I admire the relationship you have with art, younger me was so attached to the starving artist archetype, constantly struggling, having a love - hate relationship with it, searching for perfection. Seeing new artists approach art in a loving and wholesome way is so beautiful, it's changing my perspective completely, thank you for that :)

Love the new space! When I first started with oils I accidentally bought the water soluble once and for many years I was convinced that I had bought the wrong types of oils. But now I feel like it's very handy that they are water soluble, specially since I have my creative corner in my living room.
I am very into watercolors/mixed media at the moment and I would love to try gouache, but like always I can't decide which colors to start with.

I actually only used regular oil paints maybe twice in my life, and while I loved how creamy and smooth they go on and blend, I have a nasty reaction to turpentine. I only learned years later of odorless spirits and Gamsol, and was planning on trying those when I learned of water mixable oils. Not only do I use those, but I learned of this amazing medium called Shminke Medium W: It turns regular oils into water mixable oils!! Combined with the water mixable linseed oil, I can now oil paint with any color I want, no fumes and it actually takes 24 hours to dry instead of weeks!
EDIT: Also, the view from your studio is amazing! I'd love a place like that to escape every now and then ♥

I'm about 7 minutes in and I'm in awe. Ironic though it may not be, the advertisement for therapy may have a hard time competing with the lessons taught within this very video. And that is, the therapy people seek is possible by themselves. As an artist, or as a creative soul, you need to be expressing yourself. And this video teaches you how easy it is to practice new fun things. Because remember, it's supposed to be fun. Be patient with yourself.

Thanks, Jess for such a laid-back video and yet so much inspiration especially I believe for artists like myself, that are always pushing away the itch of wanting to create our own art and too busy trying to do everything else, to keep the business going. The one-man show can get overwhelming and as much as I know doing my own art would help me unwind I just never get around to doing it. It would be really nice if you could talk about being a full-time artist, and being the one-man show, and although its really cool, what are really the challenges you may face, cause I am sure many are going through it, not much is talked about. How to keep yourself still up and going and give time for yourself.

Hi Jess, I'm new to your channel, your video was suggested to me by UA-cam and I have to say I am so glad that it was! First of all what an amazing studio, you have the most beautiful art studio in such a stunning setting, I don't know what part of the world you live in but it is amazing! Even though I have a fear of open water it does look so peaceful and picturesque. To be able to combine your passion and turn it into a successful career is the ultimate goal, a goal many of us aspire to attain and your video was really inspiring. I love to watch artists create art in the traditional way it is so satisfying to watch instead of digital art. Your paintings are so beautiful and I found your video so relaxing to watch, I shall definitely be subscribing for sure.... I wish you all the love and best wishes from the UK, I wish you continued success with your amazing art and with your channel too, may it continue to inspire new artists to pick up a paintbrush and create, God Bless Jess xx

I started learning to paint with cobra artist, which is also a heavenly type of water Mixable oil. It’s actually oil paint with a soap like substance added to be able to mix it with water. I like cobra because of their mediums: they have painting medium, glazing medium and quick drying medium. Really nice seagulls! You inspire me to create :)

This is such an amazing video and it has really inspired me to keep going with my work. I also love the water oil paints! I love oils but I'm very sensitive to solvents so I will definitely look into these paints. Thank you for sharing! 💕

Hey Jess! LOVE your glass-walled seaside studio!!! It's perfect! I could dwell forever in the soothing sensory environment you created for yourself. Water-mixable oils are new to me, too. Thanks for the demo and sharing. The hot pink background for your lovely subjects was a brilliant complement to their gorgeous gray-blue tones. I'm torn btw results of the two brushes used for feathers. The first gave fine results, the fan brush gave soft results. It's very subjective. Both birds came out very nicely. Watching you relax and reflect afterwards was relaxing in itself. Reminds me of bonus moments in my usually fully booked natural health practice, when it magically worked out that I could join family and friends for dinner out or at their place. Lotsa love from Louisiana.

I am FINALLY back in my studio and painting. Woot! I've also finally got a camera mounted to my art board so I can film... not something I've done before, I've just mainly taken stills. We'll see how it goes. Glaod you are able to make more time to create! I find creating a very therapeutic activity. Love that bird with the flaring hot pink background. Very colorful! ❤😎
