I agreed with your point at first during the screening of RRPK but I've thought about it and realised that the depiction of Dhanlaxmi is super realistic, and her dialogue "I'm too old to change" I found to be not just a hundred percent true but also, was her 'redemption' so to speak. Shes admitting that she might be wrong but that's the closest she can come. Some characters can only have some development I guess. If Karan had presented a moment of admission of guilt, it would have taken away from this idea, that not every person wants to change and is capable of change
I actually did not seek for any form of redemption for her. My issue was that the stoic demeanour at least regarding her own marriage is a front to keep the business running. A loveless marriage stems from something. I don't want her to come out as a loveable character but at least having the ability to vent behind closed doors with her husband, that the union is a two way street and that it was not easy for her too
@@TriedRefusedProductions But in the story, she was the first one to not accept her husband as he was. A poet rather than a businessman. She was cold towards him first and then he had an extra marital affair. They both found their own ways to cope up with their loveless marriage. While she took on the business, he took on the affair. and they both became who they were in the present day and eventually she became too rigid to change or didn't see any point in venting out because she had been silent for many decades already.
Oh, these toxic movies have completely ruined the concept of love and how to approach women in my growing years. Thanks to GVM for educating the 90's born male kids regarding these matters.
Anupama playing in background clearly depicts that after getting through so much.I think his taste is slowly getting changed.I won't surprised if jammy will be doing reviews on seema haider like the greatest critic on this planet. Edit:-And what is making me more worried is that I will be watching even if he does😭
You should read about the Alluda Majaka movie controversy, communists and the Hindu nationalists demanded a ban on the film as it contained a number of scenes portraying women in an obscene manner. CBFC called back the movie after 3 months of release and made cuts to objectional scenes. There is a thesis written on this controversy. Megastar Chiranjeevi fans went on a hunger strike when CBFC was considering a ban on the film. It's very interesting to read about Telugu cinema evolution.
Fun Fact: Vishal (who played Lead in Thimiru) later became Sriya Reddy's Brother-in-law after she married Vikram Krishna (Older Brother of Vishal) in 2008.
You should make videos on the cringeworthy hospital/ medical scenes on starplus serials...and the toxic behaviour of the male leads in the same serials...mostly across all channels
I think they had a longer dhanlaxmi backstory.. But a dhanlaxmi and kawal conversation.. Where she thinks he's out of it and won't remember anything and her taking her heart out and at the end dharam ji just apologising for his absence as well.. 👌💯💯
Like you could have given me anything! There is a point where she has to be more than just the one dimensional arrogant person. She has so much built up emotion and resentment that deserved to be expressed somewhere!
@@TriedRefusedProductions I just watched rrkpk and would like to share my views on this point too. I think its rightly portrayed that she did not have her moment of any realisation or venting. Because that is very real life like. If every character had had developed it would be just fictional like "oh it is a movie and movies end happily ever after".It would have left a perfect life and happily ever after effect which in reality is not true rather people and families have imperfect people and grudges they all just manage together. Especially when it comes to old people its not very real to admit mistakes or say sorry have guilt so many old people they carry trauma from their time as well as patriarchal rules which they amend accordingly to their surroundings but not necessarily accept on ammending it. Small instances of these things can be seen in our normal Indian families. Alot of times mothers/wifes they just accept and live like that and I've personally seen my father accepting the changing society not on face but because we don't leave any other choice. Same happened with Jaya she knew its not possible to change now she has nothing left on her but she can just go on with whatever is happening. Edit: Also to add, by the end of movie I didn't considered Jaya as villian so I don't think she needs to be termed one she just had her patriarchal rules and her owning of business and being the head of house just added more dominance on her character. She was not a villian but a product of her own upbringing which doesn't need to have a heartfelt backstory. Cause in reality people are just like this alot of head people of families are like this without any back story. Alot of mother in laws are like this and in countries like us there are alot of loveless marriages so for me its completely okay to for once see that no not everyone is perfect but always on scale/scope of development.
I'm not an Indian but an African girl who loves watching Indian movies ❤. I swear I love your channel because it never fails in letting me know what movies I should avoid while also making me laugh to tears 😂😂💜. Keep up the good work 👏🏾!
I agree about Dhanlakshmi, the first thing I said after leaving the theatre was we never got her why for being so bitter, and it's not hard to just fill in the blanks but it left something to be desired when we didn't get to see her as a human feeling other emotions beyond taking an ego-trip or the like. Though, I did come across a theory in my voyage to catch as many reviews as I could that since the makers didn't want to redeem her they shied away from anything that would make viewers sympathetic to her. Also, thank you for for the series!
