When asked, who is your favourite artist? Or inspection for becoming artist? Most of my friends would say different artists names like Pablo Picasso, Leonardo Da Vinci etc. But when it was my turn I have always said one name Jess Karp! I would even go to the extent of pulling out my phone and opening UA-cam and show it in their face with one of your videos playing!! 😅😅

as an amateur artist, I try to learn from my kids. My 5yo daughter has so much creative energy and she has this fearlessness, she just goes for it, she draws the first thing that comes to her mind, she experiments, she doesn't worry about "ruining" he artwork, and I love that, I strive to be more like her:)

I am at this stage now when I don't really like my drawings so I can ruin them or be very bold and harsh and draw a mess in my kitchen. I have to admit I create a very fun art now. Instead of striving for perfection all the time.

@jesskarp they are the size of trading cards. Bristol paper I believe is normally used. But the artist can design the card as they want and are then able to trade their art with another artist thereby acquiring a unique collection of art!
Jess, do you just come up with these sketches from nothing or references? What inspired this beauty?
I hate that I can't paint in a meditative state much right now with small children. When I get the chance, I feel like I only have an hour or 2 tops during nap and it kind of puts me on edge. Otherwise I feel I could paint for hours and hours on end.

For the past 8 weeks I have been using just one sketchbook without giving me the possibility to explore other kinds of media. I have 4 brand new sketchbooks just sitting in my art room. I completely forgot about them!!!! Thank you once again Jess... Sometimes, for us the grownups, situations arise and you have to make the best of the day, even with just one sketchbook. What we, grownups, need to do is find someone that will helps us daily to open our sketchbooks and just draw and find ways to let go. And that someone is YOU. Thank you for keeping this old lady drawing almost every day. The day will come when I will be able to draw and paint all day! In the meantime.... there are lots of Jess's videos to watch and help me everyday!!!! Blessings to you!!

I'm amazed that you can get colored pencil to work on top of gouache, it doesn't work so well for me, I think I paint quite thickly with the gouache and lose the tooth of the paper. Well, this was just beautiful! I hope to see more gouache here again soon. Thanks for sharing.

Your painting looks so good! Love the light and the shading in the painting! (Question, what type of gouache did you use in the video? It's giving me jelly gouache vibes but I could be wrong lol)
I had this in the background while I was working on a gouache study (I'm currently in the process of repainting a Jurassic Park scene [the first one])

Incredible! This ended up being so much more than a sketch! Great point about eliminating distractions. Every artist has to find their own way with that, and it's sometimes very hard to do. For a lot of us, it starts with giving yourself permission to work on art- if you're a caregiver, or have other demands on your time, it's easy to feel guilty about setting aside time for yourself. Jess is great at reminding us that making art is good for us, and something we all deserve in our lives!

This painting is gorgeous. I feel like my five year old self would be doing is drawing flamingos and cats again. I grew up going back and forth to the hospital for as long as I can remember. My art has always been my way to heal and hobby. I hope to one day create a safe studio space where I can help others reignite their creative expression. I want to call it Phoenix Studio and the slogan is a place to reignite the lost creative spark from the ashes. My five year old self would be really happy I'm still drawing and be amazed on me embracing my scar more.

The glow around her head is amazing. I love the colour palette you used, and the scribbles along her arm gives such a surprisingly great touch! Only thing is her right arm still looks a tad bit too long, i guess this i why you were trying to fix the sleeve.
