Enjoyable premier , nice to see Toronto rush hour , even though the sidewalks are wide those seems so narrow when all those people are on the move at the same time 😎Great video overall , thank you A K 🙂👍!!
This video kinda gave me a blackened Shadow vibe🙂. It was really great seeing Toronto through your excitement in video form. Thankfully you took us with you on your visit.
From an American perspective and where I'm from, downtown Toronto cityscape reminds me of a mix of Baltimore and D.C. Especially downtown Baltimore and D.C. it's literally like a mix a the two in the way downtown Toronto looks and feels.
This was a fascinating walk, AK! I've never been to Canada. Funny to see several ppl wearing shorts or t-shirts in those temps. 🥶 Those must be the truly hard-core Kanucks! 😆 What a lovely, clean city.
You do realize we have 4 seasons right? The time he recorded this video was in October. It was Fall season here. That’s why everyone is dressed differently because it’s cool weather
Great video! My first "real" job was with Prudential Insurance of America's Canadian head office at King and Yonge. The base of the building that housed "Pru" now has a Starbucks (at about 18:55), and, as far as I know, my former company itself is long gone from Canada. Enjoyed your commentary-free video and hearing the various snippets of conversation from passersby.
Once you came out of union Station, you should have turned right, walk to the next traffic light then walk up (north) on young street. That is where the hustle and bustle of morning rush is at. Thanks for the video though, now I know where I can get the bus that goes to bishop airport. I was wondering why ppl were looking at you when you pass them. Later I knew why because your phone was on gimble and I know that because of your reflection on one glass door 😁 Great video as usual.
45 years ago Toronto all we carried was apurse and an honest shopping bag while honestly shopping downtown taking the once popular ttc then going home not on a go train😊
16 months later and a lot busier downtown now after more people had to give up WFH. I was back in the office (King & Yonge) starting July 2022 and around March 2023 the noticed subway starting getting more and more crowded. And a lot more foot traffic on the sidewalks. Curiously Fridays are quieter, a lot less people getting off the subway at King Stn, I guess a lot of people still do WFH on Fridays.
the back packs you saw on the front are baby carriers - very popular here so parent and child spend their time face to face instead of being clamped to the parent's back - also used at times by eccentric pet owners
This is typical for most Canadian cities. Clean, not to packed with people. It feels civilized. Can't say the same for the 401 highway that cuts through northern Toronto. Now that's insane super heavy traffic.
The best places to walk are Yonge St, or Queen St out to the Beaches; not the best walk, through the financial centre, unless you're into looking at tall buildings. You walked right past Nathan Philips Square and the fountain to wander aimlessly west. I'd swear you were going round in circles by the end.
Very neat and well kept Downtown area. It's pretty chill for rush hour tho. I guess nowhere beats the sheer volume of pedestrians coming and going on the streets of Manhattan or specific areas of Tokyo
about half the people walking are doing so underground in the PATH system so without the PATH the side walks would be overwhelmed with people, that's one reason the PATH was build to increase pedestrian throughput.
The business district is picking up steam after the long lockdown (which was much more of a lockdown than in the US), and workers are returning to the office, but it's not up to pre-pandemic levels yet. I'm not even sure if Wall Street foot traffic is back to pre-pandemic levels. I love Manhattan, and have been visiting it since the late 70's, but sometimes we have to mentally "let go" of comparisons to Manhattan when we travel to other cities and just enjoy them for what they are. I think it would be a boring world if all cities were identical! :)

Canada will be at the bottom of the list. Over the years, New York has changed into a clean city. I think it's a cultural problem in Canada.
I have visited many countries. Litter is everywhere in the world. Canada does a pretty good job in keeping it clean. You should see litter in Melbourne, London, New York, Edinburgh, Berlin, Paris, etc. This is Canada. You should have know that many Canadian cities go through multiple cycles of freeze and thaw in the winter (as in -35 degrees one day and 5 degrees the next). It does a lot of damage to the asphalt. They spend billions on roads and highways. Litter on highways? Sure, there is (somewhat) but it gets cleaned up. Have you seen litter on American and British highways? Have you seen litter in Paris? Have you see litter on Melbourne highways? Have you seen litter in Auckland? Homelessness is a issue in many developed countries not just Canada. From this video, you can clearly see how clean and well-kept it is. Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary, Montreal consistently rank in top 10 most liveable cities on the planet. Calgary was recently ranked one of the cleanest cities on the planet. I don’t know what you’re on about.