The creepiest thing is an act is not independently wrong or right, it depends on who does it. If the villain does it, the heroine is dusgusted by it (which she should obviously feel) and the hero punishes villain for it. But the hero also does same act many times in the first place (which he shouldn't have done bcoz he is the morally right person) & the heroine likes the act, sometimes falls in love due to that. Its so wrong at so many levels. I remember 1 of Main tera Hero, Varun first spanks Jackeline on the ass and then kisses her at a shopping store not even at a personal space, after that she falls for him, my god what will happen if youth get inspired by such kind of acts😵💫😵
@@TriedRefusedProductions 😂😂 yeah right, my bad -Judwa 2. I don't know why, but both the movies appear quite similar to me, similar slapstick cringy comedy, Varun's same character, and similar tropes!
Films are the biggest impression maker. And youth do get inspired by it. I saw a heroine who was telling her co actor miss behaved with her so she slapped him, in turn that co actor also slapped her. And ppl were commenting that this is equality. So u disturb a girl and she slaps u, in turn u should slap her, surprisingly many ppl had this mindset in that comment section. Tells us that youth is damaged by seeing these films which are full of masculinity 🙂
@@kvtechvarshney5179 there are less number of films which shows unnecessarily a heroine beating the hero. It won't be acceptable by those audiences. While if the reverse is done, people do enjoy it. I have seen it many times. This is where masculinity tops in films.
Hey jammy, about Dhanlaxmi’s character in the movie, I think it was pretty natural because I have literally crossed path with someone like her and it’s very normal for people with her character to hold on to their ego till the end. I personally found it very realistic.. a sudden change and softening of heart would have been more unrealistic I think. But that’s just my opinion based on the real life experience I have with someone like her. She was shown as someone who only cared for herself more than anyone else.
Actually my point with the film is not me wanting a change of heart from her but actually a one on one vent session at least with Dharmendra about her experience in the marriage and why she took the stoic stance. Of how she felt unseen too!
@@TriedRefusedProductions but that’s the thing.. people like the character shown do not bother engaging in that vent or a one on one. Their ego is too huge to even do that. She had a very narcissistic/ psychopath trait where everything was only from her perspective. At least that’s how I saw it. But it’s interesting to view it from your perspective too. 😊
In my 90s childhood, if any cringe scene like this comes before family, i used to rush towards TV and change the channel with knob. in 2003, when first color tv came, remote was always ready. My father used to say "che che.. these movies.. change the channel". experiences with cringe is very relatable.
Hey Jammy. Thank you for bringing up the character Dhanlaxmi in this video. I was quite happy to see that they shared her "origin story" in the beginning to help audiences understand why she is the way that she is, and maybe even empathize with her. While some people were able to hold on to that, others forgot about it and it would have been nice if her character had also had a chance at redemption of some kind. I think in a recent interview, Karan Johar also admitted that the one incomplete character arc in the movie is that of Jaya Bachchan's character. Anyway, this is always a fun series to watch :)
You made my day Jammy!!!❤❤ I d been suggesting Thimiru for such a long time! Thank you for including this gem where it belongs... 😊😂 but am also so happy you liked Shriya Reddy's performance.. She is one of the best female nagative characters after Neelambari in Padayappa.. I never understood why being slapped by the hero always made heroine fall in love with him.. The sheer number of 80s movies that has this trope is mind boggling... 😢
am so happy to have helped you here! 😂.. On a different note- you should consider doing a MKB segment based on "double meaning lyrics" - am sure these are there in all languages.. But my 'inspiration' for this idea especially comes from Tamil songs... 😢 some of them seriously ruined my childhood.. And definitely deserve a place in this segment.. am sure you'll never run out of content here...
What you say is very true about Jaya ji's role in the movie Rocky aur rani ki prem kahani. I don't understand why she was made the ultimate villain while she made the ultimate sacrifice on top of which this family was built. All the wealth, the luxury and the lifestyle, the family is able to afford was built because of her hardwork and discipline. There was no reason to have made her so insufferable. All strong women are mostly shunned upon by our society - since either they don't understand them or they can't stand their ability to wither any storm - that could be the director's reasoning for making Jaya ji's character the way he did - it is quite unfortunate. My heart went out to her thru out the movie - she also suffered from a loveless marriage just as much as the others. Why were they glorified and why was she not? She was forced to take on the reins of running the family since nobody else were upto it. That should not be the reason that would provoke so much hatred.
This Jaya Bachchan observations were made by me too when I saw the movie. Every character in this movie got a graph and history but hers was just shown as an evil woman. It would be great if her evolution was also shown.
My god the last entry here has sent chills down my spine.... Because not long ago we saw in reality a Naked Woman being paraded in front of a crowd of men.... (Not A Movie Scene) . . . They say movies don't create any impact on society but when you so easily showcase that you can gang up on them and do something like this.... Urgghhhh! 9:41
Totally agree with your take on RARKPK! Also, if what happened in the movie were to happen for real, it is disrespectful for Jaya to watch her husband kiss another woman in front of her. They basically endorsed having an extra marital affair. If Jaya knew about her husband's affair, she would have had the option to leave him.. but what she gets instead, is her son and his family bashing her for not keeping the family together and making ends meet. The story telling was too one sided and I think Alia's character was responsible for that black and white perspective.. atleast ranveer's character had some layers
You missed Arjun Reddy, and a whole lot of 90s movies, where heros would slap heroines to prove a point, or kiss them in public to humiliate them and then came an era of movies where heros would end up marrying two heroins.
