    God, bull sharks are scary. In 1963, my grandmother was in Virginia and swimming out beyond a fishing dock, when a bull shark charged her, and she swam for her life. She was so lucky to make it some fishermen to haul her up into a boat. The bull shark was only two feet away from biting her. Bulls just don’t stop charging, they’ve never heard of exploratory bites…

    I love this channel. I'm petrified of sharks, but fascinated at the same time. I'm from Cape Town, South Africa, and we have alot of chompers in these waters. There was a very sad case of a fatality this past Sunday in Plettenberg Bay. Great white, took a lady in shallow water, from among other swimmers. CRAZY. It's the second fatality in the same area in 3 months. There are videos circulating of white sharks in that area coming into very shallow water. There are theories that Oracs are responsible for the changes in shark behaviors. Definitely won't be taking a dip any time soon.

      I so agree too. And so tired of shark experts saying they don’t see us as food. How can they know that without a doubt when they are apex predators. After the girl in the Bahamas was recently attacked by 3 tigers I said they definitely see us as food. It may just depend on how hungry they are or if they are in predatory hunting mood. They are wild predators and like the Jaws movie said all they do is hunt, eat and make little sharks. So maybe they also attack for practice in hunting. Then I saw about another attack where they said don’t have get in the water with tattoos or nail polish because you look to them like fish. One woman was attacked with blue toenail polish on and her feet looked like small fish so she was attacked. And one lady was tragically attacked in the Bahamas, with ironically a fish tattooed on her back. Her husband said it ripped her back off. And also part of her arm. I think she died. I did see that those shark banz work pretty good and most people wear one on the wrist and one on the ankle. Although a great white or tIger they can’t say that they will work on those. But they did say that it had worked on bulls. And caused them to make a sharp turn away from him.

    I have a good hat-blown-off story, too. In the 80's while visiting the Big Island I took a day trip on the Seasmoke, a catamaran that once belonged to James Arness. On the way back my hat blew off & I grabbed for it but missed. Thought that was the end of that hat & it didn't matter much. But the crew of the catamaran were thrilled! They loved getting the chance to practice their rescue skills, boat maneuvering, etc. I got the hat back & the crew was delighted to get it for me. Great memory.

You have opened my eyes to the BS we have been being fed for so long by the So called "Professionals" ! Question. I am curious why more attacks have not occurred up on the East end of L.I NY and the Cape cod area. I guess it is due to the very short swim season ,but I was always so creeped out by that cold dark water up there ! Even on the hottest summer days you would come out of Jones beach with purple lips and half frozen . I prefer the warm ,clear water of S. Florida ,but rarely swim in the ocean anymore. Back in the 90's-00's I dove most areas from Jupiter- south relentlessly and only bumped into a few Nurse sharks. It seems a lot sharkier now. I don't think I would be so lucky these days!

    I really enjoy your channel Sir!! I have always been intrigued by sharks. I am almost 67 years old and when I was around 8 years old I had an experience with sharks at Ocean City Maryland on a canvass raft I rented. I fell asleep and floated way out there so far that when I woke up I could not see the shore!! I was half asleep and tried swimming down into the ocean. I got back on the raft and I saw shark fins around me!! I did make it back to shore but got dunked by an undertow and swallowed a lot of sand and little shells and got the same into my sinuses!! I told my parents what had happened to me, they handed me a root beer and said you’ll be ok!!

