Why didn't you think Verstappen would also pit? I was watching with my mother - who's getting to know F1 better now - and I told her two laps before the pit stop: "Seems like it's time for Hamilton to pit. You see the increase in his pace the gap will close to roughly a second behind Verstappen. The thing is, while this looks like setting up an undercut, Mercedes will probably think Red Bull won't pit Verstappen as well, being a bit biased because Russel is trying to make it for the full race on the mediums, while Red Bull will think Mercedes is giving Hamilton enough laps to re-catch Verstappen and probably overtake him, so Verstappen's in on the next lap. So while it seems like a well-timed undercut and they could even use Russell to slow Verstappen down, I'm sure it will be a missed opportunity once again". Honestly, that's what I told her, cause at this point, even your mistakes are entirely predictable, just as the ensuing attempt to present them as the logical things to do. It has developed into a pattern by now. But then again, it didn't even occur to me that you didn't even tell Hamilton to push, so yeah.
This is what I don't get. They knew they had pitted Lewis, why did George not slow down Max further to get the undercut?
Exactly, I literally said, they could even use George to slow max down so much that Lewis could jump max and George, that would have gained the TEAM the most points.
Thanks Shov and Team. I have been waiting for this. Off to Canada 🇨🇦. All the best Team keep pushing. 💪
LH44 needs a bit more consistency in the Quali. That way he starts ahead of George.
I will say it looks a bit weird seeing Lewis so great in FP1, 2 &3 and then fell of the cliff in Quali.
And fans keep asking Shov to help clarify why this is happening but all he does is ignore the f8cking question
@@user-tf8qf3kb5e they'll keep dodging these questions till december

That was a great idea to bring an upgrade as soon as it's available. All of that hard work and innovation is bound to pay off. Playing catch-up is hard but necessary. It will be all worth in the end. Keep pushing.
That's what you do, upgrade once it's available. It's not a great idea.
But if it doesn't work u see it early
@@sdcraig You're entitled to a difference of opinion. Be well my friend.
Thank you for working hard team 👏
F1 is so subtle. So many small things having an affect on the car.
Ok so the next upgrade will go to Lewis and then George and then Lewis etc etc, I will remember that
Great explanations into the strategy and thought processes behind the scenes!

The PR game in full display…🤔
debrief on how we got it wrong this race too
Why is Mercedes racing Max are not the three other cars in the front 🤔 🇱🇨🇲🇸🇬🇧
Maybe the idea was stopping Max because he is far away in the points, so keep Verstappen as close as they can while Ferrari and McLaren are getting closer to Red Bull. If Mercedes gets a better performance, then reach the first place would be easier.
No, you just didn’t want Lewis to overtake George. If outlap was critical Lewis would’ve been ahead or max. Lewis on new tires means he would be able to push and overtake George.
Neither of that is true 😂
@@gameofender4463that’s why he has fastest lap and was right behind max, nervous for Lewis to wipe max @ Ferrari eh? dutch fanboy
I agree...that probably is the radio message weve not heard from Russell
Judging by how max couldn’t overtake George I highly doubt Lewis would have either. Russell could’ve held up Max and then Lewis may have been able to undercut Max (which is what the out lap critical is referring to). But Lewis wouldn’t have been able to make any serious inroads on Russell for a pass. It’s Monaco my guy there were no overtakes in the top 10.
If there was no pit window, Max wouldnt have pitted, simple as that
I hope a decent result is possible
We will see how things pan out. But, we all know it's brewing in the Merc house.
What I'm hearing is "Because Max did it means it was the right choice??" C'mon guys... you're going from a team of leaders to a team of followers.
The rear wing that was on the car at Monaco I hope you take it to Canada becouse it is much better aerodynamically than the rear wing used in the races before the Monaco GP.
This just confirms the level of "sabotaging" that Lewis was referring to. Everyone immediately jumped on the upgrades bandwagon, which was BS. The reasons for Russell to get the upgrades first was discussed on Friday already and Lewis was happy with it.
Lewis clearly eluded to the fact that the information that the team is currently sharing or not sharing is the difference between him and George. He said the team is sharing information with George between practice and qualifying that means he consistently finds himself 0.100 behind Russell.
Lewis hinted at the fact that the information, not being shared with him, is specifically around what the upgrades are suppose to do and how that will affect setup.
Lewis is basically on the back foot every weekend. While Russell gets all the support and a flurry of information, that allows him to gain a competitive advantage.
The team needs to find a middle ground at this stage.
Something is clearly happening between free practice and qualifying that is putting Lewis on the back foot. The team need to stop acting like vengeful scorned kids and balance things out...find a middle ground and start treating the guy who won so much with the team, with the due respect he deserves. It's SHAMEFUL the way Toto and this team are treating Lewis.
@@shro8605😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lewis did it to himself deciding to go to Ferrari. The team isn't going to keep him up to date so he can't bring info to his new team.

