Mini-Truck (SE06 E09) AMR300 Supercharger crank pulley and tensioner install. Road tests.

- So I did a recap of the work done to install the AMR300 supercharger, fabricating, redoing, tinkering and I think its all coming together pretty good!
Installed the 5” crank pulley from tractor supply. 2.265, 4 bolt hole circle 21/64th holes. Then ran some tests with older single belt and 6”, then moved the supercharger forward and made the brackets for spring loaded belt tensioner and a 26"x1/2" belts, its all on and working. Have a small leak at the flange under heavy boost... grr.
And how you like that garage door spring breaking and knocking Ernest off the wall?

You’ve really made a difference in that motor , With the right engineering you reached your goal , without smoking the motor, congratulations ! I never doubted you to be honest, good job .
Thanks!🧀
I get lost every time we go somewhere, but so long as you know how to get back. Glad to see you're getting the bugs out of the SC, know it's going to make you happy.
6psi is safe and less stress. More pressure means more heat and seeing there's no intercooler and your average temps dropped overall Mini seems in a pretty happy place. You might not even need that bypass valve now....the spring tensioner seems ok too.
I'd just drive for a consistent while and see if any other issues arise.
Probably right, I do think I'm going to go to the 7" though, I don't drive with my foot to the floor... A lot anyway 🤣
I'm going to run it around like it is, probably pick up the bigger belts and try to refund all the other belts I have! Lol. I will show in my next video how many wrong size and oversized belts I have 😁
pressure and heat are not intrinsically linked like youd think. you can have more heat and less pressure and more pressure and less heat. that is why the word "efficiency" is thrown around so much without really being understood except that more is better.
But pressure does create heat no matter how you look at it. Efficiency also plays a big part
@@DieselRamcharger there is no intercooler or wastegate so its hardly efficient to begin with. However the pulley swap spun down the charger so peak boost went down as well. This means the charger was not fighting its own charge pressure against the intake valve system which = less friction, less pressure, lower temps and better efficiency Because colder air is more dense, Cheesy made the change the PSI dropped to 6 and reports lower temps overall so it's up to seat of the pants tuning to say whether the performance hit is worth the increase in reliability. I never used the term efficiency in my original comment so I don't know why you're quoting me on it or throwing it around as you will, perhaps you might look into parasitic loss and diminishing returns next time...
Draw though carb set ups rarely need intercooler, the fuel cools the charge air substantially.
This is true old school shadetree work coupled with smart engineering and fabrication - bravo, sir!
Thanks!!🧀🧀🧀😁
Its a frankencheez install! You made it work, its not overheating! Intresting use of a tensioner on a v belt! Why not!
I like the lower boost because it means lower stress on the engine. Can't see how the tensioner isn't a good thing.
Nicely done.
Thanks. I'm going to try the 6". 9 psi max would be my reserve power I can use every so often when I need it. I always stayed at 6 when I had single belt
As far as boost goes, it depends on how much you value your engine. 6lbs is good. If you bump it to 9, try as you might, you'll be in it more and more and there goes the longevity of your engine. You've done an outstanding job. I say leave it at 6, work out any bugs and be happy with it.
True, 9 is fairly safe, I'd rarely push it to that anyways like I have been doing.. keep at 6
Lookin' "more gooder" all the time. Mini's becoming a hot little number.
I was getting moto cheese withdrawal! It’s been too long since your last vid!
Haha, I ky a few days... Thanks👍🧀🧀
I can't wait until you have it completed!
Me either!
Mini sounded happy :D
Hahahaha she was laughing so hard about you saying you both was right hand drive she didn’t even notice you didn’t shut her door 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah new video
3rs! Thanks!
A boost gauge is essentially an intake restriction gauge. It directly correlates to how much restriction there is between the lobes of the compressor and the combustion chamber. Therefore if you have a restriction in the intake it will show as increased boost. I'm not sure what type of belt that supercharger normally runs but usually superchargers don't run off a single v belt like that. My guess would be that it's slipping simply because it doesn't have enough friction to overcome the drag. A multi-v belt would be a lot more appropriate for this type of application. You also don't have very much engagement on the pulley due to the way the belt is routed.
It comes with that pulley and it's been used for that application. With new setup it doesn't slip. I hear you on the restriction, I have a boost/vacuum gauge
I would've kept the Halloween decorations on Mini and put Santa hats in them. The lights are a good touch.
Not a bad idea