      @@laurelflint1866 Yes. The way I knew which way to paddle with my fingertips back to shore was before I took the raft out beyond the breakers I remembered these small runabout motorboats were running east and west in relation to the shore. So when I kept looking around wondering which way to paddle I saw a couple of those boats which were pretty Far out. I noticed which way they were going back and forth and I paddled perpendicular to them and after a while paddling I was relieved to begin catching glimpses of the shore!! When I woke up on the raft and for some odd reason being half asleep I dove down deep and it got colder and colder, that is when I became fully awake and realized my plight. When I got back up on the raft and saw a couple fins above the water swimming near me I knew I must be a ways out to sea and that is when I became a little fearful, hoping that they were big fish but somehow I knew that wasn’t true. Then getting close to shore I was dunked by a real big wave and it held me down under fro a while. I was swirling around, but in the process of all that going on another wave must have broken and I was slammed down on the sand under the water and knocked the wind out of me and forced me to take in a breath. That is when I inhaled the sand and little shells. The root beer my parents gave me helped my thirst, but for a day or so every time I cleared my throat little shells would come up. It was somewhat uncomfortable. Back in the early 60’s I guess parents didn’t baby their children like some do in our present time. I got a really bad sunburn as I am very fair skinned. The sunburn was also painful. A few days later I could peel my dead
      skin off. This was not the last time I received a bad sunburn which is most likely why I have had 3 skin cancer surgeries on my face!! Melanoma on one side of my forehead, basil cell, underneath my right eye which was the first of the three and he said if I had waited longer I would have lost my eye. The other was on the front part of my nose and the surgeon had to stretch down skin from between my eyebrows to cover where he had to remove tissue. Very good dermatological surgeon because although at first the surgeries looked real bad, after they healed they looked really good. You can hardly know I had the surgeries.

      We made grilled shark steak from an accidentally caught Black Tip. We just used a bit of salt, pepper and lemon. It was pretty good. Very tender. I thought it tasted more like chicken than fish.

    We eat gummy shark down under and call it flake..its sold in our local take away fish shops and restaurants and is deep fried in batter..its delicious. The catching of Gummy shark is strictly regulated by our Govt fisheries department. Maroochydore is pronounced Maroo-chee-door. CH as in chuck.. ..OZ has tricky sounding names due to indigenous spelt cities..towns and streets.

    I don't know why I've never been attacked. I've been in the water w/sharks so many times but sharks just don't seem bothered by or interested in me in a negative way. In fact, when I'm in the ocean all of the fish seem to really like me for some reason. They seem to want to make friends with me & follow me around. Even little baby sharks make friends with me when I'm diving & follow me around. I've never had bigger sharks pay any attention at all to me except for a couple of times. Each time the sharks were friendly & seemed to want nothing more than pets. So, I gave them pets as I was heading in to the boat & it was incredibly cool. I was surrounded by friendly fish of all kinds including barracuda when these sharks demanded pets. It was the strangest experience I've ever had. I've had that experience at least twice. I don't dive much anymore. The friendly sharks unnerve me. I don't get why they're so friendly. It freaks me out!

    • @phoenixgirl70
      @phoenixgirl70 Рік тому +1

      Because that’s most of sharks true nature. We are red meat, they eat fish. They want nothing to do with us. Yes Bull Sharks can get bored and bump into boats or whatever. Sharks are also afraid of bubbles from oxygen tanks. The word “attack” is so not fair to the animal. To get the full stories a lot of these people get bit because they surf in well known shark breeding/nursery areas. Or where there are a bunch of seals sunning and swimming close by. Fisherman dumping their chum buckets in the water and then swimming (!), spear fishing. Sharks are vital to our survival as they create along with whales most of the oxygen we breathe from the Ocean. Lots of money is made by vilifying these creatures and they don’t eat people for gawd sake. They’re already murdered and left to drown by shark finners. You’d enjoy a documentary called Sharkwater with beautiful underwater cinematography, attacked by pirates, it’s a wild unexpected ride but so much valuable information and I have such great respect for an animal whose responsible for 6-9 deaths worldwide a year. More people are killed by toasters, coconuts, vending machines….but Jaws did a number on me and millions of others for years and I’m glad I broke free, learned the truth and swam with them with professionals in the Bahamas. Wonderful entertaining film, but Peter Benchley says he would have never written the book if he had any idea man would take it as fact and go on endless culls. Most shark “attacks” are taken care with stitches. But the stories get bigger each time they’re told. I like scary stories. But the people here thanking him for the “real truth” and not what marine biologists say who study them and swim with them often, freak me out! Sorry this is so long. From one ocean lover to another.🌊🦈

Husband tried it and said it was the worst thing he’s ever eaten. I couldn’t attempt to eat it after smelling it. I’m sure it along the same taste as the jerky.

    There's a restaurant in Providence, Rhode Island, that specializes in seafood, and I noticed that mako shark was on the menu. I ordered some, and it wasn't bad--certainly nothing like the shark jerky you experienced. It tasted something like swordfish, although not as sweet and flavorful. I'd rather be eating him than having him eating me.