Lewis is a gentleman, an Alonso or Max type would call in sick every race
Why did Lewis say he doesn't expect to outqualify George all season? Why are you not answering these questions???
Because George seemingly has better one lap pace. It’s just that simple.
There’s no ulterior motives or conspiracy. George is seemingly, simply better at quali now (going by the H2H).
@@gameofender4463 - I don't totally buy it. Lewis is often competitive in FP yet come qualifying, his pace strangely disappears. Lewis said this. Something doesn't add up and the more Shov and the team ignore fans questions about this, the more it looks sus.
@@user-tf8qf3kb5e That’s a “you problem”. Lewis didn’t lose speed etc. Everyone else just stepped it up more/went faster than he did.
because he has better quali pace 🤷🏼♀️ george got a williams to the front row and isn't called mr saturday for no reason. last year he had a pretty bad season and still matched lewis on quali results. lewis' strongest asset is race pace and he still beats george there pretty often
@@gameofender4463that's not true at all. Lewis is consistently faster with a similar setup, CONSISTENTLY faster. All weekend Lewis was the faster driver by a decent margin and then running into qualifying, Mercedes changes the setup and Lewis loses out. They plainly admitted to favoring George.
Let's go team👊💪
How comes you'll find time to notify George with tire management....but not Lewis to push....
Lewis should wait a bit more to pit, and put the softs with a critical outlap to undercut max.
He would have got Max had they told him the out lap was critical. He could have done a lap 3-4 seconds faster at least.
@@andrewbell7579No he wouldn’t of. As Max would’ve stayed out.
The current cost cap is too low. As well, fund the teams in an opposite manner. Those who in gain less. Those at the back get more. More able to reach some level of parity.
That's simply untrue. McLaren-Mercedes have out-developed Red Bull within the cost cap. They've closed the gap to Red Bull, despite starting from a lower base -- so they've gained more lap time than Red Bull. Meanwhile Mercedes GP have been unable to do so, presumably due to lower levels of understanding of the regulations.
@@TassieLorenzo F1 should not be fettered by onerous budgetary constraints. At least not at that plebeian level. Bring back the T-cars and testing. You most obviously have little knowledge of the sport.
Compare Shov's strategy explanation to start on hard tires with James Vowles's on "The Vowles Verdict," and it's apparent Mercedes missed their old strategy head because Vowles' analysis of why starting on the mediums was better was far more convincing and data-driven than Shovs'.
Thanks Shov for your answers but you didn't come up with the eventuality of asking Russell to slow down for Lewis's undercut.
Lewis needs so much help neh
@@pullshow..that's not the point. If you plan an undercut do it properly atleast. If they don't want that they could've done 78 formation laps in the same tires

You guys are aware that Mercedes will lose at least half of its supporters for good to Ferrari at the end of 2024.
Out of curiosity and genuine question: will F1 also lose those fans when Lewis retires?
I'm one of them but will always root for them.
Yeah cuz all Merc's fans al plastic fans.
They know. However, if they start winning again, they'll gain fans. If they pickup Sainz, Verstappen or (very, very unlikely) Seb, they'll gain plenty of fans.

What are you talking about? 😂😂😂😂
My opinion, these debriefs allow the team to underperform. No excuses guys... Get good
From all the answers i get this feeling that Mercedes is validating it's decisions by saying red bull has done the same... We need to be better than them... Plz shift the comparison reference for good..
Now, this is really starting not to make sense. Lewis agreed to the upgrade policy change and then says I don't want it because we only have one? Make it make sense.
He said give it to Russell this time and let's alternate next time.
Counting on a red flag later in the race as opposed to at the start in Monaco of all places is...strange, just strange, and also quite unrealistic, isn't it?
Yes, but it's a low risk high reward decision. Worst case early red flag comes out and they still won't lose out against car behind. And that's pretty much what happened. But best case they would pit under safety car while others don't and that's huge tire advantage or even track position
@@camejuanm people don't understand man strategies properly and come here blame the team Shov explained in clear words and I agree with him on this
Strategy for the past 3 seasons has been appalling from mercedes, finally sorted pits stops out this season. But if in the future mercedes are back at the front, then something needs to be done to rectify how bad the strategy team has been over the past 3 years.
You guys spend more time making up excuses for this nonsense than Hamilton's strategy. You guys could have gained more points by having George slow max down, Lewis would have undercut both of them and the TEAM would have gained more points. We're not dumb, we see you're traitors.
Glad that the rest of the Mercedes F1 fanbase see the Lewis Cult for who they really are. We told you this time and time again and now you can see for yourself how toxic they are.
Ikhqhe
The small irrational part of Lewis’s larger fanbase never understood that point.
Lewis would’ve NEVER undercut Max. If Red Bull thought Lewis would’ve got ahead, they’d of kept Max out.
what are u even sayin? why would rb keep max out on used tires when lewis has fresh tires behind when track position is everything? what they did is smart to pit max as soon as lewis did so max didn’t lose track position since lewis would of caught up to max in a couple of laps surely, and lewis definetly had a chance to undercut max if he had a super fast outlap…
@@blackness.Wow what a clever guy, gameofender says that max would never pit in the race like George did so he wouldnt get undercut or something because he wouldnt pit.Just like you mentioned track position is key so he would probably keep that position anyway even though he had older tires.
@@emremavis5486Exactly. If Max wasn’t able to pit and stay ahead of Lewis. He’d of stayed out with George and tried to manage to the end instead of losing track position.
Agree, but the fact that he wasn't even told to attempt to do the undercut is bonkers. What if something happen in the pitlane slowing Max just a bit.
@@blackness.You don't want to pit when track position is everything. You only do it if you have to or if you have a free pitstop.
If Lewis had a very fast in- and outlap, then he'd be in Max' pit window, i.e. Max would come out behind Lewis and lose track position if he'd pit, and Lewis would've undercut him.
In short, Max wouldn't have made a pitstop if Lewis would've been faster.
Seriously Mercedes? I can't believe my friggin ears. Total B.S.

