjoyed your commentary as well. Happy Thursday!!
Thanks Sepand!

Hey Johnny great video dude! I love the generous lady at 31:00

What a great video! I'd like to get into the city and take some time exploring around the PATH. What's it like in there on weekends?

@@Neville60001 I don't believe its completely closed as I've walked through on the weekends - but the businesses are mostly closed
Thanks for the information folks!🙂
@@Neville60001 Nope not closed on the weekends and some restaurants are open.
I would get lost 😮❤

Wow! I forgot just how noisy Toronto actually is.
Hello from Nova Scotia. Please tell me the best way to get from Toronto to Niagara Falls, for a day trip. Coming by Train in August. Thanks Johnny.
The GO train if it's running, if not the GO bus. Cheers

Good point.
Always baffles me too. I think it's more useful during winter to keep out cold draft and retain heat within

What is your role sir ?