Love your work. Keep doing what you see doing. Really loving this S/C mini truck stuff!
"Another red light, oh mai gawwd" I felt that.
It started earlier and I cut them out, then said screw it I'll put them all in after HF
@@MotoCheez 🤣
Your channel was what gave me the push to get my kei truck. A guy down the road from me had a firetruck one for sale for like 5000. I was instantly in love. Barely convinced the wife, after selling off some other toys. Two weeks later I'm taking delivery of one through Boeki in Vancouver Washington. It'll be a year of ownership this December!
That's awesome! Love the fire truck minis
@@MotoCheez unfortunately, couldn't get a firetruck, but looking at it was a gateway drug haha
Yeah, they're tough to find... I figured you didn't get one.
heck yeah! that tensioner is gonna be nice.
Better then a manual tensioner? I think so...
@@MotoCheez esp on a 3 banger. power comes in waves, its not laminar like folks tend to believe. damn low resolution eyeballs.
I had my doubts but this has been a cool project. Thanks for sharing!👍 Personally I love that you're going for reliable power. To many people try push things to much IMO and then end up with something that breaks eventually. As I get older I'm all for reliability.👍 Might be why I love the "old" 90s landyatchs my grand parents used to own. Damn they just don't do comfort like that anymore.
Love your videos keep up the great work
Thanks! 😁🧀
My 2 cents.. your in a sweet spot for sure!!.. miles from when ur engine was stock.. if it were mine I'd keep things were they are.. reliability is ur friend at this point:)
Agreed. I just replaced belt with a Gates green stripe auto belt. I think the TSC belts stretch too much... See in next video
JB Weld for that leak! Also Santa should be be riding that chainsaw... :):)
I was thinking gasket sealer, I need to remove it to get SC out
Good idea on riding the saw. I might try that
Amazing!
Leave spring tensioner on. Belt will keep on stretching and sinking lower into the pullies and be an ongoing pain to tighten the belt all the time.
It was bouncing a bit at idle after a half hour drive on the highway... May need manual tensioner after all...
Mate you can buy 17mm bore pulleys 4 to 6 rib serpentine belt pulleys from Alliexpress China for about 40 buck.it should give more grip. I think it 55mm dia witch the amr500 comes out with. Else if it fails go for a cambelt pulley set up it won't fail lol and have a spring loaded tensioner on the back of the belt. Good luck hope you fix it and make it more reliable 🙏
I didn't check on AliExpress. I googled and came up with nothing for clogged timing belt pulley for amr300. I'll have to check there.
I see stuff for the amr500, but no info on whether they're the same size shaft.
My advice to you is to forget about the snow go to Florida that way you won't need that jeep and you can sell it to me haha, keep up the good videos I really enjoy it looked for it all day.
Hahah 👍👍🧀🧀

