    The Waltons - The Celebration episode. John Walton (Ralph Waite) pays off their mortgage. Olivia (Michael Learned) and the family all work to fill a lumber order. Ike & Corabeth (Joe Conley & Ronnie Claire Edwards) face financial disaster. I share behind the scenes insights into this episode from Season 6.

    In my neck of the woods in Canada, The Waltons is on Vision TV everyday at 2pm. If I am home I watch it with a cup of tea and a snack! Each time I watch The Waltons, I am reminded of what quality TV it was. Based on true events, I loved the Narrator Earl Hamner, who always let you know what happened to certain people. The Waltons is part of my childhood, my Mom was such a fan. It will always be part of my memories and for this I am grateful. Thank-you Judy for this wonderful UA-cam channel. You look great today, by the way. Blessings. 🙏🙏🙏

    I like this episode when the family comes together. It reminds me of the Little House on the Prairie episode called, "The Richest Man in Walnut Grove", where Charles doesn't get paid for a large job he did at the mill because the customer goes bankrupt or something. These types of stories remind us that teamwork, many times, helps families become rich from their know how.
    This happened in my family when a windfall came our way and allowed us to pay off a lot of outstanding debt. Thank you Judy along with the cast and crew for making The Waltons a memorable series.

    I love the burning of the mortgage. When my grandfather (born in 1908) retired from the railroad (a machinist) in the 70’s, we burned his overalls in a laugh filled family celebration. Those greasy overalls went up fast! A great episode that reminded me of my grandpa. Mary

    I loved this episode and how the family worked together to accomplish this goal, just as they all did in "The Deed" to raise money to secure the rights to the mountain.
    Ike actually helped the Waltons by organizing the group that helped John finish building the new mill in "The Venture."

    It's always a great day when the mortgage is finally paid off! Especially so for The Walton's during the Great Depression. Your pretty green blouse is appropriate for a money-themed episode Judy! I was surprised by Marsh Woolery's outfit! Quite shocking especially in a conservative small village. I truly felt sorry for Ike! Usually he is chipper and optimistic. Joe Conley did a very fine job showing how fearsome Ike's situation was. Thanks for sharing The Walton's stories with us fans, Judy! Blessings for Walton's everywhere! 💚💚💚

    Love the style of your green top Judy!! Good episode, so funny when Marcia Woolery shows up at the celebration with the Reverend, wearing that skimpy top!! lol, Corabeth faints in shock!! lol, she is so offended by her bare midriff!! Ike was being greedy by buying all those refrigerators, Olivia said they would never help the Waltons out, if it was the other way around. John was very kind to help Ike and Corabeth. William Phipps, who played John Martin, was in the movie “Homeward Bound”, about two dogs, a cat, and a family, in 1993. Great movie!! Ralph Waite was the voice of Shadow, the dog in “Homeward Bound 2, Lost in San Francisco “.❤️

    Hi Judy,I just love this humourous episode of the family celebrating together and also extending their happiness and good fortune by supporting and helping their friends. The use of the funny subplots with Marcia Wollery's extravagant entrance,Cora Beth's double fainting episodes,and little extras like your reaction,when you get kitchen/meal preparing duty ( probably one of Mary Ellen's least favourite tasks?) and your humourous reaction! Wonderful acting,writing,& directing,with your added trivia. Thank you,for making me smile and laugh once again.

    Hi Judy! Yes, that episode was a good one. I can relate to finally paying of the mortgage and how that makes you feel. I love it when the reverend brings a hussy to the party! Lots of life's lessons to be learned here about finances and friendships etc. On another note, I discovered recently that before the Waltons came on the House and barn and set I guess was used on another show. Mayberry RFD! I bought that series on DVDs and couldn't believe my eyes! There are subtle differences but no doubt the same house, barn John boys shed and in one episode at least John boys bedroom from the Homecoming! Just a fun observation. Thanks for sharing!

