      For a World War 2 game. Japan really doesn't have a lot of content or interactions. It's as if this is a European War game and not a world war one. The pacific war lacks so much content and I believe it really really needs the attention first. While Germany does need a tree, the one it has is good enough to wait a bit.

      I believe that the update was called Bolivar referencing the German “Operation Bolivar” that involved espionage in Latin America during World War II. Still, it would have been nice if Paradox had made some effort to put in some updates for the Bolivarian nations such as leader portraits and updating Venezuela and Peru’s starting ideologies. I've said this for a while now - a minor change they need to make that would be a nice "minor" feature add:
    Paratroopers should have the transports integrated into their costs and abilities. Transport planes are expensive and coordinating airdrops is click intensive. Make air transports dedicated for supply missions, and make paratroopers more production expensive but integrate the planes for the air drops

    • @hyperactive1728
      @hyperactive1728 Місяць тому +1

      To be fair Glider planes where used quite heavily not full on transport planes in some cases... Surely that should be the middle ground for Paratroopers.
      Not to mention you cant upgrade the Transport plane much... even with MIO.

    • @pricel141l
      @pricel141l Місяць тому +1

      I would not integrate planes in infantry units no matter what the unit is, simple due to the fact that that's 2 strictly opposite gameplay, one work on individual battles, the other work on global supremacy (would be nice tho if we could get "air battles" like the navy get, with for example air tiles as large as sea tiles, meaning your air drop could get shot down by AA in the middle of the air)
      One thing I would do however is adding another air mission for transport planes simply named "paratroopers drop", meaning that you instantly know what planes are actually used for paras or for supply
      (Even if realistically, para divisions were quite non-existant, the only example I could give for the time being is the 101th US para division, which is a SINGLE division in the entire US army)

    • @boatriple0watch

It is so frustrating seeing the A.I. refuse to interact in a meaningful way with tanks for instance, and now there is talk of a Mech/AC/Truck designer when the A.i. barely uses mechanized and it is such a late game tech that you rarely ever see a significant amount of them with actual players anyways.

      Their reason for not adding a feature is that a separate team is already working on a major update with features. 1) Maybe a river boat designer for small boats that you can use only on rivers like the Amazon, but also elsewhere (Nile, Yellow River, Mississippi, Dnipro, etc.). THAT would have been cool. Faster troop movement, easier river crossings, maybe mobile logistics to act like a weaker supply hub, anti-air, shore bombardment, etc..
    2) Country packs should come with new models for those countries' planes and tanks. I use the plane designer a lot, and it gets super-boring using the same picture over and over again.
    B) Playing as Paraguay, I was kind of okay only having 4 research slots. That's because I was able to get some really good research speed bonuses, which let me do more research per slot and ALSO get some technology early.

    There's also a lot of inconsistencies between paths. For example, Communist Brazil gets cores on all of South America with a single 35d focus, Communist Argentina can get cores on all states via 75pp decisions per state from their final focus, Communist Chile on the other hand needs all of South America as puppets or occupied territory first before they can core anything else at all.

      Out of all the Latin American countries, they were the only one that sent troops. 25,800 men, constituting one whole division, fought in the Italian peninsula under American strategic command. The division took some 20,000 Germans as PoWs and lost around 450 of its own men. The force also included the Brazilian navy and its 3 capital ships and 2 fighter squadrons that actually saw a disproportionate amount of action, being later highly condecorate by the American Air Force.
      The whole gimmic of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force was that people in the country kept saying, through a popular expression, that "it was easier for a snake to take up smoking than for Brazil to fight in the war." So when the government actually declared war on Germany in 1942, after massive loss of lives and goods from u-boat raids, the Brazilian soldiers felt really compelled to fight as hard as they could, despite their small numbers. Imagine that Trial of Allegiance had plane designer, then you would be almost forced to buy it even though you would never want to play any country in South America and sparking even more outrage.
    If country pack ought have feature, then they should be regional, in that sense that they do not influence balance of WW2 proper. E.g. they could expand on Monroe doctrine and local conflicts and call it a feature (which they did to some extend, but they could just push it even further). I can proudly say that with my 3000 or so hours, I have never played any of the Nordic countries, South American countries or Switzerland after their DLC's got released.
    I think a lot of people know how to play 2-3 countries very well. So after a DLC you play those countries again just to see if anything changed. In my case, I have to invest into defending the north as the USSR after the Nordic DLC. And admiral traits kind of fixed a lot of naval issues for Japan, but that is it. Naval design, production and combat still feels bad and ahistorical. I wished future dlcs impacted major powers more.

