I just found this video. My goodness, I'd love to have one of these for recording- are they ever for sale? I'd pay well for one..That tone is wonderful.
Great video as always! I used to have a heard version that was very similar... two inputs with no grid stoppers, unbypassed first cathode etc. That one was from 77. Ultimately I decided to move it on and had a hard time with fanatics seeing that the varnish on factory joints was missing in several places as it had been a working amp all its life. It sounded lovely through a Fender showman cab with jbl k140s. A very impractical rig though. Will look forward to your next amp investigation. All the best
Very well made amplifier, not like many dreadful units I have seen. Great transformers, perfect tag construction, would probably make (with a few mods) a half descent HiFi amp. EL34s, love them, sound good, look good.
Got a '79 FL112 we'll be demoing. Has a very gentle master volume even with the pre volumes cranked. Chrome Fane frame still shines, looks barely if ever used. Looks like No. 3063, converted into a combo (given that the serial plate is upside down).
That amp may not be from 1973. Several things make it a late 70s variety. 2 input, lback grill, Bright volume instead of Brill Vol on the panel... although... the inside reveals it to be a 4 hole chassis, so perhaps a late faceplate on an older amp is the situation. Might have been done by hiwatt themselves in the late 70s. That would explain the period grill cloth of that era.
Well demoed Nick. Even my ears heard the differences in the two channels. I like that amp.
That is exactly the classic Hiwatt sound. Love it!

1972 DR103
I don't believe Mr. Townshend ever got his hands on this amp unless it's the one he used only for church services...
You're right. If he did it would have a hole smashed through the grill.
He didnt use DR103s anyway.
Sell it to me?