I doubt that would happen in that time period.😂 My 7 year old great granddaughter says her color is purple and when her sister was born last year, she promptly said her color was yellow. Was that the last the audience saw of Marcia Woollery? I guess she must have thought that a mortgage-burning party was the same as a luau .
    Of course, considering how Corabeth herself all-but-spelled out to Olivia how she herself was enthralled with Rev. Buchanan, I wonder if she was hoping that if he found a plain wife, the wife would have been easier for Corabeth to overwhelm.
    Oddly enough, the only Walton's Mountain minister who seemed to have been married was Rev. Fordwick and he had started out a bachelor before taking a shine to Miss Rosemary Hunter.
    Well, at least John DID discuss with Olivia being a cosigner before he actually committed himself to doing that to keep Ike from going belly up with those bad refrigerators despite the fact that he COULD have just done it without her blessing (or, for that matter, approval) .
    Interesting episode! Thanks for the review!

    Good day Judy, what a wonderful segment. Love how you break down and explain the episodes into bite size pieces. Gotta love poor Corabeth. Didn't take much to cause her to faint. Hope she had plenty of smelling salt in her purse. Have a question for you about subplots. I think subplots are kinda like mini stories mixed in with the main story/plot. How important are subplots and are they necessary to drive the story forward? Just wondering if they were/are used as fillers or used to make episodes more interesting. Thanks Judy.

      Ideally a subplot ties to the main plot and both forward the story and an are important to the overly message of the episode.

    I was able to get a hold of a copy of Earl Hamner Jr.'s book Good Night John Boy through the Georgia library system recently. There are only 4 copies of it statewide, so I had to wait a bit for it to make it to me. Pretty interesting read from his perspective. Still enjoying watching an episode here & there from various seasons along it's run. Thanks Judy for preserving The Walton's like you have through this UA-cam channel. I paid off my mortgage this year, just in time for the HVAC and water heater needing to be replaced. I don't think John & Olivia would have had to worry about these items. (I do appreciate the timing and am grateful I had the extra money to replace them and appreciate the conveniences.) I always enjoyed the insufferable dramatics of Cora Beth, humorous to observe on a television show; I would think a challenge to manage the relationship in real life. I can think of one such relative who is kind-hearted with redeeming qualities but always dominates conversations, always knows best, and always feels compelled to play matchmaker.

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  3 місяці тому

      I understand. Perhaps Corabeth is more fun to watch on TV than to experience for real :) Although I adored Ronnie Claire who was larger than life in real life and always a source or interest and enjoyment and humor.

      @@judynorton2598 I do have a lot of fondness for the Corabeth character and also for Ronnie Claire. I remember reading an article with accompanying photos about her acquiring a church / cathedral and converting it into her house. It was definitely a larger than life endeavor. Did you ever visit her in this home? I believe she passed not long after I read the article and I was very saddened to hear of her death. Corabeth definitely added humor to The Waltons and I hope my comments were not overly negative.

    An excellent episode and one amongst many that showed just how close the Waltons and Godseys were. Ike had helped John and his family in so many ways in the past and it was only right for John to do likewise on this occasion. That Marsha was a bit of a "hussy" though and always seemed to manipulate the guys around her but this just all added to the entertainment values of the show. Glad John boy was finally weary of her. Thank you Judy for todays delightful segment and best wishes as always to you from your waltonian superfan in a cool rainy England😉

    One of my fave episodes. The story harks back to the 3rd season and 'The Venture'. Claire Whitaker informed me that the writer Marion Hargrove was a man. John remembered how Ike saved them in 1935. Olivia forgot. Was it written in the script that Olivia should wear jeans or did Michael suggest it? I love: "What would be the Christian thing to do?"

    Kind of a case of switched roles. Usually the Godseys always had more disposable cash than the Waltons. I imagine Corabeth was glad she didn't have to sell all of her finery to get them out of debt. Fun episode.

    I'm working my way through all The Love Boat episodes. I watched S5 E13 starring you with Robert Fuller, then the very next episode had Mary McDonough with Dean Butler! All performances well done! Question: Were those episodes shot entirely on sound stages, or was there an actual cruise ship involved? I've heard some actors say they went on an actual cruise, especially the episodes to exotic locations.

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598  3 місяці тому +1

      Mostly the show was done on the set on the soundstage. They did occasionally go film on a real cruise ship. I’m not sure if it was once a season or less frequently. You could tell by how much wind was blowing the actors hair around.
