You solved my problem just in time.... I must be over-watering my soil blocks as they were growing plenty of algae on the sides of the blocks. I'll use your knife method,. Thanks; you have a lot of great advice on this channel.
@@Blossomandbranch I’ve gardened many years yet starting seeds has only been last couple years. A green house would be a dream🤞🤔🤓maybe one day sooner than later??? Surely I could find a spot in this little property🫣😉😳
I start my seeds in cells, but I also have plenty of algae this year. I am already trying cinnamon and a light water-peroxide solution for watering, and now I will try bottom watering, thanks for the video!
Thank you for this very informative and helpful presentation. I greatly appreciate you always sharing and demonstrating with great care and concern the relevant details. Could you possibly address damping off? It seems the causes are very similar; too wet and not enough air circulation. It must be more complicated though even with the best practices I always seem to lose all my seedlings to the point I don’t even try indoors anymore. Thank you!
Great video so helpful and a great refresher. I will try the cinnamon this year as I had some really very slow growers last year that got gloppy LOL. Susan Mulvahill of “Susans in the Garden” is also recommending a light dusting of milled sphagnum moss that may help too.
Yes! I love cinnamon and it works. Do you have any advice for starting petunia seeds? I started 200 seeds, absolutely zero 00000 sprouted, they were from Johnny's, Burpee's and Select Seeds. SO frustrating! Thank You Very Much
Hi love your channel. Question How did you grow your pansy's they look great. What temp did you keep them at to germ also did you cover the seeds. Any information would be helpful. thanks🌻
I'm soil blocking in my new greenhouse for the first time. What would an ideal temperature range be? I currently have my minimum temp at 56 (heat mat under hot peppers) and a maximum temp of 96. Is this a good range? I have a set up that will turn the heater or fan on depending on the temperature. The temp prob is between 2 soil blocks to calculate soil temp
My issue is that my seedlings germinated quickly (I sowed on 2/2, but. That’s it. I don’t have any leaves yet. Just the cotyledon. What am I doing wrong?

I was wondering about scraping it off. You answered that question. Thank you
Great video, thanks for sharing. I'm dealing with this now.
Thanks for that. I was starting to stress.
Thank you! This is my first time soil blocking and I already have that going on. Great tips that I’ll put to use.

Do you need a humidity dome when starting seeds in soil blocks?
Yes we do :) usually Saran Wrap or moistened burlap
Hi Bri! Question, when seedlings have to be potted up into say 3” pots, do I continue to bottom water in the bigger pots? Thank you!

I mix the cinnamon into my soil block mixture, helps with the algae growth, and it makes the soil smell nice too✨😂
How much cinnamon do you add?
Do similar methods work for controlling mold? I get little white mold spots on my soil blocks
Yes, these will help with that as well!!
Is your greenhouse heated?
