    With the seedling mix I used in this video I forgot to mention one component that was added - 1 part danish molar clay. My apologies.

    Very good information, I have stacks of Molar Clay left as only use it sometimes now, but I'm going to be using it this Autumn & Winter in my cactus seed sowing potting mix, having sown so many seeds in the past, they go so wobbly!😆 its great you mentioned the bit about seedlings needing the anchorage as they germinate, as this tends to get forgotten or not mentioned in seed sowing videos...I think I'll add a bit more of a top layer of the clay granules this year for this reason, Daz your videos are really excellent viewing!😊👍🏻🌵👏👌🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁

    • @Cactimania
      @Cactimania  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much, Claire 😊 Yeah the molar clay is good as a top dressing for seedlings, I prefer using it to the vermiculite as well as it’s easier to see a difference when it’s wet or dry. Works well at suppressing moss growth too. Thank you for watching and commenting as always, Claire. Have a wonderful day and rest of the weekend from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌺🌼🌸🏜

    Great video Daz!😃👏👏👏 It's very nice to see all the process in one video. About the scar of that Lophophora, it reminds me of a specific fungus (I can't remember the name now, 😐) that affects only to the dermis of the cacti... A bit foggy in my memory 😸: I only can remember something about that... the scar has to have a white surrounding or border. If the infection stops that means the inmune system of the cactus has been fighting the fungus and won the battle, but maybe you could help with a systemic antifungal. I'll try to find the source of the picture that I remember... Hope you and Edith are having a great day😘💞🌵!

    • @Cactimania
      @Cactimania  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much, Vanesa 😊 I did wonder if it might have been a fungus, but luckily it hasn’t spread anymore so hopefully the plant has won the battle. I have some fungicide so I might spray it for some extra protection. Thank you for watching and commenting as always. Have a wonderful day from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜

    Great video Daz!!! I love the way the lophophora stamins are touch sensitive, and curl inward towards the stigma!!! Opuntias do the same thing. Do you think the little lophophora is going to be alright? Looks like the affected area was sinking in😳🤔looks like lists of great seed!!! From lots of great plants!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Have a great weekend ahead!!! Peace,Love Plants!!!#✌💖🌵🌸🌴🌲🌺🌳🌻🌿🌷🍀🌹😀👍

      Thank you so much, Clyde 😊 Yeah I’ve seen videos of that happening with the Lophs, looks really cool. I think the scarred Loph will be ok, this footage was recorded back in June/July and it hasn’t got any worse and looks healthy overall. Thank you for watching and commenting as always my friend. Great information, thanks for sharing. I will have to try the tweezer method vs paintbrush method for pollination - it looks much better an ensuring the pollen makes it on the stigma. Wishing you the best of luck on the new cacti generation.

    Always great video Daz, full of information. Love the look of those 2 astros. Pretty spines and pretty buttons on the asterias hehe. I have few tiny seedlings but because I don’t have growlights and I don’t think I will get one, nowhere to put it, they’re all still so small, they should be big now if only they’re under growlights. But it’s fine, I just let them grow like that haha. I don’t even harvest seeds, I’ve thrown a lot of seedpods specially gymnos haha. No time to clean them and sow or I’m just lazy. I don’t want to sell and can’t send seedpod, too lazy to go to post office haha
    I admire your dedication doing all this things. Well done and you deserve your growing subscribers, road to 5k yay 🎉

      Thank you so much, Kath 😊 Haha yeah it can be time consuming cleaning Gymno seed pods, especially if you have loads like you 😂 I’d gladly have the seed pods from you though, I’ll pay for postage and you don’t even have to clean them, Phil will post them for you 😂 Yeah not long to 5K, can’t believe it. I’ll be doing a 5K and Christmas giveaway again this year 😉 Thank you for watching and commenting as always, Kath. Have a wonderful day and new week from Edith & myself to you and Phil 🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜

      😆 It must be hard work with so many seed pods on your Gymnocalycium... I have just one seed pod out of dozens of Gymnocalycium Flowers this year that has stayed on the plant... I'm so looking forward to seeing this one seed pod 😄 As Daz mentioned, I'd happily have any seeds pods if your throwing them away... I'd pay postage 😄 maybe do a giveaway too on your channel perhaps.

    Great video, Daz! Always happy to see new content from you.. it's very relaxing and informative. In previous videos you mentioned not having found your preferred sowing substrate yet and I am wondering, how does this mix compare to previous mixes you have used? Also, I've noticed that sometimes you use a covered container and sometimes you sow in pots and place inside a ziplock bag, do you have a preference between the two or are you simply using the pot & bag method because you've run out of containers?

    • @Cactimania
      @Cactimania  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, Amanda 😊 I quite like using this mix now for sowing seeds, it’s nice and airy and the seedlings seem to do well in it. As for baggies vs sealed containers, both work great and I don’t really have a preference between them. Baggies are more convenient though, and if there’s an issue with seedlings it’s easier to try and sort the problem out, like if one pot had a fungus issue or something. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌼🌺🌸🏜

    • @Cactimania
      @Cactimania  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed 😊 It’s always advised not to put young seedlings in direct sunlight, a bright area with indirect sunlight is best for the first month or so after they germinate. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌼🌸🌺🏜
