  • When visiting a Shinto shrine, for the first time or even the eleventh time, a person can feel unconfident and wonder "is this really the right way to pay my respects"? This video, "Hajimete-no-Jinja - Gokito (Prayer Service)" explains the Shinto gokito ceremony and how to request a prayer service at a jinja (shrine).
Safe home, successful business, easy pregnancy, passing a test, or warding off evil... a gokito is a formal prayer service offering personal requests to the kami (deities). The ritual consists of purification, reciting the request, and then offerings of a dance and tamagushi (sakaki plant). Afterwards you will receive an o-fuda (amulet). It is from the kami so do handle it with care. At home, place it on the kamidana or an o-fuda stand and continue to pay your respects.
Kamidana-no-sato is proud to offer the largest selection of Shinto household shrines (kamidana) in Japan. We want to make it easier for people to pay their respects and be shrine savvy, so we put together the video series "Hajimete-no-Jinja" (First Shinto Shrine).

Thank you kamidananosato 神棚の里🙇🏼‍♂️ This is a very helpful and well filmed video about Japanese Shinto Culture ⛩ it really helps to those who doesn’t speaks Japanese language to have a better understanding in Shinto. But I have a question here, don’t know if someone can answer or explain for me. In this video, I did not see any part revolves with Japanese-words-saying prayer from the Kigan (Invocation) section, just silently pray in heart from the Wisher がんしゅ【願主】then can someone please tell me why the Fushimi Inari Taisha’s staff holds a card written in English says sorry the prayer only in Japanese don’t have English version to refuse to perform the Gokito ごきとう【御祈禱】for me ?

Thank you for watcing the our channel.
This video doesn`t show the scene of Shinto priest.
We can`t point the camera because Kami( www.jinjahoncho.or.jp/en/shinto/index2.html ) is very precious.
Many shrines don`t offer English language services because the rituals at shrines are performed in Japanese.
※But it depends on all shrines.