love the way the SC sounds!
Mini likes the all the attention at the red lights.
Snowing!!! Time to head to florida!!!
She does! Soon...... After Xmas
@@MotoCheez Merry Christmas to you!
@@212acres3 you too!
Next project - Get that 660 cc three cylinder out of there and drop in a fuel injected Mazda rotary engine with racing apex seals. You can boost those to the moon and when you blow one rotor at the track you can still drive home on the other rotor. It'd be a good test to find the weakest drive train link. My best guess? Burn out mini's clutch. But those 4WD burnouts are fun while they lasted.
That's my dream! She runs pretty strong now it's a supercharger and it's pretty reliable but if something does happen to the motor that's my first option
@@MotoCheez - You've already gone far beyond anything I'll do with my S110 Hijet. Joking aside, I'm not interested in shoehorning a small race engine into it. I'm more interested in stock reliability. It'll do way better than my old 35 HP VW buses, wound out in 3rd gear climbing mountains and getting sucked under semis passing me on the highway. I would definitely be interested in a modern Hijet engine swap if that could be done without too much difficulty.
Actually a 1000 cc or liter bike engine is what I really would like to put in here over a rotary to be honest
It appears that you have it cheezed out, and are well on your way to being the guy who has purchased more belts than anyone else in the entire universe 😀 👊 Woo-hoo!
Yes!!
I gotta say I'm dam impressed with what you've accomplished with "MIN-ZILLA" , she's a ripper now..! I kept it simple with my mini cab ignition- carb & exhaust upgrade and I'm very happy with the gains considering I just use mine for hunting and getting firewood (standing dead) . I'm currently waiting on a salvage title because I bought mine with out a title so for now I'm content...for now 😈
Thanks! They're a ton of fun
A machined or cast / finished pulley with a solid spacer would be a safer / more consistent choice. Using the studs as standoffs allos the drive pulley to flex, and potentially allows for metal fatigue and balance issues at speed.
The whole problem is that you can't tension a V belt from behind It has to be tension from the inside so it kept wrecking belts. This setup tension from the inside has been working flawlessly for the last couple years
Excellent video cheez, I think the 6 lb is definitely a good number definitely less heat. I'm thinking you may start looking towards an intercooler for summer. The tensioner fabrication and pulleys was excellent.
Thanks! 🧀
I think I'm going to go up one inch on a crank to see if I can get it up for 9 lb on the reserve, the way I drive it I'm not into the throttle all the time so I always kept it at 6 lb anyway
Ur belts slipping because of lack of contact to the pulley at speed add a idler between charger and alternator to get more belt contact to drive pulleys
I'd need idlers all over. I put separate pulleys and belt w tensioner now
66mph is pretty good. you could almost take it on the highway with that. on a completely unrelated note has anyone else noticed how youtube won't show the amount of dislikes on videos anymore? some people must be real sensitive.
Yeah, I could for a short time, 66mph is 6200 RPM.
I did not see there are no more dislikes. Damn I will miss my 2 haters that disliked as soon as I put up a video 😆🤣😂
@@MotoCheez there's alredy an extension that restors the dislike count
I heard!
@@MotoCheez yeah a whole 1 dislike on this video. there's even an extension that restores the old anotations
One hater have up already 😆
Seems like you found the sweet spot if the belts hold up!
Welp, the TSC belts stretched after about 60 miles. Just got a Gates green stripe automobile belt. Looks way better... We will see, the testing goes on!
"Slotting out your hole" and a trip up to Broke Belt Mountain..........Kinky!!
🤣😆😂
Was that Def Leopard on vynal? Talk about the soundtrack to my adolescent youth! 😅 In the Summer crusing around lakes with my older cousin listening to ACDC, Metallica and Def Leopard (maybe a little GNR too?). The albums Hysteria, the black Album and ACDC live still bring me back to that summer in 92 or was it 93?😅 Nothing but metal and hair metal for me after that.
Yes!!
Spring tensioner is just fine 🙂
What do you mean?
The automatic spring tension that keeps the tension on tha belt at the back is great , won't damage the bearing or alternator or the water pump. Just keeps a good tension on the belt for a better grip. Just remember that a belt with tooth on grips better. Also a new belt will stretch within the first 5000 miles. And retention it. Great video you on the right track.
Ride on mowers also have pulleys that runs on the back of the belt to tension it.
I know. Just got a Gates green stripe to try out. The TS belt stretched already at like 60 miles.... Maybe the lawn mower belts are no good lol.
Yet another video that I enjoyed thank you cheesy! Looks like you got it all figured out now you just got to fine tune it. Just figure out the least amount of boost you need and try and set it there. Over boosting just puts a strain on things it makes them wear out faster!
I agree about Aldi's. I've been shopping there for years and after a while you know what the best things are and the things to stay away from. Aldi's has stores in just about every country around the world. The prices on things especially steaks are usually better then the other stores. I used to enjoy theit chicken wings but they're unobtainium right now.. The snow is just getting to my house just now.. hope it's all melted by the time I get up.. thanks again
I think I'm going up to the 6", 9psi is the max I want, just as reserve boost when I want it!
@@MotoCheez yeah you going to need power when you get the boat on mini and you still got to be able to blow Jethro off.. 🙂👍
For sure!!
I’d stick with the spring tensioner. Plus going from 9lbs to 6lbs of boost is a triple win. Less parasitic drag on the engine so it’s regained power. Less stress on the belt for more belt life. And when the summer comes less heat all around so less detonation.
I agree but when it had 9 lb I never had to get into the throttle to the 9 lb point it only drags as it's producing energy so I usually kept it at 6 lb Max. I do like having that little bit of extra for just once in awhile like an added boost
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Looks like Mini is doing great. It's been one hellova fun project, thanks for bringing us along, I would call the Supercharger project 'Done' myself _ looking forward to whats next. The tensioner looks like its doing a good job and I thnk you solved the belt problem. Does 5-6 lb gives you the extra Powa! you were looking for. She runs great and is not under stress and that's where you want to be imho; do you really need 9lb? I'm thinking power + reliability = Win.
I really don't need 9 lb but it's nice to have that little bit extra boost when you want it cuz I don't have to be in the throttle all the time I always keep it at 5:00 anyway or under. It did stretch out that Kevlar lawn mower belt so I just got back from the auto parts store and got a Gates Automotive Kevlar backed belt it seems to be doing so far so good so I believe that's where I'm at now plus the bypass valve should take any extra stress off of the supercharger when I'm letting off