In Telugu 80's and 90's saw a rise of commercial cinema catering primarily to labour class. This was also the period where Telugu cinema's art declined on mainstream cinema and Bollywood's commercial cinema influenced South industries. Thankfully Telugu cinema is going back to content.
Rocky aur Rani had several problematic moments. The glorification of cheating and justifying it by saying the partner was abusive is laughable. Get a divorce and then pursue your romance. Kissing your lover in front of two families and calling it romantic is just gross! For all the amazing moments in the film, Jayaji was given a very poorly written character.
I think she chose the character of Dhanalakshmi to show the audience why she behaves like this in real life. She has endured a similar kind of betrayal (actually more toxic) from her real life partner. And like in this movie, in real life too, audience praise the man and his mistress and blames the wife for being aggressive. It's not always her ego, it's how she copes with the situation. She needs a partner who will love her and can be trusted, in both reel and real life.
I also think in Rocky Rani, they should've explored Jaya Bachchan's character in a better way. This could be because they didn't have the time to explore as the movie was lengthy enough or to showcase how Alia's character will be the pioneer of change in Ranveer's family. Either way, Jaya Bachchan's character didn't deserve what she got as she was suffering as well due to her circumstances.
Jammy, they did have the letter scene that Jaya's character addressed to Alia's character right. I felt that it was a decent closure, because Jaya went so far in making life hell for everyone else, it can't be just fair to just let go of it immediately. But I did feel it would've been a slightly better closure if she had been there in the climax wedding song, sitting a bit far from the close family, with some of the guilt she'd be possessing. As a first mark of acceptance, ranveer and alia would go to her to seek blessings, but then she apologies similar to how Amitabh Bachchan's character did with SRK in K3G. Fin. 😂
The thimiru movie plotline could be silly, but its that bit exaggerated reality of the how one from that region and mannerism, could have behaved in so called movie, so still fine with it. But the last chiranjeevi movie, is so problematic, I wonder how heroines of those days, just accepted those roles and scenes.
I was travelling in a bus from Kerala to Karnataka. Next to me was an empty seat and came a girl. The conductor asked her if she wants a different seat since I am a man. This was a direct attack on me. But the girl said, its okay I will sit here only. And nothing happened full night. We talked a bit and then we slept. Morning we got down in our stops. Simply the media and women sensationalise things about safety etc.
THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THE PROBLEMATIC PLOT LINE OF GEETA GOVINDAM. I'm a telugite who loves Telugu movies with a passion, but how do they make such scenes okay 😭😭🚩
I don't think in Geeta Govindam they want to justify that bus kiss...After that kiss when geeta slapped him and there was a serious background music also...Also when Govind was thinking of kissing her while she was sleeping he immediately regreted that thought and later regretted his actions infront of her friends also while they were drinking..He said my one mistake creates a bad impression on Geeta and I never can face her after that...
The problem actually is while his conscious kicks in not wanting to kiss her as she is asleep. He still finds it justifiable to take a selfie with an unconscious woman that he barely knows. The issue is that!
@@TriedRefusedProductionsEven later Geeta took selfie with him while he was sleeping..But yes I think Because of his friend's dumb advices Vijay actually started thinking that the girl is interested in him and because of that he took selfie and thought later he can take her number also... 0:36 na mate, it can affect your mental health. Kudos to you, coz of your kuch bhi series. I have avoided so many movies. Thanks for taking bullet for us.
In Geeta Govindam, it's more about the sudden change of heroine thought about hero after hearing of his refusal of love interest towards other girl. After that, all his mistakes aren't mistakes anymore. Why change of heart when he did an absolutely & undeniably wrong thing? Can't she stand on her point and straight forward marry another guy? Another cringe in all movies is that to establish hero has a greater arc, some other character has to play as a fool & comedy character.
Recently I saw a cringey clip of a movie. I don't know the name. Manisha Koirala and Shilpa shirodkar not sure. It was a operation scene.manisha was operating the hero. Light goes out. Shilpa burns her clothes one by one to keep the light. Ant the operation is successful.

I agree on your take on the problematic tropes. And the movie you are talking about Judwaa 2
@@itsmedip1406 its not masculinity to trouble someone.

6:42 I think this is the best representation of that guy in your group with relationship advice they should not be dispensing lol

Loved Loved Loved the indirect shade you threw at Anupama😂. I'm sick and tired of that BS!