Show some respect to your fans team..after every race weekend,u r answering the question of the same ppl...how is that possible??it looks like u r going to lose a lot of fans...and Lewis leaving the team will not be the only reason....
No one is buying into their bs anymore
Sick and tired of Shov and Merc skirting around the issue of Lewis's struggles in qualifying...,WHY WILL THEY NOT ANSWER WHY ONLY LEWIS TENDS TO GO BACKWARDS IN QUALIFYING????
What do you mean backwards? He was faster in quali than his practice session times. He was just slower than Ferrari, McLaren, Max and George. He didn't go backwards this week in Monako.
He justify everything with Max 🤣
So Lewis was happy with George getting it first, case closed.
Now let’s move on to Canada. And maybe some people can stop pretending they tried to “sabotage” Lewis.
Idk just because the team said he was happy to do it and GR said he was happy to do it, doesn’t mean he was per se. Who knows what is going on but i get asked to do things at work all the tome that aren’t questions, and I respond np…but am i happy to do it or do i just know i have no choice

This is too PR controlled of an answer. The elephant in the room is the growing amount of talk regarding Lewis being sabotaged- especially from practice to qualifying.
Why does lewis need sabotaging? Merc wants points money. They want data to improve the car for next year. They are a huge team and people work there to pay bills, you think they sabotage Lewis for pride?

@@shro8605Yeah. And this is completly understandable because Lewis will left the Team. So there Number 1 Driver is now George and Not Lewis anymore.
It's utter nonsense. The Hamilton faction had the same theories against Button and Rosberg. It's nonsense. It's perfectly possible to have two good drivers who are evenly matched. Russell is very good and should have been promoted in 2020 to contest the 2020 and 2021 WDCs.
@@manuelf1818but how does it benefit Mercedes? They still lose out on points if they mess with Lewis' car.

Why don't you just admit that you are subtly sabotaging Lewis...little things like "forgetting to tell him the lap was critical"....all done to ensure Lewis finishes behind George. Toto said both drivers would be treated equally, but Ross Brawn said in his book, he couldn't trust Toto and didn't want to work with people who he couldn't trust. Maybe people would respect Toto and the team more if you were more honest....just tell it like it is....say you are prioritising George....instead of all this PR, diplomatic bs.

Only after they got out called out for days they finally put out a graphic. But were quick to post a “tyre whisperer” BE post for woody.
Clearly they dont care about lewis who brought them so many championships and put them on the map.
Good riddance, we are moving to Ferrari who respect both their drivers, look at how they treat carlos even tho hes leaving.
All I hear is excuses, do better!
Exactly lol. I’m impartial to Mercedes but it’s pretty clear they are in the downward spiral. Started even sabotaging their own progress with those silly excuses. Can probably expect fundamental mistakes and indecision moving forward.
But to spell it out a bit more - they learned just about nothing testing new parts in Monaco. Tire preservation was a non-factor with a somewhat crippled RB behind IN MONACO. Also saying that LH had no chance to undercut Max is kind of hilarious - he was on fresh tires and did the fastest lap later on during that stint. Not a slam dunk but there was definitely a chance to at least fight for it to either undercut or prevent Max stopping in the first place.
PS. Also them feeling a validation of Max being on the same tire at the same time feels a bit pathetic now not gonna lie…
Another ruin for LH44, SHAME...