I wore out 6, 2 were when the SC locked up.
What all have you done to the exhaust? More air in more air out also can you imagine what a good head porting and a thinner head gasket would do for the power. SUPER MINI.
I put larger exhaust a year ago when deleted the cat, during the SC install I put a V6 Toyota muffler because stock muffler sounded like a jet engine at full boost. Doesn't sound restricted now.
I bet porting and matching would squeeze more HP, but I don't think I'm going that deep into it
@@MotoCheez I understand man I just can't get enough power lol. Love what you are doing and keep up the great work.
I kinda try and keep it on the practical, time spent to get HP gains. Never know though, may port and polish the intake someday 😁
How did you mount the carburator? The flange after the throttle plate has the, what i assume is idle air bypass, id be interested to see your mounting plate. I have a honda acty ive been wanting to charge
It's carbureted so it doesn't have an idle air bypass, but there is a heater plate that antifreeze runs through I left that there I put the carburetor as a draw through so it's just before the supercharger and I had to weld up and adapter it's in the video
Cheesy is persevering. Fun to watch. How many hours on this project?
Hmm, I'd have to guess, from start if SC to now.....18 hours, give or take a few

How has the supercharger affected your gas mileage? I have a 3 cylinder Geo that is my daily driver - your videos are making me have crazy ideas. 🤪 great video
I haven't done an actual calculation, but it's a little worse but I've been testing and tweeking too. Typically if you're just normal driving superchargers and turbos make your mileage better.

What model is you milling machine
Precision Matthews pm-25mv
28:25 yes with 5 pounds its complletely safe since my 796CC can have 8psi while flooring it,, pss its a good thing to tight up that tensioner pulley so it can slip that much
and yes manual adjusting tensioner is better since you have more control over the V-Belt
pss i would love to request a video if that won't be too much asked, i would like to know how much boost you make with different sizes pulleys on 100% throttle
I like the spring tensioner because it's always putting tension, under acceleration you can see it take up the slack...
I will be putting the 6" pulley on, I'm the only one who drives it, so I can have the extra boost when I want once in a while.
@@MotoCheez i like it aswell, at least it will slip definetly way less as long as it is not jumpy which it doesn't, bigger supercharger pulleys reduces boost normally
how does it come that the oil leaks? because thats something i have to keep in mind soon aswell
Bigger in the SC will reduce boost, on the crank, bigger raises boost/ SC RPM
