Bringing people back from the dead using AI ain’t new anymore.
But in this case, at least for me, is an almost-20-year wait finally over. For those who don’t know me, I’m a big AC/DC fan. And for those who don’t know AC/DC they have a history full of ups and downs. In 1980, they were at the very top with a just released album, but his lead singer Bon Scott was found dead in a car outside London.
But what would you do as a band after that tragedy? The Young Brothers hired Brian Johnson to lead the voice of one of the best selling rock & roll records of all time. “Back In Black” was not only the name of the album but also a song powered enough to pay respect and make a farewell to their fellow friend.
So today, on its 43th anniversary, Bon Scott sings one more song celebrating a worth listening comeback thanks to artificial intelligence. I trained his model using Retrieval based Voice Conversion with more than 90k steps using his voice on the records released from 1976 to 1979.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it. Thank you AC/DC for your music and using the same stages in your videos. And thank you Bon for using the same clothes and covering your mouth with the mic for the lipsync.

Bon would have sung it in his regular pitch with some high pitched screams here and there. Also, all these AI versions are based on Brian’s phrasing, pitch and delivery. Brian held the notes out far longer than Bon would have. That’s why I’ve been saying, what is needed is a vocalist who loves Bon, knows his phrasing, cadence and every nuance based off of studio _and_ live recordings. Then sing the BIB songs based off of Bon’s trademar so that it’s more in his style and not Brian’s.
That is what is needed to _really_ give us an idea of how Bon would have sounded on the album.
The lyrics would have been better, I’m certain of that. But Malcolm, Angus and possibly Mutt Lange rewrote anything that was a little too clever. As “Bon: The Last Highway” author Jesse Fink had found out from his 6 years of research, that’s how the band worked. Bon would write the first draft of lyrics and the brothers Young would go over them and suggest any rewrites to Bon, then he would rewrite some lines to their satisfaction. It this time Bon wasn’t there so it was up to them, Malcolm I’m particular, to rewrite them.
    That’s-a my belief.

Completely agree. The only thing that I do not share with you is the fact that having Brian’s voice is objectively a far better solution to not having Bon with us anymore. If you want to have an impersonator just hear the impersonator himself and that’s it. There’s no magic. Is the human talent doing its job. When you use Brian’s voice is the AI purely doing it’s job on a voice take that has no judgment whether is right or wrong. When you add the human touch of an impersonator you enter into a whole new world of conversation around how the faking must sound.