    Next one... needs to be a relevant DLC... it means Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, JAPAN, Belgium.... needs new Focus trees... It's WW2 and Japan's focus tree is so outdated and uninspiring... Germany needs some creativity... etc...

    Instead of 4 IC armored cars just make 2.4 IC interwar tanks with machine guns. If you research maintenance II and you want to burn 30 XP, then you can cut 10% off of that 2.4 IC (this is only 2.16 IC then). Some companies can lower the cost even further but depends on country. Lots of countries when capitulated or using recovery from general trait, nation trait, or maintenance will also get some captured light tanks to push into this role. The AI loves its light tanks and even the US late game has lots of light tank divisions.
    Why pay 4 IC for the same thing that 2.4 or 2.16 IC can do? It is utterly ridiculous to have a bunch of tracked vehicles running around doing suppression but that's what the game allows as tanks have the same suppression as armored cars. No one would ever have tanks in this role as tracks are high maintenance when used so much and roads will get chewed up by tank tracks after a while even if they are tankettes. Wheeled armored vehicles historically were used for garrison duties. Also, real garrisons would have to balance between armored cars and softer infantry like motorized or cavalry. A real garrison division would have a couple armored car battalions, probably a recon armored car battalion, a few motorized or cav battalions, and an MP support battalion. People should be making BALANCED units for garrison duties but in game just making cheap light tanks or if you don't have as much industry and don't mind losing more people cavalry.
    The only thing armored cars do in game is add a bit more recon which I find mostly pointless.
    The best garrison in the game is one IW light tank with a machinegun. Or if you've researched MP (which I never do) then MP and 25 light IW tank battalions.
    Armored cars are a complete waste of IC and research time which is sad. They were used quite a bit in WWII. I'd like to have armored car units in Africa and use them for recon and garrisons.

    • @dutchrjen
      @dutchrjen Місяць тому

      Org should be taken into account in battles with partisans and also soft attack and even breakthrough. Think about this. If you send crappy light tanks or armored cars out alone, they can easily be ambushed and destroyed. All the manpower of a tank or armored car unit is gobbled up with crews and maintenance personnel or 9 to 10 personnel per tank or armored car. Tanks and armored cars would have crews inside of 2 to 8 depending. Real garrisons would have motorized infantry out on patrols with armored cars as they could not patrol alone. Perhaps two armored cars and two infantry carrying trucks or maybe two armored cars and two cav or very poor nations just cav.

    I honestly would've liked to just see a Convoy designer. There are already multiple events in this DLC in which a convoy was sunk and either lowers relations or gets South America countries involved in the war. Maybe they could have let you design your own and if they were better than the historical, the chances of them being sunk and the event firing would be different. Not a major change but would've been an interesting addition to the game. (Such as the ability to add AA, armor, speed, cost etc)

    I stopped playing after the introduction of trains. Don’t get me wrong I think it makes the game a ton more realistic. It wasn’t the mod it self, it was the straw that broke me from a complex pleasure too just, …. I ended up concentrating and focusing too much for it to be pleasurable. Maybe it’s me, but after a day of work I’d like to “play” a bit more and not have to figure out how it works all over again. Now I just watch you and Alex the Rambler play. I love the way both of you Describe the game and seem to really have fun with it. But they lost me as a customer. Which is kind of a bummer.
    It would be soooooo much better if they took it down and reorganized it. Because it is far from intuitive and super weirdly arranged. We all accept it and just deal with it but, it just keeps getting worse. Blasphemy I know but…… Hearts of iron V Maybe it’s time.

Maybe if it was like $5 I'd pick it up just to be "feature complete" but I just don't really value the DLC very highly. If this DLC included something outside of South America, somewhere relevant to the average Hoi4 game, then I'd probably have picked it up despite not caring much for the rest of the features. But for what it is, I just don't want to pay that much for it.

    Removing cores is never a good addition, so that's a fail from you. If you wanna talk about similar focus trees, why not adress the exact same military branch for the nations? that is a problem, they all had different military situations at the start of 1930s. About the power creep, it really just is that older nations are old, coutnry packs could come with some reworks for major nations, or nations that are really old, like the Soviet DLC reworked Poland. Research slot you are completely right it just seems like bullshit and honestly... not kind to not say something else. I argee on the features lacking a lot. for features I'd think immigration or actual economic decision to bring investors, Brazil was tricking German and US into investing in the country, it erven got a whole ass steel mil company (that is not represented in the focus tree, and yes I think it lacks resources in many countries too.). as for the price, I already paid if they are not going to refund me the price I've paid, I don't really care, but I wouldn't reccomend the dlc until tehy fix it properly.
