Yes - I've been using the dip sticks for a few weeks. Now I don't know if they are still (relatively) accurate or not... which is why I'm going to be looking for a blood monitor.

I'm type 2 diabetic. I use keto sticks to see if I am in ketosis. I don't really worry about the degree of ketosis. For me, if it's purple at all, I'm happy. I've lost a lot, starting at 304 lbs to 227 lbs now. I use very little insulin now. The sticks still show purple.

I have all 3. The breath monitor is useless, no longer use it. Surprisingly I use both the pee strips and the blood monitor everyday and find the numbers are always very consistent for me.
I don't measure my ketones at the moment. I am watching from the sidelines- not sure its for me but enjoying your videos they are giving me the confidence i need to start so thank you :-)
what is the name of your ketone meter? I think if you use the device If you use it correctly, you will get correct results. Or? Have you checked the values with a blood measuring device?
Now What Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. Glad this is helpful! The first option would probably be great for you. Did you check out linked video? it’s all about the symptoms of being in ketosis!
I loathe finger pricks so I use a breath meter. I have routinized it. I take a deep breath in the last five seconds of its warm-up then blow for 10 seconds emptying the lungs completely. I basically use it to tell me if I am in ketosis. The amount of ketones is kind of secondary. I find the meters go bad after about a year of use. I am 9.95 almost every morning --top of its possible reports. Sometimes 8.85, some times 5.00 or 2.35 rarely zero. I can get lower readings later in the day after exercise which makes sense as the ketones are being used for energy.
I read your article (Carb Dodging site: No Ketones In Urine (when you think there should be!)) about why ketone levels may drop when testing w/ these urine strips. I do intermittent fasting and this is akin to the "every other day" regimen that some people do (with some modifications) and I've been doing this for over a decade. My BMI is borderline LOW (ca 17.5). I've noticed that I've experienced less vivid color changes using these strips though as far as I can tell nothing significant has otherwise changed in my life or lifestyle including diet. You are describing ketone changes (acetoacetate) becoming less pronounced over time in those on a steady-state ketogenic diet. Do you have any experience with people on intermittent fasting diets and how there is or isn't a similar renal change as you mention in your article?
I haven't tested my ketone but I have lost weight, which was the reason I do this. I did feel "funny" for a few days after a week of doing this but I knew it was because my body was adapting to the diet, and I knew it would pass. It has passed now and weight myself for the first time and I've lost 5 kilos which I believe is a little over 11 pounds! Happy days! By the way I am also doing intermittent fasting.

did the urine strips and was producing ketones, i also had what i now think is gout in my big toe, a week later n no ketones in pee, not gonna bother measuring anymore
This is the second time I've done the ketone diet (last time was about four years ago) But despite following it religiously, after around a week the levels on the ketosticks appeared to be going down. Is it possible my kidneys retained muscle memory from the first time around? That's the only explanation I can think of.
I’ve yet to measure ketone levels. As I’ve been on the low carb for a nearly 3 months perhaps the urine sticks would not be suitable. I originally thought about the blood monitoring but when I started noticing regular weight loss I took this as my indicator. My weight loss is slower than I anticipated so perhaps I should measure or just be more analytical of my diet. Perhaps I’m not in ketosis as often as I think? Thoughts anyone?
Thanks for the comment! Yeah interesting huh? Urinary ketone sticks are probably a good place to start... You can get a packet of 50 for about £5. If you're in ketosis... win. If not... then you may need to think about blood ketone testing if ketosis is the goal! :)
@@banjo790ange3 No, glucose is never completely eliminated from the body. In the absence of carbohydrates in the diet, the body will make glucose by burning glycogen stores or doing gluconeogenesis (i.e., making glucose from non-carbohydrate sources). This is why when we eat no carbohydrates or fast, our blood sugar won't drop to a dangerous level. The body will make it just as needed, without the excess blood sugar that insulin would have to deal with when eating many carbohydrates.
I wish my body went into ketosis I follow a low carb/keto diet averaging 30-40g of carbs a day. On a good day I can get into Keto after 6 days, I then flick in and out of it. I never seem to get a consistent keto level. I test using both urine sticks and blood monitor and generally the results match. I have come to the conclusion my body produces plenty of glucose and that’s why I am a fat B. Do I lose weight I do before I get pissed off with it all but I put that down to hhe fact I am taking in less calories and doing TRE. The only time I get a consistent pink stick is 4 hours after a good 2 hour cycle. Even though I can burn 3000 cals a day my body doesn’t show ketosis often?
I started on a Ketogenic diet on 1st Sept. I’ve lost 23.5 lbs to date and check my ketones a couple of times a week with the urinary sticks. Still colouring up.
I just started not so long ago with keto and bought the stick. But no matter when I test they always show the same lightest color. Is that normal? And even before starting keto I wasn’t eating sugar either.

Hi Lucy! Thank for checking out my video! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! :)
You're welcome!
This is really good :) well done!
Thank you! :) 💚
Breath meter is good. It took me 2 weeks to get into ketosis, but now I get consistent readings of anywhere in the range of 2- 10

Blood ketone monitoring! Glad the devices are getting more affordable! Nice video!
This is so helpful. I just started a keto diet and can't figure out if I am in ketosis or not after a week...

Urine strips stopped working. Blood sample is easy. Currently at 0.9. 18:6 fasting.

So the best time to test really is after your 16 hour fast and before your first meal?

Strips not work with me. No matter how deep I`m in ketosis, it show mild level. Three days of fasting after 20/4 is deep, when lost 0.8 kg a day.

With the urine strips what level should you be at to be in ketosis?
Any colour change. The actual level is altered significantly depending on hydration
Dr Dan Maggs thank you so much! I’m learning a lot from your videos. Hopefully I figure out why I’m not losing! I appreciate you.
